ROM Hacking

  • Just felt the need to address this because I'm trying to get back into ROM hacking and a lot of hate comments and such I have received are giving me second thoughts.

So I recently found out that someone had given me a cameo in their ROM hack. The character named 'Fireworks' in this hack was apparently very arrogant and boasted about being an amazing hacker despite having quit four hacks.
First of all, I have never boasted about being good at hacking, honestly I think I'm a terrible hacker, and as such I'm always restarting or changing a bunch of stuff. When I look at other hacks, if I choose to post I will concentrate my post on the negatives of the hack, because another post simply saying 'good hack' isn't going to help, criticism is what helps and a lot of the time people have looked at the comments I have made trying to help them and turn them around and get all upset over it.
    As far as quitting hacks...
My first ever ROM hack was Pokémon Shining Platinum, which was nothing but a starting out project so that I could learn to hack. I had more fun hacking during this and managed to release a small demo, but I kept running into game breaking bugs and had to restart. I tried to pick it back up a few times but it was nnever the same, so yeah, I "quit" if that's what you want to call it.
Then came Pokémon Dark Grey. It started out as a Ruby hack and I just really wasn't enjoying it so I quit. Then I intended on restarting on FireRed but there was a feature exclusive to Ruby that I wanted so I just restarted on Ruby, but eventually decided that the features I wanted in FireRed outweighed that one feature in Ruby, so I once again restarted on FireRed and will be continuing this project when I have enough time to sprite a Fakédex. It is currently on a hiatus.
Pokémon Iron and Stone. I learnt a lot during the making of this. Unfortunately computer problems happened and I lost a lot of progress. Yeah it's quit.
Pokémon Ceil. I'M STILL WORKING ON IT. YES IT HAS A THREAD TOO.

So yeah just felt the need to throw this out there I'm asleep now.

  • It's one of the biggest forums in PC so just ignore the nubcakes (regardless of regular or not) that hang around and focus on the ones that seem to actually want to learn something from everyone.

And you could always report them for their whatever if you find it offensive. It doesn't seem like that's appropriate for PC, even if it's not directly a post, so…

I hope it helps that I feel like you're coolios in my book.

    I second this.

Even though I often avoid the ROM hacking board, not because of nubcakes but because you can call me one of the worst hackers on the forum.

That's the internet/people in general, for you. :\

I think the ROM hacking forum has just gotten worse every time a new wave of n00bz join the site just to download the hacks they've seen and/or eventually try to learn hacking themselves. I guess there are still a few regulars left that are perfectly okay, but everyone else is just rude and arrogant, from what I've seen or heard. I've thought of getting back into it myself recently, but for the moment I've decided against it since I believe I'd just lose interest in it.

Anyway, I wish you luck with your current and/or any future hacks!

Nonsense. Lack of motivation has nothing to do with how good you are, especially since what I've seen from whatever partial hacks you have made is pretty impressive, honestly.

Anyway, I admit, I was somewhat a nubcake in taking criticism when I first got here. I didn't go all freakish on people, however, but I still found it quite annoying. Luckily that has long changed now ;D

You seem like someone who knows what their doing- I need your help. I will message you as well as post here about it::: Version:FR
Compiler:PKSV. Problem...Body swaping. I'll be running around my lovely custom overworldsprites until - I get into a battle, recieve an item etc... When this happens there's a chance that I will be in control of another overworld sprite instead of the main character+the location of the character you're controlling becomes the location of where that npc char was on your screen before you triggered an event- results in controlling a char whos not center screened (I have a video I can post if you still don't understand). This is really annoying and can get you stuck if you don't know how to get out of it. Apparently though - Walking in a building/warp point resets your overworld sprite, the screen position, and sometimes the npc position. Help, before I brake my computer!
