We all like to get the upper hand in a game. That's what Special moves are for! Whether you are playing Rainbow 6: Siege or Mortal Combat, your character's special could be the difference between winning or losing.

What are some of your favorite special moves/abilities/powers in games and why?

    Reaper's Death Blossom from Overwatch

    "DIE DIE DIE!"

DIE! DIE! DIE!. If there's one thing that's very satisfying when playing Reaper is that perfectly executed flank attack where you basically wipe out the enemy team. Getting the perfect timing for the perfect Death Blossom wipe is one of the harder things to do in the game since it involves a lot of map, route, and even ability cooldown checking to successfully pull it off.

Also, its such a lovely sight to see. Watching someone go all guns blazing and letting the bodies hit the floor.

Player's Air Strike from Call of Duty 4

"Friendly Air Strike on its way!"

The Air Strike has always been my favorite kill streak reward in CoD4 mainly since its almost instantaneous on how it delivers kills especially in certain maps that make this air support ability do disgustingly powerful, like in Countdown where Air Strikes can guarantee some delicious kill feeds.

Also, unlike the Attack Helicopter, which comes after the Air Strike, the planes cannot be shot down. They have to be avoided. So even if the Air Strike doesn't deliver any kills, it can still be used as a means to get the enemies out of position so that your team can have their vantage points while the enemy is too busy running around to avoid getting bombed.

Soldier 76's Tactical Visor from Overwatch

"I GOT YOU IN MY SIGHTS!"

Tactical Visor may not sound like the flashiest ultimate ability like say Junkrat's Rip Tire, Zarya's Gravitational Bomb, Mei's Blizzard, or Reaper's Death Blossom, but that's how it is. Simplicity.

The Tactical Visor enables Soldier 76 to simply do something that A LOT of players who play shooting games want to do: Auto aim without using any cheats or hacks. Legit autoaim. A legit Aimbot. This is Soldier 76's ultimate. Going Full auto while perfectly hitting enemies will still moving around the field, its such a wonderful ability to have and one of the reasons why some players like Soldier 76.

Also, like in the example video above, it provides some really nice highlight reels.

The Parry special maneuver in Street Fighter 3: Third Strike.

Just look up EVO Moment #37.
Parrying is one of the best universal mechanics in any fighting game along with burst from Arc Sys games and mega crash from TvC.

Anyway, I really like Z-cancels and ledge cancels in Smash 64. Seeing high level players use these mechanics to their full potential is great and makes Smash 64 look so fluid (although the smash DI in that game makes it look silly at times).

Countering moves are some of my better ones. Dodge, then attack. If there's only a dodge button I'll be mashing it for the foreseeable future. Characters that require you to get hit or nab your opponent's strike often deal some of the most punishing damage.

Thor Gunships "Hold the Line" ability (Mental Omega): Not 100% sure if this qualifies since its a RTS unit, but the Thor Gunship's second weapon which works like a ability allows it to boost the armor of everything allied under it by 40%. Downside is that their speed is halved, but as the name says, you aren't expected to move. This has saved my bacon plenty of times or made engagements with the enemy seem onesided, while the already powerful units of the Euro Alliance get even beefier for that maximum damage potential.
