Honestly, I know there will be one day that people will wake up and realize that all of this time that they've been manipulated by some sort of religious organization and try to find God within themselves, or at least take the Bible (or other religious text) into their own hands and find their own interpretation within the text instead of paying money to some sort of church.

I agree with that. I think they found their own beliefs/Or lack therof, Because most of the Atheists I know irl have very religious parents, surprisingly.

Well, the same thing could be said with science; people wanted explanations, so they dug deeper instead of accepting "bible says so" or any excuse. As for your second part, my mom is not a very religious but tends to go to holy books and read them. I feel this is false hope, but whatever makes you happy.

Also, I just got this into my head: is man himself god? While this might not make any sense and is probably a bad question with a rhetoric answer "no" on it, man has aquired many tools which could just as well be "god's judgment". (for example, nuclear war)
I'm most likely wrong and have a poor theory but I always wanted to spill this.

No, i think that's an excellent question. We have power to create, destroy as we please. We can fly through the air, dive deep underwater, and even prolong death with the proper tools.

America is actually ridiculously liberal in some places, so I'm pretty sure the anti-military anti-"religious nutjob" sentiment is only going to get worse.


Also, just as an observation...

About four out of every five soldiers are of some Christian domination.
If we take the gifts that these men give us, and spit on their ideals...

Yes, but from experience whenever they pray they say things like "May he hear.." / etc so it kind of conflicts with the word itself. Oh yeah, some of the praying say שמע ישראל אדוני אלוהנו אדוני אחד (Hebrew) which (because I'm unable to find a proper translation) means "Hear Israel, my Lord, my only Lord". which means it's one god. My translation isn't accurate though because I'm unable to translate biblical language, but the point is that there is only one lord. Oh and by the way, Jewish guys (not girls) put something called Tefillin each morning and the fastest way of doing it is just put this thing on you (somehow) and say the sentence I mentioned earlier. Every day.

Oh, and if we are on this topic, one of my most disliked thing in religion are how "sexist" it is. "All the world's evils can be traced to religion" somewhat applies here, since in times when religion was dominant, at least in Judaism women didn't do too much.. Another factor, despite being a conflict is that many religious (not the strong ones, and here at least) tend to disapprove people of the opposite gender for the sole fact of their religion, and I saw guys comment "Bible says no to marriage, nothing about sex" which totally annoys me. Maybe it's just my point of view though.

This really does not surprise me. To quote teh interwebz: "The Bible is like the Terms & Conditions; most people just go straight to the end and click "I Agree"".

I am a Catholic and believe in the church's teachings. I don't believe that there are Atheists in the world, but that's just what I believe. I've explored other religions and found Judaism extremely interesting. And most of the "Atheists" I see are around the ages of 13-17 that just have problems in life or have suffered a loss in their life and blamed it on God because they didn't want to admit that the loss was at the hands of someone else.

You don't believe in Atheists? So what you're Aatheist? Sorry to disrupt your belief system, but I'm atheist and I have had no real problems or loss. Besides by "blaming it on god" those teens are admitting they are in fact theist unless you mean it in the "Oh my god!" sense.

That's very interesting, because Elohim is used fairly often in the Old testament. But are those prayers themselves from the Old Testament, or are they just hymns that have been added later? I'm interested.

I would imagine that the problem lies with the church AKA Organized religion that has treated them as subhuman and spread intolerance and hatred like a plague for a few centuries.

Most likely because it's defying God's will for us, that being that we're born to procreate, and same-sex couples can't very well produce offspring very efficiently. :/

You see, old-school religious folks dismissed all their basic human instincts as something that god instilled in them and that mentality sticks around even today.

Perhaps if that technology was around back in the hayday of the Catholic Church's power, maybe. Lesbian couples weren't looked down upon as much as male-male couples because, well, men ruled society and men find lesbians attractive. Nowadays however, the church is far too inflexible and this is partially the reason why I dissociate myself from the Catholic Church despite my core beliefs regarding spirituality being the same as theirs. XD

You're missing the entire point- married people get married because they want to- do "it" with each other, and because they want to live forever together. Females can't have sex with each other, no, not literally, with anything. THEY CAN NOT AND SHOULD NOT MARRY. Creating kids with technology is really morally wrong- how would you feel if your parents told you you were developed by scientists in a lab? Why are people denying what is right and natural?

So children being conceived via In-Vitro fertilization is morally wrong? A couple wants a happy, healthy child, and giving them that child, and a loving family via in-vitro fertilization/artificial insemination and other related reproductive techniques is is somehow evil? Would you feel the same way if it was a heterosexual couple doing that, having a "traditional", nuclear family? Don't think so.

You're entitled to your opinion, but your opinion isn't entitled to rule how people live their lives.

This is exactly why I'm a firm believer in the separation between church and state. When people start using their own beliefs to govern society it begins to crumble. We've seen this time and time again throughout history.

Then what do you say to a heterosexual couple who cannot conceive a child biologically. Is it still unnatural? I'm a supporter of adoption more than any other option of becoming a parent, but that's not for anyone to decide if the option is natural or not. It's the end result that is natural. A parents love for a child. I'm sure that your god or any other wouldn't disagree about that.
