I wasn't initially going to use Furfrou in my party, but I got one via Wonder Trade and it actually turned out to be a good early-game damage dealer, especially once it learned Headbutt. Its Fur Coat ability is really handy, too.

Zubat in Pokemon Silver. I've had three shiny zubats, actually. The only other one I've had was a Cascoon in Ruby. That was the last one, though - haven't come across a shiny for nearly a decade.

It might help to keep a website with a Pokedex open nearby while playing at first, too - that way you can easily check the types of any pokemon you aren't sure of. I remember doing that when I first started Black (since I hadn't memorized all the new pokemon beforehand) and it worked pretty well.

Yeah, I haven't been this hyped for a Pokemon game since Ruby/Sapphire when I was 13. In part I think it's because of the new presentation, and in part because I really enjoyed gen 5 a lot and it rekindled some of my excitement for the series.

I'm getting both, but I'm planning to main Y since I prefer the exclusives just slightly, especially the Skrelp line. I'll mostly mess around with X at work.
