  • Team Rocket has monopolized organized crime beyond Kanto and even Johto. Without Teams Magma and Aqua in Hoenn, Team Galactic in Sinnoh, or Team Flare in Kalos, Team Rocket took over with relative ease. Team Snagem protects Orre, the remaining half of Team Plasma loyal to King N guards the Unova reion, Team Skull and the Aether Foundation are working together to keep the islands of Alola safe, the Manzana Academy has recruited the former members Team Star to protect their beloved Paldea. The Pokémon Rangers of Fiore, Almia, and Oblivia are secure, sending some of their own to help the Resistance in other regions. Giovanni has his eyes set on Galar as his next conquest.

Are you a Pokémon Trainer, a Pokémon Ranger, perhaps a Pokémon with celebrity status? Regardless, due your incredibly strong sense of justice, skills in the power of The Aura, a possible personal vendetta against Team Rocket, or even the fact that you just want to make the world a better place for people and Pokémon alike... You have been recruited to form a group of heroes known as the Retaliators, who will be a new hope for the world of Pokémon, and be the key to bringing down Team Rocket once and for all!

You arrive at the Main HQ of Damon Enterprises, in the bustling metropolis of Castelia City, Unova. You will finally see this mysterious figure, a man-made Pokémon known as Mewtwo, and the heir to Damon Enterprises, Eric Damon, after going down the elevator to the lowest basement floor.

The Retaliators will be a elite group of heroes, each with their own specialized suit and alter ego to hide their civilian identity, going on various missions to defeat Team Rocket so they can never rise again!

Peggy eventually saved Eric from Team Plasma's Shadow Triad by outsmarting them when they tried to capture him. She had recently graduated from the Pokémon Ranger Academy with the help from her partner Snivy. Eric always went wtih his girlfriend wherever she was stationed. A little more than two years ago, while stationed in Kanto, one of their fellow Rangers, Mordred, seemed suspicious to Eric and Peggy. Turns out Mordred was actually a spy for Team Rocket, stealing secrets from the Rangers. Knowing Eric and Peggy were catching onto him, so he had a plan to silence them. He started a stampede of wild Pokémon, also sabotaging the communication systems the Rangers had. Peggy confronted Mordred, standing between him and her boyfriend Eric, and Mordred killed her. Eric swore to avenge her death, and eventually stumbled upon a Pokémon that was created by Team Rocket, but also hated them more than anything. This was Mewtwo, whom Eric would form an alliance with. Eric received countless donations to fund a tech company, which had a secret plan to help fight Team Rocket. This is how he became the first Retaliator, not even six months ago.

  • Sounds fun, yes, but I have a question before throwing my hat in the ring: Can the Retaliator appearance alter a character's appearance one way or another? The character(s?) I have in mind have different hairstyles despite being the same person, so...

Interesting premise, I always loved plots that deviated from the regular formula and the Tokusatsu vibes I'm getting from this are more than welcome. I just have some doubts regarding the mechanical aspect of things, mainly:
    1. How do battles work? Are they resolved through pure storytelling, are dice rolled or is something else entirely done to decide who wins?
    2. How do levels work? Like, what are the initial levels, how is XP handled (Are they rewarded based on word count, purely by battle or is the campaign going to use a milestone system?) and how can we evolve our mons?

PS: Sorry if this all is obvious stuff, I just have never participated in a Pokémon RP, so, please, bear with this newbie's doubts.

Took me a couple of days and a lot of scrapped ideas, but I finally figured out both a CSS template and a character concept I like. So, here it goes:

    Harry Valent
    "Life Is Show Time!"

    Civilian Name: Harry Valent
    Retaliator Name: Mr. V
    Age: 18
    Gender: Male
    Trainer, Ranger or Pokémon: Trainer

    Partner Pokémon:

    Caster the Fennekin ♀
    Ability: Blaze
    Moves:

    - Scratch
    - Howl
    - Heat Wave
    - Facade

    Seer the Ralts ♀
    Ability: Synchronize
    Moves:

    - Psybeam
    - Hypnosis
    - Draining Kiss
    - Teleport

    Jester the Zorua ♂
    Ability: Illusion
    Moves:

    - Knock Off
    - Snarl
    - Fake Tears
    - Extrasensory

    Personality:

A rather impulsive and happy-go-lucky young man, when in public, Harry enjoys making a spectacle out of everything, his littlest accomplishments become feats of chivalric legends to any bystander willing to listen. Although he can, in fact, be a bit narcissistic, most of his public persona is just an act. At his core, Harry is a man plagued by PTSD whose biggest wish is to end Team Rocket and other forms of organized crime, so that they can't hurt anyone anymore.

