Have someone add your code that has the safari unlocked, then they can go to yours and tell you the type/mons. You will have 2/3 until you beat the elite 4 and are online while they are - then you can have up to three in your safari.

I almost always pick Chikorita for my Gen 2 games. Although as others have stated the evolution line is more defensive, I prefer the defensive types when playing the games.

^ This, except with HG for me. I never really put too much thought into the teams I'd use in the previous pokemon games, but with all the changes and what not as this was the first gen 4 game I'd played - I felt like I had to do more planning than usual with the team of pokemon I'd end up with.

This is exactly what I do with my pokemon. I usually rotate every couple levels so my team stays somewhat even, all six generally get some time in the follower slot :3
