Yes, this is a long post. Yes, all of it is necessary. Sorry about that.

Section One: Plotline
This is not the childlike world you thought you knew.
Those words explain everything about this world ? a world full of monsters and magic. A world? of Pok?mon.
Three hundred and sixty years have passed since Ash Ketchum had trained. His name, faded by the passing of time, has become nothing more than a legend playing upon the children's ears. And with his absence from the world comes a much darker effect: there are no heroes on which to call. In this world, the dark forces of Team Rocket, Magma, Aqua, and Snagem have all been defeated by the fallen angels that were formerly of their hellish ranks. Together, former rivals united under one name ? the Knights of the Morning Star. Soon, the cult-like organization slaughtered its way to the top by implanting agents in every possible field of control. In a matter of years, governments all over the world housed a member of the Knights, whether they knew it or not, and in decades, entire countries were controlled without opposition by the group. Yet no one desired to stop them simply because of the fear that had been generated by the secret weapon they supposedly carried ? the very Pok?mon they used to annihilate the four Teams that once stood in their way.
Thus comes the present. The Knights have reigned for what seemed like eternity, leaving the Earth as a wasteland and its once majestic cities as crowded slums. You have arrived in what once was Saffron City, the golden city of Kanto and the supposed home of the Knights. Your duty: your choice. Good, evil, and neutral ? bent on taking down the Knights, bent on helping their rise, or caught in the middle. What path will you choose?
Section Two: Rules and Greetings From the Game Mistress
So, you've read the storyline so far, and you say you still want to be a part of Beast In the Machine? Well, might I say I'm impressed, and I welcome you to a (very) literate Pok?mon RPG. Yes, that's right. It's none of that Mary Sue, let's pretend to be Pok?mon stuff that you've seen on most other boards. This, my friends, is something better.
There's only a few rules other than the usual (post in coherent English, board rules apply), but please. Don't let that damper the mood. We're here to have fun, after all.
Rule List
1. Basic rules of RPGing apply. No godmodding, twinking, powergaming, or Sueing, please. (In other words, don't bend reality, don't control other people's characters, and don't create godly characters.)
2. No legendaries. There are only two legendaries in the world of the RPG, but they are currently in hiding, not on your team.
3. If you wish to be an elite member of the Knights (among the only players/members who know what the secret weapon is), you must first have another active character who has made at least five posts in the RPG.
4. A player may have up to three characters.

