After I defeated Alder by only a small margin, I abstained the position as Champion in order to be mentored by him for a year. I lived amidst the Champion and was his apprentice, learning how to become a better trainer. Eventually my perception and love for Pokemon flourished to the best of its abilities and I set out and continued to journey the lands. My meager spending money came from small jobs I came across on the journey.
After exploring almost all of Unova, I ventured high into the mountains. After a few weeks of hiking, I came across a Teddiursa that had fallen into a deep crevice in the mountainside. The crack was too thin however, for any of the Pokemon in my team to help retrieve him, so after removing my pack, I used a rope to lower myself down into the depths. I managed to reach the injured and helpless bear Pokemon, swaddling it in my jacket, I looped it around my back. As I was climbing the rope back to the surface, the friction against the rock face caused it to fray and snap. In horror I reached to either side to slow my rapid descent as the Earth's depths rushed to meet me. I scrabbled with my hands and feet and after agonizing seconds managed to come to a halt. I could feel blood flowing freely from fresh wounds in my limbs. I could hear the stifled cry of the tiny bear on my back and cooing to it I managed to calm the poor creature. "Alright little one, I'm going to try calling for help. Maybe someone will hear." With false hope I let the terror and agony add to the desperation to get help. After what seemed like hours, with my throat dry and hoarse and raspy; my arms aching from holding on for dear life.
I heard snuffling from above me and could feel bits of dirt and gravel rain down upon me. "Hello! Can you hear me?" came a distant voice from above me. Relief and joy swept over me. I cried out, hoping the strong masculine voice above would be able to locate me. I could hear the relief when he sighed, and could hear the faint sound of a Pokeball releasing something above me. After a few rushed commands, I could feel what felt like ropes tighten around me. As I started to be lifted free of my grave, I let my arms sag against myself. The sunlight seemed like a blessing as I was free and looked in to the eyes of my savior. A young man rushed to my side from the side of his giant Venasaur. As the vines released me, the man caught me in his arms lowered me to the ground, pulling the injured Teddiursa from my back in the same motion. He started to pull wrappings from his bag, coming towards me to stop the bleeding. I shook my head, pointed towards the Pokemon, hoping to convey the fact that he should treat it first. After a flash of indecision, he glanced between the two of us, but finally accepted my demands and set out to treat the bear. His shaggy brown hair blew gently in the wind as he worked fluidly on setting the broken leg with a wood splint. Concern showed greatly on his face. I could see he was mumbling to himself thinking out loud about how to care for the both of us. He finished with the first casualty, wiping the sweat from his brow, as he turned to me. I was finally able to get a good look at his face. I took in the full warmth of his green eyes and noticed the unshaven hair on his jaw. He gently reached toward me, turning over my eyes and appraising my wounds with practiced eyes and fingers. He told me he'd be right back and he ran off to fetch water. Upon returning he washed and dressed my wounds to avoid infection.
He recalled his Venasaur and then sent out a Gardevoir and commanded her to use Teleport. Instantly we teleported to Mistralton City Pokemon Center. The nurses rushed to our aid with stretchers and brought us into the building for treatment.
Within the hour I emerged from the examination room fully healed and saw the young man seated across the room with my pack on the floor next to his feet. His elbows rested on his knees, and his head in his hands. I cautiously walked over as to not startle him. I sat next to him on the bench and noticed him jerk his head up, startled. I smiled sheepishly, "Thank you for saving me and Teddiursa. Is there any way I could repay you?"
He blushed slightly, shaking his head, "There's no need." Smiling, "I admire you for putting yourself in danger in order to save another, especially a wild Pokemon." He cocked his head toward me, "As long as you promise never to do something so dangerous again without back-up, then I don't need repayment."
I smiled wryly, winking. "I can't make any promises." Chuckling, I stuck out my hand, "by the way, my name is Zerrah Wolff, what's yours?"
"Logan," came the reply. His thick hand enveloped mine and warmth spread through me. "Would you allow me to accompany you on your journey?"
Dumbstruck, I felt the heat rise in my face. I let my gaze fall, thinking quickly if I would be making the right decision if I joined him. Then, I knew the answer in my heart and I returned his gaze. "I would be honored."
