Ah right, couldn't think of a reason why using DS would remove any bugs but I didn't realize the bug list hadn't been updated yet. Just started playing from Drayano's recommendation, seriously impressed with the amount of work that's gone into this game.

Yes you can play this on 3ds by using NewSuperUltimateInjector, interestingly playing on console also removes a few of the known bugs - such as the options menu bug.

I can't remember exactly but go to Route 123 and talk to everyone around there, I think I got it from a woman and she might have been hidden away or had her back turned.

I'd recommend using a Gen 3 Save Editor to edit out the problem item in your bag.
