Whoa, that was a mouthful

Okay, so last night, two shows were happening. Well, technically three, if you count the movie Knight and Day, which I never watched. But the main attraction last night, in my opinion, was the long awaited midseason premiere of The Walking Dead.

Spoilers Follow!

The Walking Dead has quickly taken the title of being my favorite TV show. That being said, this episode was both met my expectations, and then sorta fell, and then jumped the bar. The show left off with Daryl, who's my favorite character for the record, being held hostage by the Governor, as well as being reunited with his brother. The whole scene with Rick aiding the Dixons' escape was well played in my opinion, and the Governor appeared to finally have been exposed as a true villain. The dude was smiling and walking as the tear gas was going off. Also, for the record, the scene with Daryl knocking the dude out and reclaiming his crossbow was one of the two best scenes in this episode, just saying.

I sorta was disappointed by what followed with the Dixons. It was a good kind of disappointed, though. My friend and I long argued that the show wouldn't kill of Daryl, as so many people like him, and his death would ignite their fury. So I knew he wouldn't die. That being said, I'm not so sure it was a great idea for Daryl to leave, at least not so nonchalantly. Sure, he'll be there in the next episode. But Daryl was a key member of Rick's group, and it sorta sucks to see what happened. Then again, as Kevin James said, "Blood is thicker than water".

The episode did a good job of building the tension between the two factions (Woodbury and Rick's group). With Glenn being pissed of at the Governor and mentally growing, along with Rick becoming unhinged, the show is climaxing, without a doubt. Granted, I did get the feeling this show was going a bit slow, which I'm not sure is a good thing. Not for a midseason premiere, anyway. But the show really set the stage, in my opinion. Especially with Rick completely losing it after seeing a hallucination of Lori. My god, that was insane.

So yeah, this episode was a good start to the middle of the season? Brilliant? No, I sorta expected guns to be a blazing already as the war started. But it makes sense, in terms of continuity, there was already a battle in the episode prior. That being said, this episode makes me drool with anticipation for the next one, and a good TV show knows to do just that

Final Rating (out of 5): ***3/4

Favorite Scenes: Daryl reclaiming crossbow; New dudes wanting to kill Carl and Carol (the former who killed his own mother [supposedly]); Little Asskicker

PS: LORI ISN'T DEAD. Sorry, I don't buy her death for one second.

Hmmm I dunno man.. Lori DID need to die. ;) No but really, it's fundamental to Carl's character and the fall of the Rick-tatorship. Besides, according to the show the baby was 2 (3?) weeks old.. where would Lori be hiding for 2-- possibly 3 weeks?

So disappointed about Daryl.. But I liked the comparison Carol drew about how she would respond if her abusive husband came back. No matter how much you think you've grown.. sometimes old habits die hard. I'm kind of mad at Andrea right now too ;(

But, I am so, so happy that they're finally getting the Governor's true nature to the surface. I think we're going to start seeing a lot of parallels between "mentally compromised" Rick and "homicidal blood-thirsty" Governor. Soooo looking forward to the next episode and your review! <33;

Noooooo Loriiiiiii ;; But you are right, she probably is dead. I dunno, though. In know the fat zombie Rick stabbed was implying that Lori got eaten, but there was nothing left of her. It seemed odd to me.

Oh, Daryl's definitely coming back to the group. I don't know how much in tandem the shows been with the comics, but there's no way Daryl's staying away for long. Way too many people liked him. As for Andrea, I'm not exactly sure where I stand on her character right now.

And yesssss! I want to see heads roll (no pun intended). The Governor is such a good antagonist. They built him up well, so this whole war of factions should be really entertaining. And there's definitely going to be parallels between Rick and the Governor. I can't wait until the next show either. =DDD

And I didn't contemplate reviewing every episode... but now that you say it, maybe I will. :3 Or maybe they'll just be food for thought blogs, sorta like Talking Dead.

Yeah I found that to be kind of weird how Lori just COMPLETELY disappeared. Maybe Carl never actually shot her? Or missed? So she's actually a zombie and is off galavanting in the prison /wearing wedding dresses as she stands on balconies. But nah, she's dead for sure.

And yeah I agree, Daryl is coming back. Hopefully he'll reunite with the group by next episode. And Andrea... she better shape up. hasn't she learned by now that she's always wrong about men? Geesh.

I want the Governor to start being as crazy as he is in the comics. And there's a certain even that SHOULD be happening that I'm looking forward to... but if it's not in the show THEN heads will roll. >[

Also, I think you should definitely do a review of each episode, whether brief or not! They're fun in my opinion! :D

I don't know man. I mean, it would technically be impossible for her to be alive, considering she had just gone through a Cesarean Section, but still. I don't think for a second Carl missed, but at the same time I just can't buy her death. Ughhh.

Daryl's coming back, no worries. He's to important to suddenly just abandon. As for Andrea... well, at the moment, I have an the episode on Season Two where Shane teaches Andrea how to shoot in my mind. Or rather, the scene where they come back.

I think they're going to go forward to making him more insane. You gotta spice it up, ya know? And judging by the Governor's behavior in the episode, I believe it's going to happen.

Haha, I might just do that. =P I need to review more movies, but I think I'll find the time for this as well. It's something I like, at least!
