It's probably mechanically limited just to all event-only Rockruff. So far, if my memory serves me correctly, no in-game event has been dependent on a very specific event Pokemon through checking OT, ID, etc. but rather focuses on whether the Pokemon is flagged as having been received from an event at all - that could change, of course, but I don't think that's too likely. The only one I'm not sure about is the small in-game stuff in ORAS with Steven's Shiny Beldum.

Of course, this could be the only event Rockruff they give out anyway, so this point might be entirely moot.

And on top of that, it's shiny-locked! Though I still expect a shiny sprite to exist in the coding somewhere, since there has been shiny-locked legendaries like Victini and Zygarde that still have a shiny sprite, likely to avoid issues with coding.

Sadly, though, the track record with a few of those legendaries leads one to believe they're not going to make this available as a shiny any time soon. It's honestly a bit depressing, and I'm not even a particular shiny collector.

Hence why I'm going to use the beautiful shiny Rockruff that I'm still chaining as a Midday form!

The U.S. also had Genesect distributed on B2W2's release date. So for us Americans it's been one long and unbroken pattern thus far ever since the Liberty Pass.
 
Even if the special rockruff can breed, chances are the rockruffs that hatch can only evolve midday or midnight form. Not the Dusk form.
 
I'm with Alexander. While this Rockruff will probably be able to breed like other members of its species, the offspring will still likely only be treated like a normal Rockruff and evolve only into a Midday or Midnight Form Lycanroc.

I mean, that's probably a guarantee - unless they can somehow control passing event flags down through breeding, which is possible but not a mechanic we've seen so far.

Ash-Greninja couldn't breed, from what I recall. So there's definitely a possibility to not rule out this event as being unable to breed.
