... I took more pictures of the venue at an anime convention than of cosplayers.

The convention in question: Kantaicon, which was September 6th in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, just outside of historic Charleston.

The convention itself was held on the USS Yorktown, a massive WWII-era aircraft carrier. There was room for about four panel rooms (sectioned off by black curtains) and a small dealer's room (where I dropped $60 on a limited -edition K-On! figurine after telling myself to save money for my next con lol). But there were also quite a few vintage aircraft and weaponry on display. And up on the deck there were more aircraft displayed, not to mention stunning views of the harbor of Charleston.

There were only about three panels that I went to, and small attendance numbers meant not too many opportunities for cosplay pictures, but hey - it was an anime convention on a freaking AIRCRAFT CARRIER - the uniqueness of the venue alone made it more than worth attending. Plus I got to meet with people who all seem to attend all of the same North/South Carolina conventions that I do, so it was always nice to meet and talk with familiar faces again.

The group I was with also toured a few of the historic buildings and the central marketplace in downtown Charleston.

I stayed at the Quality Inn & Suites in Mt. Pleasant, which was very nice except the wi-fi internet started crapping out on Saturday night. Still, it was a HELL of a lot better than the two previous convention hotels I had stayed at.

Hopefully they hold Kantaicon again next year; despite the small size, constant threat of rain all Saturday, and lack of air conditioning (there is a very nice sea breeze on the deck of the ship though), I had a pretty good time. But now the gloves of my Sailor Mercury cosplay are filthy beyond repair so she'll be out of commission till I get some replacements made :P
