Just finished my SU. Hope everything is acceptable. I really liked the potential for this character once she got planet-side. A lot of little emotional nuances that could be toyed with. I hope my description of the EXO is ok. I figured since her field of study is a little different and kind of would require flying under the radar at times, that it would be a neat concept of the Adaptive Camouflage. If anything at all needs to be changed, just go ahead and let me know.
I also decided to throw in some easter eggs into the actual RP example section. Some may be obvious, some not so. There are also some in the SU sheet, in particular, names. I figured since Earth still existed, there would be some carryover. If any of the references are out of place, let me know. :D
Name: Olivia Jane Niwri
Nickname: Otter (Her husband's pet name for her)
Age: 28
Gender: Female
Appearance: Olivia looks slightly younger than her legal age. A downside of her moderately youthful round face that gives her an air of "visual" innocence. Growing up she always wished she was taller, her height peaked when she was sixteen years old at roughly around five feet four inches. Although her height in retrospect was well within the average. Her height comes primarily from her legs, her torso being only slightly shorter in proportion. Due to her line of work in the field, her body is neither slim nor thick, but a healthy athletic build.
Her tanned skin tone is contrasted by her 'board' straight, black, shoulder length hair and light blue eyes. Her close set eyes and straight-set nose sit above her even sized lips. On the left side of her throat, one could see an old vertical scar from her formative years as a Zoologist. The wound was obtained by a close encounter with a predator as he held her in his jaws. Due to her job, she wears no makeup or fragrances.
Her "field" clothes consist of many things that meet the necessities of her work. One pair of her standard black fitted jeans. The usual standard pockets, complemented by two side and two by the ankles. One sky blue turtleneck with removable sleeves, two pockets in the front for her hands and hoodie for the rain on the back. Beneath this, she wears standard light grey hiking boots with thick soles.
Background: Olivia is what one might call a privileged child. She never found herself wanting for anything. Her father (Stephen) and mother (Jane), both found each other at a young age. They were married young, and had Olivia within two years of their marriage. Although her family life was happy and everyone in it close. The closeness was emotional and not proximity. Her parent's jobs called them away from home frequently. Her father was a pilot and her mother a nurse at the local hospital in Olivia's home city of London.
Her closest friend growing up, was her dog Chloe. A loyal German Shephard who served as both a watchdog and confidant. Anything she told Chloe only stayed between her and Chloe. She did have friends in school, but they never became more than that, "School friends". They never hung out outside of school, her time spent more on her homework and drawing. A passion for drawing was second only to her love of animals. Many a spring evenings were spent on the back balcony sketching the squirrels and other assorted birds and wildlife.
During her teenage years, she entered the dating world. To say things were uneventful and almost woeful would be an understatement. Never being the "cool" kid or even the moderately "normal" kid, she had few dates. Each one of which was more awkward than the last. It wasn't until college that she eventually met the man she would marry. When she was twenty years old, her path crossed with a deceptively handsome young pre-med student. Gavin Eli Niwri.
The two dated for almost three years, a few arguments resulting in some drama here or there, but nothing that could ruin the relationship. Gavin wanted children, but Olivia didn't care too much for the idea. She eventually won and on the night of her graduation, in a bit of a role reversal, she proposed to him, her parents together in attendance for the few times they could manage. Gavin accepted and a year later they were married.
Their married years passed uneventfully, both of them becoming well respected in their fields and their bond becoming even tighter. It wasn't long before a job openings for both of them became a dream come true. The Space Station Tyo came calling. Openings for both Surgeons and Zoologists became available. With glowing professional and personal references, they both secured the jobs. He would be posted on the station and she would take part in an EXO establishment team pertaining to a ground based lab.
Personality: What is strength? Is it physical? Or simply a state of being? In Olivia's mind strength is what personifies a person's character. Due to such a viewpoint, Olivia considers herself to be a fairly independent person. One who won't back down to bullies, but will gratefully accept advice and instruction when needed. Her temperament is mild, she neither presses for conflict, nor shies away from it. Typically, Olivia will not be the first one to initiate an argument.
