Aberdeen Montany, Melody Hughes, Vincent Baker
joint post chapter 4 : Ruins Of Alph

Rather quickly, the trio found a family from the tourist group huddled together behind a wall near the large hall they had come from. Melody urgently directed them back to the tour guide who was still waiting by those stairs, but they realized that there were people who had run even further into the corridors of the ruins, probably shocked by the chaos during the lightning strike. The trio had to keep going down another set of stairs, this time leading down into a much darker hall, whose pillars were still intact.

"We're probably a whole level below the room where the lightning struck now," Aberdeen commented, squinting to see anything at all with only the faint light from cracks in the walls to shed light on the view.

"You're not afraid of the dark, I hope?" he added, turning to Melody with a concerned look. He didn't ask Vincent, because that guy really didn't seem to be the type to be afraid of anything. Despite what Ab had said earlier to make him join them.

Melody glanced over at Aberdeen, a weak smile on her face. "What? Of course not, Ab! This is just like walkin' to the bathroom at night after drinkin' too much water or somethin' before bed."

Truth be told, the whole situation was starting to get Melody a bit on edge. The atmosphere in the ruins was less than desirable at this point, especially consdiering the fact that the tour guide had informed the trio that they would be heading into a much more unstable section of them. The fact that it was gradually getting darker and spookier was doing nothing to calm the girl's nerves, Still, she all she had to do was remember that she was not alone and then Melody would be pretty sure that everything would be okay... for the most part anyways.

Aberdeen let out a light laughter. "Of course, sorry. Just checking. I'm not afraid either. Well, unless ghosts pop up. Haha." His last laughter sounded a bit more nervous and less real, but he shaped up quickly. "Not that ghosts are real anyways. I mean."

"What about you, Vinny? You holdin' up okay?" Melody asked, glancing up at the older boy.

"I've been better in far worse situations," Vincent admitted. "This is nothing," he said gesturing as if tossing the whole thing aside. Truth be told, he was more frustrated that he got dragged into helping out lost little birds in the ruins. The venture would hopefully prove to be worth his while at some point. But Vincent did have any idea to help him pass the time. Aberdeen's nervous laughter did not go unnoticed. A fear of ghosts was all he needed to have a little fun despite the chore heaved upon his shoulders. The hall they were walking down was dark and dreary, something a good flash of light could fix, but to his knowledge none of their Pokemon was capable of illuminating the caves.

That was perfect.

"Hey. Wait a minute. Do you guys see something up ahead? I could of sworn I heard something," Vincent said, pointing ahead. Hoping that the distraction would capture their attention, he hung back allowing Aberdeen and Melody to "investigate."

"Really? I didn't hear anything," Ab said. "But maybe it was some more tourists. Let's go!"

As Aberdeen seemed to be distracted, Vincent quietly dropped the Pokeball with Excalibur in it, releasing the ghost Pokemon. Vincent whispered a few orders to the Honedge, which seemed to revel in the idea of torturing a poor human. Vincent crept slowly with hampered movements behind Ab with the Honedge looming around its head with a ghastly aura, as if the ghost had possessed Vincent. A low growl rumbled from Vincent's throat. "Brains..."

Aberdeen turned around at that, an eyebrow raised since he didn't doubt that the growl came from Vincent. But a creepy eye and a gleaming blade met him in the dark, making him jump and scream as if his voice had never broken through puberty.

As he stumbled backwards towards the letter-filled wall of the corridor they were in, one of the pokéballs on his belt shuddered and cracked open. Out came his own Honedge, pulling out from her sheath immediately and taking a stance in the air between Aberdeen and Vincent that could be mistaken for protective. In reality, the female Honedge just hadn't quite accepted that she was a captured pokémon yet and had been ready to spring out from the pokéball at any significant notion. She had only gotten in by convenience outside the ruins, after all.

But to the humans, it certainly looked like she was defending her trainer now.

As the opposing Honedge took a defensive stance, Vincent was roaring with laughter. The entire thing went better than he imagined. "Haha. What a twerp! Hahaha, the look on your face. Priceless!" Vincent simply fell back and laughed his heart out, completely ignoring the surrounding events.

Ab's heart was pounding still, while Vincent laughed. Finally, he stood up straight again and sighed with a frown. "Yeah, you really scared me. Great fun."

He had no trouble admitting that, but he wasn't going to relay just how cold the SHIVER along his spine had been when he saw Excalibur's gleam after the growling. Ghosts... He felt a bit nauseous even, but he shook it away, determined not to give Vincent even more to laugh about, or worry Melody for that matter. He hadn't really realized what the implications of his own Honedge being part ghost type could mean. The pokémon whirred impatiently just in front of him.

Luckily, Aberdeen did not have to worry about Melody being worried. It was at that exact moment, that the sight of her familiar, sneaker-covered foot came down, jamming right into the toes of Vincent's own in a particularly forceful manner. There was a rather annoyed glance on the girl's face, one unlike she had worn around the boy up until this moment.

"How was that funny?! He could have hurt himself when he fell like that!" Melody began to scold, giving the boy as fierce of a glare as she could possibly muster... which probably did not say a great deal. "Don't you rermember what the tour guide said?! A lot of these ruins are very unstable, Vinny! The next time you feel like making a joke, can you let it wait until we're somewhere safer?!"

Melody briskly brushed past Vincent, making her way towards Aberdeen with concern. "You okay, Ab? Nothin' hurt, right?"

"No, I'm good, I'm all good," Aberdeen said and snapped himself back out from his thoughts. "We should really try to find the rest of the tour group before another lightning strikes down or something. Right?" Or before real ghosts appear, he thought before he pushed the thought aside at last and decided that the two sword pokémon in front of him were just pokémon.

Noticing the eerie but somewhat illuminating glow his Honedge gave out, he suddenly grasped her hilt like he had done before. She stiffened, if it's possible for a pokémon made mostly of metal to stiffen even more, but Aberdeen shooshed her and patted her sheath calmingly. "We're soon out of this," he mumbled to his pokémon. "Just need a bit of your glow to light the way."

Vincent was still recoiling at the feeling of his foot being crushed by the surprising amount of force of Melody's stomp. He gingerly returning to his feet, teeth grinding in frustration as he glared at Melody. There was a stern desire to return the favor, to exact revenge upon her much like he did to Aberdeen. He had the feeling that he had to reassert his authority; to remind them who he was. But there would be a time to pay his debts later. For now, he would return to the task at hand. The sooner the tourists were freed, the better. Vincent plowed to the front of the group and lead the way (though he didn't have any idea where they were going). Aberdeen's fearful nature and Melody's jabbering wouldn't get them anywhere. Vincent. He would get them places. He had that ability.

Aberdeen and Melody followed him without more fuss for now. It wasn't long until the trio stumbled into the rest of the tour group at last. Apparently they had run screaming way too far into the ruins when the lightning struck, but now they were being led by a sturdy lady in her 50's who forced everyone to hold hands and carefully walk together to find the entrance. She reluctantly annouced that her group was allowed to drop each other's hands, when Aberdeen and the others directed them to the brighter hall above.

The trio waited until they were sure that no one was left behind before they started to follow the tourists back.

Except that all of a sudden, they were only two. Aberdeen and Vincent. Aberdeen spun around and waved Honedge in the darkness behind them until she whirred of irritation.

"Where did Melody go?" he almost screamed, grabbing Vincent's shoulder with his left hand to stop him. "She was right here!"

Blossom, who had been walking along side of Chespin this whole time, suddenly spun around with wide eyes at the sound of Aberdeen's worried voice. She quickly stepped forward, her little leaf spinning around as her head jerked in all sorts of directions. However, no matter which way the little Chikorita looked... Melody was no where to be found.

She quickly looked up at the two boys, a series of worried and hasty sounding chirps flying out of the small Chikorita's mouth. It was very evident that Blossom was beyond worried by this sudden turn of events. Her small body began shaking with fear over the fact that her trainer was no where to be seen.

Vincent swung back and threw Aberdeen's arm off his shoulder. He simply glared at the panicked Aberdeen and was tempted to slap the kid upside his head. "Okay. First thing about being in my presence, don't touch me. Secondly, why are you all jittery? She probably just went to the bathroom or something.--?

"Bathroom?" Aberdeen spat. "There's no bathroom in the ruins, you... You..." He let go of Honedge, clenched his fists and closed his eyes for two seconds to not say something bad. He wasn't usually the one to get angry and emotional; he had left that behind after grieving for his sister. Vincent just had a way of really making him mad.

Instead, when Ab opened his eyes again, he noticed the shivering little Chikorita on the floor and bent down to gently pet her.

"Don't worry, Blossom," he said. "We'll find out where she went."

He turned around and gave Honedge a glance that obviously meant 'light the way for me and don't dare saying no'. She didn't like that authoritative look, but really didn't want to stay here alone with the other boy and his Honedge, so she followed Aberdeen after all, as he started walking in the opposite direction from the rest of the tour group.

"Vincent," he called without turning back. "Wanna go look for the bathrooms in these ruins, then?"

Meanwhile, Melody had something wrapped around her head, covering her mouth so that she couldn't get a scream or angry word out. The something was strong, warm... hairy? And sort of wet or sweaty. Really nasty to have over your mouth. It was too dark to see anything, but Melody was beeing carried by a number of strong hands, her back down. Was the thing over her mouth a thin arm? Or a... tail?

A sudden burst of light forced her to close her eyes after having been in darkness for a while. When she blinked and could see again, she discovered that she was in a brighter room, stone walls having many cracks and holes in them, and she wasn't at all alone. Countless Smeargle surrounded her in the center of the room as she was set down on her feet, finally. All of them were waving their colorful tails with hostile or victorious glares in their eyes.

Melody stared wide eyed at all the rather angry looking Smeargle. She was not sure what they were so angry about, not to mention the fact that they had decided to abduct her away from Vincent, Aberdeen, and Blossom. Melody did not have long to think about the how or why all this happened before she was dropped rather roughly onto the floor. One of the creature's tail was still wrapped rather tightly around her mouth, keeping the girl silenced... much to her dismay. Another one of the creatures joined in by wrapping its tail around her torso, effectively pinning the girl's arms to her sides.

Melody squirmed helplessly in her bound position, trying to somehow slip free of their grasp. The Smeargle's seemed to be strong enough to hold the girl down though, and all it took to stop Melody's struggling was a dripping, green, paint-covered tail being pointed just inches from her face.

chapter 5 ; ROUTE 32

Spoiler:
Route 32 leads south from Violet and Ruins of Alph, ending at the entrance to Union Cave, where a Pokémon Center sits neatly placed for weary travelers. It's a fairly long route with much forest, cliffs and ledges lining the curvy road. It's not one of the most traveled paths of Johto, but there are some hikers and campers here, and in the middle of the road is a famous fishing bridge with some sheds and boats, where bored fishermen are sure to want to challenge trainers in the gloomy rain.

You can only trigger Event 2 if you trained in the Pokémon Academy of Violet and received an Ultra Ball!

Weather - more or less RAINY with a chance of WIND

Wild pokémon: They are all at Lv 12.

Only through Event 1:

Events: Yeah, you have to choose between the two. Max 4 players in one event, and you don't all have to JP together.

1) Befriend a fisherman through a battle or other means. He'll give you an Old Rod and teach you how to fish. If you don't do this event, there will be a few pokémon in upcoming chapters that you can't capture on your own. Until you find another way to get a rod in the future, of course.

2) You meet some trainers who have some kind of trouble with a really strong wild pokémon. It's a pokémon that has evolved once, but is still on lv 12. Using your Ultra Ball, you manage to capture it for your own! If you are several players doing this event, there will be several evolved pokémon.

Extra event) For those camping out (that's all of us tbh, since there's no way anyone would make it to the pokémon center before nightfall on this long route) at some time during the night, shadowy figures that don't show their faces turn up and somehow kidnap one of your pokémon. At least one pokémon per camp gets taken. Johto is dangerous these days, more so than you might think...

Aberdeen Montany, Melody Hughes, Vincent Baker
joint post chapter 4 : Ruins Of Alph

"What exactly are we looking for?" Vincent said, following Aberdeen's self righteous lead. Obviously, the answer was Melody, but he hoped Aberdeen was not going to try to be sarcastic with his far blunter tongue. Vincent was the one with the wit and the ability to talk with the best of them. It was years of practice that allowed him to hone that craft. Aberdeen was younger, naive and reeked with...weakness. It was all Vincent could muster in his hardened mind.

"I mean, we are blinder than bats in here," he finally said. "We are better off telling the guides and getting some police or someone in here." Vincent's suggestion was earnest, but he had a feeling Aberdeen was going to protest. The kid did it before. "And it's not because I'm scared. It's because that is what smart people would do."

Ab still held his grumpy Honedge in front of him like an eerie torch, Blossom walking nervously so close to his feet that he almost stumbled over her now and then. At Vincent's words, he glanced back.

"It might take a while to get back and make guards come down here. Melody just disappeared and we didn't see any hole in the ground or anything..." Suddenly, he raised an eyebrow thoughtfully. "Maybe she really, really needed to pee and ran off without telling us because it was embarrassing? Uh, no, wait, she would probably have replied when we called out for her," he added quickly, shaking his head.

"Nah, she's not the sharpest knife in the drawer. She'd run off and do something dumb without telling us squat," Vincent said, almost trying to reassure Aberdeen. He yawned and stretched a bit. "She'll pop out eventually, but at least you are admitting that I could be right. It's about damn time ya know?" Vincent leered with a large smirk painted across his face, gloating in his empty victory.

"You really like being right, don't you?" Ab asked with a crooked smile. It seemed like, in this matter, him and Vincent couldn't be more different. Aberdeen had never really tried to fight to be 'right' about things. Maybe he should start? It seemed to make Vincent feel pretty good.

Vincent nodded with his face twisted in thought. "I guess I do. Then again, I have yet to really be wrong about anything. If you went through what I had to go through, you'd learn you were right or you were done. There was no in between," Vincent answered, offering more information than he intended. "Anyway, we ain't getting anywhere wandering in circles. Let's circle back. Maybe she turned up at the entrance. Or she's being stupid and looking for us."

Aberdeen found himself wondering what the other guy meant by those words. But he just sighed. "Don't call her stupid," he muttered, but turned around as to show he agreed on Vincent's plan.

He quickly spun around again though, having seen something in the corner of his eye. Blossom froze and hid behind Aberdeen's legs. "Something moved at the end of the corridor! Did you see that, Honedge?"

"What are you on about? I didn't see anything," Vincent dismissed Aberdeen. He was probably being paranoid. The kid clearly had a knack for it. Vincent dropped his own Honedge out of its ball, allowing Excalibur to float around next to Ab's Honedge. If Aberdeen happened to be right about something, he wouldn't let him steal the opportunity to gloat.

Seeing that Vincent let his own pokémon out, Ab nodded and dashed towards the corner in front of them. As he turned around it, he saw yet another corridor, but this one with glimpses of light coming in from holes in the roof. And right in front of him, startled by suddenly being discovered for spying, stood a pokémon looking like it was wearing a hat and a paint brush.

Vincent followed quickly behind, but Ab's sudden stop hardly impeded the movement of Vincent as he plowed right through the smaller boy without much difficulty. Vincent collasped to the ground, laying all over Aberdeen, who couldn't help letting out an involuntary scream again. Recollecting himself, Vincent perked his head up a tad and noticed the strange little Pokemon standing above them.

"What the heck are you?" Hardly budging and half suffocating Aberdeen, Vincent reached into his pocket and pulled out his Pokedex. "Smeargle? Ew. That Pokemon seems about as useful as a Chespin."

Finally struggling loose from underneath the bigger guy, with a little help from Blossom, Aberdeen ignored the comment about his starter pokémon and slumped against the wall panting just as the Smeargle began to sort of shout violently at Vincent, waving his tail about like a weapon in his hand.

"It was spying on us!" Aberdeen said. "Running ahead of us behind the corners. You..." He pointed at the wild pokémon accusingly. "You saw where Melody went, didn't you? Our friend, a girl!"

"You do realize that it can't answer you right? All it can say is its name," Vincent reminded Aberdeen. "It's not like it's going to speak to us in human speak or whatever. It's a dumb Pokemon."

Aberdeen's Honedge was now hovering in the air above her 'trainer' and at Vincent's words she narrowed one of her eyes at the older boy, clearly in disgust. Surprisingly, the Smeargle just started to laugh.

Vincent motioned for Excalibur to attack the Smeargle with his hands and the ghost Pokemon made a bold lunge for the strange Pokemon that Aberdeen so foolishly tried to talk to. The Smeargle nimbly dodged the rushed attack and bolted away from the two trainers.

"Hey. Get back here! My...friend here has some questions!" Vincent rolled off the ground and chased down the wild Pokemon, yelling vulgar insults as he jetted down the dark corridors, barely keeping the Smeargle within his vision. Aberdeen and the Chikorita followed, the female Honedge buzzing after them in the air.

Farther in the ruins, things were so dreadfully quiet that you could hear a pin drop. Melody had not budged a singe inch since she became the prisoner of the Smeargle horde. She simply sat their, tails wrapped around her body and mouth with wide eyes at the threat of having a new makeup job applied to her face. The silence of the winding halls was brought to an end however, at the sound of small, pattering feet.

Melody looked up just in time to see another Smeargle running towards her and the rest of the horde. A rather panicked expression graced its features, as it quickly skidded to a stop before its allies and began to point wildly behind it. Melody glanced up in the direction the Smeargle was pointing, a happy grunt escaping her tail-covered lips as she spotted Aberdeen, Blossom, and Vincent all running into the area. She began to squirm and fidget wildly, trying her best to get the attention of the boys and her Chikorita.

"What's going on?" Ab exclaimed, at first only seeing the many Smeargle giving him scared or angry stares and shaking their tails at the intruders. But then he spotted the prisoner. "Melody! Are you alright?"

Melody merely gave Aberdeen a small, slightly annoyed glance. She was being held prisoner by wild Smeargle, threatened by their paint-tipped tails, and she couldn't even speak. The girl honestly wondered why her new friend would even ask such a question.

Two Smeargle with blue tails started moving towards him, and as if it had become a reflex, or at least instinct now, Aberdeen reached for the pokéballs at his belt and let all of his pokémon out. Chespin, Whismur and Pidgey materialized in the small space on the dusty floor between the boy and the oncoming pokémon, making the two Smeargle hesitate. Pidgey scoffed at the horde around them, Whismur started shivering at the sight, and Chespin assessed the situation and put on a goofy smile as if he was unphased by the fact that they faced an army of paintbrushes. Meanwhile, Honedge still lurked behind the humans, not sure if she should turn and abandon this crazy group when she had the chance, or stay and watch things unfold.

"Nice group of friends you've made, Melody." Vincent wasn't too pleased with the fact that a horde of Smeargle had captured Melody or the fact they bothered to defend their idol. He wasn't about to complain though. After all, now he could fight his way through them. Vincent followed Ab's lead and released his other Pokemon with Hanzo and Brian joining Exaclibur.

"Brian, use Sand attack! Hanzo, Water Pulse! And Exaclibur, Metal Sound!"

"Wait, don't attack!" Ab called out. "We should talk to them first!"

But Brian send a massive wave of sand at the horde of Smeargle in general, filling the whole area with sand. Hanzo fired it's Water Pulse into the center of the cloud, hoping to hit something. Meanwhile, the freshest catch in his Honedge, used Metal Sound to weaken any survivors for Vincent's next attack.

Aberdeen sighed. And here he had been called rash. Vincent could be so careless it made Aberdeen angry, he was starting to realize. Well, better let that anger fuel him if fighting their way out of this was what they needed to do.

However, it was none of the two boys Pokémon that attacked next. Rather it was the familiar, yet angry sounding chirps that echoed into the room that grabbed Melody's, as well as several of the Smeargle's, attention. Little Blossom was clearly not pleased with the state that her trainer was in, and clearly she was not about to sit on the sidelines when Melody needed her most! In an angry fury, the little Chikorita bounced forward, sending a blast of familiar, razor sharp, leaves swriling into the fray of the Smeargle horde.

Melody's eyes widened at the display. The girl had never seen her Chikorita so worked up before! Slowly glancing to her sides, she noticed that the two Smeargle which held her seemed a bit... distracted by the display before them. A small smile graced Melody's wrapped lips.

"Alright... Time for me to get in on some of the action too..." the girl thought.

She began to squirm ever so slightly in the tails which held her, managing to get one of her hands to make it to her belt where her Pokéballs were resting. Taking hold of one of the balls, Melody managed to slip it out to the ground, which caused the Taillow resting inside to be freed. Needless to say, this caused the Smeargle around her to return their focus to the girl, but by this point it was too late. Melody managed to wriggle about more, slipping past the tail which had been wrapped around her mouth.

"Hawk! Help me out of this mess with Steel Wing!" the girl managed to shout.

Hawk squawked in agreement. The bird began to sore overhead, before quickly diving towards the Smeargles which held Melody prisoner. The Taillow's wing began to shine, as if it was made from a solid sheet of metal, before he slammed it into both of the Smeargle's heads, one right after the other. This caused the grip the wild Pokémon had on Melody to loosen considerably. With one more struggle, the girl managed to break free of the tails completely.

Meanwhile, Aberdeen hadn't even noticed that Melody had freed herself. Smeargle were throwing themselves at Vincent and his gang, and Ab was determined to keep focused and not get overwhelmed.

"Pidgey, keep them at a distance with Gust!"

Just as the closest Smeargle leaped up, Pidgey's Gust forced two of them back down onto the ground. A third broke through and threw itself over Chespin though. Aberdeen stood only a meter away from his pokémon, and his first instinct was to kick off the Smeargle himself. Luckily, he didn't do that though.

"Chespin, Bite!"

Darkly teeth in the midst of the struggling ball of fur that was Chespin and Smeargle bit down onto the long paintbrush tail and made the wild pokémon squeal and release the grass type.

Suddenly, Whismur bumped into Aberdeen's leg from behind. Ab turned around and realized that Whismur had stopped two Smeargle by Astonishing them on his own accord. Giving a quick pet on the head to his little bunny, Ab quickly spun around again and saw Pidgey struggling with the two Smeargle she had blown away earlier.

