I think that Red and Ruby are the best of the manga trainers that I've seen so far (havent managed to get a hold of the Black & White yet) with Diamond and Blue as possible seconds, whats your opinion?

wow, I'm shocked, nothing from anyone? anyone feel differently about the top manga trainers?

Hey Paskalso, just wanted to let you know that while Pokemon General is the home of Pokemon manga related discussion, those threads tend to be a bit slower than others, so it may take a little bit of time for people to respond. And just for future reference- bumping threads is actually against the rules, so please refrain from doing it in the future (don't worry about it this time, though!).

Unfortunately, I haven't read any of the manga myself, so I'm not even going to try guessing who the best trainers are. Based on what little I know, Red does seem like a good option, though.

my favourite was definitely ruby, in fact it was my favourite story arc in the pokemon adventures manga. So i'll go with him. Also, while red might be stronger i'll go with favouritism and pick gold as my second [coz he was so damn cool]

To clarify - you are talking about the Pokémon Adventures manga I assume? There's a lot of manga titles so it's not a good idea to just say "the pokémon manga" as it might lead to confusion ^^ Even though Pokémon Adventures (or pokéspe as many call it) is the most well known one, perhaps.

I actually thought Red and Ruby as soon as I saw the title of this thread, haha. So I agree with you there. I'd say Green (the guy) is pretty awesome as well; he did end up a gym leader after all and I always loved the teams he kept. Great diversity. But as far as being strong and winning battles (and being a trainer with a heart!) goes, Ruby seems to be the cleverest and Red the strongest of them all. I haven't read much of BW either so I don't know if Black would qualify, but as a runner-up I'd put Platina probably. Maybe I'd actually say that Platina is stronger than Ruby actually... I always thought Ruby got a little too much cred; his focus was on contests yet he ended up being portrayed as the strong, cool protagonist of Hoenn instead of Saph who had been battling her way through all the gyms. Never quite liked that :/

This is just counting the dex holders though.

I apologize for what i said earlier, and yes i do mean the adventure manga, something i should've elaborated more on (lol still pretty new so I'm still getting used it). And my argument to Platina being stronger than Ruby is that Ruby only started focusing on contests because he wanted to be a more sympathetic trainer, like his chilhood friend was (saph), but when he actually battled no one could stand in his way, his loss to Emerald was plot driven and was to make Emerald realize his bond with his pokemon, and towards the end of that story arc, he even taught Saph and made her a stronger trainer, showing that he can teach battling as well.

Though, like you said, We're only talking bout the dex holders, and a few non-dex holders that would be an interesting match for him i would say are Lance, and possibly Cynthia, but she was hardly given anything, especially with her team. Another possible choice would be his father, who taught him a lot of his battling techniques.
