Yesterday I watched Charizard's Burning Ambitions. The episode in Johto where Ash's Charizard joins the Charicific Valley to hone his skills and strength. I think it was over 100 episodes later when Ash and Charizard finally reunited.

Was Larvitar with Ash for about 5 episodes?

I definitely liked this change in Gary for Johto it brought a more genuinely competitive and serious tone to their rivalry. I thought Umbreon and Gary were a great combo, pity he didn't use it against Ash in the League.
