    I. Premise/Background

Tales of Altaria is a high-fantasy themed roleplay, combining swords, potions and magic with Pokémon. The story revolves around the country of Altaria, which has been split into separate, independent domains. A nation in disunity will face a series of threats that will require it to come together once more just to survive. Our characters will be the catalyst for Altaria, gathering resistance to this threat.

As one might piece together from above, Altaria used to be one unified kingdom. Several hundred years prior to the start of our story, the country as a whole used to worship the diety known as Arceus. However, the deity would eventually come to leave its people when they began to focus their worship on the smaller deities. This event in history is generally referred to as "The Abandonment." Upon Arceus' departure, it split the country of Altaria into five separate kingdoms: Cantaras, Lysos, Ethora, Abythia, and Aturia. While the people of each kingdom still identify themselves as "Altarians", each kingdom is very much independent and separate from the next.

The different kingdoms of Altaria have managed to maintain friendly negotiations with one another, and trade and land disputes have managed to have been kept down to a minimum over the years. However, it also seems that the kingdom is quite content in remaining separate from one another...

Our story will be beginning inside the port city of Alexshire, located on the south eastern coast of the kingdom of Cantaras. Alexshire happens to be a great hub of activity with a rather fluctuating population. Most travelers tend to stay there overnight before heading on their way to their next destination... if even that. Some might just pass through, grabbing a drink at the local tavern and then making their way on down the road. Others use the city to restock on supplies. Regardless of the reason, you and your Pokémon will be there. And it is in Alexshire that a great event will unfold to change your life forever. Will you grab the reigns and attempt to enter your name into history? Or will you falter, allowing fate to swallow you whole as you attempt to resist? Your actions hold the answer...

    II. Your Pokémon

A friend for life. Someone who will watch your back while you watch theirs. In this world, a human traveling with a Pokémon is not exactly foreign, but it is not a common and constant sight in Altaria either. In a sense, a human and a Pokémon are linked by a spiritual bond, one formed when the Pokémon is still in an egg. This ritual is carried out when a human is a child. They will find themselves escorted to a secluded area, where a grouping of eggs which have been "donated" by a community of Pokémon will be waiting. The bond is established if the egg that the human touches hatches upon contact. This is when the Pokémon and Human become 'Entwined', meaning their souls are now connected. The chances of a bond being formed is roughly one in one-hundred. This ritual was established a long time ago, as a sense to bridge the worlds of humans and Pokémon and as a sign of good faith. However, not all Pokémon uphold this ritual. There are still wild Pokémon that will do whatever it takes to survive in this world...

    III. Magic And Skills

In the world of Altaria, only the Entwined, those who are bound with a Pokémon, have the ability to cast spells. Thanks to the ancient contract between Humans and Pokémon, magic has flourished, and is just as common a sight as an Entwined. However, even though every single Entwined gets the ability to cast spells, only few manage to master this difficult skill.

There are many theories as to why and how the magic of this world works as it does, the most common theory being that a portion of the 'energy', 'mana' or simply 'magic' that resides within Pokémon and allows them to perform the feats that they do, is transferred via the link between a Pokémon and their human, enabling them to tap into the energy that they do. However, thanks to the ever-changing, adaptive nature of humans, they aren't limited to one or two elements, like their Pokémon.

The Entwined is able to perform amazing feats, such as casting fireballs, creating torrents of water, attack with psychic waves, heal themselves and their allies and even use more physical spells, such as hardening ones own body, allowing them to shoot energy from their blades and more. However, the Entwined doesn't unlock their magical potential until sometime along their puberty, meaning roughly four to six years after they encounter their Entwined partner at age ten. Afterwards, it's up to the Entwined how much they wish to practice their spellcasting. Whether they want to become extremely adept at it, mix it up with some martial arts or swordplay, or simply forego the magic and focus on other things.

There -are- restrictions, however. If your Pokémon, for instance, is easily damaged by a certain type, such as Fire, the connection to the source of magic is completely cut off, rendering the Entwined unable to cast spells of the element their partner is weak against.

However, if they cast a spell of the same type as their partner, the spell will be at its maximum potential (Depending on the Entwined's magical prowess, of course). Every spell-nature outside of strengths and weaknesses are considered to be at normal strength. If your Pokémon is, for instance, a dragon-type, and it's also weak to dragon-type attacks, the fact that it is, by nature, a dragon-type, will negate the effect of being unable to cast those types of spells.

Due to the way magic is very fickle and hard to pin down as to how strong a spell or a spellcaster is, we'll be using a system that's drawing inspiration from the Pokémon moves. This means that you, as an Entwined, will have a set amount of spells, which will grow and change during the RP. While your spells are not directly called the same as Pokémon moves, they will still have to be inspired by them. For instance, an Entwined who's just begun their spellcasting and wants to have a fire-based spell, they can pick something like Ember, which can count as a small torrent of flames or a light-level fireball, whereas a Fire Blast would be a much higher level version of the same. The Moves-To-Spells parallel we're drawing doesn't mean your character will shout out 'Ember!' every time they throw a fireball. They can of course draw parallels in-character, but this is mainly to aid everyone in more or less figuring out what sort of spells they have at hand.

In the sign-up, you can pick what spells you want your entwined to have, and you have relatively free reign over which moves you can pick. However, please be considerate and pick something appropriate for your character's skill level. Don't worry, as your character grows in power, they will/can gain access to more and better spells.

Aside from spells, characters will have a wide variety of other combat-methods to choose from. Hand-to-hand martial arts, swords, hammers, shields, bows, claws, or even using alchemical potions, only your imagination sets the limit. A character who doesn't use magic isn't necessarily weak, as they may have trained more with their weapon of choice.

    IV. Character Sign-Up Sheet

    Name: Your Character's Name

Age: How old is your character? In a world of fantasy, things can be quite flexible here. At least 16 is preferred, however.

    Gender: Male or Female

Hometown: The city and region your character is from. Be creative and come up with pretty much anywhere you like. Chances are we can work it into the story at some point if you wish to visit it during a sidequest or something of the sort. Keep in mind what information was displayed within the descriptions of the regions of Altaria though. Abythia is off-limits!

Appearance: What do they look like? Using a picture is fine, but I would like a written description as well!

Weapon/Fighting-Style: How does your character fight? What is their weapon of choice? Keep in mind this is fantasy, so modern weapons such as guns are not allowed.

Skills/Magic: What sort of skills and/or magic abilities does your character possess? There is a max of four spells allowed during the beginning of the story, but more slots may be available as the story continues. Also keep in mind that your character most likely won't be a full on warlock of amazing power right at the start of this RP, so be considerate in your choice of spells. Choosing spells does not mean you cannot have an actual weapon.

Personality: How does your character act and interact with others? What are their strengths and weaknesses?

Occupation: What does your character do? Are they a mercenary? Are they an alchemist? Perhaps a journalist? Be creative! There's no need to be something as simple as a farmer in a world of fantasy!

History: What has your character been doing up to this point? I'm not asking for a full on background here, as there is always story to be developed during the... well, story.

Pokémon Species: What species is your Pokémon partner? Keep in mind that they would be in their first form, so they can grow along with your own character! Also, as expected, no Legendaries are allowed. Also, no man-made Pokemon are allowed, this includes any mon mentioned in this article here: https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Artificial_Pokémon. Upon further review of the article and talking with my co-GMs, Golett is allowed!

Pokémon Name: What name does your partner go by?

Pokémon Personality: How do they act and interact with those around you!

Pokémon Moveset: The four moves your Pokemon possess at the start of the story. No TMs as obviously they do not exist yet. You may give them one egg move, however. Also, like humans the number of move slots will most likely increase as the story progresses. Also, keep in mind that they should not possess more over the top moves, such as Flamethrower and Earthquake right at the beginning.

RP Sample: Give me a sample of how you write! It can be from a previous RP post or something completely of your own design.

    V. Rules

    1. Be polite and respectful of your fellow RPers. I feel like this rule doesn't really need mentioning, but just in case...

    2. JPs are welcome! If you feel like a post between two or more RPers would work better beng worked on together, than by all means to do so. Etherpad is a great tool to help wih this objective!

    3. No god-modding or cheesing.

    4. Got an idea for a character-based storyline or something of the sort? Questions about how to handle something? Feel free to drop me, Sir Bastian, or Raikiri a line. We all worked together on piecing this RP together and would love to help out in anyway we can.

    5. Please try to post regularly. I know sometimes life issues come up where you may need to put the RP on the side. If this comes up, again let us know. If we go for about one week without any word, you will be given a warning. If we go two weeks, you will be removed from the RP to allow another interested player in joining.

    6. There will be a total of ten RPers allowed at a time for this RP. Counting the three of us, that means there will be seven open slots. Unlike most RPs on the board, I am not accepting reservations for slots or Pokémon. All sign-ups will be judged fairlly and will be accepted on how well we feel the character and such would fit into the world.

    7. This roleplay is rated M. That means blood will be spilt and occasional naughty language might be dropped and all of that sort. If that's not something you're fully comfortable with, you might want to consider that as a factor before signing up.

    8. We are NOT accepting reservations for this RP. You may post your SU as you progress it or all at once, but regardless we will be reviewing the sign-ups and making our decisions once we feel enough time as passed... Probably by next weekend or something like that. :D

Tales Of Altaria: A Pokémon Fantasy Adventure [M]
    Name: Rei Nightingale

    Age: 21

    Gender: Female

    Hometown: Rorial Village, Cantaras

Appearance: Rei Nightingale stands at a height of about 5'8". She keeps a somewhat slender body build, along with also being somewhat toned due to the fact of both her occupation and her upbringing. Rei's eyes are a deep shade of emerald-green which are accentuated by her fair skin complexion. Her aqua-tinted hair reaches down to the middle of her back, yet the young woman keeps it tied back into a rather functional side-ponytail. Her bangs neatly line the sides of her face.

Rei dresses in the typical garb of a female soldier of her third-class rank. This includes a pair of armored, heeled greaves which extened up to her thighs. She sports a matching pair of armored gauntlets which extend up into a pauldron that covers her shoulders. Rei wears a long, brown, sleeveless mantle which resembles something of a trench coat of sorts. She keeps her sword sheathed in a steel scabbard which she wears beneath her mantle and around her waist. A small, yellow ruffle at her neck which is decorated by the jeweled-symbol of the Cantarian Knights.

