Willhelm
Will glanced down at the Pidgey in his arms. Cloe, her name is Cloe. She was still unconscious and he had no way of healing her right now; he decided it had best stay inside her PokeBall for the time being. After the PokeBall sucked her up again, he heard noises from the bushes nearby that made him raise his head, alarmed.
"I saw that," a voice said, just before somebody popped out of the bushes. It was a trainer, probably around his teen years. He had big glasses, lots of pimples and long hair and a backpack that made Will think the boy was going to the Trainer's School. The curious newcomer was scrutinizing Rhaegwynn, who returned his stare without flinching. "Pretty cool, how you handled it."
Will chuckled lightly, gracefully refusing to brag about it. "Shouldn't you be at school at this hour?"
"Classes start on the evening. I've taken a special course, you see, I want to become a Bird Keeper." Will thought he heard Rhaegwynn snort, letting out smoke off his nostrils. "I love birds, and you just hurt one, pretty badly," he said, frowning down upon both Will and Rhaegwynn. The two looked at each other and shrugged simultaneously.
"It was worth it," Will said calmly. "Where nature thrives, the wild is a tougher place to live than in the hands of a trainer."
"I don't think so," the young trainer said, grabbing a PokeBall and readying himself.
"Ah," Will said. So that's how you want to play... Will glanced down at Rhaegwynn and gestured towards the young student. The Charmander nodded and took two steps forward, bending his legs and tightening his fists."Let us decide who is right with a battle."
After the blinding flash of the PokeBall that was sent on the ground, a round, green bird was revealed. Will had once drawn one of those as it was sitting on a tree near his home - it was a Natu. Quiet and intelligent flying and psychic-type Pokemon.
"It seems that more birds will get hurt," Will muttered, then ordered, "tackle him, Rhaegwynn."
The Charmander launched at the Natu like a bullet, sticking his head out for a headbutt... the hit never landed, though, as the Natu disappeared from sight. Rhaegwynn rolled on the ground, then immediately got back up, crying out in anger and confusion. His foe was nowhere to be seen. Teleport, Will realized.
"Ha! Bet you didn't see this coming! Night's Shade!" the younger shouted and out of nowhere, Rhaegwynn was hit by a blast that burned purple. He flinched, gritting his jaws, but managed to keep on his feet.
"Hide," Will said, feeling his blood pump and adrenaline flush through him, as if it was him getting hurt. Rhaegwynn did as he was bid, jumping behind the safety of a rock. The blast had left bits of black sparks of energy on his body. I have to work with him, Will realized, looking up at the trees. He spotted the Natu, which was well-concealed behind the leaves. Rhaegwynn, in his confusion and pain, wouldn't have been able to spot him.
"Up there," Will indicated.
"Again! Night's Shade," his opponent shouted as the Charmander jumped on the rock he was hiding behind. The blast missed this time as Rhaegwynn leaped, reaching for a brach; the black energy that was stuck onto his body was fading behind him.
"Teleport!"
The Natu faded, appearing on the ground below Rhaegwynn.
"Not there," the Natu's trainer shouted desperately, "Teleport!"
But the Natu couldn't use Teleport in such a short while. Rhaegwynn leaped down from the branch, landing onto the round bird who cried in pain.
"Punish with Ember," Will said softly, feeling calmer already.
There was a small burst of fire, the Natu engulfed in it. It flapped its small wings, getting away then vanishing mid air. Will saw it reappear a few steps from Rhaegwynn. "Behind you," he shouted, and as the Charmander turned, he was hit by another blast of dark energy. Again, he flinched on his feet, the energy dissipating around him. He remained still for a second, wincing, his eyes half shut and his jaws and fists tightened. The Natu's feathers were smoking from the flames, but he still stood, watching Rhaegwynn calmly. For a moment, Will thought Rhaegwynn was going to faint, but the little Pokemon roared fiercely, launching himself at the Natu again.
The Natu was caught off guard, and weary as it was from the effort of Teleporting around, it was hit full-force, taken down upon the ground. Rhaegwynn roared angrily again, grabbing its beak and spat flames that engulfed the both of them, which faded out in embers; the Natu stopped squirming and just fainted, but Rhaegwynn kept going. He spat more flames, his eyes glowing with an animal rage.
"No!" the youngster cried out, "get off of him!" He raised his arm, using the PokeBall to suck the Natu back in.
Rhaegwynn was left panting, staring intently at the trainer. The blasts he had suffered had left bruises on his little body, but he seemed to want to keep going. The way he looked at the trainer made Will think he would attack him too. Such power, Will thought, quite unsettled, I need to control it. It will be no easy task, but I can't have a Charizard that aims to kill in every battle.
"Get that monster away from me!" the young student shouted in fear. Will did what he said and walked away, wondering if Rhaegwynn was the type of Pokemon he would like to do battle with.