"Pidgey, confuse them with Sand Attack!" Aberdeen called out, having seen the move being effective on them when used by Vincent earlier.

Pidgey obeyed and managed to splash sand from the floor up into the face of Chespin's opponent as well. That gave Chespin a great opportunity to lift the wild pokémon up in one leg with Vine Whip and slam it into the other two.

But Whismur was squeaking and tugging the leg of Aberdeen's trousers, making him turn his attention back to that side again. Four Smeargle were now approaching that way. Too much, Aberdeen found himself thinking. They are too many. Unless he used Uproar now, which might be a really bad idea considering Melody and Vincent and their pokémon being near as well, plus the building around them being really unstable... Pidgey hovered anxiously above his head and Chespin and Whismur backed closer to their trainer as the wild pokémon kept forcing them into a corner, some with grins on their faces and the paintbrush tails swinging threateningly.

"Vincent!" Aberdeen called out, but when he really looked out over the gloomy room they were in, he spotted another figure standing on top of some rubble, clearly not being captured. At least not anymore. "Melody!"

Aberdeen's murmurs were basically muffled as far as Vincent was concerned. He was caught in the heat of battle with the Smeargles surrounding him. He figured they did not enjoy that he barged right in and attacked them without a second thought. Not that he was complaining. Vincent continued with this very basic but seemingly effective strategy. Exaclibur continued to barrage the Smeargles as they approached. The ear grating sound waves punctured their ears, weakening them as they crowded Vincent and his team. As the Smeargles wavered in their attacks and their defenses down, Brian then buffeted them with Sand attacks, further confusing them. Any stragglers that came through the cloud of sand and dirt were pelted by Hanzo's pinpoint Water Pulses and Bubbles, having already felt the wrath of the others. One by one, the Smeargles fell. The metal sounds grow louder and louder as Exaclibur grow progressively angry in the battle. Brian's wings fluttered furiously as he kicked up enough sand to fill the entire caverns. Hanzo shot down Smeargle after Smeargle as they dove through the clouds to pin down Vincent and his team of warriors. Vincent was pleased with the teamwork that his three Pokemon displayed, but the waves of Pokemon seemed endless as Smeargle after Smeargle emerged through the defenses that Vincent and his team mocked up in a few short minutes. Despite his confidence brimming, Vincent could sense the fatigue of his Pokemon as they stood their ground.

Damn it. This is getting frustrating, Vincent mentally noted. I'm tempted to kick my way through them and get the hell out of here. Vincent looked around for a way out, hoping to find some beacon of hope. However, what he found instead was Melody standing on some rubble, somehow having freed herself. "That's our chance, guys!" He called out to his team. "Hanzo! Brian! Make a path for us!" The two Pokemon nodded at each other, as the two friends went in sync. Hanzo used a quick attack to shift from his defensive stance near Vincent to slicing through a few Smeargle to take the lead. Brian followed suit, mimicking the frog Pokemon with his own winged variant of the Quick Attack. He kept a few feet back, giving Hanzo much needed back up in case any Smeargle dared ruin their advance. Vincent took a few strides to hang back, ducking and diving through the crowd of Smeargle as Hanzo and Brian knocked any daring Smeargles back into the arms of their follow Pokemon. Exaclibur silently floated behind them, echoing the Metal Sounds of earlier to keep the bulk of the Smeargle army at bay.

Vincent panted as he finally reached Melody. "We're getting out of here! Now!"

Not to be outdone by Vincent's own team, Hawk and Blossom did their part to work together and aid in the rescue of their trainer. Hawk continued to swoop down, slamming Steel Wing after Steel Wing into various Smeargles that happened to be scattered about the room. Blossom on the other hand tagged right behind Vincent as the boy made his way towards Melody. The little Chikorita acted as if she was some sort of bodyguard for the boy, eventually charging ahead of him to tackle any members of the Smeargle horde that tried to jump out and get in his way.

Melody smiled brightly at the sight. The girl hopped off the the pile of rubble and quickly, not to mention surprisingly, hugged Vincent tightly. Vincent was caught completely offguard, but did little to push the girl off. All he found himself doing was raise an eyebrow and held his arms awkwardly in the air, looking for something to distract himself from the whole display.

"I... I'm so totally sorry! I dunno what even happened! One minute I was following behind you guys and then the next these Pokémon grabbed hold of me and drug me off! I tried to get free so I could get back, but... but..." Melody began to ramble. Her cheeks quickly blushed as she realized she was still holding onto Vincent. The girl quickly released her grasp around the boy and looked away, a deep blush gracing her cheeks. "Um... T-That is, um... Thanks for helpin' me, Vinny... I was... really, really scared..."

The familiar chirping of Blossom caught Melody's attention. The girl looked down at her Chikorita, who beamed proudly. Clearly the little grass-type was proud of the work she had done in aiding the boys in finding her trainer. Melody smiled at the sight, bending down to pet her gently on the head.

"Good work, Blossom... I knew I could count on ya," Melody told the Chikorita with a small, sincere smile.

"Well, if we are done being all sappy and stuff, we need to get out of here. I'm tired of fighting these dumbass Pokemon and their paintbrushes," Vincent urged Melody.

Melody nodded and together with Vincent and Blossom, she began to make an escape back towards Aberdeen and the rest of their Pokémon. However, that's when it appeared. The chaos of the room quickly fell into complete silence. All the Smeargles of the horde which had yet to be taken out fell quiet, the Pokémon all turning and staring with what seemed to be awe on their usually dopey looking faces.

Before them stood... another Smeargle. However, there was something different about this one. For starters, it looked to be a bit taller than those who were already gathered in the room. The tip of its tail was dipped in a reddish colored paint. Its body had several scratches and scars, decorating the Smeargle as if it were some kind of high ranking warrior.

Melody gave the Smeargle a curious glance, before looking over at Vincent. "Um... Is that supposed to be an important one or somethin'? It seems kind of odd they just all... got quiet when that one showed up."

"He doesn't look that tough," Vincent smirked. "I take it as if I beat him up then I can get out of this dump." Vincent cracked his knuckles and snapped his neck back in place. "Brian. Knock it out with quick attack!" The Pidgey swooped in and dived directly at the Smeargle boss, aiming for an even quicker finish.

"Hawk! Follow through with a Quick Attack too!" Melody called out.

Hawk swooped down as orded, following behind Vincent's Pidgey in an attempt to completely overpower the Pokémon. The Smeargle seemed to remain perfectly calm, however. It took hold of its tail, pointing it forward at the two bird Pokémon before suddenly an electrifying blast of lightning shot forth from the tip. The bolt quickly zapped its way towards Brian and Hawk, clashing with both of the birds to give them both the shock of their lives!

"Hawk!" Melody cried out as both the birds began to fall from the sky towards the ground below. The girl quickly took her Tailow's Pokéball, withdrawing him just in time before he would have hit the hard floor of the ruins. "How did it do that? I didn't think Smeargle was an electric type!"

Vincent felt his teeth grind as he silently withdrew the defeated Pidgey, following Melody's lead. "I take it Smeargles can copy moves or something." Vincent looked at Excalibur and Hanzo. "We are going to need a plan."

All the wild Smeargle had turned their attention to the larger one, including the ones that had been cornering Aberdeen. Looking to his side, Ab realized that if he was really quiet, he could sneak away and reach the way they had come. He could escape!

Of course, he would never do that when his buddies (or whatever Vincent could be called) were still in trouble here. So instead, he decided it was time for the plan he had scrapped earlier. Hopefully it would yield more useful chaos than deal damage to themselves.

Bending down carefully, he whispered in Whismur's ear: "Uproar, buddy."

All the nerves that had kept the bunny shaking for the last couple of minutes were now rapidly released into one critical attack. With only Chespin and Aberdeen covering their ears in time, and Pidgey doing what she could to motion to Honedge to fly up and away from the horrible, resonating screeches that the tiny creature gave out, the scene was suddenly turned upside down.

The Smeargles all began to squirm and fidget as the loud, wailing, screeching Whismur began to unleash his ear-destroying, sound-based attack. Aberdeen looked quickly at the different parts of the scene in front of him. The wild pokémon were confused, but so were likely Vincent and Melody too, if not in pain even. Well, probably. The good thing was that nobody was really prepared for any kind of attack right now. But Aberdeen had pokémon who were.

Honedge seemed annoyed rather than hurt, where she and Pidgey hovered in the air close to the ceiling. How rude of the human boy to release something like this all of a sudden! But what had annoyed her the most ever since she entered the room silently behind the rash boy and his companions was the fact that a horde, a full horde of Smeargle were nesting so close to what she had previously called her own territory. Well, she still called it her own territory. She was just in a pretty peculiar situation right now, with this boy and his magic sphere and all. The only thing she was clear of at this point was that the Whismur deserved a distinct slap later, and that the big fat Smeargle towering over the other two humans deserved a distinct slap right now.

As Whismur's uproar finally began to fade, the large Smeargle was visibly angry compared to its composed demeanor earlier, but just as it recovered, something hit it hard in the back of its head. It stumbled forward, half stunned from surprise. Behind it, an angry Honedge whirred in the air after a well aimed Tackle.

"AB! Next time you do something like that, warn me!" Vincent roared in the general direction at Aberdeen, his ears ringing. Unable to gauge the volume of his voice only added to the anger that seethed from his voice. Hanzo also leered at Aberdeen, clearly not pleased with the young boy and cotninuing to be in sync with his trainer as always. Both shook their heads and unclogged their ears and glared at the Smeargle boss, gauging the field.

Melody cupped her hands with her ears. She was grateful... and slightly annoyed at the same time. At the very least, Aberdeen had managed to get the Smeargle king's attention off of Blossom, Vincent, and herself. Taking note of this turn of events, the girl glanced down at her daze Chikorita, gently tapping her shoulder to try and get her attention.

"E-Easy, Blossom..." Melody whispered, still feeling as if she had a slight ringing noise in her ears. "I know you're a bit... well, probably a lot annoyed right now. "But this is the moment we need! Go in there and charge that Smeargle with all you got!"

Blossom shook her head, manaing to regain her most of hercomposure before chirping in agreement with Melody's command. The Chikorita began to dash forward, clearly taking advantage of the distracted state of all the Smeargle. However as Blossom dashed forward, Melody began to notice something... different about the Chikorita.

"Is she... Why is she glowin' like that?" Melody wondered.

Her eyes went wide as a bright light errupted forth, completely engulfing Blossom as she moved. The light began to slowly grow bigger, causing Melody to shield her eyes. Then, almost as soon as it had started, the light faded. Slowly, Melody lowered her arm, gasping at the sight of a larger, unknown Pokémon slamming her body into the Smeargle king with great power.

From his corner of the hall, Aberdeen witnessed the event and understood exactly what was happening at last. The smeargle around him were unsure of whether to focus on their suddenly happy enemy or glance nervously back at their king.

"W-What... What is that?" Melody whispered, staring at the Pokémon in wonder. "Wait, where's... is that... Blossom?!"

Upon hearing her name, Blossom slowly looked up and smiled proudly at Melody. She took a small step forward, turning her back to the Smeargle king to give her trainer a special little pose, as if showing off the fact that she had not only managed to deal a rather nasty blow to the leader of the Smeargle horde, but she had managed to do with class by evolving!

"...Oh... my... GAWD! THIS IS SO COOL!" Melody practically shouted in amazement.

The Smeargle king regained it's composure soon enough, picking itself off the ground and leering at the evolved Blossom with disdain. It's red painted tail glowed and glowed, gaining more and more power with each passing second. There was a fiery aura around. Vincent almost immediately figured out what it was doing. So it can copy moves. And it knows Blossom's weakness. Just like it did with Brian and her bird thing. Vincent wasn't exactly sure what to do for a brief second, but it dawned on him. It's a foolish slip up on Vincent's part to be fair. Then again, it was a long day. Hanzo was a water type. He could easily deflect this attack and soften up the Smeargle for Blossom, the now much stronger Pokemon, to finish off the Pokemon. Vincent didn't like that fact. He'd have to train much harder to regain his pride.

"Hanzo? Where did you go?" Vincent looked around his feet and couldn't find his Pokemon. Vincent was worried. Did the same thing happen to Hanzo that happened to Melody? No. Hanzo wasn't stupid. Did he get beat? No. Hanzo was tougher than that. The Smeargle's attack flourished in a bright flame. It was ready to launch. Blossom wasn't going to dodge that. The Smeargle took aim with what appear to be some sort of small fire blast. But then, a bright flash of light seemed to strike the Smeargle with blinding speed and accuracy. The Smeargle went down on the ground, it's body limp on the ground before sitting up dazed and bruised. Looming over the Smeargle and then looking back at Vincent was a taller, thinner and more refined frog-like Pokemon.

"Hanzo?" The Pokemon nodded and copied Vincent's intense smirk. Vincent looked over at Melody. "Looks like Hanzo copied your little trick."

"Well, I always heard it was better to be a leader, Vinny!" Melody replied. The girl felt a lot more confident about their situation now. With both Hanzo and Blossom being evolved, there was no way that they were going to lose against the Smeargle king and its horde now. She returned her focus to her Bayleef, giving the Pokémon a broad smile. "Alright, Blossom! It's time to finish this thing! Blast it with your Razor Leaf!"

Blossom jumped back, smiling widely as she did so. The leaves around her neck began to spin around quickly, before they flew of in a furious storm. They cut straight towards the over-sized Smeargle, slicing at him with the same, razor-sharp edges as always!

Aberdeen's Honedge was still there in the heat of things and decided that the evolved pokémon wouldn't have all the fun for themselves. She let out an ear-piercing sound that sounded a bit like a metallic version of Whismur's trademark attack, but of course it was much more elegant. Metal Sound didn't hurt everyone in the room, but was directed at the largest Smeargle and the minions around him, making him much less defensive against the next oncoming attack.

"Let's finish this then! Hanzo, use Water Pulse!" Vincent yelled seeing that the Smeargle was taken aback from Blossom's flurry and Honedge's noises. Hanzo charged up energy in his mouth and launched an aquatic pulse of energy, colliding with the Smeargle launching into the cavern walls. Despite the fury of the battle around them, the room for a moment fell silent.

The Smeargle king stood no chance against the combined attack. And when he fell, so did apparently the spirit of the rest of the horde. In the nick of time, Aberdeen would have said. Chespin, Whismur and Pidgey had kept trying to hold back the Smeargle with various attacks, but all of them had ended up tied with tails over their mouths to prevent them from calling out for help. Not that the war-blinded Vincent and Melody would have listened to their cries anyways, Aberdeen thought as they were finally released now when the wild Smeargle instead hurried to their leader's side and carried him away through some other corridor. The humans and their pokémon were now alone in the room at last.

The three trainers made their way back to the entrance of the ruins, where they were met by security guards and an endlessly worried tour guide who talked incoherently all the way back to the museum at the edge of the Alph area. There though, he went away for a minute and then came back, shoving glittering, colorful stones in each of Vincent's, Aberdeen's and Melody's hands. Apparently they were valuable and he wanted to give them to the trainers as a reward for helping him finding the tour group again... And also sort of to bribe them into not telling the rest of the world how dangerous the ruins could actually be.

Vincent stashed the stone in his bag, content to look at his loot later. He shrugged, waved a bye/thank you to the tour guide, essentially accepting the bribe with no questions. Vincent forced a handshake with Aberdeen, somewhat thanking him for the help in the caves (as much as he didn't enjoy the small boy's company) and made his way south to the next route. After all, he was in a rush to get nowhere.

You guys farmed Smeargle as if they were Goblins in Diablo II :p Sure, they were lv 12 and you guys were closer to lv 15 most of the time, but just know that I won't always give levels for each pokémon you claim to plow down like that :] And don't ask how Napoleon got a level. He watched it all very closely from his pokéball or something, yes yes.

Aberdeen
Chespin grew to lv 17!
Pidgey grew to lv 16!
Whismur grew to lv 16!
Honedge grew to lv 12!

Melody
Blossom grew to lv 18 and wants to learn Reflect! Forget an old move?
Napoleon grew to lv 16!
Hawk grew to lv 15 and learned Wing Attack!

Sarah and Christina - Ruins of Alph

After Christina had said goodbye to Blaine, she stretched her arms out over her head, glancing a little upwards at the still rumbling, dark clouds above with a light frown on her lips. "It's probably going to rain soon... come on Sindy, we better hurry if we wanna stay dry."

Sindy, nodding her head softly, began waddling faster, half-running towards the museum building coming up about five minutes away. However, as Christina began picking up the pace, she blinked a little and looked over to the left. It looked like... a shoe? A pair of shoes in fact.

Widening her eyes slowly, she turned and ran over towards the large boulder with Sindy suddenly turning around to follow her trainer with a confused squeak. As Christina rounded the rock, she gasped, seeing the young girl laying on the ground. Hurrying over, she knelt down by her side, gently gripping her shoulders and giving the girl a light shake. "H-hey! Hey, are you okay? Say something!"

Sarah's eyes opened slowly and she let out a light groan as she was being shook. Her eyes continued to open slowly before they shot open once she remembered what had happened. She lunged forward and looked all around but her attackers were nowhere to be found. She let out a small sigh of relief when she couldn't see the goons anymore but her eyes lit up like fire when she remembered what they had done.

She shook her head free of these thoughts and looked over at the girl who had shaken her awake. She looked to be about the same age as Sarah perhaps a bit older, she had long red hair and a belt which sported several Poke balls. She was definitely a trainer, although the small Cyndaquil which was beside her was a dead giveaway. She blinked her eyes several times in order to regain her vision as quickly as she could. Her breathing was slow and heavy, she had to try and catch her breath again before she attempted to do anything else. She took a few more breaths before she spoke in a soft yet out of breath tone.

"Thanks for helping me. Do you have any idea how long I've been out for?"

Looking rather worried with the girl who'd just woken up, Christina smiled lightly, shaking her head. "I don't really know, I only just came walking past and saw you. Are you alright? What happened?"

Sarah's eyes widened when she heard that Christina had only just gotten here. She quickly reached down and checked to make sure her Poke balls were still there, those goons could have snatched them once Sarah hit the ground. Luckily both of them were still there and see cracked a smile and puffed out her cheeks once she seen them. She turned back to Christina, still as breathless as before and started to explain the scenario.

"Well I was just visiting the museum because I was curious to see what was there. So after I'd finished in there I noticed two shady looking people hiding behind this rock over here so I ran over and confronted them. Turns out they had a bunch of stolen stuff from the museum and they were trying to take off with it. We ended up in a Pokémon battle which I would have won until one of them had their Koffing use poison gas … on me! I fell to the ground, my vision was blurry and my breathing was heavy, there wasn't much I could do. Soon after I just faded to black and next thing I know I'm being woken up by you. Quite an ordeal huh? It's too bad those crooks got away."

Sarah's vision and normal rate of breathing began to slowly return. She continued to blink her eyes and take deep breaths in an attempt to regain her composure.

"Poison gas?" Christina replied, her eyes wide. Sindy was stood next to the other girl, looking rather worried up at her while gently nudging the leg with her side. Christina's brows furrowed worriedly, folding her arms across her chest. "And some goons who stole a lot of stuff... right. Well, I'm glad you seem to be okay, but maybe you should head to the museum or the nearby Center further down the route and make sure you're alright. Do you have a Pokégear? Might want to report it to the police."

She paused before smiling at the girl again, offering her hand. "I'm Christina, by the way."

Sarah smiled and lifted her hand off the ground in order to meet Christina's. With a heave Christina raised herself onto her feet before pulling Sarah up onto hers. "Thanks!" Sarah said before she lowered her head and dusted her now dirty clothes in an attempt to make them less filthy. She let out a small sigh when she saw that the dirt on her clothes wasn't moving an inch. She stopped this futile effort and raised her head back up towards Christina.

"Maybe I should go to the Pokémon Center. I gotta see if I can get a change of clothes somewhere. What are you planning on doing Christina?"

"I think I'm gonna wait and see if it's actually going to rain. It looks a bit uncertain, but I don't really have a jacket or anything." The red-headed girl tilted her head back and glanced up at the darkened skies, wrinkling her nose a little before looking back down at Sarah with a smile.

"In either case, it's good to see you're alright. Are you gonna be okay on your own?"

"I should be, as long as nothing happens to me on the way of course" Sarah replied as she let out a small giggle. The weather was getting considerably worse as time progressed, it's a shame she didn't have a jacket either. As much as she was enjoying some company for once, they would soon have to part ways. Sarah needed to clean herself up as well as heal her damaged Pokémon and Christina sounded like she's gonna wait around the ruins to avoid being caught in the rain, smart move … but one that Sarah couldn't undertake at this moment.

"Yeah, no worries. Someone back in the town said the center isn't far off, it's just south past the lake." Christina commented, glancing along the route swerving through the ruined buildings towards the south, where the forest began once again. Turning to the blonde girl, Chris smiled and nodded firmly. "Well, in either case, it was nice meeting you Sarah. I hope we can meet up again sometime when things are less... you know, rainy and busy." She offered the girl a grin before making her way towards the museum as she turned and gave her a wave, the Cyndaquil scurrying after her trainer with a squeak. "See you around Sarah!"

"See you around Christina! Thanks again!" Sarah shouted as she watched her rescuer run off towards the museum. Sarah let out a sigh and then a groan, her clothes were dirty, her vision still wasn't perfect and the sky was still darkened with black clouds. She made sure that everything which she had previously was still there as well as checking her Poke balls a second time before lazily jogging towards the exit of the Alph Ruins and towards the Violet City Pokémon Center.

If it wasn't for that girl who knows how much longer I would have stayed knocked out for. I owe her one, hopefully I get to see her again so I pay her back thought Sarah as she continued to jog along.

Christina had mentioned going to the police and reporting those crooks which attacked her ... but that wasn't going to happen at all. Sarah wanted revenge and the frown which appeared on her forehead was a clear indication of this as she exited the Alph Ruins and headed towards Violet City.

Chapter 4 - Ruins Of Alph

A Quick Reunion! Melody's Gift!

