  • Originally I was going for a SafeSwagger set Meow goes with Safeguard than Protect mainly Chomp and swagger on Chomp. I dont always lead with that tho. I think its a good idea to have Swagger and Safeguard with a support Mon.

I usually will lead Garchomp and Talonflame.
Talon is my Physical Sweeper. Main goal is to do as much damage as possible which is why LO is on it. Tailwind I use sometimes if there is a I need an extra boost of speed and when I feel that Talon doing damage isnt worth it. Rest is more/less based on pre-constructed teams on forums like this.

    Tyranitar (F) @ Weakness Policy
    Ability: Sand Stream
    EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
    Timid Nature
    IVs: 0 Atk
    - Ice Beam
    - Rock Slide
    - Dark Pulse
    - Protect

Garchomp (F) @ Rocky Helmet (Lum Berry)
    Ability: Rough Skin
    EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
    Jolly Nature
    IVs: 0 SAtk
    - Dragon Claw
    - Rock Slide
    - Earthquake
    - Protect

    Talonflame @ Life Orb
    Ability: Gale Wings
    EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
    Adamant Nature
    - Brave Bird
    - Tailwind
    - Flare Blitz
    - Taunt

    Mawile @ Mawilite
    Ability: Intimidate
    EVs: 252 HP / 180 Atk / 40 Def / 36 SDef
    Adamant Nature
    - Play Rough
    - Iron Head
    - Sucker Punch
    - Protect

    Meowstic (M) @ Mental Herb
    Ability: Prankster
    EVs: 252 HP / 184 Def / 72 SDef
    Bold Nature
    IVs: 0 Atk
    - Protect
    - Safeguard
    - Swagger
    - Light Screen

    Salamence (M) @ Choice Scarf

  • What's the point of Rock Slide when you're using a Timid nature with Tyranitar? You're just wasting away its good Attack:
    -Rock Slide
    -Dark Pulse
    -Fire Blast/Ice Beam
    -Protect
    Nature: Quiet
    EVs: 252 HP/4 Atk/4 Def/244 SAtk/4 SDef
    Item: Life Orb/Chople Berry

A protection move is pretty much necessary with Talonflame given its frailty:
    -Flare Blitz
    -Brave Bird
    -Tailwind/Quick Guard
    -Protect/Quick Guard
    Nature: Adamant
    EVs: 84 HP/252 Atk/172 Spe
    Item: Life Orb/Sky Plate/Sharp Beak
    Ability: Gale Wings

  • rock slide is used on timid tyranitars in vgc for talonflame + charizard because with a life orb/ weakness policy boost it still ohko's talonflame and does good damage against zard and the flinch chance means it also partialy a support move, meowstick is rather versatile with the support moves it can use so u could swap it around to see what u like the most and i agree that talonflame needs protect

Timid + 0 Attack IV weakens Rock Slide's power in general, so that's why I'm against it.

Point of That T-Tar is to make it a Specialist. With Garchomp having Rock slide I didnt want to make it predictable that "Oh both of them have rock slide, use wide guard" Even tho I could just not use Rock Slide at any given time. I like the idea that I could do a Rock slide outta no where. T-Tar is based on Rizzo's T-Tar Except mine is a pure specialist except a mixed attacker.

    Well, with Assault Vest Special Tyranitar you'll wanna use Stone Edge or Ancient Power because Rock Slide doesn't KO the common Charizard-Y after Intimidate;

    -1 0- Atk Tyranitar Rock Slide vs. 100 HP / 0 Def Mega Charizard Y: 120-144 (72.2 - 86.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

    Talonflame as well;
    -1 0- Atk Tyranitar Rock Slide vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Talonflame: 132-156 (85.7 -101.2%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO

    Compared to AP/SE;

    252+ SpA Tyranitar Ancient Power vs. 100 HP / 0 SpD Mega Charizard Y: 168-196 (101.2 - 118%) -- guaranteed OHKO

    -1 0- Atk Tyranitar Stone Edge vs. 100 HP / 0 Def Mega Charizard Y: 216-256 (130.1 - 154.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

    With LO;
    252+ SpA Life Orb Tyranitar Ancient Power vs. 100 HP / 0 SpD Mega Charizard Y: 218-255 (131.3 - 153.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

    -1 0- Atk Life Orb Tyranitar Rock Slide vs. 100 HP / 0 Def Mega Charizard Y: 156-187 (93.9 - 112.6%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO

    -1 0- Atk Life Orb Tyranitar Stone Edge vs. 100 HP / 0 Def Mega Charizard Y: 281-333 (169.2 - 200.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

IMO, just run AncientPower. It ignores Intimidate/burn/Wide Guard and doesn't have shaky accuracy.

Special Tyranitar is viable, but Tyranitar is better off mixed if you want to use special moves.

Proof that Quiet has to be used with Rock Slide. I'm against using physical moves with -Attack natures, which was why I posted that Tyranitar set earlier (this is all after Intimidate):
    -1 4 Atk Tyranitar Rock Slide vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Talonflame: 144-172 (93.5 - 111.6%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO

    1 4 Atk Tyranitar Rock Slide vs. 0 HP / 100 Def Mega Charizard Y: 120-144 (78.4 - 94.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Just to speak on Talonflames move set for a minute. Is Protect/Roost a bad idea?

    - Flare Blitz
    - Brave Bird
    - Protect
    - Roost

This is with a Life Orb. I was thinking about this myself, this post is really for myself and the OP.

  • It's not bad but it's fairly situational. A lot of the times my Talonflame doesn't survive a hit but on the rare occasions that it does, Roost is pretty dang useful and leaves your opponent screaming. The problem is exactly that, Talonflame rarely survives. You're better off switching Roost for U-turn/Quick Guard/Tailwind but if you can somehow get it bulky enough to survive at least 30% of attacks, Roost might come in useful for you.

I dont expect talon to survive. Use is mainly wreckless abandonment in most situations. QG is for a fake outs. Tailwind is situational. I want to keep BB and Flare for Coverage. Since Talon can out speed almost everything