Weapons/Fighting-Style: As is customary for the Cantarian Knights, Rei is highly proficient in the use of a sword and shield. Her blade of choice is generally a saber or rapier, while protecting herself with a smaller shield she sports on her left forearm. Rei is not exactly the most masterful user of magic, and as a result she chooses to use techniques that increase her natural fighting ability.

Skills/Magic: Rei cannot harness any outright spell-bound abilities. Rather, her true strength comes from harnessing abilities to increase her physical potential and unleashing various, powerful, sword-based abilities. This means that in combat, she is very close-range oriented and often places herself in the front-lines, helping to lead the charge in combat.

    • Fury Cutter - Rei charges forward and delivers a quick slash with her sword. If she uses this again in succession, it will be more powerful than the previous time she performed the attack. However, the more Rei uses this technique, the more of her mana energy it will consume.

    • Quick Attack - Rei abandons all her defense and dashes forward to deliver a quick, almost unseen slash with her sword. This leaves her very vulnerable to counter attacks, however...

    • Withdrawl - Rei takes cover behind her shield, boosting her defense to keep her more protected in combat.

    • Sword Dance - Rei performs a small, dance-like movement with her blade. This technique helps to make her sword attacks stronger, but it leaves her open to attack while it is performed.

Personality: An honest, hardworking spirit that believes in always trying to do what's right. One could easily say that Rei Nightingale is an upstanding soldier who tries to set a good example for those who rank beneath her and civilians as a whole. She is always willing to go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that justice is properly served and she always takes care to walk the straight and narrow path of righteousness. Rei always ensures to speak to nobles and those who outrank her with the utmost respect.

Rei is not without her faults, however. It is easy to say that she is somewhat stiff in regards to her upstanding behavior. She absolutely will not tolerate any sort of action or behavior she sees as shady or downright sinful. Because of this, she can sometimes butt heads with those who may not have the same morals or standard of living that she does. Rei also lacks the true ability to really think for herself. She lives her life by her sword and law and does not question the orders, methods, or reasoning of those who are above her, seeing it as not being her place to do so.

    Occupation: Third Class Cantarian Knight

History: Born and raised in Rorial Village, Rei comes from less than noble origins. She lived with both her mother and father who made their meager living working on a small farm. The two always worked very hard to try and provide the best for their child, however the two were really never able to make ends meet. On top of that, Rei's mother was always quite frail and prone to illness. Eventually, one illness would come to claim the woman's life and Rei's father would come to abandon the farm and the girl, leaving her alone to wander the streets attempting to do anything she could to survive. At the time, she was only seven. After a few months of wandering around the young child had managed to reach Cantaras City. Rei would eventually be found by one Cameron Nightingale, a member of the Cantarian Knights who had obtained the rank of captain. The man, being one of the more upstanding and virtuous members of the knighthood, took pity upon the child and offered her food and shelter. Rei, who had quickly learned nothing was ever truly free during her time as a homeless, initially refused. She stated that she had no coin to pay the man properly for his hospitality. Cameron would not hear of it.

Although she had originally only intended to stay with Cameron for one night, Rei found her stay to be somewhat extended. She was welcomed into the man's home with open arms by not only him, but his wife, Lady Gwendoline Nightingale. Despite her shy and quiet nature, it did not take long for the lady of the house to quickly warm up to Rei's presence. A great deal of this factor may have had to do with the fact that Lady Nightingale was unable to carry any children of her own. That said, it came to no surprise of anyone who knew the family when they decided to adopt Rei as their official daughter. To say that Rei's mind was blown would have been an understatement. After spending so much time in a homeless state, the young girl was starting to believe that human kindness was nothing more than a fantasy.

With a loving home and parents once more, Rei soon found herself thrown headfirst into the more practical manners of life. She began to receive a proper education and made several friends her own age with family friends of the Nightingales. One odd quirk about the girl however, was her main interest in life. While other girls her age were more focused on becoming proper housewives and the like, Rei always found herself more fascinated with the life of the sword. Perhaps it had a bit to deal with the fact that her new father in life was a knight himself. Rei would always beg Cameron to tell her stories of his previous crusades. She even managed to somehow (much to her Gwendoline's dismay) convince the man to give her some private sword lessons on the side. Rei always paid the utmost attention to these lessons and would soon come to prove herself worthy of entering into knighthood by becoming a squire to her father.

Upon her twelfth birthday, Rei would be taken into the ritual of forming a bond with a Pokémon along with several other children from Cantaras City. Despite how well swordsmanship had flourished within the Nightingale family, they had never had anyone successfully perform this bond. Needless to say, they were not expecting any significant results when Rei would attempt this bond, despite the fact she was not blood-related to the family. Thankfully, Rei proved their suspicions wrong when she touched an egg which hatched to reveal a rather bubbly Squirtle.

Eventually, Rei would come to graduate as a full-fledged Cantarian Knight shortly after she turned 21 years old. With her Squirtle and refined swordsmanship, she began her career at the Third Class rank. Currently, Rei is heading towards Alexshire with a small entourage to perform a quick week's duty of guard.

Tales Of Altaria: A Pokémon Fantasy Adventure [M]
    Pokémon Species: Squirtle

    Pokémon Name: Sheldon

    Pokémon Gender: Male

Pokémon Personality: Sheldon is quite the contrast in terms of attitude compared to Rei. He is quite relaxed compared to the girl, with a rather simple attitude when it comes to most things in life. It seems that as far as he is concerned, all that truly needs to be worried about is food and a comfortable to place to sleep. That said, there is one thing that Sheldon takes very seriously and that would be Rei's safety. Despite his short stature, the Squirtle is very protective of the girl and would do anything in his power to keep her protected.

Moveset: Tackle, Water Gun, Withdrawl, Aqua Ring

We're not actually accepting reservations. You may post your sign-up when you're ready to post it and work on it at your own pace. We'll be accepting based on how we like the write-ups and such!

Tales Of Altaria: A Pokémon Fantasy Adventure [M]

    Willard Welm

    Elysian Islands, Ethora

    25 y.o | Male

Appearance: Willard Welm is rather short for his age, standing at an average height of five-foot-six. He is crowned by a snow-white hair that he preferred to be cut long. It usually covered one of his deep-green eyes if he has not it tied up. He has pointy ears and small mouth. His skin is not one you expect from someone hailing from the Elysian Islands, being almost pale. He has stringy arms and long limbs with prominent muscle cuts although not like those blacksmiths possess.

For clothing, he wore a blue beret outlined with a yellow band. He also preferred to wear a breezy white robe with blue stripes on the collar and the arms. The cape has brown stripes running down on it. He keeps it in place by a belt of the same hue as the blue stripes on his robe. Underneath he wore a simple blue clothing to go well with his robe. He also wears metal gloves and boots, those akin to a knight.

His wand is a simple fourteen-inch wand made of steel with an intricate wood casing. A blue orb is at the top of it while a blue diamond designed the bottom.

Weapon/Fighting-Style: Primarily, Willard prefers to stay at the front of the battle, but his skills only allow him to be at the back. Using his healing magic, he tries to keep the survivability of his comrades up and this saved them in more than one occasion. However, when provoked into a battle. Willard Welm will use his small pool of electric-type magic, drawing forth his power from his wand, electrocuting his enemies with small shocks, thus permitting him to retreat back once again.

He is not the close-range fighter like he wanted to be but he is proficient in the use of a mace or a flail if necessary. He also carries a shield which can protect him from everything but the strongest of blows.

Skills/Magic: His skill and magic set is meagre at best, especially on the damaging spectrum. His healing capabilities is enough only for minor bruises and increasing the adrenaline felt by the people around him. He still cannot use his healing to instantly rejuvenate people from very deep wounds. Damage-wise, his electric attacks could not outright kill a person but it is enough to make them flinch away, as if they are grounded.

~Heal Pulse: Willard emits a wide healing pulse throughout the field, healing anything that is within the radius. However, the effects only seem to increase the adrenaline rushing through everybody's blood and/or heal minor wounds and bruises.

~ Wide Guard: Willard plants his shield firmly in the ground and a pulse will emit from it, protecting his allies from harm for a short while.

~ Thundershock: Willard slams the ground with his wand, sending four electric currents into four directions, shocking anyone that comes near him. The electric current that flows seems to be blue, and it is very fast.

~ Metal Claw: Willard casts a spell, raising his attack, and crashing his mace onto an opponent, momentarily stunning him.

Personality: Unlike most Elysians who are described as peaceful and relaxed, Willard Welm is the opposite. Ever since his childhood, his life had been a constant honing of skills. First, it was the sword. Then the mace. Finally, he is on the road of honing his skills as the Electric Knight. He likes to challenge everybody to a battle, to test his and their mettle.

Willard is reckless and too free-spirited. While most of his antics were harmless, there were more than one occasion in which he was put into mortal harm because of his choices. He is too relaxed to know when harm is coming his way or if he is in immediate danger. He heads on blindly on all his choices. This reflects on his preferred battling style but his skills were not in sync in who he is.

Despite of this, Willard is a proven sword (or mace?) during a battle. He is a reliable source of protection and support because of his skills which he is not stingy on using.

Occupation: Willard Welm styles himself as a Paladin and calls himself the Electric Knight. He travels around the world, seeing everything there is to see.

History: Despite possessing the last name of Welm, signifying he was a candidate as ruler over their Great House, Willard was only a distant cousin of the current heir so it is very unlikely he would be inheriting the title. This proved great for Willard as he got the perks of being a Welm but almost none of the responsibilities expected of him. This gave him the freedom he needed to relax and just be him.

He was born to a second cousin of the Head of the Great House and a woman from the capital. Willard Welm is the eldest of three siblings. His younger brother and sister went off to their own adventures, not caring a thing regarding the family name. Willard would have easily done the same when he was younger but being the eldest offspring still entails some responsibilities to his parents. His father and mother took extra care of their eldest son, as Willard could remember from his childhood. He could be a spoiled brat as his parents could easily give him anything he wanted. However, he was not a child of want. There was only one dream he had and that was to be a great knight. He started training with wooden swords with his father but it was disheartening to discover that the young boy had no talent for the blade. They moved on to other weapons, testing Willard's proficiency in each one and found that he is at his peak when using either the mace or the flail. Now, neither the mace or a flail is a knight's weapon. It is either a sword or lance but since Willard could not properly use this kind of weapons, his dreams were crushed early.