    History:

Harry was born to the Kalosian Valent household in Santalune City, the son of a Team Flare grunt and his wife. A few years after his birth, his parents were murdered by the group after his father deserted due to learning more about Lysandre's grand plan. He managed to escape from his home as it was raided, together with his Fennekin, Caster, the only remnant of his old family.
From then on, Harry would live in a local orphanage after being found on the streets by its Director. Harry didn't get along with the other kids, his only friends were Caster and Seer, a Ralts he captured during one of his many escapades to the routes outside of the city.
One such little adventure happened on his tenth birthday. After trying to capture a Litleo, Harry and his Pokémon were attacked by a wild Pyroar on Route 22.
When all hope seemed lost, Harry manifested psychic capabilities for the first time, using his telepathy to stealthily coordinate a strategy with his Pokémon and his telekinesis to make a branch of a nearby tree fall on the wild beast, giving him and his party enough time to escape.
Since then, Harry managed to find some popularity by exploiting his psychic capabilities for magical shows, becoming something of a celebrity in Santalune and Kalos as a whole.
His latest addition to the team, Jester the Zorua, marks the beginning of his conflict with Team Rocket. Shortly after Team Flare's downfall and the rise of Team Rocket in Kalos, while doing a show in Coumarine City, Harry witnessed a Rocket grunt load suspicious cargo onto a ship.
Following him, Harry discovered that dozens of rare Pokémon from multiple regions were being attained by Team Rocket and sold at exorbitant prices to their Kalosian sponsors. Being able to hear the despair of the captured Pokémon, he could not turn away.
He immediately sneaked onto the vessel and battled his way through Rocket goons, saving the Pokémon. After Harry handed over the criminals to the police, tamed Pokémon were given back to their owners, some were taken to shelters, and others were released into the Kalosian wild, but Jester, who witnessed Harry fighting, wished to stay with him.
After receiving the offer to join the Retaliators, Harry began to establish himself in Castelia City, to destroy Team Rocket at its core, so that his region and the world may be free from the criminal menace.

    Special Abilities:

Limited psychic capabilities, being capable of telekinesis (Though he isn't able to lift anything heavier than, approximately, double his weight) and telepathy (Which allows him to communicate with Pokémon, although this psychic bond can only be formed if the Pokémon is willing to communicate with him), and, while he is not able to use aura itself, he has a mild understanding of it.

  • Whelp, I never fiddled with CSS until recently and mostly post on mobile, so might as well keep my profile simple. 😉

    KAEDE YUKIMURA (SHERRY RUTH)
    Base CSS by Aquacorde

    • Personal Info

      Civilian Name: Kaede Yukimura
      Retaliator Name: Sherry Ruth
Age: 20 years old (this RP is set several days after her 20th birthday)
      Gender: Female
      Trainer? Ranger? Pokémon? : Ranger
      Special Abilities:
      • Can understand Poke-talks to some degree (courtesy of an elective class she had taken back in the Ranger School)
      • High resistance to cold (so basically she can withstand colder climates than what most people can handle due to the environment she grew up in)
      • Can use basic sign language (a mute coworker taught her this one)

      Theme Song: Sheriruth
      Battle Theme: Sheriruth (Laur remix)
      Others:
      • In her civilian form, Kaede typically goes by surname first (Yukimura Kaede) upon introduction.
      • Kaede usually addresses people with Japanese honorifics as per the culture she grew up with. As Sherry? Who knows.
      • The tokusatsu-like Retaliator outfit feels too stuffy for Sherry, hence her opting for a hairstyle change and an altered Ranger uniform instead.
      • Her styler takes the form of its Shadows of Almia version as Kaede and its Guardian Signs version with matching color as Sherry.
    • About Kaede

