I've always wondered about that. Bug types aren't really that strong. And I think it would be really disturbing to have a huge bee that rules over a massive beehive and is threatening to coat the Earth in honey or something.

No, Bug types wouldn't make very good legendaries at all.

Insects do tend to spread epidemics and other diseases so a bug legendary could and should be the mosquito, preferably a Bug/ Poison type .The plot would be that this legendary would spread diseases after it is revived by the evil team whatever, putting mass amounts of people and Pokemon in hospitalization. It's nemesis , a Fire/ Bug ladybug, would have the ability Miracle Vaccine and would face off against the mosquito Pokemon soon after being captured by the Player .

If so then it could be female like Cresselia since female ants fly. It would also have to be cute, not big.
How can you have a legendary that is not huge? I still don't get why they include all those small Pokemon to be legendaries (Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, etc.).

When I saw the thread title, I drew something that ended up not looking like a Pokemon. You can see the base, but the more complete version is hardly done, so I won't be posting it.

It was going to be a locust-looking Pokemon. Its Pokemon type was going to be "Plague Pokemon."

But of course, it looks nothing like a Pokemon anymore.

    Spoiler:

I have no idea what to give it for its moveset, but musts need to be Ominous Wind, Sand Tomb, Sandstorm, and Heat Wave ;)

    - - - - - -

And lol, here is Missingno. He was a bug in the original game.
Picture based on the question-mark sprite, vaguely... You know, the
    Bug Type Legendary!?!?

Concept only. I'll draw it better and post if this thread stays alive.

    Spoiler:

edit Here is a better pose, but it looks nothing like the ? now.
    Bug Type Legendary!?!?

Missingno (but if you have problems with this name, let's go with Dekamarque)
    Bug
    Mold Breaker

    -- Water Gun
    -- Sky Attack
    -- Teleport
    -- Confuse Ray
    -- Tail Glow
    11 Toxic
    22 Silver Wind
    33 Recover
    44 Dark Pulse
    55 Explosion
    66 Bug Buzz
    77 Aura Sphere
    88 Guillotine
    99 Shadow Ball

When you encounter it, it shall have
    -- Teleport
    -- Explosion
    -- Recover
    -- Dark Pulse

It will be hard to capture without the Master Ball. If you trap it with Mean Look, Block, Spider Web, etc. it will just explode on you. And Damp won't work because of Mold Breaker lol.

Shadowy things turn into wings during Sky Attack. To Recover, they swirl around it and then engulf it; then the Pokemon glows purple temporarily and the shadows are pushed off the main body and reattach promptly. To Teleport, it engulfs itself in the shadow and simply vanishes. Dark Pulse turns them into a circle around the Pokemon and then launches it on the horizontal plane, but the shockwave is felt in every angle from the center. Silver Wind turns the bottom swirly thing into a tornado. Others should be straightforward.

    TMs and HMs:
Water Pulse, Toxic, Hidden Power, Taunt, Hyper Beam, Protect, Safeguard, Frustration, Thunderbolt, Return, Shadow Ball, Double Team, Reflect, Shockwave, Torment, Facade, Secret Power, Rest, Thief, Skill Swap, Snatch, Overheat, Energy Ball, Dragon Pulse, Silver Wind, Embargo, Shadow Claw, Payback, Psych Up, Dark Pulse, X-Scissor, Dream Eater, Substitute, Trick Room, Cut, Defog.

    Move Tutors:
Air Cutter, Ominous Wind, Last Resort, Spite, Uproar, Ancientpower, Twister.

I was imagining it as the cute legendary for the next gen.

I honestly think Gymnotide's bug legendary idea is very amazing. Of course, Nintendo's too stupid to actually even consider using something like it.

Bug types, in general, are pretty weak. That being said, a legendary bug type would be good to have because legendaries have good stats.

U-Turn Scizor, Reversal Heracross, and Air Slash Yanmega would like to have a word with you.

