5th Gen The Berry Conspiracy

You might have noticed that in Unova you can't plant berries... and you only could in the Dream World.

You can get berries from people... but you can't grow them. WHY? What's wrong with Unova's soil? Why do you think you can't grow berries in the actual region?? Maybe people grew them inappropriately...? What do you think?

...if you don't have any crazy theories then what did you think about not growing berries in the region? Did you use the function in the Dream World when it existed?

I've always assumed its because Unova is based off of New York City. Old industry has poisoned the ground - stuff like hardier varieties of grass will still grow (As anyone in any city who's ever seen an abandoned lot will testify) but you're not growing Pineapples any time soon even if your climate allows it.

EDIT: just remembered you can't grow berries in Kanto / Johto in HeartGold / SoulSilver outside of the berry planter in your bag. Whilst it is no doubt primarily due to them not wanting to have to put more plots in alongside Apricorns, perhaps it suggests that the consumable berries only grow in less-temperate climates? If you look at the areas the regions are based on, Hoenn is tropical, Sinnoh is much further north, whilst Kanto / Johto and Unova only have snow in mountainous areas (ignoring the desert in Unova in this theory obviously)

That IS possible but what if something crazier occurred....

...what if Emolga collected all the berries? This would be why they made a game about it on Pokemon.com... and this would be why they're only in the Dream World. Wild Emolga can't be found... making the berries forever safe.

But then you wonder, what did Emolga do with all the berries??? WHO WOULD EMOLGA BE GIVING THE BERRIES TO HMMMM.

THAT is the real conspiracy here.

So not only is it one of the most annoying gym pokémon, but its secretly evil and steals all the fruits of the land?

Damn I think you've got it