Knights of the Morning Star Hierarchy
Boss: Obviously, the boss of the organization. The position is hereditary, meaning if you're born to the family, you're guaranteed the position (unless the current boss has no children or deems his or her children unfit for the job). Currently held by Wednesday Lordes.
Archs: The elite members of the Knights. There have only been four of them ? four of the most trustworthy employees of the Lordes family and four of the most skilled members in the organization. Unlike the boss position or the lower positions, a member is not hired to be an Arch, nor is he or she born to the position or promoted automatically. Instead, whenever an Arch dies or retires (which usually mean the same thing for the safety of the organization), a new one is appointed by the boss.
Duke: Higher-ranked members. Dukes are not quite Archs, but they possess the qualities of one ? trustworthy, loyal, and skilled. They usually hold the higher positions in each field the Knights has a hand in ? executives in businesses, congressmen in the federal governments, et cetera. To become a Duke, a person usually must first have been with the Knights for a certain number of years (thirty, to be exact), and they must have shown an incredible amount of success during that time. It is from this group that Archs are chosen.
Squire: Medium-level members. These are members who show promise but are not quite ready for higher jobs. They are usually put to work in local governments or for more advanced projects.
Serf: Low-ranked members. These can be compared with the grunts such as Jessie and James in Team Rocket. They usually do lower jobs such as stealing Pok?mon, capturing a small area, or other dirty jobs for the glory of the Knights. Most Serfs are simply new members, but it's not uncommon for higher-ranked members to be demoted to this position or for members to be so unsuccessful it's impossible for them to be promoted.
Priest: A little-known position within the ranks of the Knights. Anyone skilled in occult or religious matters can become a Priest in the Knights, and due to this, they are usually in charge of the "religious ceremonies" that take place within the Knights' headquarters. Only the boss, Archs, and Dukes know of the existence of this faction.
Trainer Categories
Trainers: Your basic trainers. They catch Pok?mon, raise them, and use them to battle against others. There are several subgenres that classify the level of skill and the type of Pok?mon a trainer possesses. For example, skill classes include Trainer, Gym Leader, Elite Four member, Junior Trainer, et cetera. Classes that imply a type specialty include Swimmers, Hex Maniacs, Psychics, Bird Trainers, and others.
Breeders: Pok?mon breeders specialize in the care of Pok?mon. Rather than battling Pok?mon, they breed Pok?mon and raise them from infants to maturity. Breeders usually participate in contests to show off their skills.
Note: Such contests that do involve battling exist only in Hoenn, and its participants, who are both Trainers and Breeders, are called Pok?mon Coordinators.
Experts: Experts in the field of Pok?mon pride themselves over the knowledge of Pok?mon, rather than anything else. They may own their own Pok?mon, but they prefer to study wild ones, rather than catch or breed their own. Note: Many Experts may also have extensive knowledge in the field of technology and combine their talents to provide devices for trainers such as the Pok?dex, various forms of the Pok?Ball, and the Pok?mon Transportation System. Subgenres include Pok?maniacs (who are known to battle) as well as Pok?mon researchers and Pok?mon nurses (who generally do not battle).
Others: The "other" category encompasses those who use Pok?mon but do not fit within the subgenres of Trainers, Breeders, and Experts. This category includes police officers (usually Officer Jenny), thieves, scientists, et cetera. People within this branch may or may not battle, depending on preference and occupation.
Section Four: FAQ
Q. I still don't get it.
A. That's not a question, but whatever. Basically, in this RPG, you play either a member of the Knights of the Morning Star, a rebel going against them, or someone who's unfortunately caught in the middle. If you're a Knight, you're bent on keeping the organization in power by oppressing the rebels using any method at your disposal. If you're a rebel, you're bent on forcing the Knights to dismantle for whatever reason you can conjure. And if you're a Neutral, not only do I feel very sorry for you, but you're also basically there to get caught in between the fighting. (Eventually, you may lean towards one or the other. It depends on who's more convincing to you.)
Q. How many moves may each Pok?mon have?
A. An unlimited amount. Beast In the Machine is an anime-based RPG, which means certain laws present in the game, including the "four moves per Pok?mon" rule, are not regarded because they aren't in the anime. However, I do wish that you not abuse the term "anime-based" by having your Pikachu fry a Geodude.
Q. What other facts of the game are not regarded in the anime/Beast In the Machine?
A. Beast In the Machine shares these characteristics with the anime:
-Pok?mon may wander outside of their Pok?Balls.
-The Pok?mon Transportation System transports Pok?mon to the place where a trainer got their Pok?dex, not to a PC.
-The Pok?dex was invented by Professor Westwood V, not Professor Oak.
-A tournament is held on Indigo Plateau every year. Therefore, trainers do not have to defeat the Elite Four (who do exist ? as strong trainers only) to become League Champions.
-All parts of the anime storyline happened. (For example, Sabrina kept a Haunter for company.)
Q. What groups are present in Saffron City?
A. Knights of the Morning Star (obviously), the rebels (name suggestions welcome), and the Neutrals (slang term for people who are neither for or against the Knights).
Q. Why is Knights of the Morning Star considered to be "cult-like"?
A. Occult rituals are held in the basement of the base (which used to be Silph Co). Actually, I'm not kidding.
Further questions may be PMed to me at any time.
Section Five: Characters
Knights of the Morning Star
Player: Kaz Tamashii
Name: Wednesday Lordes
Age: 25
Occupation: Boss
Appearance: Wednesday has short, black hair done in a bob style, with her hair never reaching past the chin of her heart-shaped face. Her form is tall, thin (yet still shapely), and pale-skinned, and it's usually covered by a black business ensemble of some sort (usually black blazer, knee-length skirt, and pumps). The only other notable things on her body are her blood-red lips and the gold ring with a ruby literally covering the emblem of the Knights (a sun with a three-eyed face etched into it).
Personality: To put very simply, Wednesday is cold, cruel, short-tempered, and vindictive. She hardly notices anyone else around her save for those who have wronged her, and mainly those people are the unlucky ones. The main thing is one never questions her authority. Things better be done her way or else. (Needless to say, she hardly sees anyone as anything more than pawns to use for her own personal gain, though not to many people really realize that.)
Affiliation: Knight
Team: Murkrow, Arbok, Persian, Ninetales, Banette, Jynx
Further Notes:
- Wednesday was the only heir to the Knights. She was raised and trained to become its new leader, and eventually, the day came when she rose to power when her father mysteriously passed away. She barely loved her mother (due to the train of thought that the latter was weak) and so kept her by her side as only a secretary until she, too, passed away.
- Her family was originally affiliated with Team Rocket until that organization disbanded.
Link to Writing Sample: Linked here.

