1. Because Johto was the hot new thing.
2. Because it was an adventure.
3. Because I was only 10 myself when G/S came out.
4. Because after learning everything there was about the original 150 it was exciting to have new Pokemon.
5. Because I spent 100s of hours on my GB.
6. Because Red Gyarados - my first shiny.
7. Because you had a reason for catching Ditto.
8. Because it was fun to grind for E4.
9. Because great legendaries.
10. Because breeding was new.

5. It came out when Pokemon was popular at school!
6. Shiny Pokemon added something new and different to the games
7. Baby Pokemon are adorable <3
8. Getting to revisit Kanto and take on some Kanto Gym Leaders
9. Day/Night differences
10. The Radio! Professor Oak's show was the best

Oh my goodness, where to start...

• Gold is the first Pokemon game I ever played, even if it was on an emulator.
• HeartGold was the first Pokemon game I officially owned on a cartridge.
• Cyndaquil all the way, baby. Next to Charmander, he's one of the best Fire starters.
• Level grinding was not boring (save for before the 6th gym...)
• The remakes gave us some of the best mythical events in the history of Pokemon (Arceus event anyone?)
• Beating Red is probably going to be the greatest achievement you will ever make in your childhood life (considering that post-game grinding is one heck of a chore...)
• The shiny Gyrados gave us our very first shiny Pokemon, and remains a staple to this day.
• Two ROM Hacks based on Crystal, PolishedCrystal and Prism, are two of my favorite ROM hacks of all time.
• A sub-legendary that is NOT a generic flying dragon?! Sign me up!
• Ho-oh's Sacred Ash is the perfect reward for any legendary-catching trainer. Why do we not see this more in other games?