Melody and Blossom both followed Vincent out of the ruins after their rather eventful tour. The duo had parted ways with Aberdeen shortly after, but not before Melody made sure to call out to the boy that they should meet up again some day. The clouds in the sky were slowly starting to break away, giving a few glimpses of the afternoon sun making a desperate attempt to try and break through them all.

"Well... I guess that wasn't too bad, right?" Melody asked Vincent, the girl hurrying to catch up to the boy's side as was her usual spot since the duo had been traveling together. "I mean, sure... we really didn't get to see much of the tour, but Blossom and Hanzo evolved! And that battle against all the Smeargles was kinda fun!"

Blossom the Bayleef smiled proudly at Melody's praise. She nudged her head against the girl's arm, causing Melody to give her attention to the now much bigger Pokémon. She affectionately patted the Bayleef on her head.

"Heh... Sorry, Blossom..." the trainer told the grass-type. "But I think you're a bit too big for me to carry around now."

"You should probably keep the Pokemon in its Pokeball. Otherwise, it will start bossing you around too much," Vincent suggested. "Hanzo doesn't mind. I mean, as long as when we are camping he gets to sleep outside his Pokeball, but that's just because he can be a bit picky." Vincent picked up the pace a bit, just so Melody could struggle behind him. They lost way too much time in the caves, despite the excitement, and he wanted to be at least near the next town before nightfall. He sighed a bit at the sun slowly going down. "Damn. We wasted way too much time in there," he mumbled to himself.

Melody glanced over at Blossom, giving the Bayleef a curious glance. "I don't think you'd do that... Would you, Blossom?"

The Bayleef simply smiled happily, before nuzzling up against the girl's hand once more. Melody seemed to take that answer as a no, so she responded by patting the top of the Bayleef's head before moving quickly to catch back up to Vincent. The boy seemed to be in a bit of a hurry, so Melody did not want to make him too upset in the event that she was holding him up. After all, it was getting late. Vincent was probably wanting to reach the nearest Pokémon Center before nightfall.

As she and Vincent made for the exit of the ruin grounds, a familiar sight quickly caught Melody's eye. A broad smile made its way to the girl's lips as she grabbed hold of Vincent's hand, dragging the boy to a stop... or more like, slowing him down.

"Christina!" Melody called out, waving her other hand frantically in an attempt to get the girl to notice her. A great strength somehow found its way to Melody. The girl began to run towards her red-haired friend's direction, practically dragging Vincent behind her. "I didn't know you were gonna be here too!"

Blinking her eyes, the redhead turned towards the sound of whoever was calling her name, as did Sindy. Her eyes widened as she saw Melody darting towards her, a bright smile forming on her lips. "Melody! He-" Her expression suddenly darkened as she noticed Vincent being dragged along behind the girl. What the hell is he doing with Melody? Doing her best to try and not throw a fit towards the boy, she smiled back at Melody as the two came over. "Hey! And yeah, you know, if you wanna go to Azaela, there aren't that many routes to go, so, heh. It's great to see you though. What're you... two, doing here?"

"We were checkin' out the ruins!" Melody explained. "Well, we were tryin' too... But, um... Things got a bit complicated once we got inside there..." She paused, looking over her shoulder at Vincent. Melody's eyes widened as she realized she was still holding the boy's hand, and quickly released it. Melody began to blush once more, but then quickly fought it down as soon as it had came to her cheeks. "Ah... Um, have you met my friend? T-This is Vincent! And um, Vincent, this is my friend Christina!"

"We've met before," Vincent said. "Back in Violet." Vincent recalled the meeting and remembered it hardly going well. Then again, Christina wasn't the type of person Vincent made his business befriending. Vincent had considered entertaining a conversation but then again, he didn't much care for her or wearing out his welcome.

"Yeah, we have." Christina replied with a rather deadpan tone, giving Vincent a brief little glance before looking back at Melody, seemingly picking up her smile again. "So, are you two heading to Azaela together? It sure looks that way."

"Yeah, we are!" Melody replied. "We met back at the academy in Violet City and then again when we were leaving the town... So we just decided to go together! You know, 'cause travelling alone isn't always such a fun thing..."

Meanwhile Blossom happily made her way towards Sindy. The Bayleef glanced down at the much smaller Pokémon, a rather proud smile gracing her features as she started to pose for the fire-type. It was almost as if Blossom was bragging to the Cyndaquil about the fact that she had evolved...

Sindy stared up at Blossom with her eyes still at a squint, but a clear look of awe and a slight tinge of jealousy as she squeaked out quietly, chatting with the now much larger grass-type, trying to regain some cool-factor by telling Blossom of her and Chris' exploits in the labyrinth beneath the ruins.

Christina nodded lightly and offered a more genuine smile, even going as far as sending this one to Vincent as well, if only briefly. "Mmh... yeah, I guess that's true." She paused for a moment, looking the two over with her brow slightly furrowed. "Uhm... you two look like you haven't just been visiting the ruins, but more like you've been digging around in a pile of dirt... is everything alright?"

"Our tour was interrupted by the storm that passed by earlier. So we had to dig our way out," Vincent offered, revealing as little detail as possible. He was hardly invested in the conversation and saw this whole reunion as little more than an unnecessary distraction. "We hung out fighting some Pokemon on our way out too. Nothing I couldn't handle."

"Huh. Well, I'm glad you guys are alright, at least." Despite how she felt that Vincent was a bit of an idiot, based on what had happened back at the center, she was still happy that he was there to help out Melody. If she met him again though, she'd have to confront him about the whole ordeal. "I had a pretty weird time as well. You know those crystals we found?" She asked, turning to Melody. "Blaine and I found the statue they belonged to, but it ended up dropping us into this like... underground labyrinth. It was pretty crazy!"

"For reals? Here I was starting to think that they were just something we could sell..." Melody replied, slipping into yet another ramble.. "I mean, we could still sell them I guess. There's nothing that says we couldn't, but if they belong to statues here then we should probably return them... But we have been here for a while, and I doubt Vinny would wanna head back down there anyways since it is startin' to get really late..."

Meanwhile, Blossom began to recount her own details of the adventure to Sindy. The larger Pokémon began to talk in a very animated fashion. A pair of vines extended from the Bayleef as she spoke, the Pokémon waving them all about in the process.

Sindy stared up at Blossom, nodding her head eagerly as she listened to the 'mon's tale, seeming rather excited about the whole storytelling bit.

"I wouldn't bother." Chris commented, shrugging her shoulders lightly, glancing back at the museum. "I mean, it didn't seem like the crystals were... missing, as such. I dunno, it was hard to tell. But they aren't really missing them, so selling them is probably the better way to go about it."

"If you two really want to go return a bunch of crystals to a bunch of old statues, be my guest," Vincent said, faking happiness. This was a golden opportunity to head off alone and get rid of some distractions. "I can always meet you at Azalea, Melody. I'll be fine. And you hang out with your good friend here. I'm sure Christina would be happy to be spend quality with you. After all, I feel like I am interrupting something here."

Melody grinned, shaking her head quickly. "No, that's okay! Truth is that I've totally had enough of these ruins after today to last me for some time! Besides, I promised we were gonna go to Azalea together, so that's what we're gonna do! It'd be rude just to ditch ya, Vinny!"

There goes that brilliant idea, Vincent thought to himself, his face almost moping.

She turned to Christina and smiled at the girl. "Isn't this guy so nice? He's totally awesome to hang around! Lemme tell you, this guy! I totally... kinda got into a small scrape back in the ruins, right? And Vinny totally went out of his way to save me!" She paused for a moment, a small blush creeping back up to her cheeks. "It was... really cool..."

Chris' brows raised a little as she looked from her friend over at Vincent again, a look of surprise in her eyes. "Really? Huh." She paused, looking thoughtful for a few moments before breaking into a smile. Maybe she'd just gotten off on the wrong foot with the guy after all. "That -was- pretty nice of him. Anyways, it sounds like he wants to get going, so I'm not gonna hold you up any longer. I'm gonna stay here and hope the clouds'll disperse a bit more before going, don't wanna get caught in the rain."

"Okay then..." Melody replied. She was about to bid farewell to Christina, when suddenly she remembered something. The girl had yet to pay her red-haired friend back for giving her Napoleon... Thinking back, it was because of the Buizel that Melody had even managed to get her first badge. Quickly, the girl dropped her backpack to the ground and began to rummage through it.

"Hold on for a sec..." Melody said, moving several of the bags contents around. She sighed, trying to figure out where she had placed what she was looking for. Somehow, the object had managed to get down all the way to the bottom of her backpack. Melody's eyes lit up as she found what she was looking for. "Aha! Here it is!"

Climbing back to her feet, Melody presented the Ultra Ball she had received from her time at Violet City's trainer academy. She held the ball out for Christina, smiling brightly at the redhead.

"Um... I know it totally isn't anything close to comparison, but I want you to have this," Melody began. "You know, because you gave me Napoleon waaaaaay back when our journey just started and well, he's helped me out a bunch! So... I figured maybe I could return the favor and help you out myself."

Blinking in surprise yet again, Christina looked at the yellow and black ball offered to her. She seemed like she was about to tell Melody to keep it, but thinking back at Falkner and the Monks' advice, she felt it was probably a better idea to take the gift. That, and she didn't want Melody to feel sad about her politely declining. Instead, she smiled brightly and took the ball, briefly wrapping an arm around the shorter girl in a squeezing hug before pulling back again.

"Awh Melody, you really didn't have to. I'm just glad Napoleon's having a good time with you. Maybe we can meet up in Azaela sometime and chat, get some lunch or something?"

"That'd be awesome!" Melody replied with excitement. "I'll keep an eye out for ya when we get there, Chrissy! Take care of yourself, okay?"

Blossom noticed that her trainer was about to leave at this point. The Bayleef gave a small nod to Sindy, using one of her vines to wave goodbye to the Cindaquil before making her way to join Vincent and Melody's side.

Vincent waved goodbye to Christina and motioned for Melody to get going. "Let's go," he said. "I got a feeling another storm is gonna hit us and I'm in no mood to get soaked again." Vincent smiled at his own memory and how drenched he got thanks to Christina. Vincent picked up his pace and went south, heading towards the next route with a certain level of excitement.

After taking Melody's pokégear number and received a gleaming stone to put into his bag, a tired Aberdeen found himself inside the museum at last, away from the rain that was starting to pour down at last. At least the thunders had faded. Thunders wasn't his favorite thing right now.

Tired beyond belief, he slumped down on a sofa and looked around. His pokémon were hurt and tired, and his stomach was rumbling like madness. They got to have some kind of cafeteria here, right?

Forcing himself back up on his feet after a while of resting, he managed to find not only some place to buy food (and something for the journey south) but also a pokémon healing desk next to the museum's infirmary. Apparently it was common with injuries in the Ruins of Alph. Well yeah, Ab had certainly noticed that. He left his pokémon there to heal while he went to buy the food. But when he went back to take them out again, the nurse said that one of his pokémon had escaped its pokéball and refused to be healed. Aberdeen knew exactly which one that would be.

He fastened three of his pokéballs back on his belt and watched the irritated Honedge whirr about in the air in front of him in the corridor. He wasn't sure of what she was going on about, but she clearly wasn't happy at all. As he started to walk outside, she followed him closely.

Afternoon rain poured down and Ab pulled his hood up over his head before he came to a stop outside the museum and pointed at a set of worn ruin walls ahead of them. Honedge stopped her whirring for and blinked at him.

"There's where I found you," Ab smiled. "Trying to stab me, getting stuck in the wall, having to rely on a boy to get you out."

Honedge followed his hand with her gaze. Yes... That was her territory.

Aberdeen shrugged. "I said I'd get you back after the storm. So here we are then!"

Honedge blinked again. Yes, she supposed that was right. He... turned out to be a boy of his word after all.

"But hey," the boy added with a solemn look and suddenly reached out and touched her hilt without warning. She tensed up; had he still not learned that she didn't like being held like an item? "Thank you for the help in there. You know, with Smeargle and in the dark. I appreciate it, you were a champ!"

She whirred, like a scoff. Of course she was a champ, she didn't need a human boy to tell her that. But... it did feel good with some recognition, actually.

"So I guess this is goodbye," the human boy said and put his hands in his pockets.

Yeah. Suppose it was. She buzzed a softer noise now. Goodbye. The kid turned around and started walking back towards the museum. She turned around and faced the ruins she'd been calling her home for... Longer than she knew. She didn't know, actually. She didn't know where she came from. Or what she was doing here. She was just living. Or being dead? She was a ghost. Well, a ghost pokémon. These concepts weren't really clear to Honedge, and she now wondered why she was even thinking about them. She'd better just get on with her... existence. Fighting other Honedge, stabbing the random wayward Smeargle...

"Unless, you know," the boy's voice suddenly came again from behind her. "It's still raining and doesn't look like it'll let up for a while. The pokéball seems dry inside. Or, I think I is at least. Unless for water pokémon maybe. Haha, I gotta find a water pokémon and ask it what it's like inside its own pokéball!"

She would have shaken her head if she'd had one. Weird boy. But was he just giving her an opportunity to... jump back inside the pokéball and come with him? Away from the Ruins of Alph? Could she even do that?

His eyes glimmered at her through the soft rain and she could see the slight apprehension in them. He wanted to be her trainer. That was an odd feeling. And here she was, not sure of what her existence was for. Maybe... Maybe she should actually...

Honedge whirred more defiantly again, but she didn't turn away. Rather, she approached Aberdeen in the air and swayed her body with a challenging eye. And she drew her blade from the sheath.

"What are you doing? Are you going to stab me again, after all we went through?" Ab said with a raised eyebrow.

She shook her blade to the side so that it almost looked like she was shaking a head. Then she turned her blade upwards as if saying 'en garde'! And Aberdeen slowly understood.

"You want to battle me... You want me to capture you the proper way!"

She nodded with her blade, fervently, and his face split up into a wide grin. He even pulled down his hood to be more aware, even though the rain would wet his hair.

"Careful though, you've seen my pals in action already, and I'm going to do everything I can to make you come with me!"

For some reason, that sentence made Honedge want to smile. If only she could. At least she could swing her blade.

"Chespin!" Aberdeen called out and held out his starter's pokéball. Chespin emerged, feeling refreshed from the rain but was a bit confused seeing that Honedge was their opponent. Hadn't she just been on his team? Or... Aberdeen bent down to chat with him. "We have to deserve having a sword on our team. You're the knight, yeah? You need a sword. So go get her!"

Chespin shone up at that way of looking at it and put up his fighting face against the steel pokémon. She didn't wait for him to make the first move, and she wasn't going to take Aberdeen's orders now. She shot forward in a quick Tackle.

Ab saw that the blade wasn't the intended point of impact and interpreted the attack as something not slashing. "Counter with Tackle!" he shouted in the nick of time, and Chespin managed to gather enough force to counter and hold his ground on impact.

Honedge whirled back up into the air and actually kept whirling until a strange gleam could be seen in circles around her. Aberdeen tried to remember her attacks, but he hadn't really had time to check the pokédex during the short amount of time she had been with him. It looked bad though.

"Chespin, Leech Seed!"

The rodent gathered energy in his mouth and then spat out a glowing seed that landed on Honedge's sheath. Noticing it, she stopped whirling around and watched in horror as the seed sprouted and grew vines all over her sheath and textile.

"Hah, never tried that attack before. Let's see if it does its job!" Aberdeen commented and Chespin nodded with a toothy smile.

Honedge wasn't going to hang around just waiting to see though. Her blade started to glow in a mossy green color as she darted forward and made a quick nab at Chespin. It gave him a cut on his elbow but wasn't really damaging him much. The constantly leaking energy from the Leech Seed was actually enough to make his mysterious pokémon body heal this small scratch even before his next move.

"Vine Whip!"

Chespin shoot out two vines to try and lash at the steel pokémon with, but Honedge countered quickly with another Fury Cutter and easily slashed away the vines. This time, it hurt more than the previous cuts, and Chespin nearly withdrew his vines completely.

"Oh, I see..." Aberdeen said with a furrowed brow. "You upped your attack focus before, didn't you? And now you're doing something that makes you faster and better."

Honedge whirred triumphantly. He wasn't completely right, but not far off. Maybe they could be on the same side in some great battles to come... Not that this was over yet! Her Fury Cutter would tear Chespin down for sure, and it wouldn't even matter that Chespin had more battle experience than her, training-wise.

But everything is never as simple as is looks in a list of moves. Aberdeen ran up to his starter and whispered something to him. Honedge whirred impatiently. That was cheating, wasn't it? Hiding your plans like that. Then again, he had no way of hearing her plans either since she didn't exactly call them out herself. Her plan was anyways mostly to hack and slash her way to victory at this point.

But Chespin suddenly curled up and rolled up to her. Rollout? She could stab through that! As the ball approached on the muddy ground, she poised herself to slash with a Fury Cutter and bring her opponent off balance as soon as he tried to hit her...

At the last moment, Chespin turned and rolled past Honedge though, making her attack cut through the rain but no grass pokémon's skin.

"Now!" Ab shouted, and Honedge felt the vines she had cut through earlier suddenly reach and grasp her hilt. She tensed up, as she always did when somebody touched her there. The eye that was facing Aberdeen stared widely at him as he walked up closer. "I know you don't like it when I hold your hilt. Sorry for doing that. I promise to not do it without asking in the future."

As if there'd be a future where he'd be in her vicinity! This was not over yet! Honedge twisted in Chespin's grip and managed to give a few cuts to the vines again. But she also noticed that her attacks weren't as strong as the previous anymore... Because once you miss with Fury Cutter, you have to start focusing from the beginning again. Bummer!

"Bite!" Aberdeen ordered, standing so close that he could almost do it himself. But his teeth wouldn't be covered with the dark power that Chespin's were when the pokémon dug deep into the hilt. That was too much for Honedge, who fainted on the spot.

Dark... No, brighter. Warm. Friendly. And most of all, dry.

Honedge realized that she was inside a pokéball again. For how long? Regardless of what the answer to that question was, she wouldn't be inside for long. Because now somebody was pressing the button on the outside, sending her out.

They were back inside the museum building, just outside the pokémon healing desk. The nurse looked relieved. The same one that had been worried about Aberdeen's reluctant pokémon before. Aberdeen, who was standing right next to where she floated in the air, big grin on his face and Chespin on his shoulder.

"Feeling better? I realized even this might have been a bit unfair, because you didn't heal up after the adventure in the deep ruins earlier. So if you want to have another battle at some point, just let me know. But for now... Let's travel for a bit. There's much more to see than these dusty ruins. Okay?"

Honedge didn't whirr. She just looked the human boy in the eyes and, after a little while, nodded by wiggling her sheathed body up and down.

Fine then. She soared after the boy as they exited the building once more and finally set course for Route 32 in the south. Maybe this was where she was meant to exist after all.

Melody and Vincent had been traveling for a few hours away from the Ruins of Alph. While the duo were not finding themselves in danger of any more rainstorms, it was progressively starting to get darker as the last bit of the afternoon sun began to fade into night. The shorter girl pulled out her Pokégear and flipped the device open, quickly opening up the handy map application so the duo could have a better grasp at their current location.

"Hey, Vinny..." Melody called out, trying to get her traveling companion's attention. "We've been walking for a bit now and the map says we've still got at least another three hours or so before we reach the nearest Pokémon Center... Not that I'm getting tired or anything like that, but... Maybe we should stop for the night and set up some sort of camp? It's probably not a good idea to go wandering around after dark like this."

It will take a few hours at this rate. I could be there in like an hour, Vincent thought to himself. Vincent ceased his stride and looked at the waning light. His face twisted ever so slightly in frustration. Melody had a point, but sticking around in a camp was not a good idea either. Then, they were sitting ducks. At least if they were moving, they could escape trouble. He learned that the hard way. "Camping" was often a last ditch effort. "I rather not if we can help it," Vincent finally said after crossing his arms.

"Okay... Maybe I'm getting a little tired..." Melody responded after hearing Vincent's response. Melody took a step closer to Vincent, giving the boy an almost pleading look as she did so. "But I mean, come on you've gotta be getting tired too, right? We've been on our feet pretty much all day! And our Pokémon probably wouldn't mind getting some rest for the night either, you know."

Vincent frowned and sighed. Vincent guessed he was just used to being active. He had to be. Running his fingers through his hair before putting his hat back on, clearly deep in thought and considering all his options. "Fine. We'll camp out."

Melody's face seemed to light up at his eventual agreement to the notion. "Thanks, Vinny! It could even be pretty fun! You know, I always heard that part of the adventure in a trainer's journey was spent camping out under the stars! Ooooh, we could tell ghost stories! That would be such a cool thing to do, am I right?"

"Right..." Vincent muttered with a deadpan stare. "Let's start with a fire. It may get cold." Vincent took a turn off the road, figuring their camp may be a little better off the beaten path. A few meters away, he found a clearing with a few logs scattered about. Good for sitting, he reasoned as he gathered some stones to create a makeshift firepit. "Hey Melody, go find some sticks or something. Anything to keep a fire going." Vincent released all his Pokemon out of their Pokeballs. He murmered different orders to Hanzo and Brian who spread out in two different directions, leaving Exaclibur to follow him around the camp site for anything to use for kindling.

"Sticks! Got it, no problem!" Melody replied.

Seeing Vincent release his Pokémon, the girl decided that this would be a good chance for her team stretch their legs for a bit too. She smiled, letting all three of her companions out of their balls. Hawk immediately flapped up to perch on Melody's shoulder, whereas Blossom nuzzled up against the girl's side. Napoleon on the other hand simply stood off to the side as was usual for the Buizel, crossing his arms with a huff.

"Alright, guys! We're camping out for the night," Melody explained to her team. "So we need to get some sticks and stuff for a nice, toasty campfire. Let's all work together so we can get done fast."

Blossom and Hawk chirped and squawked in unison, happily following behind the girl as she led them a bit further away from their campsite to perform the gathering task. Napoleon merely rolled his eyes in response, waiting for the girl, Taillow, and Bayleef to get a bit further ahead before he trudged along behind them.