Name: Angel
Age: 17
Occupation: Serf
Appearance: Long blond hair that she usually keeps tied back. She wears black sweatpants and a pink halter top. Her eyes are bright blue.
Personality: Angel is affectionate. She is, however, also very secretive and mysterious.
Affiliation: Knight
Team: Raichu, Lairon, Altaria, Swampert, Gardevoir, Flareon
Further Notes: Grew up with Kat and Rem. They don't know that she is a Knight.

Affiliation: Evil
Team: Raichu (by his side), golduck, scizor, gengar, arcanine, hypno
Further Notes: He trained with the knight since he was ten, they did not tell him that they left his sister alive so he thought she was dead. He and her got their first pokemon (pichus) at young ages so all he can remember about his sister is how she was so clueless in battle and how her timidness made her a target for bullying. All he has of hers is a picture os the two of them with their pichu. He is extremly ruthless in battle and he is also cold and unfeeling, that is why alot of people fear or respect him.
Rebels

Crys also has a pair of lavender tinted sunglasses. She wears shimmery lavender eyeshadow and clear lipgloss to finish the look off.
Personality: Crys is strong- but has her weaknesses. She is shy- yet outgoing with her friends and family. She is an open book- yet mysterious and closed at the same time. She's a brave heart and loves adventure. She loves her pokemon and sister to pieces, and would do anything to protect them.
Affiliation: Rebel
Team: Lea (Female, Espeon, roams by Crys' side) Beauty (Female, Milotic) Flaze (Male, Blaziken) Celestia (Female, Kirlia, SHINY if allowed) Mystic (Male, Flygon) Shadow (Male, Absol)

Personality: Serenity is rather calm and gentle. She is willing to help her sister Crys all she can. She has a friendly dispostion, her smile can melt anyone's heart if she wanted to (Well, almost anyone's...). She tries to nurtue her pokemon the best she could, being friendly and at ease.
Affiliation: Rebel
Team: Joy (Female, Blissey) Peace (Female, Gardevior) Love (Female, Milotic) Tranquility (Female, Dragonite) Patience (Female, Chimecho, roams by her side)
Further Notes:
-She has her pokemon as company, sometimes as defense when needed.