Although she considers herself strong, she does suffer from a bit of an introverted personality in regards to friendships and acquaintances. She values her family above all else, often times she is caught saying she "wouldn't know what to do without them", her husband in particular. She fears loss, loss of friends, loss of pets, loss of love. It doesn't matter, she abhors the thought of being robbed of anyone's company.
When dealing with a stressful situation, Olivia presses herself to an extreme breaking point to try and find a solution. Her determination gets stronger, her personality slightly more domineering and her body pushed to the limit. One of the few ways she eliminates stress, is by enjoying a few moments of artistic expression. Her passion for drawing the world around her is almost boundless in scope.
Olivia is often teased as being "liberal" by her husband. She hates any form of prejudice, believes in the equality of all mankind, and refuses to take a life without appropriate need. (Animal included) She is (of course) an eco-nut. In her opinion, technology should always work in harmony with nature, not replace it.
Underneath a lot of her visible strength, a tender heart beats for those that have permission to see it. Anyone who does get past her initial defenses, (although she will be cordial to anyone) will see the sincerity and kindness of her actions.
On the downside, she has a self depreciating opinion of herself. Her work is never good enough, her standards never met. She neither thinks of herself as pretty or smart. Although she is not a coward, she would never be the first to willingly volunteer to inspect a dark cavern or pretend to be the "fearless warrior". At times her resigned attitude has her come across as pompous, or her speech seem like she is pontificating. When excited, her attitude is highly impulsive and almost dangerously enthusiastic.
Her sense of humor runs more toward the dark and sarcastic side. She cares neither for puns nor jokes that require a punchline. People who treat serious matters with frivolous lack of concern aggravate and repel her.
Just some minor notes: Olivia's accent is British. She grinds her teeth in her sleep, especially when under stress. Bites her nails when bored. Does not like to shake hands.
"Peace cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved by understanding." ~ Albert Einstein
EXO Suit: An unusual Exo, in regards to the fact that it is built more for surveillance of wildlife and not primarily for other functions. The armor is approximately one and a half inches thick, with articulating interlocking plating to give a wider range of motion. The standard "base" color is bright white. This color being perfect for snowy conditions and not so good for any other biomes, her suit is equipped with a form of adaptive camouflage. This adaptive camouflage can adjust itself to her surroundings based upon the receptors built into the helmet. The downside being, that the ACAMO (Adaptive Camouflage) is prone to expediting the overheating process of her EXO while in use.
The helmet is adjusted specifically for her needs. The eye slots glow in a faint orange unless covered with shaders or enhanced optics are disabled. These slots give her enhanced binocular perception, night vision and a HUD to better document and label her surroundings through her dictation. On her back rests her medium sized, rectangular storage container.
In general the suit is small, not much larger than Olivia herself. The total height is roughly six and a half feet. It fits her almost like a second skin, the helmet perfectly molded for her head and humanoid in resemblance.
Work Skill: Zoologist
Personal Weapons: Long range laser stun rifle, two handheld electroshock neuromuscular incapacitation pistols. (Olivia does not believe in weapons that take lives. As a result, all her weapons are incapacitating in nature.)
Survival Gear: Small self erecting tent (sleeps 2-3 at most), Collapsable canteen, Personal Locator Beacon, Flare pistol with five flares, pocket multitool (Basically a swiss army knife).
RP Example:
"Good morning Dr. Niwri, the time is six thirty-five A.M. Please solve the following puzzle to stimulate brain activity and conclude the waking process." The robotic voice rang out through the confines of her room. Olivia peeked her head out from under the covers, her body freezing from the early morning room temperature. She had been meaning to turn it up, but Gavin was warm last night and she conceded this once. A simple geometric puzzle projected itself on the far wall across from her bed, a faint incessant buzzing noise serving as her alarm to ensure she didn't slip back into dreamland. She didn't drink coffee, didn't use stimulants, and didn't like cold showers. The only way to make sure she got out of bed in the morning, was to make these little puzzles that were only solvable in a wakened state.
