  • This week, what starts as a rivalry between Misty and the Fire trainer Egan ultimately becomes a friendship.

At first, Kamon was going to make an appearance towards the end, replacing Team Rocket. But the further along I got, and saw that Egan catching the Magcargo with the added wrinkle of his relationship with Misty made a perfectly decent plot, I decided that maybe we didn't need a villain butting in at all, and cut Kamon out as well.

It was a lot of fun writing Misty and Egan's barbs--I couldn't resist having Egan make a Mario joke (in celebration of Super Mario Odyssey coming out this week) and a Zelda joke (in honor of Breath of the Wild) to get on Misty's nerves--since Mario and Zelda both started out with "save-the-princess" tales.

Misty uses a musical analogy in her talk with Egan to reflect her remixed personality, and show she has more diverse interests than just Pokemon (which is true of the boys as well).

Next time is one of Brock's most famous episodes--but this time, he knows a WHOLE lot more than just "Takeshi no Paradaisu" (although you will get to see part of an "English" version of that song)
