  • I arrived at the Elite 4 now. Beat my rival with ease and bought items. Beat Aaron, but had a lot of trouble with Drapion. Berta was different, her Sudowoodo just raped my team. Girafarig and Staraptor died against that thing, Clefable was able to finish it off. Hippowdon and Golem were not much trouble for Clefable as well, but it wasn't really able to do much against Whiscash... If i can't even beat Bertha's Sudowoodo, how hard will stuff like Bronzong be then? I definetely need more training, maybe i should train my Bibarels, since both have the Simple ability, i could make one with Curse and the other one with Charge Beam, i'm sure they would help me a lot.

    Hoenn has been completed!

I trained my team all up to lvl. 50 before challenging the E4 again. First up was Sidney, master of the Dark-type. He sent out Mightyena, who put up a fight against Swampert but succumbed to a well-aimed Brick Break. Sidney switched in Cacturne, so I recalled Swampert and sent out Kingdra. Two Ice Beams, and Cacturne was down, without putting up much of a fight. I switched in Pelliper against Shiftry, who frustrated with his constant Double-Teaming, but eventually I got him down. Swampert came in again to take down Absol and Crawdaunt with more Brick Breaks, and I was through to the next room.

I swept through Phoebe. Sharpedo set up with Focus Energy, then Crunch for all but Sableye, who took some Waterfalls to the face. Glacia, on the other hand, was much more frustrating. This was where I developed the strategy that saved my bacon so many times. I lead with Kingdra, who uses Toxic, then I switch in Wailord and wall until the opponent faints. I have to say, it was quite pleasing to sit there, watching those stupid walruses slowly die. Milotic took care of the Glalie with a few Rain-Dance-enhanced Surfs.

Drake was quite easy. Milotic's Blizzard and Kingdra's Ice Beam took care of the lot of them, and I didn't lose a single Pokemon. But next up…. The ultimate battle. Water .vs. Water. Champion .vs. Challenger. Aqua .vs. Wallace.

Wallace lead with a Wailord, I chose Kingdra. I already had my strategy worked out – Toxic, then switch in my Wailord. Not too difficult. Then out came Wiscash. Two Surfs from Milotic, job done. Wallace sent out the real annoyer - Ludicolo. I switched in Pelipper and used Fly, only to see it use Double Team. I switched in Kingdra and used Toxic, luckily it hit, then switched back to Pelipper and used Shock Wave. Wallace used Full Restore and I had to go through the whole process again, but eventually he went down. Tentacruel was a non-challenge, just one Earthquake from Swampert took it down. I switched in Pelipper against Gyrados and used Shock Wave, but despite the type advantage, Gyrados was looking to take me down. I recalled Pelipper and sent out Kingdra, and sent an Ice Beam flying its way.

So, last Pokemon. Going quite well so far. I Toxic Milotic, who does the same to me. I heal Pelipper, then heal Kingdra, then switch in Wailord. It's going well, until the damn thing uses Recover. And Recover again. Then Full Restore. Then Recover. Then Full Restore. Wailord in doing menial damage, to I try for a different tactic and switch in Pelipper. Two Ice Beams and I'm down. Swampert gets the same treatment. As does Kingdra, but not before getting another Toxic in. I switch in Sharpedo, used Focus Energy and Slash. That's when the AI went nuts, and just spammed Recover. I was getting crithax and Toxic was sapping away... eventually Milotic fainted. I became the new Water Champion of Hoenn!

Then, for some reason, I lost my save file completely. Must've been a dodgy ROM.

    Final Team (all lvl. 50-51):

    File:Spr_3r_260.png

    Swampert/Kips
    - Brick Break
    - Earthquake
    - Protect
    - Muddy Water

Very useful, not only for immunity to electric, but had some good all-round attacks. Ties with Kingdra for MVP.

    File:Spr_3r_279.png

    Pelipper/Gunn
    - Surf
    - Shock Wave
    - Fly
    - Supersonic

Gunn was an excellent Pokemon early on, with good coverage, but lost out to others later on, who simply had better stats than this guy.

    File:Spr_3r_230.png

    Kingdra/Draqueen
    - Dive
    - Twister
    - Ice Beam
    - Toxic

This thing was a beast, especially in the E4. While sporting some good attacks, the best thing about this was its high speed, which allowed me to poison anything before they could land a hit on me. Its great typing gave me some useful resistances. Ties with Swampert for MVP.

    File:Spr_3r_321.png

    Wailord/Blimp
    - Rest
    - Sleep Talk
    - Water Spout
    - Façade

God, if I was playing against this guy, I would hate it with a fiery passion. After Draqueen had poisoned the opponent, Wailord would just sit there while I healed all my other Pokemon and occasionally used Rest/Sleep Talk to slowly sap the opponents health. However, it was a little useless when I didn't use this tactic.