Hanzo and Brian returned a few moments later with a collection of sticks for the fire as Vincent hunched over the fire pit. He silently thanked them and the two decided to take a few steps back and watched Vincent go to work. Not that there was much of a show. Vincent pulled out a pack of matches from his bag, ordering Hanzo to drop his logs into the fire pit. Brian flew up and dropped his sticks as well, chirping while he did. Vincent lit a match and set the kindling aflame and tossed the first bit of kindling into the pile of logs and sticks. The fire was weak, but Vincent was calm and delibrate. "I need a bit more smaller sticks and stuff to get the coals going. Otherwise this fire is going to die," he said to Hanzo and the others. "Let's hope Melody gets some decent stuff."

Meanwhile, Melody and her team continued their work to gather extra sticks for the fire... Well, more like Blossom and Hawk helped the girl. Blossom had collected quite a decent amount of sticks, carrying them all wrapped up nice and tight in her vines. Hawk had a nice amount for the his small size, the bird flapping his wings to stay in the air with his sticks clenched tightly in his talons. Napoleon was another matter all together, though. The Buizel more or less trudged along behind the girl every so often, the Buizel not even going out of his way to pick up a single stick. Melody sighed as she glanced over at the little otter.

"You know, Napoleon... You could at least help out some. I mean, you're gonna be sleeping out by the fire too, you know?" Melody commented.

Napoleon simply glanced up at Melody, giving a quiet grunt in response. He took a few steps over towards a nearby twig, scooping it up into his palms before trudging on ahead towards the campsite. Melody sighed again as she watched this, before leading Blossom and Hawk back to the campsite.

"I don't understand what his problem is... It's almost like he just flat out doesn't wanna be with us..." Melody thought as she and her team walked. "I mean... It's not like I wanna force him... Maybe I should think about letting him go soon or something..."

Glancing up, Melody spotted the warm sight of a small campfire going. For now, the trainer decided to push the thoughts she was having about Napoleon to the back of her mind. After all, there was no point in dragging down the spirit and fun of a campfire with bad vibes and worried thoughts.

"We're back!" Melody called as she, the Bayleef, and Taillow caught up with Napoleon. "I hope this will be enough to help out for the night!"

"Well, worst case, we can throw Blossom into the fire," Vincent suggested.

An absolutely horrified look came across Blossom's face. The Bayleef dropped several of the sticks she had been carrying on the ground, before slowly backing away and shaking her head in opposition. Melody watched the panicked look on the Bayleef's face, before gently petting the grass-type and trying to calm her down.

"H-Hey! Relax, Blossom! He was just kidding!" Melody assured, in a soothing voice. "Calm on, you know how Vinny gets! He's just got that sense of humor about him! He didn't mean any harm." She paused, glancing over in Vincent's direction at this point, smiling weakly, yet expectantly at the boy. "Right, Vinny?"

"Oh, I'm not so sure. This fire does look kind of weak," he replied with a shrug as he remained hunched over his fire, tossing in some of the sticks Melody and her group had gathered. He blew onto the fire in order for some coals to catch. "We may need some extra...assistance." Vincent shot a demonic glare at Blossom, chuckling under his breath in a manical tone.

Blossom seemed to cower more at Vincent's response, despite what Melody had told her just a few moments ago. The girl glared over in Vincent's direction, quickly making her way over towards the boy and punching him in the arm.

"What are you doing? Can't you see you're really scaring her like that?!" Melody whispered in a very angry tone.

"She seemed so tough earlier. I thought she could take a joke," Vincent fired back, gritting his teeth together. "Not my fault your Pokemon are so senstive to sarcasm."

"They're not, but she doesn't know you're kidding!" Melody retorted. "It's not like your joking is always something that can actually be taken as funny... Remember what you did to poor Aberdeen back in the ruins?"

"Oh please. That joke was so basic that my little br- anyone could of seen through it," Vincent said, almost slipping up. Finally, his efforts on the fire paid off as the campfire lit up and maintained a deep red glow. "Looks like I won't need Blossom after all. You are safe for now, little girl," he said walking past her, lightly tapping her on the head. "Maybe next time," he chuckled before turning around. "I'm kidding."

Blossom looked at Vincent quietly, offering the boy a sheepish smile before making her way towards her trainer. The Bayleef gently nuzzled against Melody's hand again, to which the girl responded by patting her head softly before taking a seat on one of the logs that had been brought to the fire for that. The Bayleef took a side beside Melody, laying down quietly on the grass beside her, while Hawk once more perched on her shoulder. As she expected, Napoleon took a seat a bit further away from the rest, instead choosing to sit by a nearby tree.

Melody remained quiet for a moment, before looking up at Vincent slowly. "Um... S-Sorry... I guess I over-reacted a bit..."

"Whatever," Vincent said, sitting on the log on the other side of the fire. Hanzo sat next to Vincent, appearing to almost meditate beside the fire. Perhaps the fire helped him focus. Brian perched himself on the other side of Vincent, while Exaclibur floated around the campfire silently, enjoying the night air.

"Hey, Vinny...?" Melody called out. She glanced up a bit apprehensively at the boy. "Um... Earlier, you were gonna say something else... Like, little brother?"

"I have no idea what you are talking about." Vincent didn't meet her glance, instead digging into his bag. He pulled out some snacks, the very little he could afford. He snapped into a candy bar, before opening some packs of Pokemon food for Hanzo, Brian and Exaclibur. Though he wasn't quite sure if a ghost type needed nourishment.

Melody gave the boy a confused look. She shook her head slowly at the boy's comment. "No, you definitely said little br..." the trainer reasoned. "I mean, I know I'm not a genius, but there's only so many terms that start out that way..."

"I said: I have no idea what you are talking about," Vincent repeated, this time with less emotion than before. Vincent lifted his head ever so slightly, staring down at Melody.

"A-Ah... Um, okay then..." Melody replied quickly, looking back down sheepishly. The girl honestly had not meant to make him mad. She was just curious, but she realized she may have pushed too far. She watched Vincent take a bite of his candy bar, before reaching into her own backpack. She smiled softly as she found two bottles of lemonade inside that she had purchased earlier. "Are you thirsty? Here, take one of my lemonades."

Shrugging, he stood up and walked over to Melody. He gently, as gently Vincent could be, took her up on the offer. Taking the lemonade back to his seat, this time sliding to the ground, using the log as support for his back, which cracked loudly as he leaned back and gazed up at the stars. His eyes widened as he instinctively, reached into this backpack and pulled out his pad and pencil. Vincent also slapped himself with the pad as he ripped out of the bag, angry at himself for not doing this since Violet. Furiously, he started drawing on the pad, looking up at the stars and the fire interchangably.

Melody opened up her own bottle of lemonade, taking a small sip of the beverage as she looked up at the night sky. She frowned as she looked at the stars. Her mention of the idea of Vincent having a little brother made the girl start thinking of her mother and older twin sister back in Cherrygrove... And of course, him...

"...I should probably call them when we reach the next center. I bet they're worried," Melody mused quietly.

"What was that?" Vincent said, not really paying attention as he continued to draw on his pad with intense focus. He found himself eventually looking at her as he continued to draw. "You say something?" Vincent questioned again, somehow looking at her while still being able to draw, as if natural ability took over.

"Oh... Well, it's just..." Melody began. She bit her lip, hesitating a bit before she continued on. "I was just thinking about my mom and sister back home. This has been the longest time I've ever really been away from either of them, so I guess maybe I'm getting a bit homesick, is all."

Vincent raised an eyebrow and chuckled. "Haven't you only been gone like a few days?" He barely looked away from his drawing and leaned back to listen to Melody. Considering his opinions on his family, it would be interesting to listen to the clearly more clingy Melody speak about hers.

"Well, yeah..." Melody replied. She moved her finger close to her shoulder, allowing Hawk to use it for a perch.The girl began to gently pet the bird as she resumed talking. "I mean... Well, I've never really been on my own this long before. My sister and I... well, I guess you could say we're those stereo-typical twins. You know the kind that are almost always together, telling each other all those secrets and junk."

She paused again, seeming a bit hesitant to keep speaking. Melody lowered her eyes from Vincent's form, keeping her eyes focused on the bird that rested on her finger. Eventually, the girl did go on. "Mom was more or less all we had growing up... for pretty much as long as I can remember. So, I guess it's only natural that I'm kind of strongly attached to her as well."

"You'll get over it," Vincent found himself saying. "I-" He stopped himself. "You won't notice they are gone soon. You...You will find something else to think about eventually." With the sketch done for now, he stuffed everything back into his bag and took a big gulp of his lemonade.

"...Don't you have anyone back home that you miss, Vinny?" Melody questioned. "I mean, I'm not prying into who they are or anything like that, but... You know, surely you miss someone from back home, right?"

"You are awfully close to prying," Vincent retorted, pointing at her. He sighed and looked back at the stars. "I got a couple, but then again, I am barely home as it is. So, I got used to it. If that makes any sense."

Melody smiled weakly at him. "Not entirely... But that's fine. Maybe when we get to the center you could give them a buzz too and let 'em know you're doing okay."

She finished the last bit of her lemonade, before returning the bottle back into her backpack. The girl made a small note in the back of her mind to make sure she disposed of the empty bottle properly later, before she stood up with a yawn and a stretch. As she rose, Hawk flew up and perched himself on a nearby tree. The little Taillow stretched his wings one more time, before closing them around himself like some sort of blanket.

"Well... Today was pretty eventful, so... I think I'm gonna go ahead and call it a night here," Melody said. Blossom stood back up as she said this, the Bayleef nuzzling against her arm as Melody led her a bit away from the fire. "Um... Thanks again for saving me and stuff... Good night!"

Melody waved at the boy, before leading her Bayleef further away from the fire. The grass-type settled down in the grass, before Melody laid down beside her. The trainer rested her head against Blossom, using her body for a pillow of sorts. She faced away from Vincent and the fire, curling up a bit as she yawned and left him to his own devices.

Vincent made a cheers motion with his drink before knocking back the rest of it. He casually tossed it aside as Brian and Hanzo leered at him. "Meh, some Ranger is bound to pick it up," he said quietly. He slid his body forward, using the log as a relatively uncomfortable pillow and pulled his beanie cap forward as a means of blocking of the morning sun from his eyes in the morning. "G'night, guys. Get some rest. Tomorrow is bound to be just as long as today with her around." Vincent pointed at Melody as he finished his little speech. His Pokemon all assumed their regular sleeping postions. Brian rested on a nearby tree branch. Hanzo slept sitting up beside Vincent, remaining viligant in a matter of speaking. Exaclibur, the newcomer, didn't appear to sleep for a while, before leaning on the bench, sheathing himself as much as he could.

The fire crackled from time to time, offering the closest thing to a lullaby for the tired trainers and their Pokemon, blending along with the sounds that the wildlife provided them.

Aberdeen and Sarah - Route 32

Sarah dashed all the back to Violet City and entered into the Pokémon Center that was there. She rushed up to the desk and started to talk to the nurse behind the counter. After a brief exchange, Sarah handed over her Poke balls and was told that there would be a change of clothes for her in one of the small rooms that the Pokémon Center used to treat injured trainers. She headed down a small hall and headed into one of the rooms, closing the door behind her.

A brief while later the door swung open and Sarah emerged with a new set of clothes on. They didn't fit her exactly, they were just ever so slightly too big but they would have to do for now. She came back up the hall and she approached the front desk once again. The nurse smiled at her and handed Sarah back her Poke balls. The nurse insisted that she leave her dirty clothes here and that they would send it back home for her to be cleaned. Agreeing Sarah handed over the dirty clothes and he thanked the nurse, even giving her some money for the new clothes before she turned on her heel and walked outside the Pokémon Center.

The inevitable rain storm had finally arrived and it was spitting down throughout the town. The rain along with the dark clouds made for a very depressing, dull setting. It probably wasn't a great idea to try and head to the next city right now but Sarah decided to chance it. It was starting to get dark, she probably wouldn't make it in time but a little camping never hurt anyone. She used to do it all the time with her father when she was just a little girl. Sarah took off her jacket and threw it over her head and started to run out of the town.

This is a really stupid idea! I'm gonna get soaked thought Sarah as she legged it towards the town exit. I have to try and catch up with them goons from the Ruins though. I am not letting them get away.

Not too far away from her, Aberdeen wasn't exactly pleased with the rain, but he also wasn't going to complain. Heading out in the early evening onto a supposedly long road south after a thunderstorm when light rain and increasing wind danced around him was exactly the kind of risk he set out on this journey to expose himself to. Unfortunately, his pokémon weren't as accepting as he was and even Honedge had craved to get inside her pokéball after only minutes on the road. So Aberdeen walked the sandy road himself, hood up over his normally wild brown hair which was now a bit wet already. He would need to get a proper raincoat, he realized. Not that it would fit in his bag. Perhaps he'd just have to risk getting a cold as well. Oh well.

He kept to the road, but glanced sideways now and then at the tall grass lining the path. Wild pokémon weren't affected much by this gentle rain, so they were still roaming about, sometimes stopping to look and take a sniff at the human walking on the road. Carefully, cautiously.

And Aberdeen did have an urge to try and battle some of them. Getting Honedge onto his team had been thrilling somehow. He wanted even more pokémon. Partners, friends, battlemates. He was convinced that his adventure would be infinitely better with loads of interesting pokémon around him than if he traveled alone.

Just as he stopped and grabbed one of the occupied pokéballs on his belt, ready to step off the road after all and crawl closer to a group of pokémon playing close to the trees of a nearby forest... Someone crashed into him from behind.

Sarah was knocked to the ground and the coat protecting her hair flew off and landed a few feet away from her. She adjusted her vision and seen that she had knocked into a boy. Her clumsiness along with the fact that she wasn't even looking where she was going meant that this was all Sarah's fault.

I hope he's okay …. You know, he isn't half bad looking thought Sarah as she continued to look at the boy from the ground. She shook her head free of these thoughts before she spoke in a low, gentle tone.

"I'm really sorry. Are you okay?"

Aberdeen tried to shake some mud off his pants and then looked at the person who had knocked him over. It was just a girl. At least it wasn't a dangerous wild pokémon!

"Yeah, no worries," he said with a smile of his own. "I was already wet from the rain so what's a bit of mud! Here," he added and reached out a hand to help her up. "I was just thinking of going out into the tall grass to find some pokémon but it was probably a bad idea in this weather so maybe it's a good thing you ran into me and stopped me!"

Sarah reached up and met Aberdeen's hand and heaved herself up of the ground. She started to dust herself off as best she could and tried to make herself look somewhat presentable, a difficult task given the current situation she found herself in.

She half expected the boy to be livid about the fact that Sarah knocked into him but he seemed rather pleasant, he actually didn't seem to mind at all. Sarah finished dusting herself off before she straightened herself up and looked over at Aberdeen.

"Looking for some Pokémon in this weather seems like a bad idea alright. Any idea where we can get some shelter" Sarah quizzed as she smiled at Aberdeen, trying her best to shield herself from the rain at the same time.

Ab looked around but scrunched up his face. "Nah... Don't seem to be much else than open road and grass and cliffs here. Besides, I gotta get going south before it gets too dark. I'm on a journey, you see. And a little rain doesn't scare me." He smiled at Sarah. "I'm Aberdeen, by the way. I'm just guessing that you are traveling too? Since this isn't exactly the place to wander out casually to on a rainy evening."

"Yeah, I'm travelling as well, with my Pokémon of course and I gotta head south too, although I don't think I'll make it to the next city in time. Looks like I'll be camping out" Sarah replied with a smile.

"And as for the rain. The only harm it does me, is that it messes up my hair." She added with a small chuckle as she pushed her now soaking wet fringe to the side.

He's pretty cute, friendly too … Come on stop thinking like that Sarah! Focus! Stop getting distracted, we have to find those crooks from the museum.

Aberdeen blinked away some raindrops and watched her for a second. She hadn't introduced herself back, so perhaps she was the reserved kind. But she talked and giggled like a very friendly person. Ab suddenly got an urge to find out more about her, because the way through which he could do that coincided with another thing he itched to do right now...

"So, if you are a trainer... Let's have a little battle!" he suggested in an eager tone. "Right here, right now. The only harm the rain does is that it messes up our hair, right?" he added with a wink.

Sarah looked at Aberdeen with a puzzled look. He certainly wasn't shy about asking a stranger for a battle that's for sure. Sarah blinked for a few seconds before a cheeky smile appeared on her face.

"A battle? Okay then. First of all though, how many Pokémon do you have? I only have two."

Aberdeen found himself counting on his finger for a moment. "Uh... Four. I have four pokémon! I'm not that great though so don't worry, but we can use only one or two if you like."

"Now why would I go ahead and give you an advantage like that? Pick two Pokémon and let's keep it fair," Sarah replied as she winked at Aberdeen with a smile.

"Of course," Ab shrugged and glanced around them on the dirt road. There weren't any other travelers in sight. "Right here's good enough, right? We can send out our pokémon at the same time to make things extra fair!"

"Sounds good" Sarah said as she reached down and unclipped two Poke balls from her belt. She smiled down at them before tossing the two spheres onto the ground, revealing her Fennekin and a Poliwag which stood poised for battle.

"So let's see what you got, Aberdeen!"

She sent out both her pokémon at once? That wasn't what he meant. But Aberdeen shrugged and unclipped two of this own pokéballs from his belt. A Honedge and Chespin came out, the former buzzing in annoyance at the rain and the latter opening up his toothy mouth to catch raindrops happily.

"I meant that we would pick our pokémon and send it out at the same time so that no one could pick theirs with a type advantage in mind," Aberdeen clarified and scratched the back of his head. "Now that's kind of hard to avoid. But since I'm the challenger, I'll pick pokémon first. Honedge, I choose you!"

Chespin backed up to stand behind his trainer's feet while Honedge pulled her blade from the sheath in a battle ready stance in the air in front of him.

That's a strange looking Pokémon, I've never seen one of those before thought Sarah as she looked towards the floating Sword.

"I think I'll go with Poliwag for this one" said Sarah as she looked over at Ab. Fennekin took a few steps back and snuggled up to Sarah's feet while Poliwag stood inside the makeshift arena, ready for the battle which was about to commence.

Sarah looked over at Ab once again but this time she clenched her fist tight. Clenching her fist was a habit that she had gotten into because of her father. He used to do it when he battled and she now followed suit.

"I hope your ready Aberdeen, cause I'm not gonna go easy on you!" shouted Sarah.

"Okay," Aberdeen shrugged with a smile, not really worried. "Honedge, use that cool Swords Dance!"

Honedge glared at him, still a bit angry that she would have to take orders. But then her eye rolled and the other one that was facing Poliwag sharpened as she started whirling the sheath around her while waving her blade mysteriously up and down in the rainy wind. A strange gleam came from the pokémon. Aberdeen figured that must be the move powering her up.

What kinda command was that? "cool Swords Dance". This guy doesn't seem too worried about this battle. thought Sarah as she watched the Honedge dance from side to side in the rain.

"Poliwag use hypnosis!" shouted Sarah before the small Pokémon closed its eyes and small circular wave's started to appear from the swirl on its belly. The waves lazily floated towards Honedge on the other side of the field. Sarah waited anxiously for Ab's response. Time to see if he's taking this seriously or not.

As the waves hit Honedge, she stopped her twirling dance and blinked as if shocked. Then her eyelids slowly started drooping... until Aberdeen smacked her back into an awakened state with his voice.

"Oi! You are a ghost sword! How can ghosts or swords even fall asleep?" his sharp voice rang through the light rain.

Honedge shook her head and blinked several times. Right. True that. No time for sleeping. The rest of the waves bounced off her steel blade.

"That's more like it," Aberdeen nodded. "Now make use of that dance. Fury Cutter!"

The sword pokémon now lunged forward through the air to reach the water pokémon with a swift and almost careful swing of her blade.

The swift swing of Honedge's blade came swooping down and slashed Poliwag right across the center of his body breaking the Pokémon's concentration and also knocking it over.

What?! That move should have worked. At least it always has in the past. Maybe this guy is better than I thought ... either way I gotta get an attack in now

"Poliwag! Let's go. Use Water Gun" The small tadpole pokémon got back up onto his feet before firing a solid stream of water towards the Honedge.

It hit straight on and almost knocked Honedge's sheath out of her textile arm... or whatever her piece of cloth should be referred to. The force of the stream had also blistered her a bit, and despite having rain all around her already, it didn't hurt any less.

"Wow, that was powerful!" Aberdeen commended. "You'll have to be swifter. Keep going!"

Honedge didn't waste any more time glaring at her opponent and already before Ab had said the command she was heading forward again, this time swinging her blade with a bit more force, spurred on by the power of the Swords Dance.

The attack once again hit Poliwag, although this time with a lot more force. The little pokémon was swept right off his feet and launched much further back this time. Sarah gritted her teeth and watched her poor pokémon struggle to raise itself back up. Poliwag stood up but it was clear to see that the attack had taken its toll.

"Poliwag, don't give up on me now. I know you still have some fight left in you. Attack with Water Gun one more time"

Poliwag positioned himself back into the field and locked its sights on Honedge. He frowned before shooting another solid stream of water towards Honedge.

Again, Honedge had the will and guts to take the attack straight on. Unfortunately, she didn't have the power to withstand the blistering water. When the attack subsided, Aberdeen found his pokémon swaying in the air before plumping down onto the wet ground.

"Oh no," he said and walked up to her. He carefully slid her blade back into the sheath she still clasped hard with her blue cloth. "Well, we've gotta work a bit on your speed I think. But you were really cool indeed with that Sword Dance!" he said and stroke Honedge gently with a smile before sending her back inside her pokéball and stepping back to Chespin.

"That was my newest pokémon," he shrugged. "She's pretty cool though, isn't she?"

"You're telling me! I've never even seen that pokémon before, so yeah she's definitely pretty cool" Sarah said as she smiled over at Ab.

Looks like the next pokémon is gonna be his Chespin. That adorable little thing! It's just so cute. Sarah mumbled to herself with her grin widening as the thoughts passed through her mind.

She looked down at Poliwag and could see that he was clearly hurt. It was probably wise to switch out here but Poliwag still had some fight left and could inflict some quick damage before Ab's grass type knocks him out. That quick damage would definitely soften up Chespin for Fennekin.

"I assume you're going with your Chespin now then?" Sarah shouted across to Ab.

