Let's start off with one of the most defining differences in Pokemon games, the version exclusives.
Gold has the Teddiursa line, Growlithe line, Mankey line, and Spinarak line, as well as Gligar and Mantine.
Silver has the Vulpix, Meowth, Ledyba and Phanpy lines, as well as Delibird and Skarmory.

In my Red/Blue comparison, I said that Growlithe was better than Vulpix, and that Mankey was better then Meowth, so that's already 2 points to Gold.

Spinarak line/Ledyba line:
Ledyba starts with better stats then Spinarak, but Spinarak gains a lot more bst then Ledyba when it evolves. We won't be able to tell just by the bst, because it really depends on the tier. For this, we'll look at the abilities. All 4 have the ability Swarm, the spinarak line has Insomnia, and Ledyba line has early bird. Arguably, the Spinarak line has the better abilities.

Gold-3, Silver:0

Teddiursa line/Phanpy line:
These two are very very similar, having close abilities, the same bst, and the same speed. When they evolve, they get different abilities. Due to the fact that Usaring outclasses Donaphan in every stat but defense (It has higher attack and speed to make up for the lower defense), and that it's defense stat still isn't bad, Usaring gets the win.

Gold-4, Silver:0

Gligar/Skarmory:
Silver finally scores a point here, as Gligar is much worse then Skarmory in battle. It does have higher speed, but with attack stats like that, you won't get anywhere.

Gold-4, Silver:1

Mantine/Delibird:
Gold wins yet another point here. Delibird has over 150 bst less then Mantine. Arguably, Delibird has better stat distribution, but with a moveset like that, it won't do you much good.

Gold-5, Silver:1

Caterpie/Weedle would be version exclusive, but you can catch both in the Bug Catching Contest, so I wasn't gonna count them here, however, I think it won't really make a difference with Gold having such a lead.
Silver has the weedle line, which wins here. Arguably better stats combined with a better ability for beedrill's moveset give it the win.

Gold-5, Silver:2

Legendaries:
You can catch both mascot legendaries in Gold/Silver. Both of them forget their signature moves if you catch them at level 70, which will determine the winner of this battle. I'm gonna give this point to Silver. Aeroblast is one of the best flying moves, and is something you really want on a Lugia. Sacred fire is really good too. Let's take a look at what they get replaced by. Aeroblast gets replaced by Hydro Pump, and Sacred Fire gets replaced by fire blast. Hydro pump and Fire blast have the same base power, but Fire Blast has 5% more accuracy, plus a 10% burn chance.

Gold-5, Silver:3

Sprites: This is really a matter of opinion, so no game gets points.

Game corner: The only game corner difference is that Ekans and Sandshrew are exclusive to Silver and Gold respectively. In my last post, I determined that Sandshrew was better, so Gold scores yet again.

Gold-6, Silver: 3

That about wraps it up. Next entry will compare Crystal to Gold, and there will be a LOT to discuss.