But, life should move on. The optimistic child trained hard on using the weapons until it was clear that he could no longer be better. Even though he did not like it, Willard was forced to accept the fact that his life would be dictated by the mace. This all changed when he was taken to the ritual of trying to bond with a Pokemon. There were several Entwined in their family before Willard, although the number was still not large. It came as a surprise to him that the egg hatched for the young boy and a Magnemite came out, spitting out static electricity everywhere.

And we all know how Entwined could utilize magic. When Willard discovered he could have the ability like that, he decided to put down the mace and study the arcane. He read on the rules, how to harness it, where it came from. And when he was fourteen, he succeeded in creating his first thundershock, which Germaine his Magnemite promptly absorbed. To Willard, it was a great step. Under a tutelage of one of the Entwined in the region, and with his parents' permission of course, Willard pursued the career. He also discovered that he has the affinity to heal people and it is far more stronger than his electric-based attacks. This passive-type of battling is not really the type Willard, the boy who once dreamt of becoming a knight, preferred. However, he knew his place and he knew his skills. He would continue to hone it until he can hone it no more.

Nowadays, Willard Welm is in Alexshire, quite a ways from his hometown. He'd been travelling all over the place to learn and to know if there is still some way he could improve his electric-based spells.

    Pokémon Species:
Tales Of Altaria: A Pokémon Fantasy Adventure [M]

    Pokémon Name: Germaine

Pokémon Personality: Germaine is passive to say the least. The species are not known to be the best species to show emotion and Germain is not an exception. It seemed curious whenever he sees Willard training as he floats around the area, watching Willard punch through boards and things. That is all the extent of Germaine's personality. There were not a lot of things that interests the Pokemon. More often than not, Germaine is idly floating near Willard, looking with its one eye at nothing. It might show a little emotion, excitement maybe, as Willard executes his electric-type attacks. The Pokemon might absorb some of these on a good day but it was not often.

Around other people, around people who are not Willard, Germaine stays near Willard, not making any sound. At all.

    Pokémon Moveset:

    ~ Tackle
    ~ Supersonic
    ~ Thundershock
    ~ Sonicboom

  • Name: Cassandra "Cass" Alexandera

    Age: 25

    Gender: Female

    Hometown: Lios, Silver Plains, Ethora

    Appearance:
Cass is a character that manages to blend both beauty and grit into a seamless package with a bold appearance that is not easy to forget. Standing at about 5"7 (1.70 meters) with a thin yet athletic build, Cass has a capable figure who can hold her own in a fight with her surprising strength and agility. Cassandra's favorite quality is her curves, with a fairly large bust being almost far too noticeable. It becomes clear that Cass is bursting with confidence, wearing a perpetual smile.

Her short red hair is unkempt, with its strands at the mercy of the wind and her dark green eyes beaming through loose strands of red hair that brush across her delicate facial features. However the gentle nature of her youthful face is offset by a certain level of roughness, including cached on dirt, light bruising and a few cuts and scrapes. Cassandra's eyes are generally warm and inviting, are capable of charming others with relative ease. However, others easily notice the lust that her eyes carry. She has a thin nose and face, with rosy cheeks that compliment her hair. Her skin, however, is lightly tanned making the rosy cheeks harder to notice.

Cassandra's clothing is your typical mercenary garb, being practical and functional. A chain mail and black leather shirt covers much her torso, covering her pride and joy but protecting it from harm (unlike some female mercenaries she has met). With a popped and high collar and scaled design across the chest and arms, the long sleeved shirt appears rather elegant, or at least valuable to some. However, Cass often further adds to the protection with a steel armor set across her upper torso. With a steel pauldron on her right shoulder and another on her left that protects the whole of her, Cassandra is never without some degree of protection, influenced by her high risk, high reward fighting style. Her legs mirror such a design, with scaled, black leather pants protecting the whole with long, knee high leather boots completing the seamless protection. She further protects herself with a steel greaves, giving the boots an armor feel. Cassandra, admiring it once and stealing it the next day, wears a dark blue hooded cloak, with white tribal designs to add a wave of mysteriousness and some protection from the helmets. She also wears a brown leather belt with numerous pouches, which also home to her pair of knives, housed around her lower back. A leather baldric is thrown across her left shoulder and is wear her Great Sword "Red Snow" calls home.

    Reference picture for clothing (exclusively)
    Spoiler:

Cassandra sports a new extra accessories. Notably, she wears a single necklace with a golden religious symbol (symbolizing the waves of Kyogre) hanging from a black leather strap. Cass has invested in some tattoos, with a black tribal symbols on her left shoulder and lower back. She is also often seen with a short, worn red scarf matching her fiery hair.

Weapon/Fighting-Style: As mentioned above, Cassandra prefers to fight with her Two Handed Great Sword (based off the real life German Zeihander, literally meaning Two Hander), that she affectionally calls "Red Snow." Her skill level with the blade is exceptional and she has enough raw strength to wield the sword with one hand for brief bursts of time. She is also somewhat skilled with her pair of knives and is capable using most ranged weapons, but due to her preference for melee combat, she is not nearly as proficient.

    Spoiler:

    Skills/Magic:
Cassandra's magic abilities have developed to primarily enhance her physical capabilities, making her a deadly fighter. While she has also developed and has a keen eye for offensive potential, she tends to limit such uses to raw bursts and instead uses what can be called a "Stack" based magical output that allows her to bolster her own abilities to further overwhelm her opponents. Currently, she has about three stacks of magical buffs she can use at any given time, however she must be wary of how she spreads them out as each spell has a different drain on her body. While outlined more below, in general she can spread her stacks about her 3 respective buffs but only in given combinations. For example, Iron Defense must be used separately as its buff includes covering her whole body in defense where as Sword Dance and Agility are honed in on her sword and legs respectively. And while Cassandra can deactivate a mode at will, the stack does not recharge immediately. For example, Cass can be deactivate Iron Defense to use Agility, but following that sequence will only have one more stack to use on another spell. Stacks, instead, recharge after some rest; with longer rests required to regain more stacks.

Sword Dance: Cass brandishes her blade, showing her talent. As she does this, the Great Sword seems to glows with power as she increases the strength of her attacks. This ability can be stacked by channeling more power into the sword. This ability can be used in conjunction with Agility, but not Iron Defense. Furthermore, this spell is the easiest to channel magic into, making her preference when channeling more than one buff into.

Iron Defense: Cassandra's armor, much like her sword, appears to glow as she tightens up her body. In addition, when the move is active, her skin seems to strengthen with a slight glint to it, as if it is armored. It must noted that she must active this body and continuously channel her power into armor and body to maintain the defense. She cannot use Iron Defense while using Agility or Sword Dance. As it can be inferred, this spell has the most significant drain on her body.

Agility: Doing little more than bounce around, Cass' body lightens boosting her speed temporarily. While Agility can be stacked, each stack drains more of stamina, making this mode strenuous. While this can be used in conjunction with Sword Dance, it cannot be used with Iron Defense due to the strain it would put on her body. Agility is the middle ground of the abilities in terms of magical drain, sapping stamina progressively with each stack. As a result, Cass favors only channeling one Stack in most cases.

Bullet Punch: Using her left arm exclusively, Cassandra bolts forward with a steel ridden fist at high speeds, using a burst magical power to increase the intensity of the attack.

Personality: Cass is not what you would call a prim and proper lady, being rough and rugged as your typical mercenary having made something of a name for herself due to her outrageous behavior. Cass is abrasive, immature, reckless, and vulgar reveling in simple pleasures and being generally hard to appreciate. This is likely a result of her overwhelming direct and honest nature as she is one to get to the point rather than tip toe around the issue, which in conjunction with her insensitivity makes Cass an unsympathetic and detached individual to say the least. Cass can be playful, however, often fooling around with others with her sarcasm and occasionally innocent humor. She does not take things seriously very often, looking at life as if it were a joke in itself.

She is an individualist, treasuring her own freedom above everything else and working for her own self interests, whatever they may be. Cass despises organized governments, strict traditions, and authority but does not actively pursue change. Instead she prefers watch everything unfold. She follows her whims and impulses doing whatever she feels like at the moment with little hesitation, valuing her own happiness above everything else. Therefore, Cass is not motivated by a desire to do good or evil and will only align herself with either if it serves her interests in some way. In this regard, Cass can take it a bit too far becoming overwhelmingly greedy and self interested, often asking "how does this benefit me?" when posed with any request.

Cass is indulgent, engaging in any activity she deems fun. Gambling, alcohol and aggressive flirting (she isn't picky by the way) are only the beginning for her. She can be often found at bars or taverns drinking to pass the time and then leaving without paying her tab. Cass takes any opportunity she can to break the law or cause, out of habit and simple fun. This goes in accordance with the fact that Cass has very flexible morals, and is not above committing questionable acts especially if coin is thrown into the equation. In fact, Cass can take things took far, reflecting near psychopathic tendencies. Being terribly volatile and easy to provoke, Cass loves to fight and get dirty. In combat, Cass gets caught up in the moment, often resulting in a poor fate for her opponent.

Occupation: Traveling Mercenary and Bounty Hunter willing to take any job for the right price.

    History:
Cassandra was born into your typical upper middle class family in southern Ethora with an ambitious father and a mild mannered mother, it became quite apparent Cassandra was going to be a tool for her father to advance up the social ladder of Ethorian society. She was expected to wear pretty dresses, learn proper manners and show courtesy to all noble lords and ladies while her father continued to bolster his increasing reputation as a merchant and trader. It was a flawless plan on his part, with only problem: Cassandra herself. She despised her father and his dreams as she yearned for freedom, often attempting to foil his plans whenever possible. Her mother did her best to calm Cassandra, saying it was for "her own good" but such sentiments fell on deaf ears.

Fortunately, Cassandra was not completely alone in her childhood as like many of the wealthy nobles in the land of Ethora who observe such traditions, Cassandra was bonded to a Pokemon in her youth. Touching the egg and linked, Cassandra found to be linked to a beautiful Absol. She named the Pokemon "Snow" after its beautiful fur and the two became separable, with Snow's arrogance and confidence spurning the young woman in her adolescence.

