Just wanted to say this, Pokemon is for kids and such contains no cussing. But in the Pokemon:Origin series. (The 1st gen manga in anime form) has quite a few minor cuss words. For example Red has said Damn at least 6 times, and while battling Brock, Brock yells Like Hell!Oh yeah this is in the 1st episode.

  • That's in the Japanese version. Their standards on what's appropriate for kid are different. There's some scenes in Black and White and Black 2 and White 2 that can pretty much be taken sexually. Such as the Nursery Aid on the Ferris Wheel who reveals to be a man in disguise or the Hiker in Black and White looking for a lover and pretty much hitting on you. All of this was cut out in the English versions. It also may be the case of bad subtitles and translations, but I may be wrong there. If there is any cussing though, it's all gonna be edited out in the dub cause North America's is more strict on what's okay for children.

  • Mm, there's also the translation issue. "shimatta" can apparently be translated as "oh no!" or "damn!", which have very different connotations in English. Neither of them are particularly inappropriate for children imo.

If you're concerned about inappropriateness though, compare Indigo League. Even in the dub there's a lot of adult humor and in Japanese it's off the charts for what America would consider kid-appropriate.

  • Jap. anime always has cuss words in it. Mainly Damn and Hell. You will rarely see a Jap Anime version that doesn't have cuss words.

However I will say that as Anna said, there is a ton of adult humor in the English Gen 1. Here in America, they try to keep cuss words out of kid animes. If it has a single cuss word, they will not play it unless it is at night on Toonami or something.

Not upset about inapropriateness just wanted to mention. Also know I'm gonna go watch Gen 1.

  • Yes as many of the mentioned things on this topic. In Japan the standard of what is appropriate is different to a considerable mention. Yes in Japan they do say minor profanity but, they also in the Indigo League in which James had inflatable breasts. In America that is a huge no go! So yeah, in Japan they are not super strict unless it involves a natural disaster or the infamous Electric Warrior Porygon episode. Which are banned.