I want to see some good bug type moves first, though.

You obviously have not heard of Bug Buzz, X-Scissor, or Megahorn.

Back on topic, even if there was an insect legendary, Celebi already rules over the forest, so that locale is taken. While a giant spider Legendary could live in a cave, to make it the "Guardian of Caves" would be utter fail.

I think it would be in the bee/wasp family. Imagine, a massive wasp that only thinks in terms of Social Darwinism. Believing that insects are the most effective rulers for this world, for the past 50-odd years, it and its underlings (Vespiqueen line and Beedrill line) have been implanting microscopic larvae into humans and Pokemon via food contamination.

The result? At any given moment, she can activate HIVEMIND, bringing all infected under her control. Her signature move, Hivemind, is a status attack. It lowers Attack and Sp. Attack, and there is a 75% chance that the afflicted will not attack on its turn.

So she wouldn't be a ruler, but an insanely powerful threat to the Earth.

    EPIC.

Insect legendary? Yes please. I'd like it to be a humongous spider or goliath beetle. As long as it's gigantic.

Most certainly. Almost every other type has one, why not bug? As long as it rips things apart, sure.

Atually that would be awsome. But I think it would have to be a dual type to really be considered an effective legendary, like a bug/dragon type deal. . .

bug/dragon? What is with this fascination with dragons lately? Pokemon is just making their legendaries and semi legendaries all part dragon.

If I was a writer at Gamefreak I would just make this really badass insectoid in this really epic pose. There is no need to create a / when you don't need to

Dual-typed Bugs have too many common weaknesses: Stealth Rock and Rock Slide/Stone Edge (for everything except Heracross, Scizor, and Forretress), Flamethrower (for everything except Masquerain), Earthquake (For Bug/Poison and Bug/Steel). Yanmega may be awesome, but he loses 50% health every time he switches into SR.

For a Bug legendary to be useful, it needs a good resistant type. I don't like the idea of Bug/Dragon, because the only available [logical] conclusion would be a dragonfly.

    I say a Bug/Psychic or Bug/Dark.

    I was thinking Bug/elcetricity or Bug/fire

Both of them are weak against Earthquake, and a Bug/Fire Legendary would lose 50% HP switching into Stealth Rock. That's not very Legendary at all...

I was trying to avoid giving it any common weaknesses. One of the strengths of Legendaries is that few of them have easily exploitable weaknesses:

Kyogre: the only counter I've found that works well against it is Magnezone.

Mewtwo/Mew/Deoxys: Weak against Dark, Bug, and Ghost. The strongest Dark and Ghost attacks only have 80BP, and Megahorn is carried by the Psychic-weak Heracross/Nidoking.

Zapdos: The only exploitable weakness here is Rock, as Ice Beam carriers are prey to either Thunderbolt or Heat Wave.

Suicune: You can't OHKO it with a Grass or Electric attack, which gives it time to set up Calm Mind, Resttalk, etc.

Due to the common weaknesses of Bugs, the best bet is to give them a typing that negates some of them instead of compounding them.

Personally, I thought a Bug legendary would be a good idea.
(Don't mind my choice of "No" in the poll. I wasn't thinking straight at that moment.)

But what about the backstory? What would happen to the static bug? I mean, they give us the first bug legendary, yet NO BACKSTORY FOR THE POOR THING? Epic fail if you do nothing, Nintendo.

    I was thinking Bug/elcetricity or Bug/fire

    You mean Electric, right?
...Bug/Electric isn't a good idea. Like Tristin said, Earthquake would kill them easily.

And Bug/Fire isn't good, in fact. Rock types would kill these buggies because of its 4x weakness, and I'm sure that the game would be spammed with Geodudes in the beginning. I'M SURE OF IT.

Well a Bug/Fighting dual-type could work, but that would be an insult to Heracross lovers...

    A Bug/Dark dual-type would be interesting, also a Bug/Ghost (ignores Shedinja)