"Yeah, that's the plan. He's my first pokémon. And he fights... a bit differently from Honedge," Ab replied and shot a smile down at Chespin, who winked back, both of them remembering the odd battle at Violet gym. "You're not keeping Poliwag in battle, are you?" he then added towards Sarah, an eyebrow raised.

"Hmm, maybe I shouldn't. He's pretty beat up. Maybe I should retreat him yeah." Sarah replied as she reached down and grabbed Poliwag's poke ball from her belt. She shot the beam of red light towards Poliwag which retracted him back into the poke ball. She smiled for a second before she clipped the ball back onto her belt.

"Alright Fennekin, you're up. So then … my first pokemon against your first pokemon. Let's do this Aberdeen."

Fennekin let out a little squeak before it skipped away from Sarah's feet and headed onto the battlefield. Sarah had to redeem herself after that humiliating defeat at the hands of team rocket. Her father would be most unimpressed if he knew that she let herself get defeated like that. She would have to get stronger in order to take them on again, and her training started here ... with Ab.

Aberdeen thought about how to do this for a moment. Attack head on and try to defeat the fox before it blew fire? Or go the slow and steady and trickier way. As he thought that, a smile crept onto his face. As if it even was a choice. One option was much more fun than the other. Besides, the rain made the grass pokémon feel eager while it might dull Fennekin's will over time.

"Chespin... Try avoiding any fire, okay?" he said before calling out the first order, curious about how Sarah would handle it. "Use Leech Seed!"

Chespin quickly shot out glowing seeds from his mouth which flew towards the Fennekin in the rain, ready to latch onto its fur and bind in with its energy sucking powers.

"Quick Fennekin, burn those seeds before they hit you. Use Ember" shouted Sarah as the seeds raced towards the pokémon.

Fennekin lowered herself down and growled before releasing a stream of fire from her mouth. The fire soared across the field and made contact with the seeds in the middle. The contact resulted in a small ball of fire being created in the center between the two pokémon. The small ball erupted launching heat all across the field. It wasn't anything major, just a small increase in heat for a few seconds before the weather carried it away.

Chespin smiled wider, challengingly. A smart opponent, eh?

"Okay, different strategy," Aberdeen decided. "Rollout!"

Chespin obeyed immediately, as usual, and curled up into a ball with his thick back skin facing outwards. The jump he took just before helped him build up speed as he rolled quickly towards Fennekin on the dirty road.

But only a second later, Aberdeen shouted something else: "Turn left!"

Again, Chespin obeyed without question, albeit desperately trying to figure out his trainer's plan as he kept rolling in a circle around the fox instead. But aberdeen smiled broadly. "Just like that, keep going!"

Hmm … what's he playing at? Why didn't he just hit Fennekin straight on with that Rollout? thought Sarah as she watched Chespin circle around Fennekin like a hungry vulture circles around its prey.

"Nothing else for it. Fennekin, time to heat things up with Flame Charge!" she shouted as she continued to watch Chespin roll around and around.

Fennekin once again lowered herself down before her body was coated with a layer of flames. Chespin was moving fast, there was no guarantee that this attack would hit but it was worth a shot at least. Fennekin watched Chespin circle around her several times before she lunged forward.

Despite Chespin's speed at this point, the attack hit and knocked him back and made him hit a tree close to the road. He bounced back and up into the air, but Aberdeen could see the trail of smoke behind him and the slightly burnt skin, and frowned. Clever moves or not, Chespin was still a rather fragile grass pokémon when faced with someone who could summon fire. They would have to be swift.

Almost running closer to the battle himself in an urge to stand with his pokémon, Aberdeeen shouted: "Strike Fennekin with Rollout!"

Chespin still had focus and like any pokémon used to using the Rollout move, he could manuever well enough. The spinning, slightly fizzing ball of spiky skin came tumbling down towards Fennekin from above.

Chespin landed straight down on top of Fennekin which knocked the poor pokémon down onto the ground with the force from the attack. The small fox pokémon slowly raised herself back onto her feet before waiting for Sarah's command. Rollout had landed a mighty hit on Fennekin, the pokémon's heavy breathing and struggle to remain upright was a clear indication of this. Weakness to fire or not, Chespin was strong and so was his trainer Ab. These guys weren't messing around, Sarah's previous thought about Ab not taking the battle seriously was soon retracted.

"Just hang in there Fennekin! Use Ember" shouted Sarah as she clenched her fist even tighter.

Her eyes light up with passion as she watched Fennekin fire the stream of flames towards Chespin who was now back on Ab's side of the field. It was one thing to lose a battle but to lose two in a row was something she would be deeply upset over, not to mention her father as well.

"Keep rolling, straight ahead!" Aberdeen shouted almost immediately, his usual cheerful demeanor suddenly gone. The words he had learned at the trainer academy and violet gym echoed in him. He had to try to win. Regardless if he succeeded or not.

Chespin really wanted to hold up and breathe, but once again he loyally obeyed and rolled to face the Ember head-on. The Rollout attack shot through the scorching flames, heading straight for the fox again.

"NO!" shouted Sarah as Chespin came flying through the flames parting them in half and headed straight for Fennekin.

"Dodge it Fennekin" she added as fast as she could but alas it was too late. Chespin came crashing into Fennekin with a lot more force this time and knocked the little fox back to Sarah's feet. The little fox lay there motionless. Fennekin was knocked out … Aberdeen was the winner.

"No … " Sarah muttered as she reached down and pulled Fennekin's poke ball off her belt before shooting the red beam at her which returned her back inside the ball.

She could feel her eyes welling up a she held Fennekin's ball in her hand. She placed the ball back on her belt and put on a brave face as she raised her head up and looked over at Ab. She had lost … twice in a row. She felt so embarrassed, what would her father say if he saw this? She swallowed a lump in her throat and tried to keep the tears at bay.

But on the other side of the field, a Chespin in pain stumbled backwards before it finally fell down and became silent. Aberdeen rushed up to him.

"Chespin... Oh, fire's too much for you still. Don't worry pal. You did great in battle." He sent the little creature back into its pokéball before standing up and smiling with a sigh at Sarah, whisking away some annoying drops falling from his fringe.

"That was fun!" he said to her. "Seems it's a draw between Fennekin and Chespin... But since your Poliwag knocked out my Honedge, I suppose we could call you the actual winner! How about that, eh?"

He beamed towards her, admittedly feeling a little sting from not having bested this trainer with Chespin nor Honedge. But he wasn't going to let that put him down. He never did.

Ab's Chespin fainted … it was a draw. Sarah looked on in shock as Ab returned Chespin to his ball. A draw was certainly better than losing. She quickly dried her eyes as best she could, hoping that Ab didn't notice her.

To her surprise Ab actually classed her as the winner because of Poliwag knocking out his Honedge. She had completely forgotten, Poliwag was still able to battle, he was weak sure but he could still stand on two feet. Sarah couldn't help but smile as she walked over towards Ab. Both of them we're now soaking at this point. It mattered little to Sarah though, she just had the best battle in ages so she wasn't too worried about the rain.

She walked up and stood in front of Ab before speaking. Her eyes faintly glistening from the tears previously, she just hoped he wouldn't pay attention to that.

"Thank you Aberdeen. That was the best battle I've had yet. You fought well and it's kind of you to say that I'm the victor but I just don't feel right accepting that. Sure Poliwag can still battle but I think I'm gonna go ahead and call it a draw. You fought well if not better than me, if it wasn't for Fennekin I would have lost that battle for sure. Thank you. So ... I guess this is where we part ways?"

Aberdeen watched the girl without saying anything for a few seconds, then nodded, still with a kind smile. "Okay then. A draw it is. And yeah... I suppose. But before you go..." He let out a little laugh. "What's your name?"

"My name? Oh I didn't tell you my name. Silly me. I'm Sarah. Maybe I'll meet you again someday, Aberdeen? Then we can battle again, but we'll be ready for each other," Sarah replied with a smile but also shying away due to embarrassment of forgetting to tell Ab her name.

"Sarah!" Aberdeen said, as if tasting the name. "I like it! We'll definitely meet again. Thanks again for the battle, Sarah!"

And with one last bright smile and shake of his rain-wet head, he pulled his hood back up and left the road to go east. But this time it wasn't to find a wild pokémon to battle. It was getting darker and he'd better find some place to put up his tent before he couldn't see anything at all.

Sarah watched Ab drift further into the distance before she herself decided to head south. Heading south would take her to the next gym and hopefully she'd get a lead on her attackers at the museum there. She looked up to the sky, made sure she had her pokémon with her before she started jogging south.

-----------------
Sarah pressed a button on her watch and a blue police phonebox started to slowly appear in front of her. It was of course the Tardis! She jumped into the Tardis and slowly started to fade away. She and her pokémon headed off on their next adventure, what time period? No-one knows yet. Find out next time on Dragon Ball Z ...

Aberdeen Montany
chapter 5 : Route 32

The rain was at last letting up a bit, when Aberdeen found a suitable spot in a clearing not too far from the road. He pulled up the little package that was supposedly the hyper-technological tent from his bag and scratched his head. So, there was a little green button right there. He might as well push it.

Immediately, the package flew out of his hands and down onto the ground. In mere seconds time, a tent big enough for at least two people to lie down in had materialized, as if blown up by an unseen pump. It had a shiny silvery color that sort of reflected the surrounding area. Almost like a camouflage! Aberdeen nodded, pleased with his investment, remembering how he had paid all the money he got from the kids several days ago. Days ago... He had only been on this journey for days. So much had happened that it already felt like a lifetime.

With the help of Whismur and Pidgey, he manually punched down the four little metal pieces that had fallen out, to hold the tent to the ground with lines in the slight wind. Didn't want to blow away with the tent while he was asleep, after all. He let Chespin and Honedge rest inside their pokéballs for the night, thinking that they would prefer the cozy, mysterious interior of the spheres rather than a questionably comfortable forest floor. As he crawled inside the tent to check it out though, he was pleasantly surprised to see that it was certainly worth all the money. The space wasn't huge, but a tiny but efficient light sat in the pointy roof above his head and the floor consisted of a decently soft yet thin mattress. With his sleeping bag, he'd do fine for the night here.

He decided to not make a fire, since it was so wet, and pulled out some water and sandwiches for late dinner instead. Whismur joined him inside the tent, but Pidgey merely nibbled a little on Aberdeen's sandwich before perching herself on top of the tent like a little featherball. She wasn't really a creature of the night, but she sure wasn't afraid of it either.

Sarah Walter - Route 32
Homesick

Sarah kept jogging along the road heading south, slowing herself down gradually before finally coming to a stop. She hunched over and tried to catch what was left of her breath. As much as she didn't want to admit it, she would have to camp out along the route and wait until morning before proceeding to the next town. She didn't have a tent or any sort of shelter to make the task less daunting. She would have to sleep under the trees tonight, not the most ideal solution but it would have to do. She raised herself back up and accepted the fact that there was no way she would make it to the next town before the sun sets. Sarah looked around and found a small sheltered area among the trees just off from the road. She looked around the road and once she seen that no-one was around, she slowly walked into the bushes and headed to the small sheltered area.

She walked over to the trees and looked up, there was plenty of leaves and branches, more than enough to provide some shelter against Mother Nature but not completely. The heavy downpour earlier had managed to punch its way through the leaves and soak the ground beneath. Sarah placed her hand on the ground and tested the condition of it before letting out a small, frustrated sigh. She stood staring at the ground for a minute, thinking about what was the best thing to do in this situation. She paced over and back, kicking and swiping her feet along the grass every so often to vent her frustration. She stopped moving and stood back, looking up at one of the trees. The best option right now was to climb that tree and find some sort of place among the branches which accommodated a fifteen year old girl, and which allowed for some form of comfort. She started to clamber up the tree, finding areas for her feet and hands in order to of course propel herself upwards. She didn't have to climb for very long before she found some thick branches which were conveniently laid out in a fashion which allowed and supported someone to sit there, granted it wasn't very comfy, not at all … but it was better than sitting on top of the wet grass.

Sarah adjusted herself into position and tried to make herself as comfortable as possible. A difficult task given the situation but she did the best she could. She was able to lay back to a certain degree while her feet dangled in the air. She wasn't very high up so the danger of falling wasn't Sarah's worst concern right now, especially since her feet was pointing towards the ground. If she did slip, her feet would allow her to land upright without any trouble. Sleeping in the tree however is a different story, if Sarah fell asleep, who knows what way she might fall out. If her body was to slump forward while she was asleep and she fell out, well it certainly wouldn't end to well. Sarah knew that falling asleep in a tree was a terrible idea, once again thanks to information she received from her father. She was merely sitting there until the grass dried, somewhat. The rain had finally eased up, so it wasn't all bad. Sarah was still pretty soaked though from the battle earlier and she wanted to try and dry off as best she could, so sitting in the wet grass certainly wasn't going to help that. A sharp cold breeze sent a shiver down Sarah's spine so she clutched her two arms and brought them close in together to try and stay as warm as possible.

In true Sarah fashion she forgot to pick up her jacket when she knocked into Ab. Sometimes she could just hit herself because of how clumsy she was, but there was no time for that now, she had to try and stay warm. She would use Fennekin in order to light a fire but unfortunately she was knocked out in the battle with Ab so she would have to wait a little longer before calling Fennekin out of her Poke ball.

Sarah lay back staring up at the sky while she kicked her legs which dangled carelessly off the branch. There was plenty of thoughts running through her mind. Things such as the battle with Ab, the two goons at the museum, her pokémon, lighting a fire, the fact that her clothes were pretty soaking but these weren't exactly her biggest concern. The biggest concern for Sarah right now was surviving the night. Never mind a fire to stay warm, how was she going to stay safe in the dead of night? What if a pokémon comes along and attacks her while she's sleeping on the ground? Sarah swallowed a lump in her throat at the thought of this. She wasn't used to camping out on her own. Even having her team right now would be better than sitting in total silence, at least they could protect her. Sarah stopped looking at the sky and raised herself up, her vision now firmly fixed on the ground as well as her thoughts firmly fixed on one thing … home.

Christina kept her head ducked down as she ran through the undergrowth of the forest, clutching her bag tightly against her chest to keep it from being thoroughly soaked by the rain pouring down through the treetops above. She was panting as she swerved to avoid some low-hanging branches, as well as not wanting to go through a couple of bushes in her way. The path she had been following was nowhere to be seen, -again-, as she had decided to take a shortcut in order to try and make it to her destination quicker.

Damnit, damnit, damnit! I knew I should've stayed put! Ugh, where's the center?! Chris complained to herself as she ran through the semi-thin forest. She had been waiting at the museum for the weather to clear up, and when it seemed like it wouldn't rain for a while, she had taken her chance and made a run for it in order to try and get to the center for a good, dry night's sleep. However, it looks like luck wasn't on her side.

The girl just managed to duck under another branch seemingly coming out of nowhere, her clothes and hair completely soaked from the rain. She had at least had the foresight to pull Sindy back into her ball before starting her trek, but it was a little comfort with how cold and wet she was feeling. Squinting through her half-shut eyes, the trees seemed to thin a little and her heart began racing in the hopes of reaching the center.

However, as she broke away from the trees, she blinked her eyes in surprise as she realized she was not at the center, but rather in a small clearing with a weird sort of... reflection-y structure dead ahead of her. "What the...?"

Next thing she knew, she had a face full of squeaking bird, to which she proceeded to lift her arms up to shield her face, screaming in surprise.

Startled by the noise, Aberdeen and Whismur came tumbling out from the reflection-y structure that was his tent. What he saw was Pidgey in the process of fending off the clearing from a human being with long, ginger hair and clothing soaked from the rain.

"Pidgey! Stay down, it's okay!" he shouted and waved his hands around. "I'm really sorry about that, I hope she didn't scratch you or anything," he added to the girl when Pidgey let up and flew back to perch herself on top of the tent.

The light was dim under the clouded evening sky in the forest, so Aberdeen didnt' quite see the girl's face.

Panting as the Pidgey flew off again, Chris was finally able to lower her arms, squinting a little at the dim light coming from within the, what she assumed to be a tent now, illuminating the figure in front of her. Her eyes slowly widened as she realized who the voice belonged to, taking a step or two closer.

"... Deen? Deen, is that you?"

Confused, Aberdeen took a step to the side to not shadow the person in front of him, while memories from days ago connected inside his brain. Finally, he cracked up into a pleasantly surprised smile.

"Tina? Hello!" he laughed and blurted out the first next thing that came to his mind. "You look a bit wet."

Christina smiled brightly in return, lifting a hand to faintly wave at him, looking more like a drowned Rattata than anything else. "Heh, yeah. I mean, it -is- raining, and I didn't really pack a tent, so..." She paused, looking back at his tent, biting her lower lip before looking to Aberdeen once more. "Is there... uhm, room for one more in there?"

Aberdeen looked back and forth from the girl to the tent for a few moments like a dumb ape.

"Oh," he then said. "Yes, yes of course! Whismur is tiny and the others are inside their pokéballs. Come in and get those wet clothes off!"

He only grinned for a second after that before his cheeks went red. "I don't mean like that! I meant, it's not raining inside the tent. So, uh, that's a plus. For being inside it rather than outside it. Right?"

Chris raised her brows for a moment before giggling, shaking her head softly, however unable to prevent her own cheeks from darkening a little. "Hey, as long as I can get in there, I can forgive you for whatever you'd say."

With that and a wry little grin from the girl, Chris scurried over to climb into the tent, making sure to take off her shoes and her large pack before climbing properly into the tent, taking herself a seat to the side while working on pulling off her drenched socks, her expression wrinkling into concentration as the wet fabric stuck to her skin. "You have no idea how much you've saved my butt, Deen."

He crawled in next to her and sat down with crossed legs, Whismur hopping up onto his lap. The high-tech tent was strangely roomy even with two people inside it. Or perhaps Aberdeen had subconsciously sat himself down very close to the wall to give Christina her space.

"I think I do have an idea," he said and rustled his own fringe so that drops of water dripped down onto a displeased Whismur's head. "But you're welcome any time! I mean, it's nice to see a familiar face again. Feels like ages ago but it was really just a couple of days, wasn't it? In Violet."

"Yeah..." Christina began, finally managing to pull off her socks, which she laid out in front of her, glancing to Aberdeen with a thoughtful smile. "I guess alot's just happened for the both of us during that time. It's really nice to see you again though."

She then proceeded to pull off her gloves, tossing them besides her socks and then grabbing her shirt, as if to unbutton it, at which point, she paused and glanced back at Aberdeen. "Uhm. I hope you don't mind me undressing, but if I don't, my clothes are going to stay wet until I can get to the center, tomorrow. So I sort of need Sindy to heat them up for me... if that's okay?"

"Uuh..." Aberdeen mumbled, his cheeks bordering on red again. "I suppose that's fine!" he said and turned his head away the slightest bit. "I mean, Sindy. The tent is flameproof... I think? Considering what I payed for it, it'd better be."

He suddenly noticed that he was looking like he was talking to Whismur since he was staring down into his pokémon's blinking eyes as he talked. He shook his head and looked out the opening of the tent instead, which was not entirely zipped down to allow some fresh air in. Of course, the weird tent had perfectly good ventilation without that but Ab didn't realize it.

"So, have you done anything exciting?" he asked casually.

"Well," Christina began as she started removing her top, looking down to focus on the undressing. "Back at the ruins of Alph, I actually found an underground maze, where I caught a Bagon! That was pretty exciting. Aside from that, I had some battles here and there, but nothing... really that amazing to speak of." Her thoughts trailed back to Falkner and she quickly shook her head as she tossed her top next to her socks and gloves, now working on her shorts, wriggling a little on the spot to peel them off. "Ech, wet clothes are horrible."

"Need help?" Aberdeen asked a bit too quickly, but innocently, knowing very well how annoying wet clothes could be, even though his weren't usually as tight as Christina's seemed to be.

"Oh, uhm... sure!" She smiled, her cheeks darkening a little. She'd only really been dressed in her underwear around her parents and her brother, but in her head, it wasn't that big of a deal. It's not like she was naked or anything. And she did have a towel she could use as a blanket, so...

She shifted around and half-lay on her back, propped up on her elbows, with her legs stretched out in front of her, sort of diagonally through the tent, her shorts clinging rather snugly to her thighs. "Alright Deen, see if you can get them off. They're a pain, but I'll try and help."

Aberdeen had only moved an inch towards her before his brain registered that this was a bit weird. But he didn't want Tina to catch a cold and she didn't seem to think there was anything strange about this, so Ab put on a blank face and scooted closer to the girl's side before simply grabbing the bottom rim of her shorts and leaning back to pull them off. He found himself wondering why she hadn't put on a bigger jacket to cover the small pants and avoid this, before the shorts came off all at once and threw him backwards. Luckily, the wall of the tent was soft. He sat up again with a triumphant grin on his lips (and to be honest, a bit relieved that it was over) and Christina's dripping shorts dangling from one hand.

He chose to not think about the fact that she was now laying in his tent in only underwear. That wasn't the sort of stuff a 14 year old should be thinking about anyways... Right?

As the shorts came almost flying off, Chris suffered a minor bit of backlash, but quickly managed to sit up again, crossing her legs and smiling brightly at Aberdeen. "Thanks, Deen! Oof, that's alot better. Now I just need Sindy out here and we're good to go."

She shifted around and reached over to her pack, opening it and picking out Sindy's Pokéball, seemingly completely fine with sitting in Ab's company in just her underwear. She glanced over at him as she sat back down. "You can just toss them over to the rest, Deen. Unless you're planning on keeping them." She added, with a wry smile.

At those last words, Aberdeen tossed the pants away as if they were electrified. They landed on top of Whismur, who had been standing next to Tina and was now flailing about from the sudden assault.

Aberdeen just laughed a little and scratched the back of his head before remembering something Christina had said. "Hang on, you were in the Ruins of Alph as well? I had the strangest adventure there," he said and sighed. "Met some feisty pokémon and some unusual people. Well, one of them was really nice, Melody she was called. She was from the same town as me, actually..."

Christina smiled down at Whismur, picking the shorts off of its head and tossing them next to the rest of the clothes, finally letting Sindy out of her Pokéball before turning to Deen with raised brows. "Wait, you met Melody? Oh my god, I met her on my first day of my journey! She's my friend!"