Cassandra's father planned for an arranged marriage to a member of a noble house in northern Ethora, believing the man could control the passionate Cassandra. Sadly, the man never had the chance as Cassandra ran away with Snow several weeks prior to the engagement. At the age of 17, Cassandra declared herself as "Cass" with the hopes of forging her own destiny and experiencing the freedom she so desperately desired. However, Cass stepped into a bigger world than she expected, quickly realizing that one does not get far without gold. Refusing to subjecting herself to working the streets in the city of Lios, Cass quickly left the southern regions of Ethora and set herself in the region of Idir where she entered a military academy to learn how to use a blade, bringing Snow alone as her companion and training partner, taking full advantage of the link they shared. Women rarely attended military academies, making her something of a novelty yet she proved to be an able student. However, Cass grew bored quickly of lessons and soon left the academy after stealing a few weapons and coin, deciding to travel the world in search of adventure and wealth.

During her journeys around the world, Cassandra met a fellow wanderer Terrin in the land of Cantaras. Terrin, in a scuffle with some disgruntled shopkeepers. Terrin revealed his magical abilities, of which caught the attention of the experienced mercenary. Interested in the young man's attention, Cassandra decided to take the boy under her wing, acting as something of a mentor training the man in the ways of combat and the mercenary life. Terrin provided good company for the woman and for the better part of the year, the two became a well renowned mercenary duo in Cantaras.

    Pokémon Species: Absol

    Pokémon Name: Snow

Pokémon Personality: Snow is in many ways what Cass would have been had the mercenary's spunk have been molded into that of a noble. Snow has much of the aloofness and brashness of her human counterpart, but tempered with an air of arrogance. Snow is cold, proper and regal, dispatching others with cold disdain if she deems them unworthy to be in her presence. Snow is slow to make any friends, only trust the few that Cass permits in her inner circle alone, and even then is hesitant to offer any degree of friendship to them. Snow is also very protective over Cassandra, displaying affection to her alone and is rarely allowing the young woman out of her sight. Snow does, however, have a playful side. Snow enjoys pranks and good humor, and revels in the chaos that Cassandra involves herself in (whether intentional or not). She has an eye for battle, but is quick to snap herself out of a fervor, unlike her master. In general, Snow can be described as a tempered Cassandra, having the best of her qualities spliced with some nobility.

  • To clarify, is Magnemite an artificial Pokemon? It isn't listed on the page but I am not quite entirely sure if he is allowed. I'm planning on making an Electric Knight somehow type of character and Magnemite fits the bill as the Pokemon I want.

Magnemite works because contrary to its looks, it is not a man-made Pokemon. So, to answer your question, yes Magnemite works.

  • There we go, all done!

    Name: Terrin Gant

    Age: 22

    Gender: Male

Hometown: Tabath, a port village on the eastern coast of Aturia, directly to the east of Harat, which is most often where people who have business in Harat travel through.

    Appearance:
    Spoiler:

Terrin, for all purposes, has the same build as any twenty year old boy would have. He's not overly strong, but more lithe and agile. He has dark-blue, almost black hair which is swept down in front of his right eye as well as pulled into a tail, which is often draped over his shoulder so it doesn't flop around behind him.

He has a somewhat delicate-looking face with soft features and soft, red-hued eyes. His clothes consist of something easy to maneuver in, meaning a pair of sleek boots, a set of brownish-black pants, a white linen shirt with a longer, black shirt on top, which has sleeves down to his elbows, and the hem of it reaching a little below his waist loosely, held in place with a belt.

In said belt, he carries a shortsword and a small hunting knife, and over his back is a quiver of arrows along with a dark-brown bow with a green cloth wrapped around the middle of it. Around his neck is a silvery pendant in the shape of a lightning bolt, usually tucked away into his shirt.

Weapon/Fighting-Style: Terrin wields a bow and his magic fairly proficiently, often combining his arrows with his magic for powerful ranged attacks. He also has a shortsword, but he's never been all that good with close-range fighting, and could be bested by a very competent fighter.

    Skills/Magic:

    • Absorb. Terrin has to physically touch his opponent in order to drain their energy.

    • Thunder Shock. Usually used when fired along with an arrow, he can also simply shoot a small bolt of electricity at his enemy.

    • Drill Run. Has to be used with an arrow or his sword/dagger. Terrin infuses his attack with his magic and enables it to punch through a spell-powered defense such as Harden, Iron Defense, etc. If the user of the defensive spell is extremely adept at magic, the spell might fail.

    • Teleport. If Terrin gets in a sticky situation, he can use this spell to get away. The further he teleports, the more energy it drains from him.

Personality: Terrin is extremely wary of people. He has little to no trust for those he hasn't been around for a while, and will always keep an arrow half-pointed at their back, just in case they suddenly turn on him and his partner. He's a realist and will always be skeptical when someone's plan is to 'hope for the best'.

He loves winning and hates losing. If he succeeds in something, he makes sure that those around him knows it, and will grow in confidence and possibly even brashness. However, if he fails at something, it doesn't necessarily make him want to give up. In fact, most of the times, it makes him want to keep trying –until- he succeeds, within reason. For example, he wouldn't take on someone obviously more skilled than himself, unless he was dead-sure that he could outmaneuver them in one way or another.

    Occupation: Traveller, mercenary-in-training.

    History:
    Spoiler:

    Pokémon Species: Snivy

    Pokémon Name: Selina

Pokémon Personality: Selina cares for nothing as much as she does Terrin. She's always been very overprotective of him, and will do anything to keep him safe. Due to this, she rarely has eyes for anything else, such as making friends or caring much for the overall objective. If Terrin is in danger, there's a good chance she will abandon any other plans they might've made in favor of protecting him. She can seem a little snooty, or reserved at first, but if there's no danger to be found, she enjoys resting (Preferably in the sun), and it's at this point she becomes alot more friendly and approachable.

Pokémon Moveset: Glare, Vine Whip, Leaf Tornado, Growth.

RP Sample: *Flashes special GM pass*

    Name: Cayanthanos "Caya" ???????

    Age: 17

    Gender: Male

Hometown: Born in Kakkara, Lysos, he considers his hometown the whole desert.

Appearance: His hair is very short and dark. He also has a very short beard. He has several scars all over his body from the countless battles that he's been in. He is about 5'11 175lbs. He is stronger than he looks being very skinny because of the desert heat and the exercise he receives.

His clothes are very rugged, and he walks around with a stench. He doesn't have enough water in the desert to wash his clothing or himself, so you get the point.

He wears a very thin, long sleeve shirt. He wears pants that cut a little short of his ankles. He has a small satchel and a case on his back for his dual blades. He owns a small head hood that he only wears occasionally.
    Spoiler:

Weapon/Fighting-Style: An aggressive straight forward approach. Chooses to use dual blades that can come together to form a long sword. Quick and fearless, never lets a fighting mistake go unpunished in battle. He will come up with abstract plans if the situation calls for it. He does try to create the strongest challenge for himself as possible.

    Skills/Magic:

Roar: With incredible force, a loud fierce scream that can knock back foes and even damage their senses temporarily or even permanently. Can knock objects back or the vibrations can even knock things off shelves and out of bushes and trees.

Burn: He can heat up his skin and if you're within a few feet you can get burned. It is very useful to scare enemies or to even melt objects in the way.

Searing shot: Sends out small flames similar to Ember. Mostly generated through Caya's mouth he can also conjure smaller flames from his hands. Very useful to send a flame a rather long distance or to knock something out of the sky.

Bite: The most dangerous and lethal move in Cayanthanos's arsenal. It is extremely strong and can rip the flesh off a Tyranitar. But, if used Cayanthanos may fall out of control making him dangerous to everyone.

Personality: Cayanthanos is the strong silent type. Doesn't like to interact with others unless he has to. He is very forgetful and struggles to see past the obvious. Though, he is very smart and happens to be very nice. His brains help his battle sense and help keep him keen in battle and stay ahead. Often coming up with plans that no other would think of. He is very revenge driven though. If you poke the bear, the bear will poke back.

The desert has made him very tough. Sharpening many of his senses and making him very knowledgeable in the survival field. This makes him a little arrogant and he hates to have his authority challenged. If you gain his respect, he will listen to you as far as knowledge goes. If you mean anything to him, he will always have your back.

Occupation: He's a Wild Trainer. He goes and finds wild Pokemon that are unable to defend themselves and trains them to protect themselves. He will also search for strong Pokemon that can't control themselves and help them control their strength. These Pokemon often travel with him until they can find a good place to stay.

This is a job he has with no reward other than self pride. He will often stop anybody doing bad acts and try to help their Pokemon. He understands that it isn't the Pokemon's fault and so he helps them. He has no respect for anybody abusing their power while doing his job.

    History
    Spoiler:

    Pokémon Species: Growlithe

    Pokémon Name: Viton

Pokémon Personality: A very happy Pokemon, differing from that personality of it's partner, it understands Caya unlike everyone else. In battle, it has an intense approach with untouchable composure. It is not very trusting of people but is very happy once it gets to know you. It does adopt some traits of Caya though.

    Pokémon Moveset:

Growl: What is a little growl gonna do? If you ever thought that you better rethink. This move is scary and loud. It has the ability to travel many miles in all directions. It can damage your ears if you aren't used to it. This can be useful for long distance communication.

Bite: A move that does not work if Viton cannot fit it's jaw around a part of the target. However, should it work, this move can cause major damage or pain on the opponent. It can be used to break open tough objects.

Ember: It's Vitons main attack. Able to be very focused or cause some more widespread damage. He can use it in a pinch and it helps him get out of tough spots. It can also be very useful outside of battle and create a smaller flame that will help with small jobs.

Tackle: It well... Tackles the opponent. It can be used to possibly move a large boulder, knock something out of a tree, or anything of the sort. This is Viton's main physical attack that he uses quite often.

    Name: Matthew (No Surname)

    Age: 27

    Gender: Male

    Hometown: Bergen, Bayren

    Appearance:

Tales Of Altaria: A Pokémon Fantasy Adventure [M]

Weapon/Fighting-Style: Matthew is not a standard fighter, so he doesn't generally use and weapons.

