or it's Aura. Again. Tee hee, it works for so many things, if only because it doesn't take a nature-science approach.

  • Question to keep this thread more active:
Why is it that nearly every Pokemon can use the TM Toxic, and why many pokemon can use moves seemingly impossible, like Aggron being able to use Flamethrower and Thunderbolt.

Considering that all Pokemon are descendants of one common ancestor (Mew, or Arceus if you're talking about Legendaries), an ancestor that had the ability to become a Poison/Electric/Fire-type, modern Pokemon may have vestigal or inactive poison/electric/flame production glands.

I asked a mod to sticky this thread (actually, a cleaned-up version), and haven't gotten a response yet. Maybe it got lost in the flood of PMs I know they get... but I know they check new posts almost immediately, so this way they'll be SURE to see the request.

Well, this could become a religious argument, because asking how Arceus created the Pokemon world is equivalent to asking how God made Earth (Noone respond to this, I dont want a religious debate)

The one difference is that Arceus is a fact, according to the Pokemon world. So Arceus may have the ability to control matter, or change states of matter and energy into different states with willpower, and so Arceus may have used this ability to create the Pokemon world.

Another theory is that Arceus didn't create the Pokemon world, though it's said he did, not everything in the Pokemon world should be considered fact. For example, Machamp's Pokedex entry. So Arceus may just be an extremely powerful Pokemon that has been on the pokemon World for the longest time, or Arceus's species. When seen by early humans they may have recorded what they thought of it, and because of a lack of knowledge they may have come with a theory that Arceus created the Pokemon world. So it may just be a myth blown out of proportion.

  • LOTS OF WORDS LOL

Actually, Arceus itself didn't do anything during the creation period. Palkia made space, Dialga made time, and Kyogre/Groudon/Rayquaza/Regigigas made the Earth.

Based on the current theory of the universe, we are on the surface of a hypersphere floating in 4-dimensional space. Arceus could be an extradimensional Pokemon whose only purpose was to break a hole into our primordial 3-space, thus allowing his other universe-creating buddies to come barging in. With this, he was still technically "the first Pokemon" (from our universe's perspective, at least) and indirectly responsible for creating all matter/Pokemon.

Note that Giratina also has the ability to travel through dimensions at will, and Palkia's Spacial Rend move literally alters the surface of space-time, evidence that the early Legendaries all have some degree of meta-space-manipulating abilities.

    MOAR WORDS

Well I thought that Arceus was the one to create Palkia, Dialga, and maybe Giratina, and then he created Mesprit, Azelf and Uxie. So, in a sense, he had a more direct cause to creating the Pokemon World then just "Hay guys come through this hole to another dimension, and do whatever you want."

  • Ok, I have a quick question. What defines a Pokemon? It seems easy, but when you consider that there are Pokemon which are mutated viruses (Deoxys), possessed dolls (Claydol) and sentient gas (Gastly) it becomes a bit more difficult, considering that some of these things are arguably not even alive.

Muk could also be a giant unicellular blob, a giant amoeba.

Oh, and judging by how fast potions heal, they could be some kind of nanomachine spray that stitches together wounds and accelerates healing on the molecular level, it's the only way I can imagine a totally topical medicine healing the most greivous of wounds.
There is actually some kind of funghi that is one single cell and intelligent. It can spread to quite a big size .

Well, the thing that defines most Pokemon is that their origins can be traced back to Mew, who is the origin of nearly all pokemon. Deoxys may have been formed in the beginning, when Arceus created all the original Pokemon, like Dialga, Palkia, etc. Some of the energy that created those Pokemon may have drifted through space until eventually mutated the virus that has come to be known as Deoxys.

A Pokemon is any being capable of using moves.

Eh, that's just about it right there, Red. Sometimes conventional science can just gtfo when it comes to Pokemon.

But as for the definition of Pokemon:

A Pokemon is a being which uses moves, has known typing (??? could technically fall into this), and if reproduction is known to occur, must also be able to reproduce with other species classified as Pokemon, as per the rules of Egg Grouping. Sudden evolution is common, but not neccesary in a Pokemon.

  • If Mew has a gene from every Pokemon, wouldn't that include Arceus meaning that mew is the true god of POKEMANS?

    Here's the chain of creation:

Arceus→ First Pokemon to appear in our pre-universe
Dialga/Palkia/Giratina→ Created time, space, and a parallel dimension (the other side of the paper)
    Groudon/Kyogre/Rayquaza/Regigias→ Created the Earth
All other Legendaries (excluding Mew)→ Stabilized the Earth, got natural processes running and under control
Mew→ Common ancestor to all non-Legendary Pokemon
All fossil Pokemon→ Divergence of Egg Groups
All modern Pokemon→ Run around and do stuff

Scratch is a physical move. It doesn't count... Would a human be capable of Dream Eater? No. Pokemon are magical.

Magikarp can only learn Splash, Tackle, Flail, and Bounce in DPPt. Humans can do all that stuff, so that means either Magikarp aren't Pokemon, or that Humans are.

Yes, but can a human, flail, tackle, splash, and bounce like a magikarp?
Magikarp is a pokemon, as well as every idea created by, Satoshi Tajiri.

True, but Magikarp do one thing that humans can't: evolve.

Also, see post above mine for further information.
