I'm aware that most of the pokemon universe uses legendaries and some pokemon that really should be legendary (Metagross, Dragonite). On the other side of that coin the majority of the pokemon universe is terrible at competitive games. These people want to play with pokemon rocking top end unbalanced stats and at the same time outlaw moves that aren't so tailored to click-and-smash. Why aren't evasion moves and multi sleep teams generally accepted? Because using a status effect to step around a smash smash smash mindset falls outside of that school of thought. I've been fed the "because we don't want thing that just have a chance of happening" cookie a few times. If that's the case moves that have a 10% chance to burn or freeze shouldn't be allowed, nor moves with a 95% chance to hit, or anything with a chance. In other words, that's a load of crap.
Allowing the use of unbalanced pokemon discourages diversity and encourages very boring vanilla teams stocked with high stats and brings the amount of strategy really down to the floor. How does the average mindless pokemon player think when they build their team? Very shallowly: 'what can I use that has really high attack and speed?' These aren't players I can possibly take seriously. I wish there were more people with a better idea of how to actually build something unique and make quality decisions with those tools, but it just doesn't happen a lot and encouraging them not to change their ways is just going to make it worse.
That said I'd love to compete in an event, but playing against single minded players all day is going to fall short of competing. Thanks for the invite, but I think I have to pass. :-(
