True, when I first got Blue, and I saw Gary/Green/Blue I was always like "Oh, I've got to battle him again, are my Pokémon healed?" I've never thought about the reason he might've been at that place. Still, I think it's better to say his Raticate died, it adds a bit of reality in the game, and...

You could also grind a bit more, really. My whole team of 6 was level 60-65 when I first took them on, that way the elite 4 wasn't all that hard. Or, if you train that dratini of yours a bit, you could easily win, since dragon types have an advantage over other dragon types, or you could go and...

My first shiny was a Mr.mime... in the freaking safari zone in HG. Ohgod, I remember freaking out, and trying to catch it... it escaped though :'( I never encountered a shiny before or after that, well yeah, maybe back in the days in GSC but I can't really remember xd

True, back in the days of RBY I always used a Butterfree :3 and you can also get a Murkrow with a Pokewalker, I can't remember which course it was but it's not that hard to get by, I used it for a while until I wanted a Pokemon that could evolve before the league. ( couldn't get a stone ;f )

I always grind in my games, since I used to never do it, and then I ended up in the league with every Pokemon being in their 30s, now I'm a bit of a grinding maniac, in Heart Gold I'm currently training up to 70 just for Kanto. I'm probably going to train to 100 before I reach Red..
