  • Recommend Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald?

First off, I'm pretty new to Pokémon in general, so I don't have a large quantity of games yet. I really want to get at least one from every generation. So today I ask, should I get Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald? I don't just want to buy one because I like the color better, and I would like to hear from those who have played them. I have done a little research, and it sounds like Emerald does nothing but good for the game, but I'm still not 100% sure which one I should get. Any reason of answer would be greatly appreciated. :)

  • Good question! Out of the three I first got Sapphire and clocked up many hours on it, I loved it and it personally became my favourite Pokémon game to date but that's just because of the Hoenn region in general and everything else that comes along with it. I guarentee you will enjoy playing any of the three, I did get Ruby but my friend got Ruby as I got Sapphire so I was more dedicated to Sapphire and got Ruby later on when I was more into the later Pokémon games. It was then that Emerald came out which is basically the third game to Ruby & Sapphire, that means it has the elements of Ruby & Sapphire and more included in it so I would go for Emerald if I was you.

Examples: With Ruby you drive out Team Magma and in Sapphire it's Team Aqua, in Emerald it's both Aqua and Magma with a truly spectacular storyline.
With Ruby you encounter Groudon and Sapphire you'll get Kyogre, in Emerald you get both Kyogre & Groudon so you get the best of both worlds really with that game but it's entierly upto you, I would research before making any decisions to see which is more to your liking.

Emerald is basically Ruby and Sapphire + bonus content. If you're going to get just 1, that'd be the way to go.

I would go for emerald since it gives you best of both worlds (like said before), i dose not have a berry glitch (after playing 100h+ (trust me it happens when you really like the game) time based events (berries for example) stop since the game thinks time is not moving), Battle Frontier - it gives you the option to chose what kind of fights you want and what styles really amazing and it makes endgame complete if you ask me ^_^. Gen3 is a amazing generation and its awesome that you are gonna try it (it is my favorite) hope you will have the same opinion :D

  • I would reccomend Emerald if your going to get just 1 because it is basically Ruby and Sapphire with more features ( I won't spoil them) and provides a bit more of a challenge.

Emerald will give out a lot more to do. It has a larger PokeDex and the Battle Frontier, the ability to battle/catch all three of the Weather Trio in a single game, as well as a ton more double battles. Those alone will keep you occupied for a while.

  • Emerald. Its basically the same as Ruby and Sapphire, but with bonus content such as the Battle Frontier. Also, the elite 4 champion is different.

  • It is hard... I first played Sapphire then Ruby then Emerald... If you want a legit copy, then Emerald's the way to go... But if you have enough money, then consider buying R/S. Emerald may have a slightly greater storyline, but if you want nostalgia or something like that, then Ruby and Sapphire should go first. Again, it is your call... =) Good luck!

  • Emerald all the way! It offers better gameplay and more Pokemon than in Emerald and the post game has more to it than Ruby and Sapphire does! So I'd reccomend Emerald.

  • I'd definitely recommend Emerald :)

I never had Sapphire or Ruby, and when I got Emerald it completely blew my mind, seriously it fast became the reason for me loving Generation 3 so much :) I hadn't had an experience like that since Pokémon Silver so yeah, Emerald is definitely the way to go, imo at least :)

  • Even though I've only owned Sapphire, from the little time I had access to Emerald, I'd already liked the game much more. The game has a longer story to it, and unlike R/S, the Battle Frontier gives you a reason to continue playing the game after you beat the Elite Four.

Yeah, it is true that Emerald is kinda superior to the other two games. But I personally played Sapphire, and it was awesome, to say the least. But I was annoyed that I can only get Latias in Sapphire (I thought Latios looked epic), which is why I recommend Ruby.

Also, I played crystal before silver (I didn't have gold), and it was just......so-so. I think it's better to experience how the original game changed to the remake version.

If you are only buying one game, I guess many people do suggest Emerald......But I still go for Ruby.

Emerald defiantly it has a lot more content
and if your having trouble with defeating the elite four you can always catch rayquaza and utterly annihilate everything+ you can choose if you want latias or latios
And the Battle frontier was really fun too it gives you more things to do after beating the elite four and champion they also brought back the little pokemon animation from crystal so the game looks better too

For me, I prefer Ruby to Emerald since I played it more than Emerald. What annoys me about Emerald is the fact that the dreaded phone feature is back. Expect them to call you a lot. But hey, it's your call!

It turns out I was wrong about Emerald. Apparently you don't have to call the trainers in order to rematch them (I thought you do until finding out when streaming Emerald.) I just couldn't confirm.
