As stated, the dumping can occur anytime now. McKenna has gone on record stating "We have added conditions. The situation is less than ideal. I'm not thrilled to be in this situation." What do you guys think of this plan? Do you think this is a good thing or a bad thing? What do you think the impact of this plan is going to be for the environment? For the activists out there, what are some alternatives do you think Montreal could have done for handling their sewage dilemma? Comment below as I'd love to hear and discuss with you what you have to say about this topic!

Mood: So so hungry, blargh.
Animal activists and nature conservists, brace yourself.
On Monday November 9th, Canada's new environmental minister Catherin McKenna passed a plan that will allow Montreal to dispose 8 billion liters (or 2.1 billion gallons for all you math fans out there) of unfiltered, untreated sewage into the St. Lawrence River. The minister has asked that the city implements several measures of "safety" by monitoring the the discharge and to improve emergency clean-up plans. The disposal of the sewage can happen anytime between now and December 5th of this year, according to reports.

Currently, the river is home to many acquatic organisms. A wide range of endangered or vulnerable whales live within the river, including Belugas, Sperm, Fin, Blue, and North Atlantic right whales. The river is also home to a wide slew of fishes, as well as a good deal of fishing goes on in the region as well. Both animal and human cultures and habitats are at risk due to the passing of this plan.Time: 9:33 AM ET