Skills/Magic: Being a non-combatant, Matthew prefers to use his magic and skills in his profession rather than in actual fighting. Therefore most of his skills are used to save his skin should he ever unfortunately be drawn into a fight, or make a quick escape if anything in his profession should ever go wrong.

Attract: Used as a variation of the Pokemon move, Matthew must make contact with the target in order for this ability to work. It must also be on the opposite gender. Matthew releases a small wave of mana which he releases from his hands onto the target. Though the move will not cause the target to become outright infatuated with Matthew, it will cause them to less prone to attack him (in a combat situation) or more prone to listen/agree with him in conversation or in business. However more potent he tries to make the ability, the more likely they are to become infatuated (and the more mana he will use).

Thunder Wave: Matthew concentrates his mana to his hands and connects the tips of his fingers into a triangle shape. He releases a wave of electrical energy which, while not damaging, can cause the target to become temporarily paralyzed.

Smokescreen: Used for getaways, Matthew forms a ball of smoke with his mana and releases it onto the ground, causing a thick smoke to flow from it. The more mana he uses for it, the thicker the smoke becomes.

Detect: Causes Matthew to temporarily become hyper-sensitive in order to make the movements of others slow around him, while also making him more prone to evasion and predicting of the moves of others, whether they be attacks or conversational tendencies. He can used this once effectively, but consecutive usage will be less effective and would cost more energy.

    Personality:

"Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Don't teach a man to fish, that wouldn't profitable. Ask him to sign up for lessons, each of which cost ten silver pieces each, and then milk the heck out of them! In fact... don't give a man a fish either. Sell it to him at a super-inflated price."

When people first encounter Matthew, he comes off as a charming, personable, and pleasant to talk to. He seems friendly and easy-going enough to become a friend. In social gatherings and occurrences with multiple people, he would be one of the first to break the ice and begin a conversation. When he converses with someone, he tends to ask a lot of questions, smile a lot, and seem genuinely interested in what the other person has to say. He often compliments the other people in the conversation as well. Matthew has a semi- eloquent way of speaking, the result of his self-taught dialect intended for the middle and upper classes. However, his low-born birth can occasionally seep into the conversation. Yet for all intents and purposes, he seems like a real likable fellow.

But that is all just an elaborate ruse. The more you spend around Matthew and get to know him, the more you will see what kind of man he really is. In reality, Matthew is a sleazy, self-centered, and greedy individual. Profit and personal gain is what drives him, and he will do whatever he can possible to turn a profit, without much care for who he steps on or hurts in the process. While he is generally social, he has a tact for being charming and personable often as a means to and end, that end being to sell something, or to barter for something. Generally, to get something out of the situation that he wants. Matthew is very discreet in how he portrays his true intentions while there is still a profit to be gained, as he wants to 'milk' out as much as he can out of a situation before it dries out. The only thing he cares about as much as profit is himself. He would rarely risk his own skin for another's if there is no value in doing so. While he does have many acquaintances, and even some friends across the lands, there are very few, if any, he would be willing to risk his life for.

    Occupation: Traveling Merchant

    History:

Matthew was born in a lower class home to a family in the mining business in the small town of Bergen, Bayren in Ethora. Bergen is particularly unremarkable, housing nothing noteworthy or of value, save for the unofficial reputation of their town being sacked by bandits, burned to the ground and rebuilt more than any other town west of Bludrock. The people of Bergen are quite proud of that heritage, and of their general stubbornness. However, few other cities are aware of that title, or the town of Bergen itself. Few outside of Bergen generally acknowledge that they are from there, including Matthew, who from a fairly early age wanted nothing more than to leave his home behind.

From an early age, he knew he didn't fit in with other children his age or even adults. While others were joining in on family businesses trying to keep their own people afloat by working in the harsh mines, Matthew was a frail child who couldn't stand the fumes or the hot temperatures. He preferred instead to think of intricate and elaborate excuses to specifically get out of doing such activities, knowing full well that he wouldn't be able to contribute should he do so to begin with. Surprisingly, even from a fairly early age, he was rather successful in talking his way out of working. It became a regular fixture to try and talk his way out of working. More often than not, he was fairly successful, which led Matthew to acknowledge that he had a knack for talking to people, and more specifically, convincing them. Matthew instead would spend his time teaching himself to read and write, a task which proved quite difficult as many in the area weren't literate. He also read books about conversation and nobility, which he tried to adapt into his own dialect.

It came as quite a surprise to him when he was linked to a Chimchar, which he named Francis, after a noble from one of his stories. The noble was upbeat and quite cheery, just as the Chimchar was. From then on, getting out of doing work was much easier as he could attest it to needing time to adapt to the new lifestyle with Francis. Other times, he would have Francis help with the mining, which the Chimchar actually seemed to enjoy as he apparently liked to show off his strength.

However, life in Bergen had slowly begun to bore Matthew. But he also knew he couldn't just run and leave town without a good reason. So, he decided to come up with an elaborate ruse in order to leave forever. He decided out of the blue to volunteer and help in the mines, much to his family's surprise. What they didn't know was that Matthew had spent the night before rigging the mine in that area to collapse and fall, with the presumption that it fell on top of him. His family, and the entire town, believed that Matthew died that day with Francis, while in reality the sketchy young man bartered his way to passage out of Bayren and into the Golden Islands. From there, he made his way as a traveling merchant, bartering for supplies, and using trickery, deceit, scams and anything else he could in order to become successful and move from place to place. This included an incident with a young knight-in-training named Rei a Ponyta who was, unfortunately, already dead, and trading a fisherman his brand-new trading ship for a patch of fertile land located on an island off the coast of Cantaras that didn't exist. There were dozens more of these scams, all being largely successful because of his generally personable nature.

Matthew finds himself in Alexshire, hoping he could seek out an opportunity to make a profit.

    Pokémon Species: Chimchar

    Pokémon Name: Francis

Pokémon Personality: Francis is a bundle of energy, always seeking a good time. He enjoys exercising and showing off his strength, especially through lifting heavy objects. He has adapted Matthew's likeness for trickery, though to a lesser extent. He will often play a part in Matthew's plans. He will often follow Matthew's lead on how to interact with another person, whether its to show caution and restraint with people that seem dangerous or are not to be trust, or to be fun and friendly to those Matthew is trying to swindle. Francis feeds off of positive energy, and is often in a more excitable mood when others are too. His way he usually communicates with Matthew is with hand signs and signals.

Pokémon Moveset: Leer, Taunt, Fury Swipes, Ember

RP Sample: Taken from latest post in Pokemon Odyssey: https://www.pokecommunity.com/showpost.php?p=8599490&postcount=171

  • Hey Varys, I just wanted to let you know that even though some moves like Protect or Fury Attack seem like they wouldn't be spells and instead be more like an actual move. Like for instance, Protect could make your shield even stronger than it already is to protect from a heavy or piercing attack that would've otherwise destroyed it. Same thing with Fury Attack. Despite them being physical or defensive moves, they still do count as spells.

I just wanted to make sure everyone knows this, and you can do with it what you want :)

  • Oops. Sorry. Must have thought spells=skills.

I think I'll edit my spells though. Protect => Wide Guard, preventing any ally from further damage for a few seconds and Fury Attack => Metal Claw, having his mace deal a really devastating blow while increasing the Willard's damage. Is this okay?

    · S I G N U P

    Name: Fiore Agnès

    Age: 18

    Gender: Female

Hometown: A smaller town in Lysos by the name of Myr, not far to the northeast of Kakkara.

    Appearance:
    Spoiler:

Weapon/Fighting-Style: Fiore is not an extremely skilled fighter, and prefers to stay out of harm's way by way of manipulation. Her way of fighting is more oriented at speed than power. Her primary weapon is her Honedge that she carries on her back, which, actually being a Pokémon, allows her to attack in ways that would likely not be possible using a regular sword. To not be completely vulnerable if her Honedge would be wiped out in some way, she also has a dagger hidden under her clothing, just in case.

Skills/Magic: Fiore posesses strong magical power, but does not know to apply herself very well. As a result, her magic use may vary in intensity each time she uses it.
    • Quick Attack: allows Fiore to move at 1.5x the speed she would normally move at, to avoid an enemy attack in time as well as counter. Lasts for no more than 2 seconds at present.
    • Sand Attack: By using the air, Fiore has the power to whip up sand or dust to temporarily blind opponents.
    • Night Shade: Allows the user to become intangible for a few seconds.

Personality: Fiore may appear to others as being a rather absent-minded person. She is silent, and generally doesn't speak unless directly addressed. While she does have a tendency to zone out when by herself, her silence in company of others is certainly not because of flyaway thoughts. She is a good listener, and quite intelligent. When she does speak, it is generally in a soft voice. Fiore dislikes unnecessary conflict, and as such will normally not voice her disagreement in minor situations - though it may be readable from her face.

Partially because of her past, Fiore is very distrusting. She refuses to rely on others for help - but this is also because she doesn't know how to ask for things very well. To her, working with others is more effort than it's worth, and making friends is a waste of time because relationships don't last anyway. Sooner or later betrayal will follow. As a result, Fiore is very dependent on Alphonse, her Honedge. He is her only partner, and the only one with whom she feels she can safely share her feelings. This dependency causes her to panic whenever he is not with her.

    Occupation: Traveller

History: Fiore was raised in Myr, by an elderly man she would come to know as 'Grandpa'. He lived in the village, and found her as a baby in the desert one day, wrapped in a cloth, clutching a sword. When he approached the child, the sword suddenly rose and levitated in the air, unsheathing itself. Terrified, the man threw up his hands and was about to run - when the baby started crying. The Honedge immediately sheathed itself, and picked her up with its sash to rock her. The man looked upon them with pity and offered the Pokémon to take the child, to which it reluctantly agreed. Fiore, as she would be known from then on, was severely dehydrated, and would likely not have survived much longer in the desert.

Fiore grew up to be a healthy and cheerful girl. Her blonde hair and light skin was a rarity in the Lysos town, and as a result she became famous in the village as 'Ho-Oh's gift'. Luckily it became more of a nickname for her than anything else, and it did not influence her upbringing much. She was still a member of the Myr community - albeit a little different from everyone else.

