Hey, JaDe here! And welcome to Part 6 of Genwunner No More!

Part 5 ended with me defeating Azalea's Gym Leader, Bugsy. Before that, I also stopped Team Rocket from collecting Slowpoke tails in the Slowpoke Well. With the Hive Badge, Rocky will finally obey, so he gets some training time. Since he's a traded Pokémon, he gains exp at a boosted rate, which is an awesome time saver. Rocky also learns his first Rock-type move, Rock Throw.

Once Rocky's up to level with the rest of the team, I heal up and start to head West out of Azalea Town but am stopped by my rival. What you got, RatDog? You think you can beat me? He seems really interested in Team Rocket... And of course doesn't believe that I beat them, so I'll have to give him a taste of the same medicine I gave those Rocket Grunts. First up he has is a Gastly, although I'm not sure where he would have caught it. Thankfully Rocky learned Rock Throw, because all of his other attacks are Normal-type. He follows Gastly up with his Bayleef, and even though I'll have a type disadvantage, I want our starters to face off. Hahaha was that dumb of me, 1 Razor Leaf took Kansas down to half health; I switch him out for Feathers and finish the plant-dinosaur off with a few Pecks. The final Pokémon he sends out is a Zubat, hopefully Feathers can use Hypnosis before it confuses her. Thankfully it works, and Feathers just Pecks the sleeping bat to death.

After being defeated, he gives me a little speech about wiping out the weak, and includes Team Rocket in the "weak" group. Maybe I should keep him around and let him finish off Team Rocket for me... Afterwards he storms off into the Ilex Forest, exactly where I was about to head.

My first wild encounter inside is with a Metapod... I just can't catch a break with my wild Pokémon. I send out Feathers and put it to sleep, but I'm nervous to even do a Tackle on it. I try a Pokéball first, but it broke free. I give it one tiny little Tackle, and it's still alive. It only took away about 40% of its max HP. I Tackle again then throw another Ball, and am able to make the catch. Anyone out there a Song of Ice and Fire fan? Welcome to the team, Podrick (and yes, I realize it's a female Metapod, idc).

Shortly after catching Podrick, I run into an employee who apparently lost his Farfetch'd that chops down trees for charcoal, and he's too scared of the forest to go find it. I guess I'll go find it, you big baby. After taking about 10 steps I can already see the Farfetch'd, but when I try to interact with it, it flies away. I vaguely remember this; I have to chase after it like 3 times before it finally stops right? Ok, more like 9 times, but I was able to herd it back towards the employee and the boss who just showed up. The boss rewards me with HM01, Cut, for returning the Farfetch'd. And how convenient; the only way through the Ilex Forest is to use cut on the small tree blocking my way.

Looking at my party, Kansas is the only one who can learn cut. I'm going to avoid using HM slaves if I can, so since he's the only one who can learn it, I'll be getting rid of Scratch. Besides finding a few items on the ground, the only other notable event in this forest is the guy who gives me TM, Headbutt. Apparently I can knock sleeping Pokémon out of the small trees with it. I also fought a Trainer, but his Bug-types didn't stand a chance against Rock Throw.

Once I get through Ilex Forest, I find myself on Route 34. I'll take care of the Trainer in a minute; I want to get my next catch first. After walking only a few steps, I encounter a Pidgey. Man, when will the routes be filled with more interesting Pokémon?!?! I try to use Bind because I know it causes a small amount of damage every turn after it hits, and get Pidgey down to red health. Although it avoided the first Pokéball, I get it on the second. Welcome to the team, Chirpy.

After yet another unimpressive catch, it's time to take down some Trainers. The first pipsqueak has several low leveled Pokémon, he doesn't stand a chance. A Rattata, 2 Spearows, and a Sandshrew all at about half Cottonball's level don't pose much of a threat. The next guy I run into only has 1 Pokémon. He says he just got it out of the Day-Care, but it's still underleveled compared to my team.

I can see 2 more Trainers before what I think is the entrance to the next town. The first girl starts off with back to back Hoppips, and Cottonball has no problem beating its younger siblings. Her final Pokémon is a Bulbasaur, did she get it from Professor Oak or are they just abundantly found in the wild now? Either way, Cottonball finishes it off and levels up, so I'll rotate my party around. Annoying is up next, and the final Trainer I see begins with a Mankey. I'm not sure how I didn't see this before, but Annoying now knows both Supersonic and Confuse Ray... Why?? After Mankey, Diglett was the final Pokémon for this Trainer, but couldn't beat Annoying.

I arrive at the Day-Care Center and remember a time when my original physical Crystal game crashed on me. I think I had already beaten the game, and when I came out of the Day-Care Center, I went to the small 2x2 patch of grass across the road. I encountered whichever legendary appears based on the starter and I think I caught it, but after putting it in the PC, whenever I went to look at any Pokémon's stats the screen would start having a binary/missingno-ish error across it. I ended up starting a new game because I couldn't do anything with the save file. Such memories.

There's no need to put any of my Pokémon in the Day-Care, so I continue north. A police officer is looking for suspicious people, but doesn't give me any trouble. 1 final Trainer stops me outside the edge of town, but only has a single Psyduck at level 14. A confused Psyduck, no way! A few Bites and attacking itself in confusion is all it takes to finish that battle and make my way into Goldenrod City.

I'm going to end Part 6 here. Thank you so much for reading! Part 7 will begin with me exploring Goldenrod City. If you have any advice or things you'd like to say, tell me down in the comments. Thanks again and I'll see you soon.
