Compaq C751NR Screen Problem

Okay this was my old laptop but i gave it to my mom and sister as theirs. I installed Windows 7 on it and all worked fine. however just recently the screen got messed up.

What it does is only 1/2 of the screen is used and the 1/2 thats in use is tiling a 640 x 480 desktop. I believe this to be a hardware issue since we have tried a wide variety of operating systems from Windows to Linux. Drivers have been reinstalled. Nothing. The graphics card works fine with external displays. However today actually I had it booted up into linux. And i shut the screen for a few minutes and reopened it to the normal screen. I rebooted and it reverted to the messed up screen settings. What can be done about this?

That's a tough one. Without physical access, all I can offer you is to search on Google and see if anyone has a similar problem, and ask around various tech support forums and such. You may want to contact the manufacturer if it's still under warranty. Remember to backup your hard drive if you end up returning it, though.

Okay nobody has similar problems from what I have seen. We are taking it to a professional we know and unfortunately we never got the warranty.