Sindy, meanwhile, stretched out and looked around with her squinted eyes, quickly noticing Whismur. She gave off a couple of squeaks, waving her little arm at the pink ball, clearly happy to see him.

Whismur was a bit startled, only vaguely remembering the Cyndaquil from before. He nervously waved hello to the imposing, stronger pokémon and managed to only shudder once.

Meanwhile, Aberdeen leaned his head to the side thoughtfully. "But Melody started in Cherrygrove as well..." His eyes wandered from Christina to her shiny starter pokémon and he suddenly connected the dots in his head. "Tina, are you on a mission from professor Pine as well?"

Blinking at the question, Christina tilted her head to the side as well. "Yeah? How did you-" She paused for a moment before her eyes widened in realization, raising a hand to point at him. "Oh my god, no way! You are too?"

To this, Aberdeen could only laugh heartily. "I can't believe we didn't realize that last time we met," he said. "How many people run around with shiny, rare pokémon like ours after all? And Melody. And Vincent..." He wrinkled his nose a bit at the mention of the last name.

"Heh, yeah, I guess you're right. I just didn't really think about it, is all. That's so cool though!" She smiled brightly, glancing down at Sindy, remembering why she had let the little 'mon out. "Oh! Sindy, can you do me a favor? Could you go over and dry my clothes, please?"

The Cyndaquil looked up at her trainer, then over at the pile of wet clothes. She then puffed out her chest and squeaked out before waddling over into the middle of the small pile, the patches on her back flaring up into flames as she proceeded to sit down and let the heat do the rest.

Christina glanced back to Aberdeen with a smile, planting her hands in her lap. "Why don't you let Chespin out? I'm sure he'd love to see Sindy again. And what exactly -did- happen in the ruins between you three? Melody mentioned Vincent saving her from something...?"

"Chespin is kind of resting now. He was in a battle earlier. And the ruins..." Aberdeen shook his head. "We were on a tour together and the ruins caved in and stuff. And suddenly Melody disappeared, but Vincent wanted to just leave her. He didn't think she was really gone. But it was I who convinced him to come and look with me and when we found Melody... Well, she was kind of prisoner to this weird Smeargle kingdom. Deep in the ruins. And that guy didn't want to try and talk with them so he pretty much slashed his way through hordes of Smeargle to get to her, but of course they wouldn't really have made it out without Whismur's attack at the right moment..."

Ab suddenly halted his talk and noticed that he was clenching his fist. He wasn't normally feeling competitive like this. Did the thought of Vincent do this to him? Only that guy, that awful guy could make Aberdeen angry, it seemed. He let out a breath to calm himself down and his fist softened. Whismur put a tiny paw on it as if to comfort him.

"So I guess Vincent saved Melody, yeah," he said instead, smiling up into Christina's eyes, then quickly changing the topic. "I guess Chespin could pop out for a while just to say hi."

He picked up his shiny starter's pokéball from his belt (at least he was still fully dressed, albeit a bit wet too still) and pressed the button to let a third pokémon materialize inside the tent. It was starting to get a little bit crowded.

Chespin came out and blinked as if he had been asleep inside the ball. He looked around, seeming a little bit sore but not in the worst shape. When he saw Christina, he smiled broadly and when he spotted the Cyndaquil sitting beside her, heating the clothes up, Chespin literally jumped over Aberdeen's legs to get to her and say hello with a squeak.

Sindy perked up as Chespin was freed, and as the rodent leapt over to her, she gave out a cheerful little squeak of her own, her stubby little arms waving excitedly, smiling as she waddled a bit closer to him, though staying close to the clothes, letting off a series of lower, mumbled squeaks as she regailed their adventures for him.

Christina, however, raised her brows at the story being told by Aberdeen, pulling her legs up to her chest, with her arms wrapped around them to give the Pokémon a bit more space. "Wow. Sounds like a pretty crazy adventure. I just got lost with some guy in the labyrinth for like, an hour." She paused, shaking her head a little. "I really don't know what to make of Vincent. He seems like a huge jerk, but at the same time..."

Ab brightened up noticeably when he heard that at least Christina shared his sentiments towards that guy. At least a bit.

Christina paused before shaking her head, putting on her smile again, glancing down at Chespin and Sindy before looking back up at Ab. "Hey, you haven't named any of your Pokémon yet, have you? I read somewhere that if you give them a name, it's much easier to bond with them."

Aberdeen opened and closed his mouth a couple of times dumbly, before scratching his head again. "Yeah... I just never thought of it. To me, their names are Chespin and Whismur, you know. But... I suppose it's a bit as if someone would refer to me as Human instead of Aberdeen, now that you mention it."

Chespin paused his chatting with Sindy to look up at his trainer at the mention of his 'name'. Ab hesitated.

"What did you name your pokémon, Tina? Besides Sindy."

"Well..." She started, glancing down at the three 'mon now all glancing up at the two of them. "I only -really- have one other Pokémon... if you discount the spider that I did -not- catch and the two... weird Pokémon from the labyrinth. Anyway, the Bagon I mentioned earlier. I named him Conan. Seemed to fit him. It's not something you have to think really hard about, you just sort of... have to feel it click, you know?" She smiled, reaching over to pat his shoulder. "Whatever you're both comfortable with."

When she touched his shoulder at the same time as she talked about 'feeling it click', Aberdeen couldn't help but feeling a little tingle inside. He quickly closed that thought away though and nodded slowly.

"Okay. I can try then. I'm just not very good with this, I think. Or at least I've never really tried naming anything before. Let's start with Chespin then."

The pokémon turned to face his trainer and they both stared intensively into the eyes of the other for a few seconds. Then Ab broke away and shook his head. "Nope. Nothing comes to me. Let's try the others first."

He put a hand on Whismur's head, who shuddered a bit as he always did. "You're a great fighter but a real scaredy cat. I have no idea how to put that into a name. But how about, uh, Winter?"

"Awh, I like that." Chris commented, smiling down at the pink ball, shifting a little around to sit on her legs rather than having them pulled up to her chest. "What do you think? Do you like 'Winter'"? she asked while still looking at the Whismur.

Whismur, now dubbed Winter, didn't really react at first. But then he whimpered a bit and reached his tiny arms up to gingerly grab Aberdeen's hand and just hold it. Aberdeen found himself melting at the heartfelt gesture. Strange. Another trainer could make him angry and a little pokémon could make him soft. This journey was certainly making him feel alive. Just as it was meant to do.

"Okay then. Next is Pidgey. She'll be Pangea. Because... One day I hope she'll be big enough for me to ride on her back through the skies!" He winked at Christina.

A chirp was heard from the outside just before a wet featherball popped in through the still not fully closed opening. She gave Aberdeen a glare.

"Oh, you heard that, did you? Have you said you're sorry to Tina for startling her, by the way? Pangea?"

Pidgey, now Pangea, closed her eyes for a second before swallowing her pride and nodding towards Christina. That was probably as much of an excuse as she'd get. At least she seemed okay with the nickname, as she settled on the soft, warm floor next to Sindy to try and steal some heat from her flames.

Sindy didn't seem to mind sharing at all, in fact, shuffling her rear a little further towards Pangea to provide a bit more heat. She was looking up at Aberdeen expectantly, glancing briefly at Chespin.

Christina giggled and shook her head, both at Aberdeen's joke and the wink, as well as the dripping ball of feathers hopping into the tent. She smiled and waved her hand dismissively. "Nawh, don't worry about it. She was just trying to protect you, I think it's sweet. But yeah, Pangea's a nice name for her! Who's next?" Christina continued, smiling excitedly. It was clear that the naming of someone's Pokémon meant alot to her, and she was happy to see Ab interacting with his Pokémon like this.

"Next is Honedge. Oh, you haven't met her! She's really special. I met her in the ruins and she helped saving Melody and all. I guess I should name her Hero, really. Or Heroine? Nah, that sounds like a drug." He nodded thoughtfully. "Do you think Hero is okay, Christina? Won't take her out inside the tent though. She'd probably rip it apart from seeing all you strangers, haha."

Chris' eyes lit up at the mention of Honedge, clapping her hands together. "You caught a Honedge?! They're -so- cool! I mean, I don't think I could train one, but I love them so much!" While still smiling, she tilted her head thoughtfully to the side. "Hmm... Hero could work, but if it's a girl, then maybe you should choose a more feminine name. It could work though!"

Aberdeen thought about that, but then wrinkled his nose. "Why would she need a feminine name just because the pokédex classes her as a girl? That would be like naming Whism- I mean Winter something like Rambo. Not entirely fitting, you know?" he said with an excusing wink at the little bunny who still held his hand softly.

"I guess it's only you left then," he then said, turning to Chespin who stood next to Sindy and Pangea by Christina's clothes pile. The brown rodent looked up at his trainer expectantly with his toothy grin. "What to call you..."

Sindy was excitedly looking between Chespin and the two trainers, the flames on her back softly billowing back and forth, the tent now nice and warm despite the constant rain falling on the tent.

Christina shrugged her shoulders lightly. "I dunno, Hero just sounds like a sort of male name, like how Janice is more female than male. As I said though, I think it fits! Just ask her about it first, yeah? No sense in calling a Pokémon something they wouldn't like." She gave a playful grin and nudged Aberdeen with her elbow, which required her to lean a little over towards him, since he'd shuffled to the farthest edge of the tent for some reason.

"I guess," he said before clearing his throat and moving forward to sit beside Christina and reach out a hand towards Chespin. "Little partner, from this day on, I hope you'll be okay with being called Chocolate. You are such a chocolateish color compared to what you look like in the pokédex. So that should be unique enough! Plus, chocolate tastes really good, wouldn't you say?"

The brown Chespin's mouth formed an 'o' for a moment, before he shone up more brightly than ever before and shook Aberdeen's hand fervently. Winter had finally let go of the other hand and was now cheering unusually lively together with his teammate at their new names. Even Aberdeen couldn't help snickering at how adorable they looked.

Chocolate turned around and faced Sindy and Pangea, looking proud but giving away a bit of a nervous twitch as he blinked at her expectantly. He really did want them to approve of his new name. It would make or break his image now.

Pangea chirped calmly with an approving nod, whereas Sindy seemed just as happy as the others about Chespin's new name, albeit a bit more calmly. She squeaked out softly and shuffled a little closer, brushing her head softly against his shoulder as if tenderly congratulating him.

Chocolate seemed to shudder at the chaste action and smiled the widest smile Ab had seen on him yet. Then he suddenly stopped being chocolate-colored. Instead, both him and Sindy began glowing, a white light emanating from all over their bodies, lighting up the tent much more than the little light in the roof had.

Pangea and Winter hopped away from the shining pokémon while Aberdeen gasped and automatically held out an arm to his side as if to shield Christina from whatever might be coming. But after only a second or two, he realized what was happening.

"Tina..." he whispered. The girl was staring at the two glowing forms in front of them with her mouth hanging slightly open, awestruck at what she was seeing. She hadn't even thought about Sindy evolving, and now that it was happening, she could barely believe it.

"... Deen, they're..."

"I know!"

And slowly, the glow faded from the two Pokémon, leaving them blinking in surprise at the sudden transformation. Sindy had grown longer and slightly taller, more sleek and her eyes were actually open now. Chocolate on the other hand, was nothing that could be described as 'sleek' anymore. He had grown into a large, brown orb with a face and limbs, pretty much. Looking much like a chestnut on legs.

Aberdeen blinked and gaped for several seconds as silence came over the tent. Then he finally said the first thing that came to mind to Chocolate.

"Dude... Your new nose looks so silly."

The shock, awe and happiness that Christina was struggling to figure out in her jumbled mess of emotions at the moment, was quickly swept away at Ab's comment, sending her into a giggle-fit, which forced her to bend slightly forwards due to the stomach-cramps from laughing so hard. Aberdeen burst into laughter as well.

Sindy, seeming extremely excited about this new turn of events, looked from Chocolate, to Chris and Ab and back again, smiling as she tested out her new body by doing a quick run around both trainers, coming back to Chocolate's side. She looked at Ab and then back at Chocolate, giving him a nudge with her head as if telling him to prove how cool he was now.

Chocolate, however, crossed his arms over his chest and puffed himself up with an arrogant face as if to say that he didn't need to prove how cool it was. It should be a universal constant.

"That's awesome," Aberdeen said and even shook his head in impressed disbelief as he looked at the two new pokémon. "But... I'm sorry but you two are really too big now. "I'm retreating you all to your pokéballs, sorry."

His pokémon all looked disappointed, but at least Aberdeen didn't act right away. Instead he pulled his now biggest pokémon in for a hearty hug.

"Awh, I'm so happy for you, Sindy." Christina smiled as she raised a hand to gently rub the Quilava's chin, much to her pleasure. A soft rumble emitted from her throat, much like a purring cat, the flames now extending from the top of her head and all the way down her back. "I don't think my clothes are completely dry though... do you mind if Sindy stays out, Deen?"

Aberdeen rolled his eyes in pretended dismay but gave Christina a cheeky smile in response. "If you really must have dry clothes, I guess it's fine. I should put my own there too actually, if Sindy's fine with doing double the work."

Christina looked to Aberdeen with a wry smirk and her brows raised in reply, proceeding to half-bow mockingly. "Oh, thank you, good sir, for allowing me dry clothes. I shall repay the favor as soon as I am able!" She gave off a snicker and shook her head, gently pushing Ab's shoulder in a friendly manner.

After pushing back with a smile, Ab continued to his own pokémon: "But you guys, you're going down."

Pangea didn't protest as she was sucked back inside the pokéball. Chocolate just had time to do an elegant bow as a goodbye in the direction of Sindy and Christina before he was absorbed as well. But little Winter suddenly tugged on Aberdeen's shirt and seemed to be shuddering even though it was now rather warm and cozy inside the tent.

"You want to stay out?" Ab asked and got an eager nodding in reply. "Okay then. You haven't gone and tripled your size like some others here, so it's alright."

Winter seemed so relieved that he even stopped shuddering for a moment as he ran up to Aberdeen's backpack and started rummaging it to find his sleeping back, as to help out while Aberdeen started to pull his jacket off. It had kept most of the rain away from the black shirt he wore below so he opted to keep it on. Despite the girl next to him having removed her own. His trousers and socks were casually pulled off though, and put near the pile of clothes near Sindy's warmth.

Stretching out, Christina then shifted over to reach into the pack standing at the far edge of the tent, rummaging through it before pulling out a rather large, fluffy towel, which she began unrolling. Sindy decided to lay herself down, rather than stay sitting, resting her chin on top of her front legs, watching the three of them preparing to sleep.

As the humans got ready for bed time, Winter gingerly shuffled over to Sindy. He had been nervous from her strong personality already when she was a Cyndaquil, but now she was a bigger, stronger pokémon physically as well. Yet... She looked so fluffy and warm, and all Winter wanted was a nice place to sleep. Carefully, he sat down next to her long body as if to silently ask if it was okay to lean against her soft fur.

Blaine: Crazy Fishermen!

With the approaching dark clouds quickly gathering over the route Blaine had been doing his best to hurry along and get to the next town. However his map app showed that they were still some distance away. On checking the time to arrive he could only groan. He was going to get wet, that was it. He was going to get VERY wet. Thankfully as he ran along he did catch sight of what appeared to be a small shack. In fact, as he got closer he realized that he was on one end of a bridge. The red planks were already starting to be splattered by the rain drops and Blaine was already feeling the back of his shirt starting to get rather wet. He made a beeline to the small building and saw that it had a edging around the roof that would give him a bit of solace from the rain thankfully enough.

For Derpy he was playing around in the cool atmosphere… if playing meant rolling eagerly into the wet mud that was forming around him and completely coating his green body in the thick gunk. Even worse was when the water type began to make his way over to him.

"Hey, stay back!" Blaine said as he backed away, "Don't you DARE give me that look!"

The totodile's eyes glittered more and then… he pounced! He ended up smacking into the wall where he left a large muddy imprint on it. "TOTO!" The totodile wasn't that easily swayed out of his current activity as he began chasing his trainer around the shack. Blaine had longer legs and thus could, theoretically at least, be able to outpace Derpy quite easily. That wasn't the case at all as Derpy was bundled with energy and he jumped up and clung to his trainer's back.

"Come on Derpy!" Blaine protested as the water type rubbed himself against the fabric before dropping off and went to stand back in the rain. Blaine just groaned as he felt the cool wetness of the mud sinking past his clothes. He shuddered and found he had no choice now as he went out to the rain and tried to use that at least to clean off his clothing. Of course, as he stepped out it was only natural that he would end up bumping into someone, and that someone happened to be a middle aged man who had a fishing rod slung over one shoulder and wore a shirt that had all sorts of fish related stuff attached to it. He wasn't sure what most of it meant, but there were small plastic fish, some hooks, and other similar items clinging to it as he even had a hat with hooks that hung from the edges of it.

"Ah, another trainer coming through huh?" He asked with a cheery smile.

Blaine nodded at the question, "Yeah… don't trainers come through here?" He asked.

"They do, lots of them." The man said, "The name's Ellwood and most trainers pass us by. You see, we offer a challenge to trainers. Think you can take on a challenge?"

Blaine was about to speak when Derpy jumped up before him, gurgling wildly.

Ellwood chuckled, "Seems that you have one mon who is interested. The challenge is more along a marathon in a way. The rest of the guys are ahead on the bridge. I won't tell you how many, but we are lean and mean! We won't be pushovers to any trainer taking the challenge. If you can beat all of us, then you'll be getting… THIS!" He held out the rod he had slung over his shoulder, "This, my boy, is an old rod. This will help you actually fish out pokemon from lakes and most of those mon you can't find on dry land!"

Blaine looked down at Derpy who was happily nodding his head up and down at the idea, "Uh… sure." He said. "I can take your challenge."

"Excellent!" Ellwood said as he flashed a thumbs up at Blaine. "let me just get the boys set up. In about a minute or two head across the bridge and the challenge shall begin! Oh, when you start the challenge you can't back off and, say, head to a pokemon center mid challenge. You must complete it all in one go, else you'll have to restart right from the beginning! And to properly demonstrate your ability to take care of water type pokemon you'll only be allowed to use water types in this challenge." Ellwood headed across the bridge, his figure soon disappearing thanks to the heavy downpour now coming down.

Blaine took that minute of preparation to quickly head back under shelter as Derpy followed. "So… I can only use you then." Derpy seemed to take that idea very well as he jumped about happily. Blaine chuckled softly and looked over at the bridge that was sill covered in rain, "Hopefully this will clear the drizzle up." He said. "I don't think getting a cold out here would be good for our progress."

Derpy gurgled a bit and jumped about wildly on his feet, no doubt eager to begin. The rain still hadn't let up when a bell rang out. "Okay kid! We're ready for ya!"

Blaine made his way out as the rain pelted his clothes. Derpy danced about happily as they got onto the bridge. The wood creaked under Blaine's shoes as he found the first fisherman waiting. This one had a strange hat that had a kind of umbrella on the top, "Hey there kid. You ready to see what water types can do?"

Blaine blinked and looked down at Derpy, "I've seen quite a bit already with this guy."

The man smirked and pulled out a ball, "I'll only be using one pokemon. Come on out wooper!"

A strange blue creature appeared and Blaine pointed his dex at it, "Wooper. This Pokémon lives in cold water. It will leave the water to search for food when it gets cold outside." His dex buzzed out loud as Blaine nodded, "Alright… water type and a ground type. Alright Derpy, start off with a leer!" Derpy's eyes glowed red as he stared right at the wooper, and right on cue the mud fish shuddered, curling up a bit as it backed away.

"Wooper don't fall for that! Go for a water gun!" The wooper opened his mouth as he shot out a stream of water at the totodile, the effect wasn't that great as it was already raining and the water just caused Derpy to blink.

"Derpy, go for a bite attack!" The totodile cried out as he rushed forward and titled his head as his jaws snapped around the wooper's own head and using the strength in his neck, he lifted his foe up into the air. The wooper frantically flailed its tail and feet around. Derpy shook his head left and right, releasing his foe as he swung his head. The wooper sailed through the air and crashed into the water.

"Wooper, mud shot!" Blaine's opponent cried out. Out from the water the wooper jumped out, and at the apex of its jump it slapped out a ball of mud it had managed to gather on its tail tip. It threw the mud right at Derpy and the totodile cried out in surprise. He managed to veer his head so that the sticky substance instead struck him along the neck, but it still caused him to stumble back a bit.

"Derpy, another bite!"

The totodile charged forth and grasped his jaws around the wooper, this time with the wooper becoming slack in the large jaws. Derpy let him go and began to dance around happily. The fisherman withdrew his mud fish and pointed on ahead, "There are two more opponents for you, but with such a strong totodile I think you won't really have a challenge."

Blaine nodded, "Uh, thanks." He said as he made his way along, Derpy happily skipping alongside him. It wasn't long before his next opponent came into view. This fisherman was letting the rain pour all over him as he smirked at Blaine, "Well you'll be my opponent huh? You don't look that tough to me. Let's get started boy! Go Magikarp!"

The fisherman threw his ball forth as a red fish splashed about on the deck. "Magikarp. It is virtually worthless in terms of both power and speed. It is the most weak and pathetic Pokémon in the world."

Blaine blinked and looked at the fish that flopped about. "Uh… Derpy go up and bite it?"

Derpy calmly bit into the fish as he held it up and shook his jaws left and right.

"Magikarp splash him back!" The fisherman cried out.

The fish splashed uselessly in the totodile's jaws and it seemed that little effort caused it to faint quickly. Derpy dropped his foe as the man sighed, "This always happens." He muttered to himself. "Just… go on. One day he'll be a Gyrados… ONE DAY!"

Blaine quickly hurried along as his last opponent was waiting right near the edge of the bridge. The man casually tossed a pokeball up and down, "So you got through the others alright, but this time you're going against me! I won't be an easy cakewalk boy!"

Derpy narrowed his eyes as he growled softly. The man laughed at that, "Well your mon is ready for some action! Let the balls roll then!" The man threw out his ball as a large ball like fish appeared. "Qwilfish. The small spikes covering its body developed from scales. They inject a toxin that causes fainting."

