Well if he didn't look like the flaming Pig of War, he could probably pull off a different typing. I don't like his design in general.

Also, it doesn't even matter if one of the starters ends up being useless in competitive play. Rarely do we see a generation where every starter ends up on the same tier anyway.

Ugh, everyone's complaining about this. I hate it just as much as you do, but we might as well accept it... Let's just hope we get a different dual type for the Fire starter next generation... =/

Merged here as it relates to the starters. :3

I was actually hoping for Mijumaru's evolution line to be a water/fighting type but after seeing Pokabu's evolution line, I had a strong feeling Mijumaru wouldn't have it's part fighting type excel.
Although I must admit, even if the evolutions of Pokabu were to not have fighting in the line, the majority of people saying "They always have fire/fighting >_>;" would probably be saying how much Pokabu's evolutions design has the fighting appearance compared to Mijumaru's line.

I'm going to start with Tsutarja.. Looks cool. A snake with legs and arms. It's evolution Junoby . Not that much has been added exept changes to its tale and mouth. But now its final form. Jaroda. It's evolution process changed it a lot...no legs...no arms...went back to its roots and it said "Screw the legs and arms, going back to slithering". Looks cool and feirce...Move over Arbok and Seviper. Theres competition.

Pokabu. When I saw this. I quickly looked at brother. Resemblance and LOLed so hard. But a fire pig pokemon sounds cool. Chaobu. He looks like a beast, literally! Added some muscle. Now its final evolution. Enbuoo. I was sooo pumped and happy to see the final, until i saw his secondary type...fighting...Third in a row. Sort of Disappointed on its second type but it's all good. Im happy of the outcome. Welcome to the fighting and fire club.

Now finally Mijumaru. It looks so cute, no lie. An otter. Something new! Futachimaru. I honestly was fearing it might be another fighting type as a secondary. But i wasnt soo im all good. And looks beast. Final form Daikenki. How does that work out, LOL! But happy from the out come. Looks like a sea lion. Lol and slight sea otter. But he looks totaly cool.

Does that mean future starter patterns will be fire/fighting, then? Though dark really would be amazing. Even still, they could have left it at just fire, though, since that has no flaws - as in, likely to be defeated by.

Not necessarily, Fire/poison is one that could happen sometime, or another fire/flying. I would actually like to see a water/flying or a grass/flying sometime.

-- Devil Flamingo: "but they aren't going to make a starter part Psychic or Dark or Ghost, because they would be too cool and edgy for GF's rather conservative ways."

That does make a lot of sense actually. I think those types would be too exotic. Same with a Grass/Dragon type as a starter, which is probably why Charizard wasn't fire/ dragon.

Plus those types are too strong for the early stages of the game. If you had a dragon starter it would have a great type advantage over every gym (Dragons' few weaks + good resists to Grass, Fire and Water, plus its a strong type overall)

Until the Ice/Dragon Gym, if there even is one.

It's ironic that we had a Ice/Dragon gym in gen 2 and gen 5, where two of the starters could have been dragon (Totodile and Tsutarja)

Tsutaja is becoming too popular. I'm breaking my allways grass starter tradition (Started in Leafgreen) now. I'm officially switching to Mijumaru. This will be my first non grass starter since emerald (I chose mudkip)

I never understood why a highly popular Pokemon drives certain people away from it...
Is it the desire to be different..?

    As for me, this is the first time ever I've chosen a grass starter. I always choose the fire starter, but Pokabu is just not my favorite. I love it's design and move pool, but I'm just not digging the fire starter as much as I usually do. XD;

The fire starter is always based on the Chinese Zodiac, and the chance of another Flying type could be if we get a flying Snake (ooh another snake :) )

What part of the Chinese Zodiac is Cyndaquil based on? If this is what they are thinking though, Fire/Poison would also be a good type for a snake.

Fire/poison would be so epic. I dont think we have ever had one before. A fire/poison starter would be so popular too.

As for the Isshu starters I used to hate Mudkip because of how overrated it is, and I loved torchic as it was more forgotten and cuteer than Treeko and Mudkip. But now I still love Tsutaja, it's final evo is too epic, I love Medusa's.

Would this work for a Fire/Poison starter? :D

I found it a few weeks ago when I checked Serebii's Fake Pokemon hoax section...
Originally made by Cascadegonpory of DeviantArt. The original page can be found here: https://cascadegonpory.deviantart.com/art/FK-hoax-NAME-HIPION-163402875

    Its name is Hipion.
    Etymology:
    Hi- (ひ hi 火 flame/fire)
    -pion (scorpion)

I'd really like to see the Fakemon evos of Hipion, though. That would be awesome, and could be a very intriguing Pokemon to see in action...

As for Fire starter type combinations, Fire/Water and Fire/Grass are the only ones I can't see happening at all, because it would downplay the uniqueness of the other 2 starters...

But the other combos do sound interesting, especially when they would be a refreshing change of pace from the currently repetitive Fire/Fighting that Enbuoo has managed to perpetuate in a sense...

As a side-note, I'd still like to see a Dark/Psychic/Fighting trio. Yes, I know the triangle is partly broken, but the Psychic-type could be granted a unique ability that removes the Dark-type's immunity to Psychic-type allows the user to hit Dark-types for "not very effective..." or normal effectiveness (similar to the effect of the move Miracle Eye). However, 'normal effectiveness' would still break the "not very effective" triangle...

The reason I prefer this "trio" is that the Fighting and Psychic-types represent two parallels of combat (physical combat, and mental/telekinetic combat). Furthermore, the two "alignments" of combat are utilized (as in, Fighting-types fight with just and honorable tactics, as opposed to Dark-types that use sneaky and underhanded, dishonorable tactics...)

EDIT: The above scorpion starter, to the best of my knowledge, was part of a hoax of BW starters, involving the Fakemon Rakuriifu, Hipion & Dorukua. It was proven fake when the silhouettes were shown. Noted on this page. Didn't mean to veer off-topic.

That would be a cool poison/fire starter. It looks like a scorpion, so it would work. I think we are going off topic a bit too much though.

I really like the first water stater. It is so cute and fluffy. But I dont see how the second evo evolves into the last one. Other than the colours they look not a bit like each other, they look like completely separate evolutionary lines :L

Unless that fire/poison starter relates to B/W, then yeah, that is off-topic.

Fire/poison would be a nice typing though, but I'm not sure if it would be considered "strong" enough, plus Pokabu's evo line looks nothing like poison. D:

Come to think of it I dont know why fire/dark would be to "strong" that early on in the game. I kinda understand why they might not want to use that typeing for starters, but I dont seem to see why that wouldn't work, especially since the starters would be fully evolved usually mid point through the gym battles, like 4th and 5th gym leaders, depending if you train your starter in the grass so the gyms are easy. By that time you would have already encountered dark type pokemon. So I actually think that having Enbuoo as a dark type would have worked just fine.

I despise the Fire type starter. To many fire/fighting starters i'm going water all the way
