WWE officials held a meeting yesterday concerning Rey Mysterio's recent actions and how he will be creatively handled on television.
As noted, there was much internal heat on Mysterio for his Spanish-language interview with The Record in Mexico over the weekend. He did not get the interview approved ahead of time, which is standard company protocol. There was talk that if they didn't punish him, fellow talent could follow suit and bury the company in the future. Back in the WCW days, talent would frequently bury the company without consequence. Unlike WCW, WWE prefers not opening themselves up to that, hence the need for interviews to be approved of.
Whether Mysterio thought he could do a Spanish-language interview to explain himself to fans and potential sponsors in Mexico without it ever reaching the United States remains unknown.
Regarding creative plans for Mysterio dropping the Intercontinental title at tomorrow night's SmackDown taping, Vince McMahon wanted all potential options evaluated. More than likely, it will not be as simple as Dolph Ziggler beating him in a singles match. In fact, because that is the "expected result," you should expect something different to take place on this week's show. However, it likely won't be different enough for it to result in Mysterio not dropping the title.
Mysterio is hopeful he can get his suspension overturned when he discusses the situation with management tomorrow.

WWE officials are said to be very unhappy with Rey Mysterio over comments he made to a Mexican newspaper regarding his recent drug test failure where he said had a prescription for the drug he failed for but was suspended before he could give proof of his prescription.
A number of ideas are being discussed for Tuesday's SmackDown taping in Cleveland including Dolph Ziggler beating him for the Intercontinental title and Ziggler interfering and costing him the title against another wrestler. Although, WWE would have to explain why Ziggler didn't receive the title shot after winning a number one contender's match on last week's episode of Superstars if they go in the latter direction.

As reported yesterday, numerous sources within WWE have said there is a lot of heat on Rey Mysterio for doing an interview with a Mexican newspaper explaining his side of his recent suspension. Some within WWE feel Mysterio put himself in a position where the company would have to punish him further or else risk someone else following the same path without consequence. Company protocol is to keep quiet while suspended.
Mysterio worked SmackDown live events over the weekend, losing to World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk. The Intercontintal Champion was initially pulled from this past weekend's slate of house shows, but that decision was reversed when WWE opted to start his suspension on Wednesday in order tie up his place on television at tomorrow night's SmackDown taping in Cleveland.
Mysterio has told wrestlers who have asked about the circumstances behind his suspension that he had a legitimate prescription for a painkiller and that WWE didn't give him proper notice and time for his doctor to give them details on said prescription. He told many that he hopes WWE will reconsider his case and overturn his suspension when he personally speaks to management tomorrow.