Derpy growled as the qwilfish puffed up to try and intimidate the totodile. Derpy just gnashed his teeth as the fisherman held out a hand, "Qwilfish start out with Spikes!"

"Derpy go for a Leer!"

The qwilfish took in a deep breath and spat out several spikes that clattered on the bridge. No doubt those were obstacles clearly to slow down Derpy, but Blaine was suddenly hit with an idea. "Derpy, use water gun and wash them away!" The totodile opened his mouth as a stream of water splashed against the spikes. Some managed to be washed off and into the water below while others stubbornly stuck on. At the very least it had cleared up some room, but it had also opened Derpy up for a clear attack.

"Now poison sting!" The qwilfish took in a deep breath and spat out a purple thorn like substance that flew and pierced Derpy's chest. Depry was quick to pull it out and toss it aside as the fisherman smirked, "It might not have poisoned him now, but soon your totodile will become poisoned."

"We'll see about that. Depry, scary face!"

The totodile's eyes flashed as he puffed out his chest and glared down at the qwilfish, his eyes glowing a deep red as he parted his jaws to show off his teeth. The qwilfish wiggled on back a bit from the frightful sight. "Another poison sting!" The fisherman shouted out. The qwilfish shook its head and gathered the nerve to shoot another sharp projectile at the totodile, this one sticking into his hand. Derpy once more pulled it out, but as he did he grimaced and doubled over. "Totooo…" He groaned out as he gripped his stomach in pain.

"Ha! Poisoned him finally! Now we just have to wait out for the poison to finally cause him to faint!"

Derpy gritted his teeth and without wasting any time he rushed forth as his jaws clamped around the qwilfish as he swung his jaws about. He slammed his adversary onto the wooden dock but the fish puffed up in his mouth. Derpy let go and coughed a bit as some blood dribbled out from his jaw. If he had been mad before he was now furious as he let out an angry cry.

"Now we're getting started! Qwilfish use minimize!" The fish wiggled about on the wood as he suddenly began to shrink down! He steadily decreased until he was three-fourths of his original size. That did nothing to impress Derpy as he once more grabbed hold of the fish in his jaws despite his own bloodied tongue. He whipped his head about and let go as the fish slapped against the wooden planks.

"Another minimize!" The fish was now half its original size and as Derpy tried to grab it in his jaws again it actually managed to dive off to the side. Derpy gripped his chest in pain and stumbled a bit as the poison took its toll on him. "Minimize again!" The fish was now visible, but still rather small as it easily rolled away from Derpy's jaws as the attempt to bite missed completely. Derpy doubled over in pain as he began to wheeze a bit.

"Poison is quite a stubborn condition. I think your totodile will be going down soon."

Blaine glanced at Derpy. He was getting rather weak and as Derpy tried to get up he almost stumbled. Blaine looked back down as his dex as he brought up Derpy's moves and hastily scrolled through them. Well… there was one move that could help.

"Derpy! Rage!" Derpy's eyes flashed as he growled angrily and ran to the qwilfish, yet again doing his best to hit it. His kicks ended up missing and even a tail sweep completely missed as the puffer fish chuckled at the miserable attack. "Okay qwilfish, poison sting again!"

A purple spike flew out and stabbed into Derpy's chest. The totodile groaned loudly and doubled over, a bit of sweat working along down his face as he huffed loudly. It was plain obvious that Derpy was in trouble. The totodile weakly opened his jaws as a water gun shot out, though this too missed the qwilfish as finally the poisoned mon seemed to have enough. He fell onto the wooden planks with a dull thud and just lay there.

"Well, your mon wasn't enough." The fisherman stated, about to return his qwilfish when the totodile began to slowly push himself up. The water type gasped as he shakily moved his two arms to achieve just a bit of lift, only to have them fall underneath and cause his jaw to slam against the planks. He gritted his teeth though as he managed to lift his head up slowly, once more setting his hands down as he began to push his chest up. His body shook with each centimeter that he rose, but he still kept at it. He managed to finally get onto his knees, pausing as he took in shaky breaths. Blaine watched on as the totodile's knees buckles, slowly unfolding as he placed his feet down. He had to keep one hand down on the planks to keep his balance as he straightened his back a bit and softly huffed.

The fisherman chuckled, "Well, your mon doesn't like giving up." Derpy's head slowly turned up as he huffed a bit louder, the effort clearly draining him. "Well, he is quite the stubborn one. Haven't seen that spirit in quite some time."

Derpy just kept on huffing as the man nodded, "Well… I think your totodile should try and gain some more experience. He goes in with all power. As a trainer you need to also be the brains, see what is happening and act accordingly. There's still time in the day so you can busy yourself with some wild battles." He patted his rod, "As for me I'll be going fishing."

As he began to make his way Derpy tried to follow, only to collapse on his chest. "Easy…" Blaine said as he picked up his totodile. I have some potions. Let's heal you up first. Don't worry, we'll get him next time."

Derpy gurgled angrily as he closed his eyes wearily.

Melody Hughes and Vincent Baker
Route 32- A Troubled Morning

After a rather peaceful night's sleep, the rays of the early morning sun began to beam down on the small camp of Melody and Vincent. With a small yawn and stretch, the short girl began to stir, slowly sitting up with a small smile taking to her lips. She had slept amazingly well despite sleeping outside with no sleeping bag or an actual pillow aside from Blossom. The trainer figured that it must have had something to do with how exhausting the events at the ruins must have been.

Quietly, so as not to disturb Vincent or any of their Pokémon who were still sleeping, the girl decided to take a small walk over to a nearby lake she had spotted when she, Blossom, Hawk, and Napoleon had been gathering firewood the previous night. Upon reaching the lakebed, she knelt down scooped some of the water out and into her cupped hands, before splashing it on her face.

"I wonder if I can get Vinny to come here with our Pokémon..." she mused quietly to herself. "It's really nice here, and I bet Hanzo and Napoleon would love to go for a swim..."

The thought of such activities caused a wider smile to come to Melody's face. They were already getting close to Azalea Town anyways. She was sure that her friend would not mind taking one more small detour along the way. Getting quite excited at the prospect, Melody quickly rose back to her feet and made her way back to the campsite. Just as she expected, all of them were still sleeping peacefully at the campsite. In fact, neither Vincent or their four Pokémon had even stirred since she left.

"Wait.... Four...?" Melody questioned. She stepped out from the bushes and began to look around carefully.

Blossom was still snoozing peacefully in the grass. Hawk and Brian were both roosted in branches of the trees surrounding their encampment. Hanzo was laying right beside Vincent... But Excalibur and Napoleon were nowhere to be found.

"Napoleon...? Napoleon?!" Melody called out. She began to scramble around the campsite, looking behind some of the trees and in the bushes to see if maybe the Buizel had moved at some point during the night. However no matter where she looked, he just could not be found. Melody felt her stomach getting nauseous with worry as she quickly made her way to Vincent, shaking the boy lightly. "Vinny... Vinny, wake up!"

"Five more minutes...buzz off," Vincent said rolling away from Melody and burrowing himself deeper into the dirt to catch a few more precious minutes of sleep. The ground was cold and even if the fire dead, there was little heat to be gained from it. In other words, his sleep wasn't much of a rest and he needed whatever he could get. Melody's call for him to rise was barely more than a muffle to him and he figured in his half dazed state that anything she needed was barely important. The girl needed to figure things out herself and finding breakfast or whatever impending need she needed would be good experience for the road.

Melody did not give up though. In fact, Vincent's comment before rolling away only seemed to make the situation more tense for the girl. She began to shake the boy harder, trying again to rouse him from his sleep. "Vincent, please! Wake up!"

She hasn't called me Vincent since the first time she said my name. A strange detail to pick up on, but enough to get Vincent to slowly rise from his uncomfortable bed. Sitting up, Vincent cracked a number of his joints, stretching out the kinks before leaping up to his feet. The campsite looked...empty, but then again the fact the sun was up possibly just illuminated the true emptiness that he claimed the previous night. He stomped out the coals from the firing before whistling. Brian stirred awake and flew to Vincent's shoulder and Hanzo immediately forced himself away as if leaving a meditative state. "Oh right, Exaclibur doesn't know that sign," he said facepalming himself. Vincent shook his head around the camp. "That's strange, where did he go?"

"That's what I was trying to tell you!" Melody exclaimed, a very desperate look on her face as she spoke. The incerase in volume of her voice seemed to be enough to stir Blossom and Hawk from their sleep as well. The Bayleef slowly made her way over towards Melody while Hawk flew down from the branch he had been pirtched on and landed on the grass-type's back. "I can't find him or Napoleon! I looked all over the place, neither one of them are anywhere!"

The girl was practically shaking as she spoke, her heart was racing with fear in regards to where Napoleon could be. She looked around one more time, making sure she did not somehow over look the Buizel before looking back up at Vincent. It was a long shot, but she felt she had to ask.

"Vinny, please! Did you remember maybe seeing him go somewhere last night?" she asked quickly.

"Nah. I went to bed soon after you did," Vincent replied shrugging his shoulders and looking for his own Pokemon. Unlike Melody, he wasn't panicking. From what he expericenced, panic did not solve much. If anything, it made matters worse. It was best to let things play out. Sure, the heart racing and all the energy that anxiety can stir something up...but that only really helped when the cops were chasing you or you got into a scrap with a bigger guy. "Let's not panic, okay?" Vincent said with a gesture, finding himself patting Melody on the head like he did to Blossom. "I'm sure they just went off somewhere. Exaclibur is a recent capture, so he's probably not used to having a owner yet. And Napoleon is a bit of rebel ain't he? Maybe he's just wandering around and hunting or something."

Melody nodded, trying her best to calm herself. What the boy had said was true. Napoleon had always seemed to have his own way of thinking for the most part, battles included at times. Blossom and Hawk both seemed to pick up on Melody's concern, though. Blossom slowly walked forward, nuzzling against the trainer in an attempt to calm her down, while Hawk landed on Melody's shoulder and gave small, chirp and nod as if he was agreeing with Vincent.

"O-Okay... S-So, what do we do?" Melody asked. "Do we wait on them or look for them?"

Vincent's once confident expression became twisted before showing an almost equally lost expression as Melody's. "That's a good question," he admitted. He mused upon the question for a bit, looking around the campsite. "Let's look around for anything that gives a clue on what they are doing. Then we can try answering your question again."

Vincent motioned to his Pokemon (believing that Melody's Pokemon cared little for him, especially the Bayleef) and briefly whispered to them about his plan and the type of things he was looking for. Vincent was mostly walking around the perimeter of the campsite, looking for where Napoloen may have went, hoping for a trail. His Honedge would be harder to track after all, being that the Pokemon floats around. Brian would flutter over with random sticks and such, but Vincent would keep smiling and waving him off, applauding the effort but not the result. Hanzo, in turn, brought nothing useful because Hanzo, like Vincent, was not a masterful tracker. No, they specialized in running away from the problem.

Melody continued to look around the campsite and the surrounding area for anything she may have missed in her panic. The girl was still very on edge, completely worked over with concern for her missing Buizel. However, the girl also knew she needed to try and remain calm. She knew that Vincent was right in the fact that getting worked up was not the best method for handling this, especially with Hawk and Blossom probably being a bit worried or concerned for their missing friend as well.

For the first time in a while, Melody was absolutely silent, focusing heavily on the task at hand. In fact, the girl was only stirred from her focus when Hawk suddenly began to flap his wings wildly. Melody gasped in surprise as the Taillow took off of her shoulder, quickly flapping to a nearby branch and pointing at it with his small beak. Curiously, Melody made her way over towards the suddenly energetic bird, wondering what in the world had gotten him so worked up so quickly.

"What is it, Hawk? What did you find?" Melody asked. The bird chirped and just motioned his head down towards the low hanging branch. The trainer followed his gaze, her eyes widening at the small, yet noticable piece of black fabric that was hanging from it. Melody was not exactly an ace detective, but she could tell that the fabric looked as if it was from something... or rather someone, who hads gotten snagged while passing through. "I wonder if this has anything to do with Napoleon being missing... We should probably take it with us as a clue... Good eyes, Hawk!"

"Hey! Melody! Come here for a second," Vincent yelled out to the other person in the camp. As she drew closer, he rose from a crouching position. He dusted off a hat from some sort, looking it over from several angles. Despite the dirt cacked on to it, the black color was unmistaken and a red "R" was embroided on the front. "You recognize this hat at all? I've never seen it before." Vincent tossed it over to her and gave Melody a shot at identifying it.

Melody caught the hat and quickly glanced over at it. There was something that was very familiar about it. She had the feeling that she had actually seen this sort of hat not that long ago, in fact. As she examined the hat for another moment, she felt Blossom nudge up against her. Melody turned to the Bayleef, wondering if something was bugging her, or if perhaps she had chanced upon seeing the missing Buizel and Honedge. Instead, she noticed a rather... anxious looking expression on Blossom's face.

"What's up, Blossom...? Is something wrong?" the female trainer asked.

The Bayleef used her vines to quickly point at the hat in Melody's hands. The trainer did not seem to follow what the grass-type was actually trying to tell her, much to her own and Blossom's dismay. The Bayleef huffed a bit in frustration, before using her vines to point at the hat again and then towards Hawk. As she pointed towards the Taillow, that's when it all suddenly clicked for the girl.

"...Oh, crap... I do know this hat!" Melody suddenly exclaimed. "This is the same sort of hat that that Pokémon thief we battled was wearing back on Route 31!"

"A theif?" Vincent asked. "So you are saying our Pokemon were stolen? By the same guy who wore this hat?" He didn't enjoy jumping to the conclusion by it seemed like that is what Melody was daring to suggest. Without intending to, Vincent felt himself clenching his fist in anger. No only because one of his stuff was stolen, but because the guy left evidence. Had he never stolen something before. A clumsy job. No respect for the art.

"No... Well, maybe..." Melody mused. "Um, I think there's more than one of them... That guy who wore a hat like this. He said he was in some group called um... Team... Bucket...? No, no... Team Rocker...? Um... Geeze, what did he say they were called again?"

"Team Rocket..." Vincent grunted. "I..." He paused. "Let's get moving. They can't be too far. At least we know what to look for."

"Oh, yeah! That was them!" Melody exclaimed. "Wait, have you met them too, Vinny?"

"No," Vincent said, shaking his head and returning to his bag. He stuffed anything he took out back in violently. A grimace was painted across his face, one of intense anger but also of focus. He made his way to the edge of the camp and looked back at Melody, with Brian flying above him and Hanzo at his side. "But I plan on it now."

Aberdeen Montany
Christina Langley

chapter 5 : Route 32

Everything was quiet in the forest surrounding the small, reflection-y tent as the night continued on. Even the rain had stopped, if only temporarily, providing the Pokémon within the forest with the chance to rest without becoming drenched. Inside of the little tent, the two trainers were sleeping soundly, the newly-evolved Quilava curled up somewhere in between Christina and Aberdeen, near their feet with the Whismur nuzzled up against her side like a small, pink softball.

Despite the fact that Sindy's flames were currently turned off, she still provided a natural aura of warmth to Winter and the two trainers as she continued to snooze through the night. It wasn't completely peaceful, however, as sometime during the night, there was a weird noise outside of the tent, as if something was stalking around.

Sindy raised her head, blinking her eyes a little groggily before she realized something was going on. Slowly, she raised up on all four, careful not to wake the trainers, as she slowly made her way towards the exit of the tent, warily.

As she got up, Winter fell back onto the floor and awoke with a startled squeak. Luckily, it didn't wake up the humans. He glanced around nervously and managed to just see Sindy's feet disappear out from the tent's opening. Alarmed, the little Whismur jumped up and waggled after her.

The night was cool outside but Winter shuddered more from apprehension than from the temperature shift. A sudden noise of a twig breaking in the forest in front of the pokémon made the little pokémon tense up even more and literally jump to stand by Sindy's side.

Glancing back as she noticed Winter had followed her outside, Sindy gave off a small murmur while briefly nuzzling Winter with the side of her head comfortingly, before looking ahead of them again, into the darkness of the forest. The Quilava's eyes narrowed as she tried to spy through the trees and the undergrowth sorrounding the small clearing they were in.

The bushes in front of the two suddenly rustled and the patches along Sindy's back lit, the flames slowly coming to life as she stared ahead of her, ready to meet whatever came out at them. Winter on the other hand started shuddering even worse and glanced from the fire pokémon to the tent, thinking they should go back and wake up the trainers.

Before he could act on that thought, two pokémon walked slowly out from the bushes. One had purple fur, a wiggling tail, big ears like a cat and leering eyes. The other looked like a gray puppy with fangs visible and yellow and red eyes gleaming through the dark air. Both seemed to smile deviously at Sindy and Winter. What could they want?

The look of the Pokémon that had just emerged into the clearing definitely didn't sit well with Sindy, nor did the way they were leering at Winter. Sindy half-stepped in front of the smaller, pink 'mon, a soft, rumbling growl or hiss emitting from her throat, the fire on her back flaring up as she prepared to fight them both to keep both Winter and their respective trainers safe.

Winter was usually ready to battle whenever Aberdeen called upon him to do so. The trainer had taken care of him when his family was gone. The trainer was all Winter had now. Of course he would battle for him. But here, in this clearing on this night, with two dangerous looking pokémon approaching them and Sindy's confidence radiating off her, Winter felt oddly inadequate. He needed his trainer.

With an involuntary squeak, he turned around, back towards the tent, only to be stopped instantly. His squeak would have risen higher if he wasn't so shocked. Instead it was just cut off.

Two humans already stood outside of the tent, facing the pokémon. But they were not Aberdeen and Christina. They were taller, bigger, and gave off the same air that the pokémon in front of Sindy did. Winter merely whimpered and backed until he walked into Sindy's leg.

Despite the two advancing Pokémon in front of her, Sindy noticed the sudden stifling of Winter's voice, along with him bumping into her. She turned her head and looked with surprise at the two, black-clad men with the same, menacing smile on their face. One of them raised his hand, about to throw something at Winter.

The Quilava let out a huff. She wasn't just about to let Winter get hurt on her watch, so she spun around and quickly pushed Winter out of the way, leaving her as the target of the black and red ball that, a moment later, knocked against her head.

Winter watched in horror, as if in slow motion, how Sindy transformed into red energy with an unusual intensity and got sucked into the orb before it fell back into the hand of one of the dark humans. What. Did just. Happen. In any case, it felt so wrong and made his insides twirl.

He screamed. The Uproar was sudden and intensive, making the ground shudder and leaves flutter around them. Both the other pokémon backed away in disgust with the noise and the grunts quickly clasped their hands over their ears. One of them had the smarts to toss another black and red ball at the source of the noise quickly though. The Uproar was cut short as the Whismur dematerialized as well.

That was when Aberdeen shot up from his sleep, suddenly clearly awake. He blinked several times, wondering if he had just had a nightmare. A familiar noise had been waking him... No, it hadn't been a dream. His ears almost felt like they were ringing still.

"... Winter?" he breathed. Everything was suddenly silent again, except for Christina who had also woken up on account of the pink 'mon's terror-filled cry and was quickly blinking her eyes open while looking around the tent.

"... Deen? Where's- Where's Sindy and Winter?"

Aberdeen finally looked around. There were only the two of them there. Sindy and Winter weren't with them.

"I don't know," he murmured before crawling out from the sleeping bag, wearing only his boxers and black t-shirt still but caring little about that as he exited the tent barefoot.

The soil was still wet beneath his feet, and the night was uneasy somehow. Branches in the forest around him were rustling. Did he hear the sound of footsteps, or was he imagining?

Christina quickly exited the tent behind him, having quickly wrapped the towel she had slept under around her torso, standing up. She looked around, her eyes widening slightly as she pointed to the ground in front of the tent. "Deen, look!"

In the still-wet soil beneath their feet were many different marks. Alot of them looked rather old, or had been washed away by the rain, but several of them seemed extremely fresh. What really set off alarm bells with Christina was the large boot prints that seemed to be coupled with several paw prints from Pokémon. The redhead looked up, slightly panicked as she stepped further out into the dark.

"... Sindy? Sindy, where are you? Sindy!"

Aberdeen didn't call out for Winter, but he knew that his Whismur was gone as well. He felt anger bubble up from somewhere within him. But instead of cursing out loud or panicking, he just walked up to Christina and took her hand in his.

"Stay here," he said, uncharacteristically darkly, before he dashed off out into the bushes seemingly determined and confident that everything would be well soon.

But his hand had betrayed him; it had shivered.

Blaine - A second chance! Aim higher Derpy! Blaine's new philosophy!

"Hey, no need to be so down." Once more Blaine sought shelter underneath one of the jutting roofs that belonged to the fishermen, "I healed you all up! How about we try again?"

The Totodile snorted as he angrily crossed his arms and stared blankly ahead. "Oh come on, don't be that way." He patted Derpy on the head, "How about we go out and find a wild to battle? We can work on some techniques while we train and then we'll come back and throw that stupid fish out of the water!" He smirked, "What do you say?"

The Totodile was silent for a moment before jumping up and giving his trainer a hug. Blaine chuckled a bit, confused as to how such a strange pokemon could still hug another. "Okay, we have to find another pokemon to battle first. We'll go around, find some other pokemon that can straighten out our strategy and we can take another crack at that qwilfish."

The Totodile nodded a bit and gave a happy lick to Blaine's shirt as he jumped out of his arms and landed safely onto the ground. Blaine straightened his back as he glanced around the area, "Well, given that it's raining I doubt many pokemon will be out and about, but you never know until you try right? Let's explore then. Can't be too hard in the rain… I hope."

Derpy gurgled a bit as he pointed out with a hand and jumped about in the air. "Alright, that way we'll go then."

So off the two went. Given that it was raining EVERYWHERE they didn't find much in terms of variety. The only pokemon out on the land right now seemed to be Woopers… who of course were water types and therefore were more than happy to just sit down in the rain. They were also a bit on the… well he didn't want to sound rude, but they were a bit lacking in brain cells. They of course fought back, but they didn't seem to try and dodge Derpy's attacks. It wasn't as if the qwilfish would just stay in one place and look at Derpy with soul-less eyes. It was as the two went through some tall grass that Blaine suddenly heard a loud hissing noise. He paused dead in his tracks and glanced about, "Derpy… did you hear that?"