    File:Spr_3r_350.png

    Milotic/Belle
    - Surf
    - Return
    - Rain Dance
    - Blizzard

I thought it would have a more varied movepool, like Gyrados, but apparently not. Blizzard was useful against the Dragons, and Rain Dance gave me a boost, and it was actually quite good at walling as well. So it was useful, just not as useful as I'd have liked.

    File:Spr_3r_319.png

    Sharpedo/Bruce
    - Crunch
    - Slash
    - Waterfall
    - Focus Energy

A nice little moveset, Crunch was definitely useful against the Ghosts, and Focus Energy+Slash gave me decent Crithax. Annoying that Dark and Water were exclusively special moves in this generation, as he couldn't take full advantage of his high attack.

    halloffamewaterhoenn.jpg

So, I'm onto Sinnoh! I've got my team planned out:

    Definite:

    Empoleon
    Floatzel
    Gastrodon
    Octillery

    Probable:

    Lumineon
    Tentacruel

I'm also considering Gyrados and Vaporeon, who I've used before, but are just better than the last two. Still, I think I'll stick with Tenta and Lumi. It is a challenge, after all.

  • Well, i finished Sinnoh yesterday evening.
On the second attempt, i was a bit more lucky and had less trouble with Drapion and Sudowoodo. Flint was easy anyway, the end of the battle was pretty epic: Staraptor used Brave Bird on Drifblim, critical hit, OHKO, after recoil damage, Staraptor has 1 HP left. I already think "yeah, now i only have to use a hyper potion, that saves me one revive"... and then it got killed by the Aftermath ability, dammit... Lucian... 4 of his Pokemon were extremely easy, but that stupid Alakazam, it outspeeded even Staraptor and OHKOd everything with Focus Blast (never missed, when i use that move, it always misses) and Psychic. So i had to wait till Alakazam ran out of PP, used Energy Ball and Staraptor coult kill it.
The Cynthia battle was pretty similar to the one in the Electric challenge. Only Lucario and Garchomp gave some trouble, but Intimidate cut Garchomp's attack stat so much that Clefable was able to Ice Beam it. And Lucario, again i had to wait for that thing to use Dragon Pulse or Earthquake, since these moves were pretty weak.
So i finished that again, i'm doing things way too fast...

    Final Team:

    Suicide / Staraptor m Lv. 58
    Spr_4d_398_m.png

    @ Fist Plate
    Naughty Nature / Intimidate
    - U-Turn
    - Brave Bird
    - Close Combat
    - Aerial Ace
MVP, even though it died pretty often towards the end, because Brave Bird was pretty much a Flying-type Explosion. Intimitate was really helpful to cripple strong physical sweepers.

    MagicGuard / Clefable f Lv. 58
    Spr_4d_036.png

    @ Icicle Plate
    Bold Nature / Magic Guard
    - Shadow Ball
    - Thunderbolt
    - Flamethrower
    - Ice Beam
Only member of my team that was able to take some hits, this made it extremely valuable. But it was pretty helpless against Alakazam, that thing was just too strong, stuff like Water/Ground it couldn't attack super-effective, it did hardly any damage.

    ChainChomp / Girafarig f Lv. 57
    Spr_4d_203_m.png

    @ Soft Sand
    Quirky Nature / Inner Focus
    - Earthquake
    - Grass Knot
    - Psychic
    - Thunderbolt
LVP, very nice through most parts of the game, but against the Elite 4 it completely failed, since unlike Staraptor it didnt have enough Speed and Offense to seriously hurt stuff, and unlike Clefable, it couldn't take many hits.

    HM Slaves:
NinjaThrwr / Bibarel Lv. 23 (Surf, Strength, Cut, Rock Smash)
Plaupa / Chatot Lv. 12 (Peck, Growl, Mirror Move, Fly)
KBeavorz / Bibarel Lv. 16 (Rock Climb, Defense Curl, Rollout, Waterfall)
If i would have trained the Slaves too, i could've beaten the Elite 4 with my double Bibarel, one as a Curser, the other one as a Charge Beamer... But i was too lazy...

Fun Fact: I beat Pearl without having seen Tentacool, i would really like to post a screenshot of the Pokedex, but i was playing on DS...

I thaught that you can't have HM slaves for the Gym battles/Elite Four for example: like having them just to revive/restore your main Pokes...

Hey, why am i not in the list?
I should be in Kanto, Flying
Just wait. I finished my flying type and I was still on the Johto list, lol. Just be patient.

  • Well, i was doing Normal and all my HM Slaves were Normal types, so i might have used them as well, but i was just too lazy to train 6 Pokemon
In fact i did use my first Bibarel at the beginning of the game, before i caught a Cleffa.

My journey in Sinnoh has begun!

