Attempting to complete the pokedex looks as though it is going to be an excruciatingly difficult task for me to complete, for a number of reasons.
For one, the recent Wi-Fi shutdowns for fourth gen games and back really put a hamper on things, since it rules out trading globally or across distances with others.
Another thing is that even for new generation games that still have support, my 3DS and DS both refuse to connect to internet of any sort, even after messing with both of them for hours on end, on multiple occasions.
Which really only leaves me in-person trades, and transferring most of the pokemon up from my own games. Not impossible, but very time consuming and somewhat difficult considering I don't have all versions and transferring up from older games can take a long time between games. Honestly though, it's sort of enjoyable to have that big of a challenge lined up for myself. It means that the only person completing my pokedex is me, with no help; just my hard work and time.
So then, It's pokemon collecting time. :)