Jace also wears two plain brass rings; one on each middle finger.
Personality: Jace is generally a good natured person, but can become very bitter to anyone who rubs him the wrong way. Jace can also tend be to be introverted and cynical, but these traits almost completely disappear around people, and pokemon, he knows and trusts.
Affiliation: Rebel
Team: Eevee, Murkrow, & Houndour
Further Notes: Running from demons in his past, Jace will do all he can to repent for his sins. However, he will soon find that the world is not all black and white.
Neutrals
Player: Kaz Tamashii
Name: Gillian Thomas
Age: 19
Occupation: Breeder
Appearance: Gillian, put simply, is a girl who looks like a boy. She has a tall, thin, fairly androgynous figure and a particularly male face. Short, wild, light brown hair crowns her head and frames her oval-shaped face, in which is embedded a pair of emotionless, blue eyes that peer behind a pair of wire-rimmed spectacles. She usually wears baggy jeans and an overlarge, grey hooded sweater over a loose-fitting, red t-shirt (which probably adds more to the gender confusion surrounding her). On her feet are a pair of large, dirty (and scuffed), brown work boots that almost match the leather gloves that don her hands.
Personality: Basically, Gillian is apathetic towards a lot of things. She's generally indifferent and prefers not to associate with other people (mainly because she doesn't care about what they do). However, when spoken to, she's mainly quiet unless an answer is forced out of her (at which point she may become irritated and snappy). Otherwise, to hide her lack of confidence and her mediocre intelligence, she just doesn't get into too many conversations. When she does make a friend, however, she can be loyal if she wants to, though she will continue to remain indifferent to the actions taken by her friends (unless she finds them particularly stupid). Overall, she's mainly practical and stubborn.
Affiliation: Neutral, leaning towards Rebel
Team: Farfetch'd, Quagsire, Raticate, Venomoth, Ditto
Further Notes:
- Gillian was originally from Azalea Town, but her travels eventually led her to Saffron City.
- Her basic dream is to become a world-famous Pok?mon breeder (or at least to set up a successful shop in downtown Saffron).
- She has a younger brother (and living parents), but she doesn't mention them that often for one reason or another.
Link to Writing Sample: See Wednesday's profile.
Player: Trainer Kat
Name: Rem
Age: 16
Occupation: Pokemon Coordinator
Appearance: Rem has jet black hair (obviously dyed). He has side bangs which completely cover his left eye. His eyes are normal blue. He wears a tight black shirt and tight black jeans. He has a lip ring that is off to the right side.
Personality: Rem is quiet and withdrawn. He is shy and doesn't even talk much with his friends, let alone total strangers.
Affiliation: Neutral
Team: Blaziken, Umbreon, Rhydon, Delcatty, Roselia, Masquerain.
Further Notes: Grew up with Angel and Kat. Travels with Kat. Doesn't know Angel is a Knight.
Player: Paige Pelletier
Name: Paige
Age: 12
Occupation: Highly Ranked Trainer
Appearance: Paige has dark brown hair that goes down to her ankles, she puts her hair up into two ponytails, she has deep brown eyes, and her skin is pale but has a soft tan to it. She wears a large red t shirt and baggy jeans, she also wears sneakers. She has a black messenger backpack, she has long nails (but not creepy long) and wears black fingerless gloves, she also wears a pair of silver celtic knot earrings.
Personality: Extremly shy and timid tries to stay away from people, and also tries to be polite. She does not trust anyone but her brother even though she knows he is with the knights. Her personality varies alot so you can never tell what she is thinking but it seems she always knows what you are thinking.
Affiliation: Neutral
Team: Pichu (on her shoulder), horsea, dragonite, absol, vulpix, cubone
Further Notes: Paige's family were rebels and were an extreme pain to the knights. So one day the knights sent some one to kill off her family, her brother who did not like the family eagerly joined the knights but everyone else was killed. This happened when Paige was five and when Gabriel was ten so to say the least she was on her own. She saw her family get killed but when it was her turn to die they just shrugged her off because of how young she was. She was left an orphan, so she took off and trained her pokemon. She is really conflicted because she loves her brither but the team he joined killed her family. On another note she has been known as a ruthless trainer in battle and does not really have any 'friends'.
Player: Gohan
Name: Peregine ( Said like Peregine Falcon but I prolly spelled it wrong. ^^; )
Age:
Occupation: A thief and a bit of a breeder if possible.
Appearance: Peregine has blond hair about down to his neck. His eyes are grey and his skin is brown. He usually wears a black cap backwards and a black shirt with the sleeves torn off. And black pants too with chains hanging from his pockets. He is always carrying around at least four knives. One in his boot, one in his pocket, one in a special compartment inside his jacket, and usually one in his hand or other pocket.
Personality: The gangster thief. He has a bad mouth and is always beating people up. He really likes pokemon and people though, he only beats up the lowlifes who mistreat pokemon. Unfortunantly most people he meets aren't very kind.
Affiliation: Neutral lucky for him, bad for others.
Team: Arcanine ( Skippey ), Sentret ( Streetel ), Jolteon ( Biole ), Poliwhirl ( Pog ), Dragonite ( Wilt ), Aipom ( Ase ). Don't ask how or why I came up with these names, its just they are my dream team.
Further Notes: Peregine ran away from home as a young boy and lived on the treets. He is a true combat junkie and likes to start fights. Hes been brought into the hospital more than once, and then hes also been brought into jail more than once, too. He doesn't try to escape though, he just does the time. He was trained on the streets as an innocent child, but he spied on the enemies for his gang. Now hes on his own, he seperated from the gang and went on his own. And... he writes poetry?!

Jace also wears two plain brass rings; one on each middle finger.
