As for general advice, I'll wait until I can check out your work because that'll probably be the easier way to do it. Beyond that, though, I'll have to give you a small warning about the forums. They're a great place to hang around, but as of late, we've seriously been lacking reviews. Besides bobandbill (our current best reviewer), there's not really many people sitting down to offer feedback, and those who do usually offer up one-liners. Don't let this discourage you, though. People will still drop by to do some reading, so it's definitely not like you're talking to a brick wall or anything, if you know what I mean.
Also, it helps to be active. We've got a lot of awesome discussion topics in Writer's Lounge to help get you into the community and to help you out in general. The stickies especially are chock full of some tips or spots where you can participate, so they're definitely worth your time.
About shippings, it's really not that hard to go into a fic and play around with romances. If you can write a fic with one pairing, adding a second or more is just a matter of making sure you keep everyone in character and using the same techniques you would for the first one, if that makes sense.
