This week, the group reunites with May, and Ash is roped into Contest costume shopping!
This episode was heavily rewritten from the original episode ("A Full Course Tag Battle") to both reflect that Pokemon is not everything in this world (and restaurants are typically battle free zones; unless that is part of a gimmick) and remixed coordinators do not battle. So this episode was very easy to rewrite into worldbuilding.
May's Glaceon Neva was the Eevee that she received towards the end of Houen--you'll learn more about her Eevee days when we get to Sapphire Sky.
May's gifts also reflect the remixed boys' personalities--Ash gets a lorebook because he likes reading about the different legends and lore, and Brock gets a set of panpipes to reflect his remixed goal of a musician and storyteller.
Brock's first performance goes like this
His second song goes like this
Like idol animes such as Aikatsu and PriPara/PriChan, I felt it would make sense for coordinators to have costume brands as well. I initially brainstormed some brands for an unrelated spinoff set in my remixed Pokemon world (that got shelved), so I thought I'd recycle these brands into the main storyline.
Next time, Ash gets a tour of the main twelve costome brands, and finds a costume for the Wallace Cup!
