Hey Redsaber just a question with the ROM expanding won't you need to tell the people who are going to play the Hack to also expand the orginal ROM before applying the patch and if you are worried about it being too big won't you just delete a few FF (free space) in the Hex editor.

To answer your question by saving the file as an Index will keep it as an index file even if you paste a 16 colour image (e.g a pokemon) I'm not sure what happens when you paste a 256 colour image.

I suggest if you don't have it you don't have to buy it because it may not always work.

Have you tried indexing your image on Photo Shop?