This continued until Fiore reached the age of 15. That was the year disaster struck. The town of Myr was dependent on a single large field of crops for nourishment of its people. Because of the dry climate, the crops were very susceptible to any type of disturbance to begin with, but this was worse: a fire started that destroyed a large portion of the valuable crops. This had never occurred before, and was subsequently announced as divine retribution by the town's high priest. The town was to go into a time of famine, and there was but one solution: a sacrifice to the great Ho-Oh. All eyes were immediately on Fiore. As Ho-Oh's Gift, and the only 'outsider' in the village, it would be most sensical to offer her to return to the great deity.

Soon, a mob showed up at Grandpa's house to capture the girl. The old man had no chance of resistance, and Fiore was dragged along to the city center, where a large pile of wood and a stake had been set up. Fiore was blindfolded and bound to the post, all the while screaming for her Grandpa.
The crowd started chanting. Burn her, Return her, Ho-Oh will bless us. A man completely clad in black came up to the stake, carrying a torch. The chanting's volume increased as he approached, and so did Fiore's fear. But then, as he was to light the fire, Fiore screamed. ''ALPHONSE!''
A large blade flew through the air and stabbed the executioner in the chest. The crowd went completely silent in less than a second as he fell to the ground. As they were looking who had thrown the sword from such a distance, the unthinkable happened: the sword removed itself from its victim, and floated over to Fiore's side, dripping with blood, and released her. She removed her blindfold herself, and was horrified by the scene that had played out in front of her. People were running everywhere, away from the haunted sword that had protected the girl. Fiore herself fell to her knees and started crying as the sword wrapped its blue sash around her shoulders.

Fiore and Alphonse left the village immediately, without even bidding her Grandpa farewell. She didn't want to see him; the entire community had betrayed her, and Fiore knew that the old man couldn't do anything but agree with the town's high priest if he didn't want to be punished severely himself. She couldn't put him in danger by showing up to his house - but most of all, she didn't want to watch him succumb to them and admit that she would, indeed, have to die.
From that day on, Fiore and Alphonse lived as travellers.

    Pokémon Species:
Tales Of Altaria: A Pokémon Fantasy Adventure [M]

    Pokémon Name: Alphonse

Pokémon Personality: Alphonse is very similar to Fiore in that he's a strong-and-silent type as well. He often acts almost as a father figure towards Fiore, and they understand each other to such a degree that no words (and barely any movements) are necessary for them to communicate. He is protective of her, and will do anything in his power to keep her out of harm's way.
Normally, Alphonse pretends to be a regular sword on Fiore's back. He is aloof to regular situations, and lets her do the talking. He has a short fuse when it comes to Fiore, however, and doesn't hesitate to prod her in the back whenever he believes something is wrong.

Pokémon Moveset: Swords Dance, Fury Cutter, Pursuit, Shadow Sneak

  • Oops. Sorry. Must have thought spells=skills.

I think I'll edit my spells though. Protect => Wide Guard, preventing any ally from further damage for a few seconds and Fury Attack => Metal Claw, having his mace deal a really devastating blow while increasing the Willard's damage. Is this okay?

Sounds pretty good, yeah! So with Wide Guard, he could create a sort of forcefield around an ally for as long as he'd keep the spell active (Which would also drain his energy/mana quicker), and Metal Claw, he simply pours a portion of his mana into adding more force behind the mace, which would be like a temporary damaging buff!

If anyone has any questions or wants help with fleshing out their spells, let me, Raikiri or Chie know :)

  • Alright, here's my SU. I've been working on this for almost two days.

    Name: Emmet Copperstone

    Age: 24

    Gender: Male

    Hometown: Okriana, Lysos

Appearance: Short and slender, Emmet stands about 4' 10". He is thin, but keeps himself fit by running, giving him a solid, wiry build. His eyes are bright blue, almost violet in some light, making them stand out strikingly against his darkly tanned skin. He wears his short, dark brown hair swept back, keeping it out of his face.

Emmet's clothing is a mix of stylish fashion and lightweight protection. He wears a long-sleeved shirt made of white linen, with a sapphire blue blazer. His pants are a light grey linen, with a black leather belt, which holds several brown belt pouches. His thigh high boots and fingerless gloves are made of black leather.

Topping off his ensemble is a wide-brimmed hat made of red silk, with a cape of identical material hanging to his knees, fastened at his throat with a ruby brooch. The silk is alchemically treated to repel dust and dirt, and stains wash out with just water and elbow grease.

Weapon/Fighting-Style: Emmet is hardly trained for combat, but has learned the basics of self-defense. He carries a five foot long staff, carved with intricate runes that glow blue when he casts spells. A smaller rod, about eighteen inches long, can be used as a club in times of desperation. But he finds such methods barbaric, and is much more competent with his magic.

Skills/Magic: Emmet has been studying magic since he was five, even though he couldn't cast any spells until he was sixteen. He specializes in conjuring and moving around energy, and can use small scale versions of his spells almost effortlessly. In a fight, his full strength spells are more tiring, and he prefers to stay in the back and fight from a distance.

Gust - With a wave of his hand or staff, Emmet can create a gust of wind. The spell can be used to extinguish candles from across a room, clear away dust and sand from a floor, or scatter papers and objects from a table. In combat, Emmet can conjure blasts of wind strong enough to knock a man over, or a miniature cyclone to tear into foes with gale force winds.

Barrier - A shimmering dome of force protects Emmet from physical harm. His weaker version merely slows incoming objects, allowing him to catch or dodge if they are slow enough. His full strength version focuses the dome around him, forming armor that turns lethal blows into merely painful ones.

Water Gun - Emmet releases a torrent of water from his hand or staff. The strength of the stream ranges from a weak faucet to a strong fire hose. The spell can be held to produce a continuous stream, but this steadily saps Emmet's energy.

Teleport - Emmet snaps his fingers, instantly moving to a new location. This spell creates the largest drain on his reserves, and is easier if he limits it to short range jumps within line of sight.

Personality: Full of confidence and bursting with energy, some may call Emmet an arrogant blowhard, but he considers himself a passionate performer. He is loud, boastful, and a little self-centered, but he is never rude or insulting to others. He may brag about his abilities, but he knows there are others who are better than him, and that his own skills are rather limited. In his mind, it's important to enjoy what you do, and do the best job at it you can, rather than complain about what could have been.

For all his boasting, he honestly just wants to make people's lives better. Whether it's by putting on a show to entertain people, or using his skills and abilities to genuinely help people. He has a hard time refusing people, and tends to be gullible. He'll put other's needs ahead of his own, but will always push for the best deal he can get.

    Occupation: Magician

History: Okriana is a small town on the West side of Lysos, built on top of an old cave system. People gather there in large groups, forming extended families. Emmet comes from one such family, and was the youngest of five children. He lived with his three brothers, one sister, two parents, two aunts, one uncle, and one grandfather. The kids stayed at home with their grandfather while the adults worked at their jobs as merchants, miners, and farmers. Emmet was always close to his grandfather, who told him stories of his adventuring days, and showed him magic tricks to amuse him. Emmet wanted to know how his grandfather did such wondrous things, and began learning.

Sadly, the old man died when Emmet was nine. His mother tried to teach him how to run a market stall, but Emmet grew bored too easily. He wanted to go out and see the world like his grandfather, but the closest he got was working the mines with his uncle, but iy was hard work, and dangerous. About the only skill he actually enjoyed learning was alchemy with his aunt, but even then he didn't think it was his destiny.

As he grew older, Emmet found himself growing ever more distant from his family and their trades. When he was of age, he participated in the Binding Ceremony, though his parents doubted he would be successful in that, either. To their surprise, Emmet bonded with a Blitzle, and he took that to be a sign. His new friend wasn't particularly interested in any of the family trades, but was highly entertained by Emmet's magic tricks. Emmet had almost resigned himself to life as an alchemist and putting on free magic shows when he turned sixteen, and soon after developed the ability to cast actual spells. He began to practice his new type of magic for years before setting off on his own.

Emmet and Zap traveled across Lysos, settling in a new town, performing both types of magic, selling alchemical mixtures and brews, then moving on to the next town. The desert was a dangerous place, and people were happy that someone could come into their lives and make a positive contribution. Of course, being able to conjure water was his most popular trick in the desert. He's been traveling like this for four years, now. Recently, he booked passage on a ship heading north, to the Kingdom of Cantaras. After a lengthy sea voyage, he has arrived in the port city of Alexshire, where he hopes his tour of Cantaras will begin with some excitement.

    Pokémon Species: Blitzle

    Pokémon Name: Zap

    Pokémon Gender: Male

Pokémon Personality: Zap is rather easygoing. As long as he is fed and can spend time with his best friend, he couldn't be happier. He'll have a smile on his face and a spring in his step whether he's doing manual labor, playing around, or even fighting. It's not that he's simple-minded, he just has a positive attitude, and refuses to let things bring him down.

Pokémon Moveset: Quick Attack, Double Kick, Tail Whip, Shock Wave

  • Name: Casus Vastitas

    Age: 28

    Gender: Male

    Hometown: Northern Cantaran Mountains, Cantaras

    Appearance:

Casus is an average 5'11 in height, and weighs around 180 pounds. He has a lean, but muscular build that speaks of many hours of training. Casus has dark brown-black hair, cut short around his head, although it seems to be growing a little shaggy around the edges, which partially obscure his slate grey eyes, depending on how it lays. His skin is slightly worn from the arctic weather it has been exposed to; there is a thin, streaking scar beside his left eye.

Casus' attire is similar to the traditional garb of the Cantarian mountain tribes, albeit less thickly layered. He wears a simple hooded tunic, with leather pants and boots. His clothing is a dull gray color, intended to blend in to the mountainous terrain. He often wears a lightweight set of armor underneath this. His katana is carried in a scabbard on his back, which can be transferred to his belt when needed.

    clothing reference only:
    Spoiler:

    Weapon/Fighting-Style:

Casus wields a katana forged of a jet-black metal, which does not seem to be of Altarian workmanship. This foreign blade acts as a conduit for the magical energy that builds between his pokemon and the entwined warrior, allowing him to discharge powerful strikes against victims. He has spent many years honing his swordsmanship with it, and now his blade feels more like an extension of his body than a weapon. Casus wears only light armor, trading increased protection for more speed and agility in battle.