Civilian Appearance: (Dollmaker courtesy of Hapuriainen)
      Spoiler: Casual

      Spoiler: Pokemon Ranger

      Retaliator Appearance:
      Spoiler:

      Personality:
Despite her (initially) frail body, Kaede is a free-spirited young lady who can be quite a softie at times. Her sense of justice, along with her physical strength, had been honed through her chosen career. However, saying that she's "trapped in obligations" is not quite the right word due to her own obligations as a Pokemon Ranger. Also, due to her environment growing up, she became a fervent believer in Arceus. It is not her job to spread her belief, however.
    • Backstory

Born and raised in a modernized Nixtorm, Ransei, Kaede Yukimura was originally slated to be the heir of her family company. However, turned out that her younger brother, Shugo Yukimura, had a much better aptitude for it than her. That, coupled with Kaede's lack of interest in running the company, effectively freed her up to pursue her desired career path.

At first Kaede wasn't that sure what she wanted to be as soon as she was relieved from her "company heiress" stuff. Along with her Alolan Vulpix, Shiron (who was originally Shugo's but ended up having a closer bond with his sister instead), she took a gap year for a soul searching journey after graduating from a local Pokemon academy, eventually deciding to walk the path of a Pokemon Ranger. She enrolled in the Ranger School in Almia at the age of 13 and graduated at 16, after which she was assigned to various places in the Pokemon world -- including her home region, Ransei.

And now, when Kaede's barely aged 20, the Ranger Union sent her to Unova in hopes of helping the Retaliators with their goal of taking Team Rocket down. Since it's a part of the job and she could trust the warlords and their warriors to stop Team Rocket from pulling a Nobunaga in Ransei, Kaede took up the job because hey, why not?
    • Pokemon

      Name: Shiron
      Species: Alolan Vulpix
      Gender: Female
      Ability: Snow Warning
      Moves:
      • Icy Wind
      • Quick Attack
      • Dazzling Gleam
      • Aurora Veil

    Civilian Name: Andy Richter

    Retaliator Name: Nascent Nova

    Age (18-49 in human years):18

Gender (Male, Female, Trans, etc): male

Trainer?Ranger?Pokémon? (which one are you?): Trainer

    Partner Pokémon Azurill, Togepi, Pichu

Moves (maximum of four for each Pokémon, but be reasonable):
Azurill- Water gun, helping hand. aqua jet, slam
Togepi- pound, sweet kiss, Ancientpower. Safeguard
pichu- nuzzle, thundershock, disarming voice , tail whip

Personality: Andy is eager to observe the world around him and somewhat inquisitive. That inquisitiveness has made him very bright in terms of knowledge of nature but has also led to an unhealthy sense of danger because of it. Due to still being young, he is still a little naive, which results in him falling for pranks, such as April Fools pranks. However, when this does happen, he will see it as a learning experience and occasionally going along with it knowing full well that it's a prank for the sake of humor. One example of this comes from Ratattas or other prankster pokémon hiding his items all over Mahogany Town, the pokémon themselves belonging to other trainers. The scavenger hunts don't bother him as he sees the pokémon as being playful or silly. Andy has high morals and won't allow anything to happen to his friends, going out of his way to try and settle disputes between other locals, even though it's clearly none of his business, telling the truth whenever he does something wrong, or just being around for people that have had bad days. This does lead to him getting into some sticky situations, however, such as people ignoring Andy during a dispute, at which point he will leave them alone.

Andy will start out shy to any person or pokèmon but will gradually warm up to them as time goes on and strive above most things to keep his friends happy, beware he will run away from anyone that lashes out at him. Battle-wise Andy favors being more on the defensive side, envisioning pokémon battles to be more like chess matches rather than matches of power preferring to pick his opponents apart with strategy instead.

History (your backstory and how you ended up getting recruited): Born into a quaint, moderately sized house in Mahogany Town Andy was an introvert at the start of his childhood, clinging mainly to his parents, Bob and Martha Richter for protection due to extreme shyness. This led to him being homeschooled and learning basic reading, writing, and math from them. The parents wanted him to make some friends with any other kids at their favorite spot, which also happens to be where the parents met, Corsola Cove, around Mt Mortar, dubbed that due to the abundance of Corsola present. However, if they tried to help him he would run away without saying a word with a terrified expression on his face, thus leading the local kids in Mahogany to label him an oddball.

