Actually, "gymno" is Greek and then Latin for "naked," hence "gymnasium," "Gymnopedie," etc. "Gymnodinium" references this and adds in "-dein" meaning to whirl. edit I also read that it's now called Karenia brevis :D
"Gymnotide" is more of a reference to "Gymnotidae," the plural form of "gymnotid," the family from which "naked" back knifefish are found. Within this family is a variety of slender eel-like fish and Electrophorus electricus, the electic eel!
Also, never capitalize the species :P