"Slide the rhombus piece four spaces to the left, rotate forty-five degrees and intersect with the parallelogram," she called out into the room with a yawn, hoisting herself up on her elbows and wrapping the comforter around her for added warmth while she waited for her body to warm up from it's pseudo catatonic state.
"Very good Doctor, would you like me to run you through today's docket?" The always cheery and helpful voice answered back.
"Let me have it. Actually, on second thought, go ahead and sync it with my mobile, I'll gloss over it later."
"Done. Is there anything else I can be of assistance with?"
"No, that'll be all. Thank you, Siri." The ever present, semi-omnipotent artificial intelligence acknowledged her with a simple two tone din. Olivia let loose another stray yawn, her body pushing itself to take in as much oxygen as possible for the waking process.
"Did they have to make that thing so damn cheery?" Gavin joked, he was still laying on his side, the pillow over his head covering his ears. "It's almost creepy." He sat up with a disgruntled look, throwing the pillow back down onto the bed as he did so.
"You don't play it right, she might be the only woman in your life soon," she teased him playfully, casting him a wink. "I'll be leaving tomorrow, wouldn't want to piss her off now would we?"
"Say what you will, at least she doesn't blow me off to go spend time with space hyenas or whatever you'll find down there." He wrapped his arms around her, giving her a gentle kiss on the neck.
"Space hyenas, huh? Sounds like fun, a matriarchal society, women telling the men how to run things. Maybe other species should try it on for size." Olivia turned her head to face him, a devious cheshire cat grin spread across her face. At that moment, it struck her at how much she was going to miss him. No matter how much it hurt, she wasn't going to let him see her cry, she wouldn't allow it. "I'm going to miss you, you know that right?"
"Otter...I'm going to miss you too." Gavin snuggled his head against her again, he used her pet name that she told him she loathed but secretly cherished. He knew that just as much as she did. "It'll only be for a little while. Before you know it, we'll be back together. Just, you know, knock first when you get back. Siri and I might be in the middle of something." He stuck his tongue out at her.
Olivia jabbed him in the side with her elbow, a little playful acknowledgment that his joke was received. She leapt out of bed, touched the panel on her dresser drawer and pulled out a freshly pressed pair of pants as it slid silently on its automatic track. "Be that way. Maybe she can keep you company tonight." Another knowing wink marked her own reciprocal act of levity, as she wiggled her way into the jeans. "I shouldn't be too long today. Just some last minute checks on the EXO and make sure my stupidity didn't seep into any of the plans. Would you throw me that top right there? It should still be clean." She pointed at a green sweater strewn about on the floor.
Gavin flopped chest first from his spot on the bed, his arms outstretched to reach for the aforementioned top before he threw it to her. "How many times do I have to tell you? You are the smartest person I know. You should trust me, I'm a doctor too. Like somebody else I know." His voice took on just a tinge of irritation, over the fact of how many times he had to keep reminding her of how brilliant he thought she was.
"A Ph.D in animal biology and behavioral studies is a little different than being a surgeon." She slipped the top over her head, pulling her hair out behind her as she let it drape un-fussed with down the back. "Ok, I gotta run. Dinner tonight, right? No emergency calls, no nothing?"
He climbed out of bed and held her in a warm embrace, his hands wrapped around her waist. "You have my word, nothing shall come between you and me tonight. Unless you get a better proposition of course."
"No promises." Silence lingered between them for a good few minutes, nothing really had to be said. They both knew the hours before they were separated were limited. Olivia gave a slight cough, clearing her throat before she spoke again. "You know, not to get sappy or anything. But...I love you."
"I know," was all he said, teasing her with a quote from that absolutely ancient two dimensional movie he loved so much.
Giving him one last kiss as she shimmied out of his grasp, she made her way to the door, it opened with a satisfying swish. She turned to look at him one last time, gave a slight unconvincing wave and turned down the hallway, the beginnings of suppressed tears forming in her eyes.
