For ErSaccocio: I'd suggest Bloody Platinum for 4th gen and Blaze Black/Volt White for 5th gen hacks. They have greatly expanded pokedex ranges, a higher level curve, and an overall increase in difficulty of enemy teams, and so far as I'm aware, make no changes to the story or progression.

I used to play a ton of ROM hacks and fangames quite a while ago, but I hadn't really checked on very much of what's being made now. It's pretty amazing how far things have come since the days of stuff like Quartz! However, I'm also more than a little overwhelmed by the sheer amount of options...
