Article: Spaceworld 1997 demo for Pokemon Gold leaked and datamined

Wow, there's a lot to unpack here. I like how these old designs give a bit more insight into the design process. For example, Aipom seems to have been initially based more directly on an ahuizotl, without any monkey influences, and the proto-Sneasel looks more like an actual weasel. With the...

    [Showcase] Cyberglass' Fakemon

Icons! Gen VI style. Also, I decided to try my hand at some Gen II style sprites, starting with some of my favorite Gen IV evolutions:

Still haven't finished the rival's battle sprite, but I did finish another evolution line (including re-drawing the base form more on-model): Kaketaiji and Taitaika, Fighting-types. "Kaketaiji" is a combination of kakedashi, Japanese for "beginner", and Tai Chi. "Taitaika", similarly, is a...

I've been working on drawing more human characters lately; here is the vs sprite for your rival: See if you can figure out what's on her shirt before I finish the full-body sprite! I also went back and redesigned the pre-evolution of Urfin: Sandol is a Water-type, and is based on a sand...

4th Gen How did you defeat Cynthia's Garchomp?

My first time through, Garchomp killed my Ice-type (I don't even remember what it was) so I had to Toxic stall it with my Crobat, using Fly + Black Sludge to recover from the initial Dragon Rush... I'm still not sure how I pulled that one off. More recently, I've had some success with a Levitate...

Bewaift is pure Ghost-type. I'm not a fan of most Fakemon myself, so reactions like yours are exactly what I'm aiming for when I design. It means I'm on the right track. Save

[Showcase] Volcarona1996's Fakedex (WIP, Early Stage)

The concepts are okay, but I see two main things you could work on improving: one, the evolutions don't look different enough from their base form; both the evolutions here look like they could be the same as before, but in a different pose. Compare with something like Rattata to Raticate, or...

    Four Islands Four Tiki Gods

Considering that there are potentially four tiki guardians, and Legendaries usually only come in groups of two or three, a new category wouldn't be out of the question.

Very nice! I envy your ability to sprite human characters. The only critique I have on this new batch is that some of the details on the white-haired woman (sorry, I don't recognize the character) look a bit indistinct, especially her fingers. Other than that, these look great!

I've had the first two of these finished for a while, but I wanted to post the whole evolutionary line at once. Pebblos, Stoulder, and Saurolith. Rock-type. These are actually not fossils, just a rarer cave Pokémon. Based on stalagmites and balancing stones, with sauropod forms.

Possamp & co. are intended to be Pikaclones, yes, so they do share the same basic body structure, but I did not "use" the Raichu line. All three were sprited from scratch, and I did not intentionally copy their poses from anywhere. I have never used the process you seem to be implying anywhere...

    [Showcase] Cyberglass' Fakemon

Thanks for the critique! I'm not sure what you mean by "scratch-made poses" and "bases", though... my general process is to sketch the design, then draw the pixel art from scratch using the sketch as a reference. The only times I can think of that would count as using a base is that I did base...

Only for the starters so far. I do have party icons for most of them, though. I've been debating whether to post them or just keep with front sprites until I release the actual game/demo.

It's been a while, hasn't it? Have some more Fakemon. Skrattail: the muskrat Fakemon. Water-type. Cattails form a large part of the diet of real muskrats, so it was only natural to combine the two. Vandecoot: Poison/Electric-type. I feel like the enemy team in my games will like using these...

Article: What are Solgaleo and Lunala based on?

I assumed the Steel-typing on Solgaleo was a reference to the White Tiger of the West in Chinese and Japanese mythology, which represents the element of metal in the Chinese five-element system as well as the direction West (corresponding to the setting sun), the color white, and the season of...