Casus' main fighting style is based on strategy and stealth, striking down his opponent without being detected. However, if forced into an open fight, he relies on his expert swordsmanship to dispatch his opponents. Since he developed his own battle style, Casus can keep his opponents off balance by unpredictably switching between defensive parries and aggressive blows. If deprived of his weapon, he will resort to hand-to-hand combat. Disregarding his shurikens, he is at a disadvantage in ranged combat.

As for spells, Casus has limited use of them, generally only to enhance his physical and tactical abilities.

    Skills/Magic:

    - Slash: Casus infuses his katana with energy, dealing a crippling blow to his victim.
    - Camouflage: Casus channels his energy, causing himself to blend in with his surroundings. While generally long lasting while he is stationary, increased movement on Casus' part causes the camouflage to weaken, along with depleting his energy.
    - Close Combat: Abandoning his swordplay, Casus channels his energy into his hand-to-hand combat, greatly increasing his physical prowess.
    - Swift: Using this spell causes Casus' movement speed, evasion, and reflexes to increase greatly. Also, it seems that his thought processes are sped up as well to match his body's speed. However, this ability cannot be maintained for a long duration, for as his energy is used in this way, Casus will fatigue much faster.

    Personality:

Casus is a man of few words. He does not travel with companions, other than his pokemon, which suits him just fine. He tends to lean towards a cold, unfeeling demeanor, and would rather stay away from anyone or anything that would draw attention to himself. He is not concerned about what other people may think about... well, much of anything, and he doesn't make any attempt to be kind or even pleasant to those around him.

However, he is an excellent listener, and picks up on things quickly. Despite what he tries to convey, he does care about certain people, and has a strong instinct to protect those who cannot defend themselves. This has led to Casus acting as a sort of vigilante at times, acting as a free agent to provide help to those who no one else will. In addition, he has a strong sense of honor, which helps to balance out his seemingly apathetic character.

    Occupation: Wandering Warrior

    History:

Casus Vastitas grew up in the northern mountains of Cantaras, which nomadic tribes were known to inhabit. These tribes generally led peaceful, simple lives, relying on their surroundings for everything they needed. He was an only child, a common occurrence in a region where the quality of life and supply of resources were lacking. His childhood was a happy one, enjoying the quiet mountain life.

As a youth, Casus showed extraordinary promise in the fields of hunting and tracking. He would spend days upon time carefully following the some of the little wildlife that roamed Northern Cantaras, determined not to return home until he had food to bring. This was, of course, a very attractive quality to his fellow tribesmen.

Eventually bonding with a nincada he dubbed "Twig", the young man continued to impress those around him. At the age of eighteen, he was sent out by his people to travel the land, training and learning all he could, so that when he returned, he would become their new guardian, their protector against any evil that might come their way. This was a tradition among the mountain folk, and Casus was honored to be chosen.

The next seven years were a whirlwind for the young man. He journeyed across the region, training with many different teachers, masters, and fighters, absorbing all he could while developing his own style. It was not long before he discovered that unnecessary, meaningless violence was a dangerous path to walk, not one he wished to bring back to his people. His battle style came to reflect this ideology, relying more on stealth and finesse than on brute force.

Eventually, it came time for Casus to return to his tribe, and accept his duty as guardian. He had never felt so excited as when he climbed the mountain paths that led to where his family was.

To his horror, Casus did not find what he expected to see in the Cantarian mountains that day. Instead of seeing the familiar sights of tents, fires, and a warm welcome from his loved ones, he saw a looming stone fortress, surrounded by what seemed to be some kind of military encampment. After questioning one of the stationed guards, Casus found that the natives that had once lived here- his people- had resisted the Cantarian Military's encroachment on their dwelling, and had been slaughtered. The warrior could barely contain his emotions, flying into a rage and attacking any soldiers in sight. Eventually he was driven away from the base by reinforcement soldiers, but by then Casus was no longer angry, only empty inside.

Casus spent the next three years wandering the Altaria region, this time without purpose or passion. He was the last of his kind, a man without a people. He could not bear to bring himself back to the mountains, to be with any other tribe that might remind him of his own. People began to wonder who the mysterious man in grey was, who wandered from town to town, never so much as uttering a word.

As of late, Casus finds himself heading towards the city of Alexshire, still drifting, like a boat without a sail...

    Pokémon Species: Nincada

    Pokémon Name: Twig

    Pokémon Personality:

The Entwined were relatively unheard of to the people of Casus' clan, since no pokemon eggs were provided for nomadic youths. One fateful day, though, Casus came across the remains of a strange object while hunting. A wooden cart that belonged to a traveling merchant. The unfortunate merchant, who was likely lost to even be there in the first place, was no where to be found, and his ensemble was nearly destroyed, with pieces of wood strewn through the snow. Amidst the wreckage was a strange egg, and Casus instantly wondered if its contents were edible. As he reached out to touch it, however, a strange pokemon, a baby nincada, burst out. Thus, Casus became one of the entwined, and his bond with Twig was formed.

A relaxed-natured pokemon, Twig is always ready for a nap. It is extremely loyal despite this, even if that could mean putting itself in harm's way. It is generally suspicious of new people and pokemon, often watching them motionlessly for quite some time. After warming up to someone though, Twig is pretty content to fall asleep on their shoulder just as he would on Casus'.

    Pokémon Moveset:

    - Bug Bite
    - Harden
    - Dig
    - Fury Swipes

Hello, I'm new in this forum and with role playing in general. I decided to give it a chance now, so here it is. Any feedback is appreciated.

    Name: Alexander Hartshorne

    Age: 19 years old.

    Gender: Male

    Hometown: Elysian Islands, Ethora.

Appearance: Alexander's height is about 1.75 meters, although he looks taller due to his slender complexity. He has the brown color of skin typical of a person that spends several hours under the light of the sun. His hair is dark brown, and gives the impression of carelessness. His arms are a bit longer than they should, and at the end of them his hands are rough like the ones of someone who does a great deal of hard work. Despite of this, his complexity does not reflect high physical strength.

Alexander has not a very handsome face, but his factions are not particularly unattractive. His mouth is small, with two pale lips forming an almost horizontal line. His cheeks are what you would expect from someone of his complexion. His nose is sharp, but not too big, and above it his black eyes seem to lazily scan his surroundings.

In terms of clothing, Alexander looks just as a regular peasant. He usually wears worn out shirts that once were white, but are of a light brown color due to the use. He wears it over his pants, which are usually brown and reach to the middle of his calves. His clothes are always loose, like they were made for someone chubbier than him. They definitely favor comfort rather than fashion.

Weapon/Fighting-Style: Alexander is not ver skilled in battle because he never recived proper trainning. He was never required to defend himself either. If he had to choose a weapon to fight, it would maybe be a long stick: more than once when he was a child, he found himself playing with whatever he could find, including sticks, as any child would do.

Skills/Magic: Alexander's town is probably one of the smallests towns in Ethora, and there was no other entwined around. Because of this, Alexander never properly trained how to use his magic skills.

    - Rain dance: Alexander is able to create rain clouds above in the sky. This ability is very demanding, and using it consumes basically all the energy/mana of Alexander, apart from rendering him completely exhausted.

    - Sunny day: Alexander can turn a rainy day into a sunny landscape. As with rain dance, this spell is very demanding, although not as much as rain dance. However, it is particularly difficult to execute when it's heavy rainning. Alexander would sometimes use it to partially mitigate storms that made it impossible for fishermen to fish, although after doing it he himself was not able to work due to the fatigue.

    - Endure: Alexander is able to barely withstand wounds that normally would result in his inmediate death. However, he does not know he posseses this kind of ability.

Personality: Alexander is rather shy. He is not the kind of persons that tends to be the center of attention. When speaking to someone else he is very polite and pays much attention to his interlocutor. Otherwise, he is not very talkative, and when he is asked a question or required to speak, he always takes his time before doing so. He is the kind of person you can meet once, and forget about him the next day.

Perhaps the two most distinctive characteristics of Alexander's personality are his disposition to help other people, and his lack of self-conficence. Those two characteristics together often result in Alexander privileging other's interests above his own.

Alexander's interests are simple. He does not come from a poor family, but rather from one of the lowest middle-class ones. However, he does not feel jealous of people with better oportunities in life. In fact, he almost never thinks about such things.

    Occupation: Fisherman.

History: Alexander is the only son of Edgar and Jennifer Hartshorne. His father was a fisherman, like his grandfather, and Alexander learned from his father when he was barely six years old, and he soon became the right hand of his father. Alexander was born in one of the Elysian islands farest from the mainland, in a town called Marea (I don't know if I can create towns, by the way.), in the same house his mother had lived when she was young, and where now he lived. He rarely leaves the islands, and when he does he never goes farthest than the ports in the mainlands of Ethora (not until now, that is).

Since child Alexander has a fascination with the sea, and with the different creatures that live in it. He grew old hearing from his mother stories about the mighty Kyogre, from whom his parents were especially adept, like many of the fishermen around those areas. His fascination was encouraged with the daily expeditions with his father for fishing, and it increased even more at the age of ten, when he become entwined with his Stary partner, Luna. It is worth saying that despite his interest in the sea, Alexander was afraid of swimming. Several times his father tried to teach him how to swim, but Alexander never got it.

When Alexander was 14 years old, his father died unexpectedly while he was asleep. His mother Jennifer found in the morning he was dead, and since that day Alexander alone was in charge of her. The closests relative they knew about was his father's brother, who left home to travel around the world when Alexander had a few months, and from whom they never had any news again. When Alexander was almost 18 years old, his mother got sick after a big storm hit Marea. Her sickness only got worse every day, and after two months of staying in bed she died. Alexander was now alone with Luna, and continued to live as a fisherman in his lifetime house.

After some more than a year, one of the fishermen in town with whom Alexander had worked together a few times was looking for help as crew on a shipment with destination to Cantara. Alexander offered himself, and he went to Cantara taking Luna with him, as he always did. The ship would stay in Alexshire for 6 days and later would return to Ethora. One night however, it occured to Alexander that he no longer had any obligaton to come back to his hometown. When he was a child he wondered a few times what was it like to travel around the world, as he had heard about his uncle, but he never gave it much of a thouhgt. Now the idea was stuck in his head, and that very day he decided he would not ride the ship that took him there. There were two days remainning until the departure, and his decision was silent. He didn't communicate his intentions with anyone right away. Maybe he would do it until the last day in the morning, who knows?

