Something that I have plenty of.
Anyways I just wanted to idk express my feelings for the people who are like "yay this is the future of music!" and "no more headbangers and crappy dubstep yay!", and also to the people who are like "you know, I wouldn't say that this is the future of music" and "their new album isn't bad, but it sucks compared to Discovery etc.", and maybe even to the general attitude towards stuff right now.
This is just music. Daft Punk isn't any more special than any other musician that we've heard of in the past three years…or for that matter, ever.
Don't get me wrong, they may be good. But they aren't special. They are just good.
They may be able to sense the future of music, but they aren't special.
Nobody is more special than anyone else, no group is more special than any other group. Everybody gives everyone something special of their own, and that's what it is to be human, and to take part in human activities. They may make a direct difference, such as releasing a highly anticipated album, or donating millions of dollars' worth of time to help those in need.
Some others affect us indirectly. Scientists, for example, find crazy things that find no immediate use that turns out to solve a huge problem. Others may support (or give birth to) one who will go on to become a great person, somebody who gives us something great, as mentioned above.
But no matter how they affect the world, they all are the same. And the same goes for music.
All the music is the same. They are special in their own way, of course, but it all boils down to a pure expression of their feelings. That way, they are all the same.
So why does some music sound worse than others? It's because the listener and the musician don't have matching feelings, how they interpret the music to represent. It's a disagreement on the most primal level, one that should be resolved like any other disagreement. Listeners should try to understand what the musician is trying to convey. Once that is understood, the music becomes a "good" piece of music.
And a word of note, I understand that not every second of listening to music is about understanding. I often listen to only the ones I like because I am too busy to understand what the musician is trying to say. But once I have the energy, I do try to find their message. It's okay if people only listen to music for enjoyment - but if they're going to comment on how bad the music is, then they need to use that energy to do what I mentioned earlier.
And if people refuse to try understanding, I can't feel anything but disappointment for all humanity. This tells me that nobody will try to understand one another, that we will always have conflicts.
But if that's how the world must be, I'll be disappointed in humanity, and I'll find a way to go deal with it.