This continued until age 6 during one routine day at Andy's new favorite area. He was busy making little designs in the sand, with his parents watching him while they were lounging around. That is until a Water Ball pokémon popped its head out of the water. The Azurill, as identified by Mr. and Mrs. Richter who still carried pokèdexes just in case, merrily bounced up to the trio with a squeak. This was Andy's first encounter with a pokémon so initially, he recoiled away from it. The Aqua Mouse Pokémon just waved its bouncy tail at him, smiled, and squeaked once more which made Andy more cautious now more than afraid as he reached out to pet the Marill of which it took full comfort in. Bob and Martha saw this and became overjoyed that their bundle of nerves seemed to have taken a shine to a pokémon and potential new friend. After a whole day of play by Andy and his newfound poké-friend, Azurill, the Richters got ready to return to Mahogany Town. Before they left, she squeaked again, waved using that tail of hers, and walked back into the lake.

From then on, Andy slowly became more outgoing. By age 10 thanks to repeated visits to see Azurill, he was at least being more vocal with the Mahogany Town locals, unless it was the first time meeting a person, in that case, he would start out timid but warm up to him or her after a few minutes of conversation. Andy's homeschooling was going well too, he was learning Middle School levels of reading, writing, and math. Though he was homeschooling well, he wasn't as interested as much. His love of nature though never really diminished still wanting to go to places along Johto such as Corsola Cove, Ecruteak City, and Olivine City, as well as keeping an eye on his neighbor's potted plants.

During the year before his 16th birthday, Andy's adventurous side started showing up. He would sneak out during the night to explore the areas around Mahogany; not going too much farther than that because he didn't want to worry his mom and dad, he was very respectful of them after all. He yearned to head to rest of the Johto region to learn about the many cultures and pokémon present throughout with his own pokémon, little did he know they both were planning quite a surprise for him. On his 18th birthday, the parents let him have a chance at his own adventure, before all that though, was the usual happy birthday Andy followed by the birthday cake and presents which included a backpack, a shell bell, a flashlight as well as a very special, secret surprise that Andy's parents decided to keep secret from him, a certain blue mouse. The soon-to-be trainer was very excited about all the goodies until he remembered he still needed a pokémon. Suddenly, he heard a familiar sounding squeak. He lit up like a Blitzle charging up a Thunder attack. He picked up the Aqua Mouse and paraded around the house and hugged it followed by the parents for getting his first real friend. Andy became ecstatic, he now had everything he needed to start his adventure; with that, he bolted out the door with all the gifts and Aquamarine, an affectionate name for his first pokémon, in tow after one last goodbye hug from his parents.

To think this all started upon meeting a tiny little blue mouse.

Things start well enough for him and Aquamarine but soon enough Team Rocket would appear around Olivine City and start stealing pokemon. He wouldn't have left this alone anyway but hearing the pokemon themselves only spurred him into action faster. The pair would try at least trying to free a few pokemon, which doesn't go well barring a Pichu and Togepi getting freed from cages and scurrying away before getting caught by one of the members and put into an unwinnable pokemon battle against a Golbat. She does put up a fair fight but she isn't really any match for the poison type. However, the Rocket member decided to make an example of them and would continue attacking Aqua with poison fangs, even when fainted. This nearly kills her outright, requiring several weeks of TLC as well as a long stay with Nurse Joy in Mahogany Towns pokecenter. As for the 2 pokemon he managed to rescue? They followed and decided to stay with him as a sign of gratitude, he also spends time bonding with those 2 while she heals up.

Sometime later, after Aqua is fully physically healed, Mewtwo pays him a visit, with the offer to join the Retaliators, in spite of his 'reckless behavior' as he put it. Andy would take the offer as he did look to stop Team Rocket as well as some payback for nearly killing Aqua.

  • Whelp, funny thing that Kaede's the outlier here on so many levels with her being:
    • The only female of the bunch (everyone else are male)
    • The only Ranger out of the party (everyone else are trainers)
    • Whose Retaliator form not based on Power Rangers or the like (I'm not a big fan of tokusatsu)

Anywho, here's a random thought: Will Kaede somehow remind Eric of his late girlfriend, I wonder? 🤔
