Well it's rather whatever piece of hardware you overclock than your computer itself. Very dangerous and voids warranty on said hardware.

Incorrect in some cases. Manufactureres such as evga and XFX still provide warranties even if you overclock, change the cooler and even volt mod.

How ever, if you have no idea about overclocking, steer well clear.

Also it's commonly abbreviated into 'OC'.

Here's one I didn't see.
WMM - Windows Movie Maker - A very basic video editing program which saves in its own little file name, .MSWMM ...which...isn't even really a file....
It has a reputation for freezing a lot, most people don't know that you can change the freezing by going to Tools --> Options --> General --> mess with the AutoRecover stuff. This won't stop the freezing, but it'll help.
Doesn't have a whole lot of effects, Fade in/out from/to black/white, blur, fade transition, other generic tacky effects and transitions.
Should be installed on Windows XP. Maybe earlier, but I'm not sure. ^^;

Web 2.0 - Common term usually marking a "social web" where people can interact.

CSS - Cascading Style Sheets - Used to style the elements of the page. Standards-compilant CSS files contain all presentation elements that should replace deprecate tags in HTML. Currently the newest CSS version which is not complete and not fully supported yet is CSS3.

Browser war - Flame war between browser supporters. Most significant is Firefox vs. IE.

Browser rendering engine - the core of a browser that displays the page. Browsers have various engines, these vary in speed, standards-compilance and other stuff.

Presto - Rendering engine used by Opera.
Gecko - Rendering engine used in Fx/Mozilla.
Trident - Rendering engine used in IE/Avant Browser/AOL.
WebKit - Rendering engine used in Safari/Chrome - there are speculations about it being used in IE8.

QWERTY: The Keyboard format used in nearly all PCs


.bat: A batch file extension. Executes certain commands with text.


.vbs: Like a batch, but I don't know how to work these things @~@.


Blue Screen of Death: It is when the whole screen goes blue and says random junk that makes it look like your computer is freaked. Which is most likely true

Unless you see this was caused by System Mechanic or an anti-virus you trust or some zany screensaver (guilty), you have permission to jump of a cliff and die a blue death.



Chrome: Either an element in the Periodic table or an awesome browser from Google that needs more attention.


Mouse: The thing you hole to make an arrow move on your screen and execute actions with a "click"

How the hell was that overlooked?


Text (as a noun, girls): The styles of letters that appear on the screen

PHP is more than just "more advanced than HTML". It is a totally different thing. It is a programming language that can be used to make your webpages dynamic, ie actually program them, since HTML is only used for designing web pages.

vbs is the extension of Visual Basic scripts, not a batch file. Again it is ofcourse programming language.

HTML is Hyper Text Markup Language with extensions htm and html.

Java is programming language by sun named on an island of the same name.

JS (Javascript) is a language used as a component of DHTML (Dynamic HTML) to ofcourse make your webpages interactive and dynamic.

CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) are used to make designing easier and customize web pages which might not be as easy or possible otherwise. It is also a good method to organise your website design.

BMP are bitmap pictures. These images occupy the most spaces on disk, since there is no compression. However they of different types, each occupying different amount of space and offering different amounts of colour.

JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) pronounce "J" - Peg are images which have compressability, which means small size and bad quality.

MPEG (Moving Pictures Expert Group) pronounced similarly are standard formats for Video CDs (VCD) and Super Video CDs (SVCD). MP3 and MP4 also come in this catagory.

GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) are images limeted to 16 colours and hence occupy a lot less space. It is one format with transparency and stop-motion animation.

PNG (Portable Network Graphics) are images that occupy less space, allow a lot of colours, and transparency. This format is probably one of the better ones.

Isn't it called font, not text?

GPU: Graphics Processing Unit. Kind of like a CPU, but on the graphics card. It is used by the graphics card to process graphics, and it doesn't take up the CPU of the computer.
Integrated Graphics: When a graphics card uses the computer's RAM and CPU to power itself and the graphics. Integrated graphics are less specialised and use up valuable RAM and CPU space. Not recommended for high-powered systems and gamers.
