Total noob

I always wanted to be part of TCG since I was little but never did until now so I have no ideas where to start and what to do after I get cards. Any tips?

Have you considered joining a league? That is also a good way to learn the basics of the cardgame ^^
Or, if you want to learn the rules it but not go to a public place, the online game also learns the rules http://www.pokemon.com/us/pokemon-tcg/play-online/
I myself love to play but mainly collect, I have a collection of over 5000 cards now and still growing ^^ I am doing a video soon about my collection.