This is how Alexander got into Alexshire...

    Pokémon Species: Staryu

    Pokémon Name: Luna

Pokémon Personality: Unlike Alexander, Luna is ver sociable. She is friendly with people approaching her, especially with babies. Alexander refered to Luna as a "her" despite fact Staryus are genderless. This did not seem to bother her.

    Pokémon Moveset:

    - Harden
    - Recover
    - Water gun
    - Rapid spin

RP Sample: It was past midnight and outside was pitch dark. The sky was so cloudy not even the dim light of the moon could make it to the surface of the streets. Everyone at home was already asleep. Everyone, except from this young man who was sitting alone in his room and with no light other than that from the screen of his laptop, to which he was staring unexpressive. His fingers were typing word after word in an impatient manner, and his lips followed silently articulating everything that appeared in the screen. After some time, the man stopped. He closed his eyes, breathed deeply, and now proceeded to read with a faint gasp what he had just created. When he was finished, he closed his eyes again, stood still for a couple of minutes, and then shooked his head. "This is not good, I don't like it" he said. "No... it's terrible!" he said in a voice higher than he would have liked it to be. He then realised someone could awake in another room if he was not carefull, and remained silent for a few seconds. "This won't do it" he said, and in less than a blink it was gone. His screen now displayed a plain white. "A role play sample?" he said, this time in a whisper. "How am I supposed to do that? I've never played a role game before. Well, not this kind I mean" he added, thinking on various videogames, incluiding his old copy of pokemon Crystal, which were classified as rpg's.

The young man suddenly stood up from his chair and began to walk in circles around the room, playing with his hands and looking to the ceiling. He continued so for about ten minutes, murmuring to himself. Then he abruptly stopped, remained still for a few seconds, and quickly walked again to his chair. While sitting he dropped a thick book that was lying on his desk a second ago. The book did a hard noise when falling, and it was answered by a deep, loud snore. The young man waited cautiously, took the book from the floor carefully, and dropped it again over the desk. He then began to write again, staring to the screen with the eyes wide open, almost maliciously. His fingers moved fast above the keyboard, and his lips followed every word with a dim whisper.

He stopped, closed his eyes and leaned on the back of the chair. He breathed deeply, rubbed his eyes, and then proceeded to read again what he had just written. He read once first, and then a couple of times more. He paused sometimes, changing a word or adding some punctuation. He read again the last few words, like trying to grasp a subtle flavor in a fine glass of wine. He repeated them aloud, now with his eyes closed, several times. Then silence. His eyes remained closed, and his hands were together, and now his lips barely moved. This continued for some minutes, until finally he opened his eyes.

He scratched his head, stretched his arms, and then nodded. "There is no point, I better get some sleep" he said while he deleted the text and turned off his laptop, leaving the room in complete darkness.

  • Attention!

I and the other GMs have been talking, and we've decided that once a certain amount of time and action has passed, we'll allow those who wish to, to change some of their current spells into others. This does -not- include upgrading them, but would allow you to, for example, change out Thundershock for Slash, if you were interested in trying that out as a spell. However, later on in the RP, when your characters grow stronger, they'll be able to learn the next 'tier' of their spell, which can be decided in unison between us and the RP'er. For instance could Poison Sting upgrade to Poison Fang. Thundershock to Thunderbolt, etc.

Likewise, Pokémon learning new moves or evolving will also be handed out by us during key points in the story, but we'll of course listen to your suggestions and take them into consideration :) If you have any more questions about the magic or Pokémon system, let us know!

  • This does seem interesting. Consider this my placeholder. I have a character in mind to rehash for this. Done.

    x
    Name: Marcus
    Age: 19
    Gender: Male
    Hometown: Bayren, Ethora

Occupation: Assassin/Thief/Mercenary On his own from a young age, Marcus took up a life of thievery and cons, which he has continued until this day. He's been tutored as an assassin for the past few years, and now plies his trade as a mercenary for hire.

Weapon/Fighting Style: Marcus prefers a more brutal fighting style, favoring the sword above any other weapon. His primary blade is a cusped falchion, which he dubbed Boia. He also carries a crossbow, and a stiletto given to him by his mentor, Veronica.

He favors quick, powerful blows, and often disregards defense entirely. In open battle he's a formidable opponent, and when he takes the route of stealth he becomes a vicious and deadly assassin.

    Skills/Magic:

    Poison Sting
Cloaking his blade or crossbow bolt in a deadly toxin, Marcus attacks foes without mercy. The poison has a greater chance of invading the body if Marcus manages to strike a vital organ; otherwise the poison isn't potent enough to prove fatal.
    Flame Charge
Marcus summons a revolving cloak of flames and charges at opponents, super-heating his blade and increasing in speed with each use of the attack. Overuse, however, can leave him rather
    burned out.
    *ba dum tiss* pun intended
    Stun Spore
Producing a flurry of small yellow spores, Marcus paralyzes opponents. Unsuspecting victims are more susceptible, as the spores aren't all that difficult to dispel.
    Acrobatics
Marcus frees his body and begins to move with unparalleled agility. This gives him more versatility in combat, as well as allowing him to perform feats such as leaping to impressive heights, surviving intense falls, and climbing previously difficult to scale objects. The spell provides an initial burst of energy, but each action subsequently taken uses twice the normal amount of energy.
Appearance: Marcus is a tall, broad man. He towers above most others at six feet three inches and his impressive muscles give him a bulky two hundred and fifty pounds to work with. He has chiseled facial features further defined by his red stubble that he keeps cleanly shaped. His red hair is short and stylistically unkempt, and his deep green eyes complement his bright hair beautifully. He's incredibly fit and his muscles clearly show it.

He wears a simple white tunic, brown breeches, and worn brown leather boots for the day to day. In open battle, he's clad in a thick light armor fashioned from dragon scales. When taking a more stealthy approach, he wears a dark cape made from a strong, fire-resistant fabric.

    references: head, eyes, body type

Personality: Marcus is about as stubborn and reckless as they come, and he's not shy about it. His attitude is loud, and his demeanor not very light. He learned anger at a very young age, and it's been his best weapon against the world around him ever since. He can be irritable and hotheaded, and he's quick to challenge authority. Still, he concentrates his anger against those that he believes deserve it: the corrupt and the oppressive, for starters. Sure, he can be kind, but it's not something he does that often, and only for certain people. He's polite to strangers, and loving to children, but he's not an easy person to make friends with.

He's an easy person to get along with, though, in a certain sense. He likes to play for both teams, and he doesn't discriminate when it comes to who he gets in bed with, so long as he finds them attractive. On a less serious level, he does try to maintain some amount of amiability, and he can be incredibly charismatic when his anger isn't getting the best of him.

History: Marcus was born into an extraordinarily impoverished family on the streets of Bayren, where he lived a life of base survival and in deplorable conditions for the first five years of his life. He remembers little of these first few years, other than experiencing intense amounts of fear, hunger, and pain. The first vivid memory that he retains is that of fire, blood, and steel. When he was five years old, most of his family perished in a fire; beyond that, most of what he knows of that day is what he's been told: the fire that killed his family was not accidental, and the blood and steel he remembers is from when his parents were slaughtered in front of him. The "who" and "why" to the mystery of the ones who killed his family remain an enigma. The only reason he survived is because his eldest sister hid him away during the disaster, and he was then rescued by a woman in strange robes. Years later he would come to know this woman as Veronica.

The woman didn't stick around for more than a few moments, running off to some other target almost immediately. From then on Marcus was left mostly to himself, sticking by his uncle and last remaining relative for a while afterwards. His uncle wasn't a loving or well-to-do person, and so only assisted him rather than taking him in. Marcus was still alone, more than ever before, and quickly learned how to survive on his own. He would beg, steal food and coin, pickpocket, and pick locks to get what he needed to survive. He went on like this for about nine years. When he was fourteen, he made friends with another street urchin much like himself. They began performing crimes together, and thanks to a boosted confidence from their teamwork, the scale of the crimes they performed heightened, resulting in larger rewards for larger risks. Of course, this got them noticed, but they managed to evade direct confrontation with the authorities for two years.

During this time, the two became good friends. So good, in fact, that they eventually became romantically involved. That was about the time that Marcus's uncle decided to start pretending that he didn't exist. It hurt Marcus, but he figured it wasn't a huge loss since his uncle hadn't been a great help to him in the first place. He continued in his ways, which eventually led to a spot of trouble that led to the death of Marcus's friend. Suffice to say that didn't help with his negative views of the world, and he soon resorted to placing mental barriers around himself, shutting himself off from the world. He became angry and bitter, which caused him to challenge the authorities even more.

His only other friend was a male Nidoran by the name of Snorri. Marcus was eight years old when they became Entwined. He hadn't taken part in the ritual in a traditional sense, as he was a mere street urchin that no one cared enough to formally escort to the event. Instead his curiosity is what led him to finding Snorri: when he noticed the children being herded away, he decided to follow them. He watched from afar as the children attempted to become Entwined by touching the eggs, with most failing and few succeeding. After the children, the newly hatched Pokémon, and the adult escorts had cleared the area, Marcus went over to investigate the scene. He examined the eggs with awe, eventually focusing in on a small, purple egg. When he came into contact with it, it hatched into the baby Nidoran that he would dub "Snorri."

After the death of Marcus's friend, it was only him and Snorri for a time. It wasn't long, however, before Marcus met the woman Veronica again. Apparently she had been keeping a distant eye on him, and by that point had decided that his talents could be of use, and so she took him under her wing and began to train him in the art of murder. For the next three years she tutored him in the ways of assassination. Nowadays he travels the land as a blade for hire, with Veronica occasionally showing up to further his instruction.

    Pokémon

    Species: Nidoran♂
    Name: Snorri
Personality: Having been raised on the streets by Marcus, Snorri has adapted a personality not unlike his partner's. He's stubborn and temperamental, but he also acts as Marcus's anchor at times. Snorri doesn't share Marcus's anger, giving him a calmer demeanor that often offers a much needed perspective for Marcus. He's immensely curious, and he's usually rather amiable, but he doesn't hesitate to leap to Marcus's defense. He's an intensely loyal partner that lends many attributes that Marcus lacks, balancing him out.
Moveset: Peck, Focus Energy, Double Kick, Head Smash
