To get accurate IV's, people will do Wifi battles, then Write down the stats of their pokemon, without actually battling. This helps if you want to pick out the strongest pokemon from a batch of newly hatched eggs. Since in wifi battles set your pokemon at lv 100 automaticly for the duration of the battle.

I know you may be eager to try out competitive battling, but first I wonder, do you EV train? if you don't know what it is, read this:

If you don't EV train, you won't stand a chance of defeating any battlers on wi-fi. I know it's a big read, but if battling really interests you, I suggest you read it.
