I personally think Empoleon, which was my starter, was the best among the rest. Basically, it's stats and skills outraged the gym leaders when I used it. :)

My strongest Pokemon was probably my starter, Piplup which then evolved to it's 3rd evolution. I got it to lvl 65 before the E4, the other one, Garchomp was lvl 55.