The hissing got a bit louder as Derpy growled right on back. The hissing stopped for a moment before suddenly a figure stood up from the grass. Well, not really stand, more like rise up as this pokemon happened to be a snake like creature. Blaine whipped out his dex as he glanced down at the description. "Ekans, poison type… eats the eggs of bird pokemon too. Alright Derpy this is the poison type we've been looking for! Go in and use a Aqua Jet!"

Derpy's body was quickly coated in water as the Totodile flew out and smacked right into his opponent, but now that he was in close proximity the ekans opened its jaws and sunk its fangs into Derpy's shoulder. The Totodile squirmed about angrily as the ekans dug in deeper and so Derpy returned the favor. He opened his jaws wide and snapped them around the ekans' neck. The snake's eyes widened and it quickly let go of Derpy as it whipped its head back and forth in a desperate effort to throw the totodile off. Derpy managed to stay glued on for a bit before his jaws were forced free from all the thrashing and he went sailing back, his back nailing into a tree trunk.

The totodile grunted from not only the pain, but from the poison coursing through his body. The ekans readied its body and leapt right at Derpy, intending to bit him once more. The totodile waited patiently before ducking down and letting the snake slam right into the tree. "Derpy, water gun!"

The totodile hopped into the air as he sprayed out a load of water at his foe. It not only brought damage, but the force of the water helped to send Derpy back a bit so he could gain some distance from the snake. The ekans didn't look so hot now, but it still reared up and began racing toward the totodile. Derpy just smirked as the snake came closer and closer. Water surrounded his body and he flew right at his foe. The ekans was caught off guard by the sudden attack and Derpy hit him right in the head as he sailed on past and skidded to a halt on the ground.

Derpy panted as he gripped his shoulder in a bit of pain. Blaine nodded, "Most of the pokemon here seem to be a bit weak. Still, at least we can fight through a poisoned status now. I have an idea for a strategy when we tackle that qwilfish, but lets heal you up."

~~~~
"Ah, I see your back… and with a cover huh?"
Blaine had managed to find a broken off piece of tree bark that he was now using to cover his head as best as he could from the rain, but it really didn't matter considering that he was thoroughly soaked now.
"Yeah, and we're here for a rematch!" He said as Derpy stomped up and gurgled in a challenging way.
"Heh, I see." The fisherman tossed his pokeball up and down before throwing it out. The qwilfish gurgled as the man nodded, "Let's see how well you fare this time then. Qwilfish start out with minimize!"
"Derpy, go with a leer!"
As the fish once more began to shrink Derpy cast a glare right at the fish. His opponent shuddered as Blaine was quick to set up another order, "Go for another leer!"
"Qwilfish, minimize again!"
As the fish shrunk again it also happened to glance at Derpy's leer. It seemed to be a constant cycle at this point, and Blaine wanted to make sure that the qwilfish's defense was lowered as far as possible. It was necessary for his strategy to work. "Another leer!"
"Qwilfish lets go ahead and poison that dile. Poison sting!"
The qwilfish took in a deep breath and shot out a purple barb that struck Derpy in the chest. Derpy gritted his teeth as he had to abandon his leer to rip the barb out. Thankfully it didn't seem to poison Derpy this time. "Derpy use scary face!"
"Heh, you think leer can help? Qwilfish use harden!"
Derpy smirked as he puffed out his chest and lowered his face to the qwilfish. He opened his mouth wide and showed off his teeth. Qwilfish was noticeably disturbed, but it still flexed its small body.
"Use bite now Derpy!"
"Minimize again!"
Thanks to the decreased speed Derpy was able to open his jaws and grabbed the qwilfish in them, shaking his jaws about and then spitting out the fish.
The qwilfish retaliated by shrinking even more, now at half size. Blaine knew that he would have to press his advantage at this point. If the qwilfish increased its defense or shrunt more it would end up being bad news. "Derpy, another bite!"
"Qwilfish use another harden!"
Thanks to Derpy's increased speed he managed to reach down and snap his jaws… unfortunately he missed the qwilfish entirely as his opponents defense rose once more.
Derpy growled in annoyance and lurched forward again, this time managed to snap his jaws around the fish. "Poison sting!" His opponent called out and with the fish in Derpy's mouth it was quiet easy to hit the water type. Derpy spat him out as he reeled over a bit, glaring right at the now smug fish.
The funny thing was that even though Derpy was now poisoned his opponent was hurting far more. The fish looked battered enough and it would probably take another attack or two to really get him out of the game. Of course… that would depend on if Derpy could ACTUALLY hit him. It seemed that no matter what attack Blaine called out the stupid qwilfish managed to dodge every single one! It didn't help that the figherman had him minimize to become as small as possible. With the downpour of rain even Blaine was having a hard time keeping an eye on the fish.
All of the running around Derpy was doing didn't help his poisoned status and finally there was a lucky hit. The qwilfish went flying as Derpy snarled angrily. A soft thud was heard as it fell on the wooden planks and ceased moving. Derpy, naturally, let out a loud war cry as the fisherman withdrew his fish and nodded, "You did good. Heh, haven't had a battle like that in some time." He grabbed the pole he had placed off to the side and tossed it to Blaine, "Have fun fishing kid. Simply lay your line in the water and tug it up once the bobble on the end bounces. If you get some bait you'll do even better!"
Blaine nodded wearily as he sneezed. "Oh… great." He rubbed at his nose, "I have to run now. Catch you around." He couldn't help but sneeze again as he made his way past with Derpy hopping alongside next to him. The two made some headway, as the rain FINALLY passed through. Still, Blaine was left as a shivering wreck. His clothing was drying up thanks to the wind that passed through, but at the same time it caused him to shiver.
With the winds blowing through Blaine managed to make it to a set of trees and pressed his back against them. "If only I had caught a fire type." He muttered to himself as he leaned against the tree trunk. Derpy sat on down next to him and just looked up at him with bright eyes. Then… Blaine went to sleep.
~~~~~

He definitely remembered that when he had started going to sleep that he hadn't heard any screams of terror or such. He had been pretty sure that he had been alone too… except for Derpy of course, so of course he awoke in a sweat he heard screams and a cry nearby followed by a very recognizable growl of a Totodile. He could hear footsteps quickly fading away as he glanced around. He must have fallen into a very deep sleep cause he could see his various pokeballs scattered along the ground. He quickly began to collect them up as he coughed a bit, already regretting staying so long out in the rain.

He paused however as he only saw four balls there. He quickly glanced around for the fifth one when he saw Derpy. His Totodile was standing there, and if Blaine had seen him in, say, a city he would have thought that he had played in red paint. As the red liquid dripped from his jaws Blaine quickly realized that it wasn't paint at all. Derpy stared silently at him as he glanced over at the bushes next to him. Blaine could see a red puddle starting to seep out from it and almost got onto his feet, but Derpy stepped forward. He held out a hand and solemnly shook his head. Blaine found himself slowly sitting back on down as a small whimper was heard from the other side.

Derpy glanced over and held up a finger to Blaine as he disappeared behind the bushes.

"O-OH no… no stay back! We weren't going to hurt the kid! Promise! No… Arceus help me! MAM-" The sentence remained unfinished as Blaine heard a sound that was a cross between a crunch, a snap, and a munch. Derpy reappeared, waving happily as he trotted on over and sat down against the tree trunk. Blaine glanced over at the growing red puddle and shifted his body along the trunk to make sure he avoided it. He pulled out his dex and glanced over the pokemon list. He knew there was a function to list his current pokemon and as he scanned it he realized his unown was missing.

Blaine stared back at the red puddle and down at his pokedex again, letting the knowledge that a pokemon had been stolen from him sink in gently. He too leaned against the tree, looked up at the night sky and spoke softly. "Good boy, Derpy."

After a few hours of searching for Napoleon, Excalibur, and any further signs of the Team Rocket members who stole the Pokémon, the two trainers had to eventually begin moving on with their journey. The air was definitely heavy as the duo began to make their way from the campsite and further along Route 32. Melody herself seemed to be far more quiet than usual. She had even gone as far as to recall Blossom into her Pokéball, feeling that it was much safer for the Bayleef inside of it than possibly wandering off or drawing more attention to the duo and their Pokémon.

"You alright, Melody?" Vincent asked, looking back. Unlike her, he allowed Hanzo to hang out of the Pokeball, only keeping Brian (who was harder to keep an eye on) in the Pokeball. For the time being, he internally accepted his loss of Exaclibur. He was sure to bump into Team Rocket at some point, especially if they were in the area. It would be in that moment that he would take care of business in his way. He only hoped that no one, like Melody, would have to see it. Despite having that Pokemon for only a few moments, he was angry. Then again, he had a lot to be angry about all the time.

The female trainer shook her head, her eyes staying downcast on the path before them. "I'm worried about Napoleon... What if they hurt him or something?" the girl asked, quickly slipping into a ramble. "What if they sell him off somewhere on some sort of Pokémon black market and he's shipped off to some far away region and I never get to see him again and his fur is shaved off to be used as some sort of rug and before being turned into a Buizel Burger?"

"You're overthinking it. They obviously will use him in Pokemon fight clubs instead. Earn money in illegal Pokemon battles underground in cities like Goldenrod. After all, I'm pretty sure Buizel is too common to earn a decent buck on the black market. And they only eat Buizel Burgers over in Sinnoh. Not much of a market for those here," Vincent replied, matter of factly.

Vincent's comment did little to actually comfort Melody... if that had even been his attempt at it. Rather, the girl stared up at him with an absolutely horrified face. "T...That's not true, right? They don't actually do that to them there!"

Vincent avoided eye contact, frowned and looked back. "I'm afraid so. He's a tough cookie. I mean this is assuming he doesn't beat the crap of the Team Rocket members in the first place. That might of happened too."

"Yeah... I guess you're right..." Melody replied quietly. She glanced down to Blossom's ball, which she carried in her hand. She had always heard about such things being possible... having a Pokémon stolen, that is. But never in her wildest dreams did Melody ever think it would happen to her. She glanced back up at Vincent, before speaking again. "Hey, Vinny? You're worried about Excalibur too, right?"

"Not as worried as you. I trust he can handle himself. He's still pretty wild after all. They'll have a hard time getting him to do anything," Vincent replied with confidence. "And like I said, worrying isn't going to change anything. So I'm not going to bother." Vincent walked away from Melody leading them towards what he could describe as docks (or maybe bridges) over the water that consumed part of Route 32. "Let's walk that way. Maybe looking over the water will relax you. Or maybe we can fish? Fishing relaxed my grandpa from what my mother told me."

"But... I don't have a fishing rod," Melody replied. "And um... Fish Pokémon are kinda... gross, you know? They feel all scaley and slimey... Yuck." Hawk, who had been perched up on Melody's shoulder this entire time let out a small squak of agreement, flapping his wings as if trying to emphasize their point. "Um... Come to think of it, do you even have a rod?"

"No. But I can easily get one," Vincent said before rolling his eyes. "Okay, so maybe it will be a bit more difficult. There are bound to some fisherman around, maybe we can borrow a rod from one of them and relax. How does that sound?"

"Sounds like it could work..." Melody replied with a nod. She looked around the dock, spotting a man fishing nearby with a bucket practically overflowing with... Magikarp. The man was dressed in what would easily be considered cliche fishing apparel, even going as far as to wear a life jacket. It stood out to the girl a bit, seeing as how the water did not look as if it went much further past thigh-deep. She pointed over at the man and smiled softly. "What about him?"

Vincent sighed. The guy looked like he knew what he was doing too well. He would probably bark orders if he tried to learn from him, but seeing how all the other fisherman had no fish in their buckets or were sleeping, beggers couldn't be choosers. "Here goes nothing," he said with a shrug.

"Hey, ol-"

"Sssh! You are scaring away the Magikarp," the fisherman said, waving off Vincent without any eye contact or as much as a shift in his seat.

Who the hell needs that much Magikarp,Vincent thought to himself. "Well, it looks like you got plenty in that bucket, to be honest."

"That I do. Now go away. There are no bites if you are loud," the fisherman said again, first calmly before slowly raising his voice.

Vincent smirked as all the Magikarp left following the brief tirade from the fisherman. "And it looks like you scared them off all by yourself too." The fisherman turned to face Vincent, his face droping with frustration. "All I wanted to know is that you were willing to show me how you fish. My friend and I thought it could be relaxing...but she hates fish. So I guess I am going to try it first. So...willing to help a kid learn the art?"

The fisherman went in his bag and tossed Vincent an old looking rod. Honestly, if it wasnt any older, the rod would crumble in Vincent's hand. "Take a seat," the fisherman gestured towards the ground beside his little stool.

Melody took a seat a bit further back. The prospect of really even watching did not sit well with the girl at all, but at the same time she did not want to be rude to the man that was teaching Vincent. She amused herself quietly by taking a moment to play with Hawk, allowly the bird to move down to her wrist. Melody began to pet the bird's head gently, smiling at how the Taillow seemed to enjoy the special attention he was receiving.

Vincent nodded in the meantime, accepting the man's offer despite the crummy rod. How am I going to catch anything with this piece of crap? Vincent took a seat on the dock and threw the line out like they did in the movies.

"Be gentle with the rod. You don't need to put all your strength into it. Just a flick will often do," the fisherman instructed.

Fearing that the old man would continue to criticize everything Vincent would do, he had to ask: "So now what?"

The fisherman smiled his first ever grin. "We wait."

"That's it?"

"Well, not exactly. We wait. Patiently. And quietly."

Vincent could only pout as he sat on the dock. Despite only waiting maybe fifteen minutes, it felt like hours before the fisherman's rod caught a bite. However, the man lost the fish before he could do anything. Before Vincent thought a good jeer, the fisherman shook him off. "It happens."

"A lot?"

"From time to time."

Vincent went back to his business, staring at his old rod in boredom. Another ten or so had passed, and again the fisherman lost his bite, though Vincent could tell that this time even he was getting frustrated. But then Vincent's rod shook violently. "Oh I got a bite!"

"Easy, easy. If you pull too quick, you'll lose it. Use your back! No, not your arms!"

"Can it, old man! I can pull a fish out of the damn water!" Vincent yelled back. Heaving with a strong yank, Vincent pulled the Pokemon out of the water. It was a hefty Magikarp if Vincent ever saw one. It flopped all over the deck, inching closer to Melody and Hawk.

Melody slowly looked away from her Taillow and down at the Magikarp that was flopping on the dock. Her eyes went wide as the fish had almost managed to flop right to her legs. Without a moment's hesitation, the girl quickly shot up on her feet and shivered at the sight of the fish Pokémon. She closed her eyes, letting out a small yelp before kicking the fish as hard as she possibly could. The Magikarp flew across the docks, landing with a splash right back in the water, before he gently floated back up to the surface. The Magikarp was not dead... thankfully, but it was clear that the fish had been stunned by the violent greeting from the surface dwellers.

"Damn it, Melody! What the hell was that?!" Vincent yelled at the girl.

Melody stared up at Vincent with wide eyes. A slightly guilty look over took her features, before she quickly shook her head and glared. "I can't help it! That... thing almost touched me! It's so gross!"

"It's just a Magikarp!" Vincent insisted, as he took off one of the Pokeballs from his belt. "Go, Brian! Fetch the Magikarp out of the water!" The Pidgey emerged midflight from its Pokeball and snatched the Magikarp right out of the water with its talons. The fish Pokemon was barely alert as Brian dropped it in between Melody and Vincent, the Pokemon flopping around on the deck uttering its name pathetically.

Brian swooped at the flopping with a swift tackle, knocking the Magikarp back a few feet away from Melody. As Brian flew back for another, Magikarp tried to meet the flying type with its own tackle yet it was easily overpowered, clearly out of its element on dry land. As the Magikarp reared back from the attack, Vincent tossed a Pokeball, snatching the Magikarp up in a blinding light.

"See Melody? It's just a Pokemon. Nothing to worry about."

Melody rolled her eyes. "Just... keep that thing away from me, okay?"

"No promises," Vincent said with a deadpan voice. "So how did I do, old man?"

"I've seen better. You obviously need to keep practicing," he said with a nod. "Keep the rod and come back when you master the art of fishing. Then we can talk more."

Vincent shrugged his shoulders. "Whatever you say. I think I did pretty well, myself." Waving goodbye, Vincent made his way south again, glancing at the water from time to time to see if any more useful water types were swimming about.

Melody bid a quick farewell to the fisherman before moving to join Vincent once more. "Well, I guess you got lucky he gave you that rod, huh? So what are you gonna name that thi- um, I mean, Magikarp?"

"Melody's Bane of Existence?"

"Too long... And awkward," Melody replied. "Maybe you could decide later? You know, keep it in a PC box until then. What do you think, Vinny? I like that idea."

"Oh, wait. I got it! Just...'Bane.' Yeah, that works," Vincent said with a smirk. "And I should let him out of the Pokeball a lot. Keep him limber and active so he can grow up strong and powerful," Vincent continued, nodding as he spoke.

"But... but fish need a lot of water! You know, to swim around!" Melody protested. "Come on, Vinny, you don't want him to get all dry and stuff. At least wait until there's lots of water around!"

"Hanzo is a water type. He can keep him all wet and stuff. I fail to see a problem with my new capture," Vincent was growing increasily frustrated, but was still amused as his ability to shoot down Melody's every plea. He knew what she was trying to do, but was now just having fun with it.

"Fine, whatever..." Melody pouted, crossing her arms with a huff. She sighed, before walking past the boy and making her way further along the route.

Sarah Walter - Route 32
Stupid Mistakes

Sarah snorted a few times and tossed restlessly when she felt an above ground root prodding into her back. She lazily opened her eyes and pushed her hair to the side of her face. Slowly she began to raise herself up and that's when she realised … she had fallen asleep on the ground. "Uggh, I feel so gross. Hardly the way a girl should be spend the night. How the hell did I even get down here? I thought I was in that tree!" and that's when she remembered. She had gotten so tired up in the tree that she climbed down and lay on the grass below, claiming it was only going to be for a few minutes but as it turns out, it was much longer than that. She pushed her hair back and hooked it behind her ear before she stretched and looked up at the sky. "A nice day. Finally!" she chuckled as she finished her stretch. Reaching down to her belt she made sure that she still had everything from the night before. She had her badges, her bag and of course one and … the second poké ball was no-where to be found. Not on her belt, not on the ground, nothing. It's as if the ball simply disappeared. It was now that Sarah started to panic. She pulled out the first ball and could see that she held Poliwag in her hand. Someone had taken Fennekin! Someone who knew the rarity and worth of Fennekin but knew that Poliwag was worthless as far as rarity goes. She released Poliwag from his ball and he plopped down onto the ground with a big smile.

Poor Sarah though was doing anything but smiling. Once Poliwag had noticed Sarah's lack of happiness, the smile from the pokémon quickly disappear and it soon turned to a look of confusion. Sarah looked at Poliwag with tears starting to well in her eyes. "Someone has taken Fennekin Poliwag. I think she was stolen" said Sarah as she looked down at Poliwag. Upon hearing the news Poliwag quickly starting looking around the area where Sarah had slept but soon stopped once Sarah informed him that she had already looked around here. Sarah slumped up against a tree and Poliwag soon waddled over and sat down beside her.

"Who would do something like this?" Sarah quizzed. "It had to have been someone experienced. They knew what they were after. What kind of people steal pokémon? I mean …" Sarah's words soon trailed off when it entered her head. "Those goons from the museum! I bet you that's who stole Fennekin Poliwag. I can almost guarantee it. Come on, let's get outta here" Sarah said as she dried her eyes and jumped up onto her feet. She emerged from the little area she had stayed the night before and got back onto the road. Clenching her first, the fire for revenge was burning even stronger inside her. Once she met those goons there would be no holding back, especially if they've stolen Fennekin.

She looked down and smiled at her Poliwag which walked alongside her. "At least they didn't take you as well Poliwag. I don't know what I'd do if I lost both of you guys" Poliwag looked up at Sarah and replied back with a smile. Sarah and Poliwag continued to walk along the route and take in the scenery all around them. It certainly was a beautiful place. Of course the fact that the sun was out made it all the more beautiful.

They continued to walk along the path until a lonely Mareep wandered out onto the road. Sarah and Poliwag froze in their tracks. "Mareep, electric. Veeery dangerous to you Poliwag. I would love to catch it. I don't know if I should risk sending you in there though?" Sarah said looked down once more at Poliwag. Poliwag let out a little cry and walked in front of Sarah. A clear indication that it was ready to fight. Sarah however wasn't so sure, sending in a water against an electric, this was a rookie mistake but it wasn't like she could switch. If she wanted to catch a Mareep she would have to do it here and now.

"O-kay. Uhh here's goes nothing. Poliwag use Water Gun!" said Sarah hesitantly. Poliwag shot a beam of water towards Mareep however the pokémon wasn't so slow. The Mareep quickly dodged out of the way and sent a Thundershock attack straight for Poliwag. The attack hit, and clearly took its toll on Poliwag. "Come on Poliwag. Let's go!" shouted Sarah as she started to grit her teeth. Her recklessness in battle was now starting to show. It was bad enough agreeing to have a water go up against an electric but to continue battling after the water had taken a big hit was just stupid.

"Alright Poliwag use Hypnosis" The small pokémon closed its eyes and small circular wave's started to appear from the swirl on its belly. The waves lazily floated over towards Mareep on the other side of the field and much to Sarah's surprise they actually hit! Mareep staggered around for a few seconds before it fell to the ground fast asleep.

"Here goes nothing!" shouted Sarah as she hurled a poke ball over towards Mareep. The ball struck Mareep on the head and the sheep like pokémon was sucked inside. Once the pokémon had vanished the ball fell to the ground and rocked violently. Sarah waiting anxiously for the result and it wasn't long until the ball had made a decision. The Mareep had broken free! The pokémon was still sleeping but it wasn't much use throwing another ball. It was time to weaken the Mareep and hope for an easier capture. The problem was … if Mareep gets another Thundershock off, Poliwag is finished.
