I beat team rocket and beat the gym leader and I'm trying to get to Blackthorn City But on the right side of the Mahogany town to get to Blackthorn City. Is it with team rocket ? Ummmm.. I don't really remember but I though you skip this girl gym leader.. she not there or something wrong with her pokemon and you go to the next gym. Ummmm Try Checking the old gold maybe it's the same.
