I'm no computer expert, but I can try and help. What's your router's make and model?

For example, a NETGEAR WGR614 Wireless-G Router.

Oh, do you have a WEP key for your router security? If not, you need to change your existing router security to WEP in order for your DS to connect to it.

Hmmm... might be a firewall or antivirus... try shutting both off just while you're online with your DS

Alright, make sure you're connected to the net where you can get on wi-fi, then go down to the basement and talk to one of the ladies down there. She'll give you a Pal Pad, then when you connect to Wi-fi for the first time, you'll get a 12-digit Friend Code. Once you get it, let me know what it is. You can also post it in your signature :)
