Welcome to the 719 802 Challenge
    marshadow.gif

Original challenge and rules made by Matzeho1996 back in 2014

    Rules:
    1. Challengers have to use teams made by Fully Evolved Pokemon in chronological order... The goal of this challenge is to use every Pokemon from Venusaur to Marshadow
If you aren't sure what Pokemon are next, use this for help...
    2. Your team must consist minimal of 3 Pokemon
    3. You are allowed to skip 1 Pokemon
    4. If you skip 1 Pokemon the next challenger HAS to use that Pokemon
    5. You can decide the game you want to play, but keep in mind that if all of the Kanto Pokemon have been used that you can't play R/B/Y anymore and so on...
    6. Not Fully Evolved Pokemon like Golbat and Scyther in R/B/Y count as Fully evolved in their generation (That means, both Golbat and Crobat will be use during challenge). Alolan Pokemon can be used instead of their normal conterparts
    7. Pokemon with no evolutions like Farfetch'd and Lapras count as Fully Evolved
    8. Shinys and HMs slaves are allowed. If you get a Shiny you can swap that Shiny Pokemon with a Pokemon from your team.
    9. You might need to hack your rom or trade with friends to get your pokemon, so trading and hacking is allowed.
    10. Megas and Z-Moves are allowed
    11. Legendaries do count! Event only legendaries are optional
    12. Challenge ends when you reach Hall of Fame for the 1st time

Hopefully we can use all 802 Pokemon!

Quick update on my Leaf Green run!

    - Did the start of game stuff, chose Squirtle as the starter.
    - Caught Rattata on Route 1 and grinded up to lv. 9
    - Beat rival, Viridian Forest, etc.
    - Reached Pewter City and Rattata was at Lv. 14; managed to beat Brock with a tail whip and then spam hyper fang
    - Ventured through part of Route 3 dodging trainers whenever I could
    - Caught Zubat, Jigglypuff, Clefairy, and Paras, started grinding and fighting trainers
    - Went through Mt. Moon and Route 3/4 and hit Cerulean City.
    - Beat Rival with help of Raticate and Zubat primarily, then cleared Nugget Bridge
    - Beat Misty with a combo of Paras, Zubat, and Raticate

    Current team:
    Zubat/16: Leech Life/Bite/Supersonic/Astonish
    Clefairy/16:Pound/Secret Power/Sing/Encore
    Jigglypuff/17: Pound/Doubleslap/Sing/Disable
    Paras/19: Bullet Seed/Scratch/Leech Life/Stun Spore
    Raticate/21: Hyper Fang/Quick Attack/Tail Whip/Scary Face

    Go team!

Update: I got two more badges without any major issues. There was some grinding with Vulpix but that's about it.

Raticate/27: hyper Fang, quick attack, dig, tail whip
Parasect/27: Spore, leech life, bullet seed, scratch
Jigglypuff/27: water pulse, rollout, defense curl, pound
Clefable/28: brick break, psychic, secret power, Thunderbolt
Golbat/29: wing attack, bite, leech life, confuse Ray
Ninetales/30: flamethrower, confuse Ray, quick attack, will-o'-wisp

Update on my Leaf Green 802 Challenge - I'm nearing the end!

    - Cleared out all of the routes leading to Fuchsia City for some experience
    - Defeated the Rockets in Silph Co and then Sabrina, the Fighting Dojo, and Koga
    - And now, I get to deal with not having a team member who can use Surf! Left Ninetales in the box for the surf over to Cinnabar, with my starter Squirtle as a replacement
    - Had a bit of trouble with Blaine and Fire Blast, had it down to Golbat and Parasect at the end. I've almost always had a water or rock type around to deal with him.
    - Went and cleared the islands 1-3 for fun
    - Ventured to Viridian and am getting ready to take on Giovanni!

    Team:
    Parasect/45: Bullet Seed/Slash/Spore/Leech Life
    Raticate/45: Strength/Quick Attack/Dig/Super Fang
    Golbat/45: Air Cutter/Bite/Confuse Ray/Steel Wing
    Ninetales/45: Flamethrower/Will-O-Wisp/Confuse Ray/Quick Attack
    Clefable/47: Calm Mind/Psychic/Ice Beam/Thunderbolt
    Wigglytuff/46: Water Pulse/Body Slam/Rollout/Brick Break

EDIT: I've reached the end of the challenge! Giovanni didn't pose too much of an issue, but the Elite Four were... pretty painful at best. Lack of a water type seriously made things difficult. Also, my set of Pokemon wasn't the strongest and they definitely didn't have level advantage. Quick reflection on each pokemon below:

Parasect: Spore/Giga Drain/Leech Life/Slash - He's just a bit too slow, though his ability to use Spore is nice. Can't really get a good bug move in this generation.
Wigglytuff: Brick Break/Rollout/Water Pulse/Body Slam - Would typically perform a function (special attacker) that Clefable performed this time around, but yeah... This thing isn't a great attacker, unfortunately.
Clefable: Calm Mind/Thunderbolt/Ice Beam/Psychic - Clefable performed pretty well and had pretty wide type coverage. A bit fragile.
Golbat: Poison Fang/Air Cutter/Confuse Ray/Steel Wing - I enjoyed using Golbat, actually - it has speed and some decent hitting moves, and can cause status problems. Might turn to using a Crobat more often.
Ninetales: Flamethrower/Confuse Ray/Will-o-Wisp/Quick Attack - Ninetales really doesn't have a great moveset; it also had very low special attack during this run, making it even a bit more limited.
Raticate: Strength/Shadow Ball/Quick Attack/Dig - Raticate is, well, fast and has decent attack for in-game. It was also a bit fragile but usually was able to get Quick Attack in for the win after taking a hit.

Great challenge; hope we can get to 802!

  • And then we stopped playing a ridiculous amount for a bit to do some other stuff

    Trainer Eto
    Spoiler:

    Team:

    Falaffel
Victreebel, F, lv55, Chlorophyll, Miracle seed
Razor leaf, growth, acid, sleep powder
    - remarkably accurate with the sleep powder

    Hot Pocket
Golem, M, lv55, Rock head, Leftovers
Rock blast, defense curl, earthquake, rollout
    - tank

    Soda Pop
Alakazam, M, lv56, Inner focus, Leftovers
    Psybeam, recover, reflect, psychic
    - quite good at confusing things, but maybe we should replace recover, since we never really use it
    - maybe we should teach him shadow ball or something
    - the leftovers might make recover even more useless than it already was

    Cereal
Arcanine, F, lv55, Flash fire, Blackglasses
Flamethrower, odor sleuth, bite, flame wheel
    - we still intend to get around to replacing odor sleuth with sunny day

    Toast
Poliwrath, M, lv55, Water absorb, quick claw
Surf, hypnosis, brick break, body slam
    - we basically never use this hypnosis, possibly we need to put a different move there
    - considering replacing hypnosis with ice beam

    Tiramisu
Tentacruel, F, lv55, Clear body, Charcoal
    Acid, HP Fire, bubblebeam, barrier
    - the HP Fire has been very useful.

  • Someone explain why they thought it was a good idea to a) have a distinct sparsity of good held items, b) have basically the only good poison attack's TM available AFTER the league. Toxic's nice, but it's not an attack attack.

    Trainer Eto
    Spoiler:

    League Team:

    Falaffel
Victreebel, F, lv70, Chlorophyll, Miracle seed
Razor leaf, attract, acid, sleep powder
    - we replaced growth with attract to fight our rival and found out after that growth is a pre-evo only move... (she has swords dance now instead, which is fine, I guess, because a) she has higher attack anyway, and b) poison attacks are all physical this gen)

    Hot Pocket
Golem, M, lv70, Rock head, Leftovers
    Rock blast, double-edge, earthquake, rollout
    - Double-edge is primarily to make use of his ability, so that it's not completely wasted.

    Soda Pop
Alakazam, M, lv70, Inner focus, Leftovers
    Psybeam, shadow ball, reflect, psychic
    - he is surprisingly good at taking physical hits given that he's an alakazam

    Cereal
Arcanine, F, lv70, Flash fire, Blackglasses
Flamethrower, sunny day, bite, flame wheel

    Toast
Poliwrath, M, lv70, Water absorb, quick claw
Surf, ice beam, brick break, body slam
    - he wasn't made to use non-stab special moves, but it's fine

    Tiramisu
Tentacruel, F, lv70, Clear body, Charcoal
    Acid, HP Fire, bubblebeam, barrier
    - the HP Fire remains very useful.

This looks like an awesome challenge! The fact that it is a forum-wide challenge is such a creative idea. Just one suggestion: It would be useful to have the next pokemon (or at least its pokedex entry number) to be picked listed in the OP. Also, perhaps move the skipped pokemon outside of a spoiler. As we get further down the list of pokemon, both of these changes will save people more and more time that would otherwise be spend sifting through challengers/champions to figure out how far we've progressed.