So, I chose Piplup as my starter (obviously), then did all the beginning crap, catching a Bidoof on my way. I named Piplup "Pingu" and Bidoof "Tweedledee". Tweedledee took care of my rival pretty easily, and when I got to Oreburgh I beat the gym trainers and everyone in the mine, then grinded both my Pokes to lvl. 15, evolving Bidoof.

Being a Rock-type leader, Roark was not hard. Geodude and Onix were both OHKOed by Pingu's Bubble, then I switched in Bidoof and used Defense Curl+Rollout, and rolled my way to victory. Pingu evolved after the match, then I made my way to Floaroma. Caught myself a Shellos ("Slughorn") and Buizel ("Wesley"), taught Wesley Rock Tomb, saved and wrote this update.

    Team so far:

    Pingu/Prinlup - lvl. 17
    - Metal Claw
    - Bubble
    - Peck
    - Growl

    Tweedledee/Bibarel - lvl. 17
    - Rollout
    - Water Gun
    - Defense Curl
    - Rock Smash

    Slughorn/Shellos - lvl. 12
    - Mud Sport
    - Harden
    - Water Pulse
    - Mud Bomb

    Wesley/Buizel - lvl. 10
    - Quick Attack
    - Rock Tomb
    - Water Gun
    - Pursuit

EDIT: Has anyone ever noticed how completely ugly Shellos' backsprite is? Its head looks like it's covered in tiny deformed penises. I want this thing to hurry up and evolve to I don't have to burn my eyes out.

  • I don't really feel like desribing it all, since I beat sooooooo much. Basically, I'm at Indigo Plateau, and all that that implies.
    -Cleared Silph Co.
-Defeated Sabrina, Blaine, Koga, and Giovanni
    -Defeated Ash
    -Went through Victory Road
-'Trained' everyone to Lvl. 55, fufufufufu!
-Stocked up on Full Restores, Revives, and Hyper Potions

    Here is my team:

    Tanker:

    Strength
    Withdraw
    Dig
    Surf
My Physical tank, Withdraw can be surprisingly useful at times. Since Dig and Earthquake are the same power, I don't think I'll be replacing it.

    Skulkraken:

    Thunderbolt
    Hydro Pump
    Hyper Beam
    Blizzard
I call these types of Pokemon bombardiers, they hit stuff really hard, and that's all they do. I'll have to use her sparingly, since all of the moves except Thunderbolt have only 5 PP.

    Quick Attack
    Toxic
    Surf
    Ice Beam
In a team full of tanks, he stands out as the only true wall. Toxic can prove absolutely invaluable, even determining the game at times. His offensive abilities can't be understated either.

    Psychic
    Surf
    Hypnosis
    Body Slam
Yeah I know it's a carbon copy of Ikwalyx's set, but who cares? I'm willing to steal a good idea or two. Sleep and Paralasis will be useful, and Psychic can help to outstall, since it has a chance of lowering special.

    Lapras

    Surf
    Ice Beam
    Confuse Ray
    Body Slam
Not the greatest offensive Pokemon, but para-fusion is absolutley deadly, she's more of an annoyer than anything. Still, STABed Ice Beam will help against Venasaur.

I'm going to try to get past the Elite Four with no healing items, since I've got a much higher levled team than normal. I will heal myself to fight Ash however; I've never considered the Champion part of the Elite Four.

After that I'm going to have some fun with Mewtwo, and fight Proffessor Oak. I know it's hacking, but it's being done to get some extra enjoyment out of the game, and not to make it easier. Besides, if the creator of the thread was watching, then I'd be on the list of challengers >_>

  • *sigh* I forgot that the Elite Four are pushovers in these games, I should have played FR/LG. Even Prof. Oak, with his absurdly high levels and stats(STABed Ice Beam did about 1/4th damage to an Exegutor) just didn't have the movesets to match. Whoever it was while they were making Pokemon Yellow said "hey, mabye we should let the bosses use more TM moves" I would like to pat him(I read the credits, there were no females) on the back.

UPDATE: I've started on Crystal, and I must say that the graphics are heavenly compared to the eyebleed that was Blue. Also, I chose Totdile as my starter(duh).

  • Okay, the first post is updated. =D

Um, is there a reason I'm still RBY? I clearly stated that not only RBY was complete, so was GSC.
I guess I must have missed your post for some reason. It's fixed now, however. ^^

How do you spell "Chatot" by the way, i always spell it like the french "château", i'm pretty sure that's wrong
I pronounce it pretty much like 'parrot,' just with a 'ch' and a 't' instead of the 'p' and 'rr,' respectively. xD

Um, why isn't my name on the magic list of monotypers?

XD, I am watching this thread, though I admit I don't check it everyday. And besides, you're doing that hacking after you completed the game for the purpose of this challenge, so by all means, go ahead. =P

You could use the GBA insert in theory, but you're only able to do so after you beat the Elite Four. And seeing as the defeat of the Elites also means the end of your challenge, there is no way to utilize it in the first place. :/
